Where to Eat and Drink Around DU This Fall (Whether You Are a Student or Not) | Eater Denver

"This casual sushi spot, which is located on the ground floor of one of the many high-rises that populate this neighborhood, offers a varied selection of sushi, as well as bento boxes and hibachi entrees (including seafood). The sushi combo, which consists of 10 assorted pieces for $21, and Rainbow Lover, two pieces each of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and white fish with one rainbow roll, are good options for trying several types of sushi without dropping too much dough," - Gigi Sukin

Did all you can eat for the second time. Fish quality was good and the rolls tasted great. They were a bit slow to get us our food initially, but it was not a big deal. They will charge for leftovers but their menu is very clear on this so there are no surprises. Overall, definitely good AYCE for the price with a solid selection

Mihir Bhatt

Google
Insane deal, crazy fast, unbelievable flavor. Definitely going back!! That salmon skin seaweed salad was a 9.8/10! Overall 9.4/10

Google
Update: Tried the AYCE special and was impressed by the quality, selection, and value overall. Would definitely come back. Sightly above average all around. Nothing to wow or moan about all that much. A decent place for a lunch special at a decent price. Service is no nonsense and quick.

Magda A. Jabbar

Google
Great service we had here, and quality of sushi is up there. Prices are decent for the location. I wish the seaweed salad wasn’t sweet.

Grace R-L

Google
DELICIOUS food. A bit pricey so take advantage of their deals (for Cali or rainbow roll if you spend a certain amount). I have only done takeout but will definitely go back. The seaweed, tuna, salmon, and yellowtail salad was delicious and the Sparkle roll and salmon roll were both amazing. I don't normally order special rolls but theirs are inventive and more fish-filled; feels more worth your money than other places.

Trishia A

Google
We’ve been to a lot of AYCE restaurants, but this one is the worst. It’s crazy how they added auto grat of 18% as we were only a party of 4 and the service wasn’t even that good. Host/Owner and our server acted like they don’t want us to be there not even a single Hi or Hello. We asked our server about the 18% grat as it says on the menu that 6 people or more a 20% gratuity will be added. So the host/owner said “that 20% will be added for a party of 6 and 18% for a party below 6” but that doesn’t say on the menu. We don’t mind tipping as we work on the same Industry. Asked to talk to the manager and the host said “I am the manager/owner” but didn’t bother to answer our concerns. She pointed on the menus and was like “I’m working on the menus you see you see”. Never going back to this place.

Google
Great food, super nice staff. Should have come in sooner!

Google
I used to love this place, but they just changed their menu and got rid of what I would always order... the two roll combo with a salmon mango roll and a yellowtail scallion roll. These rolls aren't on the menu anywhere anymore and I'm very sad. If I can order a salmon mango avocado roll, why can't I order a salmon mango roll? Edit in response to owner: That's not what I was told at the restaurant.

Yelp
This is a solid sushi spot. I've come here twice during lunch happy hour, and I have to say, it's a great deal. A nice selection of sushi and apps at very affordable prices. And the happy hour sushi does include some of the more robust special rolls, most of which we've tried. Price points on the sake and drinks are also good. And, even more importantly, the sushi is delicious, and the cream cheese wontons are some of the best I've had! Service is very efficient, although both times I've gone, I've had the same server who was a bit brisk and cold both times. Not rude, but just no-nonsense, and I've yet to see them smile. But at the end of the day, they took care of my table, and brought the food out fast and in order. Most importantly, the food was great. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Every time we visit Steadman Aesthetics in the same building. We love the sushi and rangoon. It is always so good. We are there during happy hour so we always order off that menu and usually get a saki as well. All options are going to be solid no matter what you choose. We don't do a lot of repeats right now since we are still newish to Denver but Ginza is a solid repeat.

Yelp
Love this place! I try to go here a few times a term with my friends for cocktails and sushi. We always order cheese wontons and clear soup. I switch up the rolls but my favorite is the yummy yummy. Yoyo, the server who is always there, is very nice and efficient. Drinks are pretty affordable as well! Overall, love the menu, ambiance, and prices.

Yelp
Came here on a Wednesday during off hours, 1pm, and had a great time. Fast seating, service, and food! The appetizers we ordered were our lightining fast: the gyoza and edamame. Both were perfect and went fast at the table. We sampled the Sparkling roll, the Ginza roll, and a couple other delicious rolls I have now forgotten the name of. Literally nothing was left. Great little spot perfect for a small-medium sized group. Excellent speciality rolls!
google avatar

Lauren L.

