SF Gelato Maker Gio Gelati Opens City Center Bishop Ranch Location - Eater SF

"Very Italian San Francisco gelato shop Gio Gelati is beginning to expand, opening a second location farther afield in the Bay Area. It’s tucked inside the massive City Center Bishop Ranch development in San Ramon, where it starts scooping its flavors (like notable pistachio and melon options) Labor Day weekend." - Caleb Pershan

I had a busy start of the week but a perfect day for gelato when it was 83 degrees outside. When I reached the mall, I thought I might have to look for this place but you can't miss the board though it was a little inside next to Starbucks. It's a busy mall but luckily there is parking outside closer to the shop. I was given the three flavors of gelato in a three baby cone. I also got vanilla ice cream for my son. There were cute chairs outside the shop where we sat and enjoyed the ice cream. I really liked the three flavors of gelato in the baby cone, enough to taste it and so I was able to get a medium cone with two flavors, this time I got fig and pistachio. The gelato is not too sweet and tastes so natural to the fruits and nuts flavors. The service was great and the server was very helpful with deciding their flavors. It's a small place so you can't sit inside and outside it's only a couple chairs and a tat on each side of the door. If you're someone who doesn't like too much sweet and likes the natural flavors of the fruits and nuts then you should give a try to these Gelatos.

Google
Very good gelato! Very friendly customer service too. I liked the options available on the day we went but it will be great if there are some coffee flavors available as listed in their menu. I would like to try more options. Not too pricey. Please add more spread available to order.

Jen is AMAZING! You can tell that she loves what she does and interacting with others. My aunt and cousins came in here pretty late to closing but she was still serviced us and was very helpful and knowledgeable on the flavors. I will definitely go back!

Located on the lot mall next to Starbucks. Variety of flavors to try. It was tasty but could have been better.

Google
So far I love this place. The medium cup you get 3 scoops for $9 and the small cup it’s two scoops for $6.The flavors I have tried include, passion, mango, toasted almond and others always delicious 😋

Google
Great place for gelato with variety of flavors, some unique. There was sour cherry chip, milk & fig, cremino (similar to Nutella), capriccio (it had chocolate wafers in it) I got a kid-size cup of Pear & Chocolate. Really nice pear flavor with chocolate shavings. Perfect sweet tooth fix!

Google
Great tasting gelato! Yes, it may be a little more, but it’s high end. I think it’s handmade here in the area. Great customer service with a smile, too. Especially one of the workers. I think her name was Ellie. We’ll be back. The picture is of what happened to my cup of gelato in about 30 seconds.

Google
We had passion fruit, sour cherry chip, hazelnut, and milk and figs. Best passion fruit gelato I’ve ever had! Tart & not very sweet. Sour cherry chip was my friend’s favorite, and hazelnut was a standout 💖

Yelp
We kept saying we would try this gelato place out. But we always end up going to Salt & Straw. On this Friday date night, we decided to finally try Gio! We were served right away. We picked two scoops and were both vegan - mango and raspberry. We were not disappointed and finished the entire cup between both of us. The shop is small and very clean. Service was quick and our dessert was delicious! If you're looking for a local gelato place, visit Gio in San Ramon City Center!

Yelp
The other ice cream store has a very big line, so I went to this. The gelato was good but it is pricey compared to the scoop size. I am a little sad that the gelato is also not up to the mark. I tried Tiramisu, it was ok, not great. May be next time, I will try other flavors.

Yelp
It's solid gelato. Is it super super good? No, not really. I've had better Gelato and ice cream elsewhere, but it'll do when you have a strong hankering for cold, sweet ice cream. Do I expect it to match gelato I've had in Italy? No, but for the prices they charge, I feel it should be a bit better. As the kids would say, this was mid. They were generous with the scoop size and a mini cone came free with the order. Small cups get up to two flavors, and medium up to three. They had an assortment of flavors available, and I'm sure there would be something for everyone in your group. But could be better. Their marketing promises good stuff, "authentic Italian gelato tradition, to the freshest local California ingredients to create the healthiest, freshest, handmade gelato" but I've had better Gelato with much less marketing, like in Greece or the Philippines that just promised flavor.

