Bing Mi and Tokyo Sando Are Moving Into Downtown’s Midtown Beer Garden | Eater Portland

"I noticed that after owner Taiki Nakajima sold his food truck and returned to Tokyo to help at his family’s Ginza neighborhood izakaya, Tokyo Sando has resurfaced downtown and debuts today at Midtown Beer Garden." - Janey Wong

The Sandy Jug Tavern Opens Soon in a Storied Roseway Building | Eater Portland

"Taiki Nakajima teased the return of his former Japanese food cart Tokyo Sando in an Instagram post, but as of now its rebirth remains unclear. Nakajima closed and sold the truck in December 2023 and returned to his hometown of Tokyo to work at his family’s izakaya; the post says he “talked with his dad about taking over his dad’s izakaya restaurant in Ginza, Tokyo” and notes that many people are waiting for Tokyo Sando to be back, though “He will be okay without Taiki for few more years.” The post also lists Tokyo Sando’s former downtown address." - Janey Wong

Came here as it was highly recommended on social media and our hotel. We ordered the beef sauce cutlet sando and shrimp cutlet sando and it was average, like good for a quick lunch or afternoon snack, but definitely wouldn't queue for more than 10 mins. We waited close to 30 mins for both Sandos at 2:30PM but totally understandable as it was a one man show. Worth a try? Yes. Worth coming back again? Nah.

Ginza Sand is not just a sandwich shop; it's a destination for experiencing one of Japan's most delightful culinary art forms: the sando. Located in the heart of Ginza, this spot elevates a simple concept into a luxurious, must-try treat. The secret starts with the bread, which is impossibly fluffy, cloud-like, and moist, providing the perfect, delicate casing for the fillings. You can immediately tell that everything here is truly handmade, as the sign mentions. The quality of the ingredients is impeccable. I highly recommend trying one of their signature fruit sando options. The seasonal fruits—whether it's sweet, plump strawberries or creamy mango—are always perfectly ripe and paired with a light, subtly sweet cream that never overwhelms the fruit's natural flavor. The presentation is stunning, cut perfectly to showcase the vibrant filling. For a savory option, their classic Tamago (egg salad) sando is arguably the best in Tokyo; it's creamy, rich, and addictive. While there can be a short wait (a testament to their popularity and focus on fresh preparation), the staff is friendly and efficient. This is the ideal spot to grab an elegant treat to enjoy while strolling through Ginza or to take back to your hotel. If you are looking for an elevated, yet comforting, Japanese food experience, do not miss Ginza Sand!

This place is take out to go only. Order at the window, wait for your order, then eat it somewhere else. The prime Japanese beef cut fillet sandwich was unbelievable. Melt in your mouth with fluffy bread. Was it worth 3200 yen to me? Probably not, so I wouldn’t get it again. It took 20 minutes after placing my order to receive it for pick up. At least you know they make it fresh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Google
found this place through TikTok and it did not disappoint. These sandwiches are sooo good! The steak was cooked perfectly and the bread has a nice toast but still super soft. The egg sandwich melted in your mouth! I don't like egg sandwiches typically but this changed me. Definitely recommend trying this spot! We came at a time with no line but the wait was 20 minutes to cook as everything is fresh. We didn't mind the wait becuase there are so many shops nearby to walk in while you wait. The only downside is there is nowhere to eat. Thankfully our hotel was nearby so we took it there to eat.

"Ginza Sand" is a popular, high-end sandwich shop (sando-ya) in Tokyo's Ginza district, famous for its Japanese-style katsu sandwiches . It operates primarily as a takeout and delivery shop. Signature Items: Must-try items include their Egg Katsu Sando and the premium Prime Beef Filet Sando . I tried the egg sandwishz it was scramble eggs with mayo. It was good, only problem is take out only. And long line up always . Since it was handmade, it will take 20 mins to wait.

Had the famous gyukatsu sando from Ginza Sand as the late night snack of the first night in Tokyo. Beef was extremely juicy, although slightly on the rare end of a medium-rare doneness. Looks small in the photos but definitely not bite-size unless you can open your mouth wide enough. Wanted to get the soup, since it was a relatively cold night (Tokyo just experienced severe downpours 1-2 days back on the 11th and 12th Sep and the day itself was cloudy). Unfortunately, the soup was sold out when we reached. Definitely a must-try when you are in Tokyo, for the thickness of the katsu as well as the juiciness.