Yelp
This is a very solid sushi spot, especially for Denver. Being landlocked, I've become accustomed to paying through the nose for good sushi, or sacrificing on quality. Ginza delivers fresh, tasty sushi (and hot options like teriyaki) for a reasonable price. We ordered a bunch of rolls, and while all were good, the Golden Roll was the crowd favorite. Made with sweet potato, it was the only vegetarian roll we ordered. Go figure! Absolutely delicious. Service was prompt and friendly. The place was clean and open.

Max M.

Yelp
Great service and amazing food to eat!! everybody is nice and we are treated amazingly!! if you want some good sushi and an amazing experience, this is your go-to place!!!!
google avatar

Ellie B.

Yelp
This place is amazing. I'm vegetarian and they have don't have a ton of options but everything they do have will not disappoint! Their egg rolls and cream cheese wontons are great and the sushi is even better. It all comes out pretty quick, sometimes hard to get your server's attention but otherwise great service and good sake. Comfy seating and a convenient location right by University of Denver. You have to try this place, it is so delicious and reasonably priced.
google avatar

Jack S.

Yelp
Finally got a chance to eat here. Benihana's hibachi would have been cheaper, had more protein, and no $5 upgrade to fried rice (just rice and soy sauce here). The food was alright, but I should've definitely tried the sushi at least.
google avatar

Justin F.

Yelp
Solid! Good if you are craving sushi - I wouldn't necessarily say they have groundbreaking food but it is consistently really good!
google avatar

Sam W.

Yelp
First time. Very pleased. Did a take out order and it was great. Worth the price. Well packaged, very tasty with quality. Will be back.
google avatar

Marc T.

Yelp
Reminds me of the sushi I had in California. I went at 3:00p and it was almost empty: which is how I like it. I ordered the Phoenix and the Yummy yummy rolls and a miso. All were just as good as I'd hoped. The miso wasn't too salty but could have been warmer. The atmosphere and service is perfect. The noise from the busy street outside is 95% blocked out which is great. If I could improve something it would be adding a fish tank. 4.6 stars!!
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
I thought what I ordered was good, sufficient, and accurate, but not outstanding. My rolls were packaged nicely and the flavors were good! I suppose since this is a landlocked state I can't expect the same quality of fish as the coast at this price point. My biggest gripe was probably the wait time. There was someone in front of me who had been waiting for over an hour from his original pick up time for his TO-GO order. my order was supposed to be ready in 20min however I waited an extra 35minutes after that. Bottom line: If you're in the area and craving sushi at a good price point I would come here, however I wouldn't go out of my way

Patches O.

Yelp
Extremely inconsistent. Overpriced for the quality of work here. Place smells like fish fairly often which is not a great sign if you prefer your sushi fresh. I live above and see a seafood delivery maybe ONCE a week. That is in stark contrast to many other nearby spots that get daily deliveries fresh. And with their pricing, it doesn't make sense. Service inside is acceptable but not great. I've gone here a handful of times and have never walked away feeling happy with the quality of fish.

Yelp
Yup. IM DEF going to make the drive up to Ginza Sushi again because hot damn it was delicious, and my husband totally agrees... HE RATED THIS RESTAURANT AN 8 out of 10 and it would have been a 9/9.5 out of 10 if they served COKE products! I don't drink soda so I didn't care... Here's what I ordered: - Sashimi Roll (cucumber wrapped fish)... Super tasty! Just wish I requested NO sauce. - 5 Salmon Skin Handrolls without rice or sauce... OH MY GOOOOOSSSHHHH! So so so so so perfectly done! - 1 Unagi & Avocado Handroll without rice... The perfect combo of fatty and thick deliciousness! - Edamame... SALTY PERFECTION! My mouth was THRILLED and my wallet was even MORE thrilled when our bill wasn't all that expensive and when you check in on Yelp, you get 15% off!

John G.

Yelp
Sushi was well presented, The salmon and tuna was delightful; however, the Yellowtail roll had bone in it.. this was off putting and I feel the Itamae should have caught this..
google avatar

Claudia K.

Yelp
Wow what a delicious meal. The salmon was 10 out of 10. The fried rice was delicious! everything was very clean including the restrooms. The service was excellent.

Tina Z.