Yelp
Yummy gelato ice cream. We had the matcha flavor on a cone it was pretty yummy. It was close to $8 for the scoop on a small cone. The location of this shop is perfect. there's so much to do from having ice cream , coffee, shopping or just hanging out. Cute spot. Service for the ice cream was quick and simple.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped by for a quick dessert, saw it was a local favorite and had to try it. We both got the dark chocolate, after trying about 6 different flavors. The best i tried from the 6 was the pistachio. I believe i tasted salted caramel, tiramisu, stiaccela i believe, and i think it was fig and the other flavors i dont remember. Not the best tasting gelato 1-10 it got a 5 Thats not passing in any gradebook Need a minimum of 7/10 to be passable. Anyway, dont come here unless you want a half the real gelato experience for double the price. American entrepreneurship at its finest. The Chocolate gelato ended up hurting my teeth really bad after. Go at your own risk. Staff was nice and the place was clean. Ambiance was a bit stale and lacked spark.

Yelp
Came here on a whim with a friend and tried the three scoop size. I had passion fruit, black cherry and a vanilla based flavor that I can't quite remember. The serving sizes were perfect and so tasty. The gelato was smooth with no grittiness or ice. I could eat a gallon of the passion fruit flavor if left unattended. Wonderful customer service and plenty of places to enjoy your gelato while at city center. For what it is worth, the day I went happened to be a Yelp Elite event that I was unaware of, and my friend and I didn't even mind having to pay. The gelato was well worth it.

Yelp
We were at Bishop Ranch and decided to give GIO a try as they were running a 15% promotion. I got a single cup of milk and honey as well as avocado flavors. I had wanted a cone, but you can only select one flavor for a small cone. My sister got the sour cherry and my husband got the hazelnut affogato. The serving sizes are very generous and we all enjoyed our flavors. However, I think the gelato is just a bit too sweet.
google avatar

Kris P.

Yelp
Pretty good gelats. Small but functional store with a small cappucino machine. Maybe about 10 flavors with a couple that caught our eyes. Stracciatella. And a vanilla orange. Disappointed they didnt have pistachio on this day. Had no clue what the strat was, nor did the young girl serving us haha. It was good. Like a creamy chocolate chip? But really love the textures and subtle flavors of the gelato here. Eat inside or eat fast, otherwise, the creaminess for sure melts this thing real quick. Pricing is reasonable for what you get. $10 for 3 flavors, which my wife and I barely finished. Will be back for different flavors. Chao!
google avatar

Veronica V.

Yelp
Delicious gelato! I had the hazelnut flavor and it was very good and creamy. There was one staff member running the place who was so patient with a family ahead of me who really wanted to try every single flavor! Kudos to her for taking the time and being so kind.
google avatar

Kara M.

Yelp
The storefront is unassuming, but when you walk inside, there are many flavors to choose from! We got a couple of cones with tangerine flavor and fig flavor. My personal fave was fig! These were such a treat! The young lady serving us was quick and friendly. Definitely coming back here for gelato again!
google avatar

Yelp
Got a small Affogato with vanilla gelato and real espresso (not decaf) and it was delicious! Just the perfect ending to a wonderful dinner with friends!
google avatar

Yelp
I've heard that this place has good options for Vegan ice creams, and have diary options too. Mango flavor in their menu looked enticing. Amaretto and the chocolate scoops were definitely enjoyable on a hot day.
google avatar

Yelp
So yummy! My sister lives in San Ramon and told me about this place. I have been craving spimoni ice cream or gelato but it's so hard to find that flavor anywhere. I combined their pistachio and sour cherry chip and it was amazing! My daughter got their stracciatella flavor and my 2yr old God daughter got their mango gelato. All flavors were great. I only gave them 4 stars because one of the ladies was not very patient with my God daughter and she was picking her gelato flavor, so they lost a star on their service. The inside is small but most importantly it's clean. We will def be coming here again.

Yelp
Service: standard service with friendly staff! Quick and no delays Ambiance: nothing particularly remarkable. It's a small shops that displays the gelato options and offers samples! Food: we had the hazelnut, fig, and Nutella. The texture was creamy and thick, though the flavors didn't particularly jump out as anything remarkable
google avatar

Dipali S.

Yelp
This gelato was so so so good! There aren't many options for gelato in the East Bay from what I've noticed, so finding this small shop in the City Center was a pleasant surprise. I highly recommend baccio, straciatella, and pistachio!
google avatar

Nick P.

Yelp
Not the best experience. Let's start with the service first. Upon arrival the young man working the counter failed to acknowledge us. He was too busy on his phone sitting in a corner to really care or notice. We had to call out to him so he'd help us. The young man didn't offer us any samples or at least let us know what some popular flavors were. We ended up getting pistachio and chocolate togo. Hubby and I carried our cups to the car to give the gelato a first try. We were hoping the bad service did not equate to bad gelato, but we were wrong. The pistachio gelato had no pistachio flavor. It was extremely bland. The chocolate was okay but could use improvement. Honestly speaking, I've had lots of gelato in Italy before and can vouch that GIO does not hold a candle to gelato in Italy. No, I am not expecting it to be exactly the same as Italy, but at least get the flavors to taste like what it should be. Then you can charge for $6.50 a small scoop. Otherwise, it's not worth it.
google avatar

Katherine G.