Don't listen or read the haters' reviews. This is easily one of the best meals and sandwiches you'll ever experience and it's worth every minute in line and every minute waiting and every penny paid. I went two days in a row because the sandwiches are just that good. I waited about 30 minutes in line and 45 minutes for my food the first day, then about 20 minutes each in line and waiting for my food the second day because I did arrive a bit earlier. They get busier the later you go. Staff is so friendly and sweet. The shop is super small and the menu is large enough to read with a good variety of sandwiches. My absolute favorite is the premium beef cutlet. 3200 Yen or about $22. The meat is so tender and soft and juicy and just impeccable. The flavors are phenomenal and the crispiness is just the perfect touch to an already excellent cutlet, plus the soft bread with the slight toast just makes this beyond words can describe. I was shook by how good the croquette sandwich was. Again, fried to the beautiful crispy golden brown.Perfectly toasted bread. And that croquette filling? My god. Sublime. Rich and dense and flavorful and just wonderful. Now my least favorite of the three but by no means "bad" was the salt pork cutlet sandwich. The bread was again, perfect. The pork cutlet was, like the other two, perfectly fried, and the juiciest and so so soft. You can literally see the juices glistening in my photo. The ONLY reason I was a little put off was the big rock salt pieces on top of the sandwich. I thought by "Salt" they just meant the seasoning but the big pieces of salt on top make it a bit too much and I had to scrape off as much as I could. Overall, and excellent and must visit while in Tokyo

we waited around 20 minutes just to place our order. Once we ordered, we were told there would be an additional 40-minute wait for the food, which we agreed to. When we returned to the shop after about 32 minutes, we were told our food was already ready. Unfortunately, by the time we started eating, the food had gone slightly cold, which makes me wonder how long it had been sitting there before we picked it up. As for the food itself — it was a mixed bag. I ordered one of their premium meat sandwiches, but the meat turned out to be quite chewy and underwhelming overall. On the other hand, the chicken tenders/drumsticks were excellent — crispy, juicy, and flavorful. Definitely the highlight of the meal. All in all, it was worth trying once

Yelp
Probably one of the best things I ate while in Japan. Delicious is really an understatement! This sandwich spot is open from 5pm - 3am which is quite odd hours so be aware before coming during the day. It's a super small store front where you order and wait outside. They will come out with your order and find you outside their store. Garbage bin right in front of heir store for you to trash your stuff after eating. The food here is so good, never had such a delicious sandwich in Japan. Here's what we got: Egg cutlet sandwich 5/5 - This was so amazing and the best thing I ate while in Japan. First bite into the sandwich and you get a crispy layer which is unexpected but makes for it to be so delicious. Fluffy bread and delicious interior, definitely get this! Prim japanese beef fillet cutlet sand 3/5 - Looks like it'd be super delicious since it comes with a huge piece of beef fillet, but I think you can skip this one. It's good but not a must get. It also comes at a steep price of 3,200 yen. Shrimp cutlet sand 5/5 - Another great one! The shrimp is delicious and crispy with a soft interior. Must get this as well. Eel cutlet sand 5/5 - You get large pieces of eel in this sandwich and is so tasty. Overall I found myself constantly thinking about these sandwiches throughout my time in Japan because it was THAT good! A must try!

Yelp
Service was quick! Food was delicious! There is no dine in options. It's a walk up and order window! Stand is open until 5am so this hit the spot for my 1am cravings

Yelp
This steak sandwich was melt in your mouth buttery. A little on the pricey side for a very small sando, but honestly the quality of the ingredients make it worth it. The place a small little window on the side of a building not too far from the Uniqlo flagship store. When we arrived there wasn't a line but once we put our order in a line quickly formed. We waited about 10 mins for our sandos to be prepared. Unfortunately there's no where to sit near by so we ended up eating the sandos standing on the side of the street. If you're really hungry the sandos are pretty small but if you're looking to a small snack like we were it was great.