Yelp
Very conveniently located across from DU campus. Parking is very easy behind the building in the parking garage. Great spot to get together with friends. Ordered different sushi many times and every time was very pleased. Sashimi is excellent, really enjoy the melting in mouth sensation. Staff is friendly and great attention to details. Highly recommend!

Lindsey W.

Yelp
We always order delivery from here! We typically get edamame, miso soup, shumai, and a few hand rolls. The sushi is simple but great, fresh, quality flavors. Delivery tends to be fast, too.

Fengyi L.

Yelp
This place has the most fresh sushi! I love the white tuna sashimi and the mango roll! Quiet place for conversation too. Highly recommend!

Yelp
So good. Our normal place was booked solid. So ventured out to try new place and it was on point.

Frankie W.

Yelp
Great food and great service. The Yuki roll was one of the best rolls I ever had. 3. Rainbow Roll 12. Yuki Roll 15. New York Roll

Brittny P.

Yelp
Kind, attentive, and wonderful staff/service. I live down the street from them and I have been getting food from Ginza for over three years pretty regularly. The quality is always wonderful, the price is reasonable, and they are always consistent. I highly recommend Ginza for a relaxed and quality Japanese dining experience!

Yelp
WHO: My friend Carrie J. and I! WHERE: Ginza Sushi Grill is a sleek modern restaurant located in the DU area within walking distance from the college and tons of other bars and restaurants. WHEN: A couple weekends ago killing some time before our significant others rec league hockey game at DU. WHY: Sushi of course! Does there really need to be another reason?! Didn't think so. WHAT: We tried three rolls total - the Mexican Roll, the Spicy Tuna Roll, and the US Dream Roll. The Mexican Roll was super tasty and unique! It had spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, jalapeno, and cream cheese. Each piece was large too! The Spicy Tuna Roll was simple and traditional, but still delicious. The US Dream Roll was awesome! It had spicy crab meat inside, topped with tuna, salmon, and avocado. I can't wait to try some other menu offerings!! Ginza Sushi Grill was delish! I'll be back for seconds, thirds, and maybe even fourths!!

Yelp
Been to several sushi places in Denver. Not only is Ginza the most reasonably priced, but it has just as good quality sushi as any restaurant in town. Did I mention they offer 2 for 1 sake deals EVERY DAY?? No matter when my girlfriend and I decide to go, the restaurant is never busy and we are always able to take a seat at the bar. The staff is consistent, very friendly, and always provide us with a great dining experience. They also offer bento boxes and hibachi that is very good. I also really like that it is in a great location right next to the University, so there are plenty of places within walking distance to the restaurant. I cannot wait to get back to Denver in a couple weeks to hit up one of the best sushi spots in Denver!

John B.

Yelp
Hibachi was awesome. Great food and truly a fun family experience. Entertaining and the chefs really tried hard. They have a Diablo sauce to try to match their competitor. Portions good and the chef really tried to make things to order - even asked who wanted teriyaki sauce. Lots of food throwing and sake into the mouth tricks. All around great time. They have a tough location. I hope more people discover this place. Love the staff.

Yelp
Friendly & helpful staff! Great hand selection! We did not have air long either. Sushi was made right in front of us & was very yummy!
google avatar

Kayleigh W.

Yelp
Wonderful food. Great service! They have deals that you can't match! I recommend the fried clam roll super yummy!
google avatar

Morgan B.

Yelp
If you're vegetarian and are in the mood for VERY TASTY hibachi - this is your spot. It's super affordable for vegetarian entrees. Including sushi! Meat options were more pricey but not outrageous. I God the veggie sushi combo and the hibachi vegetable combo and both were amazing. I got it to-go but I'd love to dine in next time.

Yelp
This is the first sit down sushi restaurant I've ever seen that offers a delivery. I suppose that's cool for the university students who want below-average sushi at above average prices. You get six sushi rolls for your order unless otherwise stated. The sushi itself isn't amazing and neither is the service. It's pretty lame when you have limited time for a lunch break only for them to forget your order especially when there's so few customers. The fried rice was so oily that George W Bush would have a field day with it. Overall, this place is reminiscent of Elephant Bar, a nice aesthetic sit down area to take a client but the food itself isn't very fulfilling.
google avatar

Hanna K.

