DUC HUONG offers a good selection of CHA~ (Vietnamese ham/sausage), a popular snack/food from Northern Vietnam where people pride themselves as professional CHA~ LUA rollers/makers. My mom is from the North & she always buy it here.
Traditionally, CHA~ LUA (literally means SILK HAM) is made of lean pork, potato starch, and fish sauce. There are also the variant types made out of beef instead. The pork pasty, Vietnamese fish sauce, salt, ground black pepper, and sugar, then wrapped tightly in banana leaves into a 7 inches high & 3 inches diameter shape and boiled.
DUC HUONG offers these CHA that are well-known for, if you come in the early AM, when the CHA was freshly made, still smoking hot, it goes so well with Vietnamese Baguette (BANH MI).
We used these CHA, slice them thinly over BANH CUON (rolled cake, it is a crepe-like roll made from a thin, wide sheet of rice flour filled with ground); over sticky rice dishes; over BUN (rice stick noodle soup dishes) & much more!
- CHA LUA - traditional ham, so delicious,
- CHA CHIEN - if fried,
- CHA HUE - from Hue Central Vietnam style, to serve with BUN BO HUE (spicy Vietnamese noodle soup).
- CHA BI - Ham with chewy pork skins - super delicious, but fattening!
- CHA BO - beef version.
Beside CHA, Duc Huong also offers other snacks such as CHA BONG (pork floss), Sweet sticky rices, BANH BAO (Pork Bun), NEM ( fermented pork sausage), and other Vietnamese popular snacks.
The quality here is consistent over the years, good price, friendly service and authentic CHA food! My mom loves it here & this CHA here is as good as it gets as I had it when growing up in Saigon.
