As part of crawling through the list of top slice joints in Manhattan according to Slice Harvester (http://www.sliceharvester.com/), I had to hit Gino's. Out of the hundreds of pizzerias this psycho visited, this is one of only 28 that he called a great slice. What's also great is that Gino's is an old school place that looks less like a pizzeria and more like a restaurant, especially from the outside, even though you can sit down and just grab a slice. The place was almost full when I went in on a cold winter night, which was also a good sign. Most of the guys behind the counter were Italian, and after a short wait they called me up to grab my slice.
As an average street slice, Gino's is pretty stellar. Lots of gooey cheese with a little grease, the crust had the right textures, and they didn't skimp on the suace. I wish they had topped with a bit more restraint, that the dough had fermented a little more, and that they left in the oven for 30 more seconds. This isn't a destination slice by any means, but it is a great everyday slice that I would be happy to have in my neighborhood. Well above average and well worth it.