Yelp
Honestly, I love this place because the staff is so kind. The food is pretty great as well too. I love how this place delivers especially near the DU area, which is very convenient. Their specialty rolls are really great and they are a lot cheaper than other sushi restaurants in Denver. Big fan of: -Sake Bombs -Yum yum Roll -Dragon Roll -Shrimp Tempura roll -Miso Soup -green salad -17.99 bottle of wine -LOCATION Overall, a great restaurant for the price and area.
google avatar

Beatriz L.

Yelp
Best friend said she went here 3 years ago and it was the best sushi she's ever had so my family and I had to go and try it. My dad's not a huge fan of sushi but really loved Ginza's! We were so surprised at how fresh and delicious it was. Definitely coming back whenever I'm back in Denver.
google avatar

Salem M.

Yelp
Got takeout yesterday, very good and the free california roll was appreciated! Definitely ordering again in the future
google avatar

Steven S H C.

Yelp
stopped for quick carry out.. couple of rolls to go. as soon as I got it, was greeted by that darn funky smell. hate it, but had no choice to but order and move on. it's hard to find any Japanese restaurant that's open for late lunch honors especially on Sunday. ... to be continued
google avatar

Bettina M.

Yelp
I've ordered from here twice, the Phoenix roll is great- how could you not like fried fish? The crispy outside and sauce that's drizzled on top makes it quite tasty. It's very filling and I could only eat 3 pieces before I was full. I also got the fried rice and dumplings. Fried rice is fresh. I like the bits of onion in it, could use a little more seasoning. But it's still very good I would order again. (One side = a full meal) The dumplings were basic, the fried bottoms made them worth it. Very basic but worth the price. I got 6 for 5$. The photos are what was left after I had my fill!

Judi K.

Yelp
Ordered for a party and every single item delivered was superb. Fish was very fresh, cut beautifully, and the teriyaki chicken was incredibly tender. Super tasty!

Jenny S.

Yelp
I really want to go into great detail about the horrors my intestines faced right after eating here so that the manager has to read it and understand the physical and mental pain both I and my toilet faced today, but I won't so that innocent Yelp review readers don't have to read it and suffer. I don't know if I'll ever recover or look at myself in the mirror again
google avatar

Kirsten C.

Yelp
Have never eaten in here, but we ordered takeout and we were very satisfied. Roll selection was plenty and our food was fresh and delicious! Highly recommended for a take out spot!
google avatar

Yelp
One of my buddies noticed this cozy looking sushi joint while we were walking down University. After he expressed that sushi would be a good lunch idea, me and our other pal decided it'd be a good idea. When entering the place it had a comfortable, but super fancy modern interior. The black booths were so snug; I almost wanted to stretch my legs and lay across the bench! We decided to tackle a few bento boxes because, naturally, those were affordable and emphasized on the lunch menu; it was only $9! I decided to get the teriyaki salmon bento box, while my buddies got the teriyaki chicken and teriyaki salmon as well. We found ourselves barely putting our chopsticks down; the food was a masterpiece! The box came with crunchy wontons, a bed of rice, the teriyaki salmon, veggies and three pieces of sushi. Everything was a burst of immediate flavor! The sushi had a much larger amount of content as opposed to a large amount of rice. The salmon was warm, tender and crisp! It blended excellently with the crunchy veggies that accompanied it. And, of course, the wontons were on point! Check out Ginza Sushi Grill for lunch, excellent prices!
google avatar

Justin S.

Yelp
Good atmosphere but not the best sushi, miso soup is also kind of "eh" also. They offer a wide variety of different sushi rolls to choose from, but when it arrives the sushi rice is more on the hard side and the rolls themselves usually doesn't have very much flavor. For the "premium" sushi prices they charge, the money is probably best spent elsewhere.
google avatar

Catherine S.

Yelp
I like this place! We ordered from here while watching the masters. I've had better in Denver so I can't give it more than 3, plus it's not that cheap. Was about 60 to split between 4. The delivery was quick, which is nice when cravings are strong! I like the egg rolls a lot. I also tried the Ginza Roll, which was great but a little pricey. I would recommend this in the neighborhood but have hard it's not up to Sushi Den's par, which is on my must try.
google avatar

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
I give it 2 stars because it's clean and decent service. But .... ZERO. Stars for sushi ! Holy Sh. ... King Soopers is better sushi. 2 Japanese guys behind bar - and warm, tasteless , mush is the best you can do... My son had chix fried rice. It was a pile of rice with chix. That's it. Not even a hopeless frozen pea or egg or .... just rice stirred in chix. Wow! Talk about Top Chef. This place must be laundering money - how else could it stay open.

