LA’s Latest Hot-Ticket Food Item Is a Plush Loaf of Japanese Bread Baked in a Ghost Kitchen - Eater LA

"When high-end Japanese shokupan (milk bread) bakery Ginza Nishikawa opened its first U.S. location in a Los Angeles ghost kitchen this past July, the $18 loaves sold out almost immediately, every day, through an online ordering system. The milk bread craze may have something to do with Ginza Nishikawa’s popularity in Japan. Made with alkaline-ionized water, Canadian wheat flour milled in Japan, cream, butter, and honey, the recipe yields a golden-crusted loaf that’s silky and cloud-like in texture with just a hint of sweetness." - Jean Trinh

Google
This review is only on the bread as it was a X’mas gift. At first I didn’t understand how on earth a loaf of bread can cost $18 and being packaged as a gift? Well, I followed the instruction on best way to enjoy it. I finished 1/2 loaf in December and froze the other 1/2. Now it’s January, I took out the other 1/2 and let it defrost on its own over the counter, then sliced a thick slice, gently toasted and enjoyed it daily. Now, I’m eating the last piece. 😢 This is by far the BEST bread I have ever had!!! It’s unbelievable how well it freezes and it tastes as good as fresh! It is worth every dollar of it. I would get more except there is only one location and it very far. 🥲 I will put it on my wishlist to Santa.🧑‍🎄

The bread itself is pretty good. The best version of white bread you can get. If that’s your thing, go for it. Would I pay $20 again to eat it? Depends. I think it makes a good gift or party pleaser. But I wouldn’t pay just for myself. Keep in mind there’s only metered street parking in the area, helps if someone can stay in the car and you just go out to pick up. The store is part of a shared kitchen called Colony.

Google
It is more than just a milked bread. Well, even though it is hard to get, and it is very expensive, but, for bread lover, Ginza Nishikawa's milk bread is a must try, at least once in a while. In Japan, it is called shokupan and it is made with special ingredients. The best way to enjoy the bread is - eat fresh without topping for the first day, adding toppings on the second and toast it after. It should be good for a few days.

Google
I finally bought it. There is a pick-up point in the Chinese area. I can't stop eating it. It's so delicious. I bought 3 pieces in one go and ate them slowly.

Google
Really good fragrant, soft, fluffy Japanese milk bread. It operates out of a ghost kitchen where you can pickup in person or from your car. Expensive, but worth it once in a while as a treat.

I'm 73 years old born and raised in California and this is what I love about California so many surprises. So many wonderful different types of food and people. My father used to say Pamela there's only one race and it's called human and everybody in Los Angeles brings flavor to our state and our city called Los Angeles. But anywhere in Southern California you'll find great surprises all you have to do is look this bread is beyond amazing it would be a wonderful Christmas gift or Easter gift yes it's a little expensive at $18 a loaf plus tax but it's a gift somebody won't forget very soon God bless you all sincerely Pamela

Yelp
Superb Shokupan " Japanese Loaf bread" Can't compare this with any other bread with delicate and soft texture! Pricey yet deserves 5 Star rating and wish they open in south OC ?

Yelp
This is NOT a bakery you can just pop by to order. I got here and found a ghost kitchen. Tried to contact someone to order and was unsuccessful. Online system wasn't working either. Wasted time waiting here. I'll just go to cream pan

Yelp
I stopped by Ginza Nishikawa to try their shokupan. At first, I was a bit thrown off and I didn't realize it was located inside a ghost kitchen, so it took me a minute to find the place since it's kind of tucked away. Once we got our order, we dug into the bread right away. It was super soft, light, and chewy, just like you'd hope from a good shokupan. We also tried the honey toast. The bread on that one was firmer, but still pretty good. The loaf was $18, so definitely on the pricier side, but overall it was worth trying!

Yelp
The bread is worth. You can order from their storefront or order for pickup at specific locations they list on their website. I have tried the salted butter shokupan and the honey toast. Love their honey toast the most. You can taste the great high quality ingredients used to make the breads. They are soft texture and it was good. There isn't any added preservatives so consume while its fresh. I have ordered twice and would recommend.

Yelp
Ordered it online and picked up at sunlight. The toast was awesome. It was soft and milky and tasty. Loved it when it was warm

Yelp
Good quality of bread. But high in calories. My kids love it. However they don't come often to west LA