Yelp
We made an order on the official Yelp App, our food was delivered exactly at 9:23pm as promised. The delivery man was incredibly sweet, we enjoyed him. I was sooo hungry and wanted food delivered to the house. My friend insisted Sushi. I started off with the dynamite ($9.00) as my main appetizer, it was not wowing me for some damn reason. I wish I could remember where I had the ultimate dynamite who stole my heart. I'll have to look more into that. However, ever since ordering it, I have developed some strong worth on it, some high expectations for sure. The cheese Rangoon ($4.50 for both.), we ordered two of those. Super creamy and good. I loved it. I got the mango roll, (12.00) the mango roll never disappoints, but immediately, my friend and I felt somewhat uncomfortable with the taste. It didn't taste as fresh, the mango was slightly off-- I can't put my finger on it. The California roll ($4.50) was boring, I have no idea why my friend ordered that to begin with. Well I had some of that, and it was very plain. I noticed from our order description that we just got the regular, so nothing too exciting. The Salmon Carpaccio ($10.00) was indeed delicious and mildly spicy. Super exciting and very much desired for next time we order. My friend ordered 2 pcs of the Yakitori so I can't really judge on it. He seemed to have enjoyed it. We had the tempura combination (Shrimp Tempura $7.00) and it was decent, I only had the coconut and my friend had the rest. It was just as I expected it. My dessert was a disappointment because it was falling apart and they didn't drizzle any chocolate or whipped cream and they usually do that. There was this weird little white decor on the bottom that made it hard for my fork to grab on. It was just not as pleasant. Our food made me feel mildly sick after a while. I didn't feel like my tummy felt settled. Overall, still a place to consider if I wanna order from them again. I'm just going to expect differently next time. Hopefully I'll enjoy it the second time around.

Yelp
On a scale of 5 stars, I will say there are better top-end sushi restaurants in Denver. But this is a solid go-to for consistently great food, and great customer service. I've never had a bad experience at Ginza, (although most of the time I order take-out). One time I got home and realized they didn't put my wontons in the bag (I should've checked, but they never messed up my order before so I didn't). I called - to vent more than anything. Nothing like that feeling of getting home to realize the order is wrong (but not wrong enough to get back in the car and go back). I was really pleasantly surprised when they offered to have my wontons delivered to me. On a Friday night no less. 15 minutes later, they arrived and hit the spot. Not many places I know would do this. I'll keep coming back to Ginza for my go-to sushi in the area.
google avatar

Conner C.

Yelp
Overall quality of good was poor, frozen gyoza, and the rice in my poke bowl was uncooked at parts. Pretty dissapointed considering the price.
google avatar

Suki M.

Yelp
To start, Im utterly disgusted. I found a chicken foot with nails attached in my chicken fried rice. I am repulsed, it was bland rice as it was and to find that in there is gross. They should be using quality pieces of meat in their dishes. Never coming back. 0/5
google avatar

Jen D.

Yelp
LOVE this place! I've been here several times for lunch and their bento box is amazing. Meat is cooked well and fried rice is very tasty. I've taken several clients here as well and they love it. Never had any issues with their service. They are fast and courteous. They also validate parking.
google avatar

Ellen L.

Yelp
The sushi didn't stand out as terrible or spectacular, but we enjoyed our time here and the service was great around 8pm. I had the salmon avocado roll and spicy yellowtail with miso soup, which came out to $15. The price was fairly competitive. Probably a good place when you need a quick, convenient sushi fix, but not to impress a date. There's underground parking that's validated for 2 hours, which is a nice perk.
google avatar

Adriana C.

Yelp
When me and my best friend eat here under annoying circumstances yet still love it, you know it's dece. 4 rolls, salad and soup... All excellent. We also ordered one hot sake and later they told us it was buy one, get one. If you insist lol! I would not go out of my way but this place was pleasantly surprising. Validated parking in the garage below!!!!!
google avatar

Munira G.

Yelp
The best sushi for a very good price. Sushi is fresh and just melts in your mouth. Me and my co-workers order their bento boxes for lunch. They are amazing and for a very reasonable price. You wont be able to finish it all. Their meals are non-greasy and healthy. Love, love & love. You have to try this place.
google avatar

Maddison L.

Yelp
Yummy sushi place close to DU. They had a great 2 for one saki deal when we were there.