Yelp
Quite good and very generous portions! I stopped by for dessert after dinner, and it wasn't too busy. Especially compared to the lines at salt and straw. I chose a single scoop with kiwi and tiramisu as my two flavors. Kiwi was really unique, and quite fruity and refreshing. The tiramisu was definitely my favorite of the two though -- perfect texture and sweetness, and the coffee flavor definitely shown through. I'd come back if I was craving gelato!
google avatar

Yelp
My entire family loves this place. Gelato has a special indescribable something that regular ice cream just doesn't have. They have enough flavors to make everyone happy, including those (like me) who can't have dairy. They'll even allow you two flavors in any size order so you don't have to pick between your favorites. Now...a little lesson on etiquette. Do NOT come in here and ask to sample just about every flavor in the case creating a line that goes well out the door, then buy a small cup with two different flavors for you and your husband to share. Yes, we just watched that happen. Please, show some courtesy people!

Yelp
I love gelato, so it's no surprise I was super excited to try GIO Gelati. We came here after a very full lunch at Delarosa, but in my mind, there's always room for dessert! The store itself is quite quaint. However, GIO Gelati boasted a wide variety of gelato flavors, and they were even offering samples when I went (July 4th weekend)! One thing I will note is that the prices are on the steeper side (which I guess is expected of gelato stores). I got the kids size of the coffee flavor, which I believe came out to be about $5 or $6. That being said, maybe I was too full from lunch, but the kids size scoop turned out to be the perfectly sized after-lunch dessert. They really do tightly pack that scoop into the cup! The coffee flavor was scrumptious. Rich, authentic, flavorful -- it was almost as if I was eating iced coffee.

Yelp
This gelato place is located right next to Starbucks. I tried gelato a few times as a kid and never liked it. From those experiences, I thought I wasn't a fan of gelato. I'm going to Italy and I figured I would retry since so many people claimed it's similar quality to Italy. I got the toasted almond, pistachio, and passion fruit. It did not disappoint! The toasted almond was my favorite. It was so creamy, flavorful, and the bits of almonds in every bite was spectacular. I'm just drooling thinking about it. The pistachio was also very good. I wouldn't recommend getting a creamy and sweet gelato then transitioning to a sour and tangy flavor like passion fruit. The contrast in flavors made my mouth confused. The passion fruit was sour, but was pretty on point to what passion fruit tastes like. I'm proud to say I'm now a gelato fan and I can't wait to come back and try their other flavors. I can positively say that this place is as close to gelato from italy youre going to get.

Yelp
the two girls working tonight (4/9) were incredibly unprofessional. eating and drinking in front of customers? ridiculous. one of the girls (the only one actually working) started to make my father's affogato, TOOK A BITE OF HER PIZZA, and continued to make the shot of espresso. she then proceeded to eat a spoonful of gelato while taking my mom's order. the other girl "working" was sitting behind the register eating gelato and making a tik tok. health code where! unbelievable.

S P.

Yelp
I love the authentic Italian Gelato at this place. My only constructive criticism would be that the owner of the business needs to market it better. They need a LARGE neon sign in the window and a large sign outside marketing the gelato product. I walked by it and did not not know it was there the first time we went. They do have a sign outside, however its faded and too small. People walk by and don't know the business is there.
google avatar

Chayenne G.

Yelp
Best pistachio and pear gelato I've had! They have so many different flavors, but you've gotta try the pistachio and pear! The other flavors I tried chocolate orange, and almond vanilla orange tasted the same, and the straciatella was okay.
google avatar

Pooja R.

Yelp
If you're craving something cold and sweet, look no further than GIO Gelati! They have so many delicious flavors it was hard to choose! They rotate their flavors multiple times throughout the day. Their multiple size options allow you the ability to add multiple flavors to your cup or cone too! The capriccio flavor tasted like Nutella with chocolate wafers and was delicious. Their sorbets are also delicious and I enjoyed their mango sorbet! Occasionally, you may be able to find other items on sale too, like the colomba and hot chocolate stirrers pictured below.

Yelp
OMG Thiiisss plaaace is soooo delicious ..... I can't believe that I found my favorite flavors of Gelatos thereeeee it's awesome. The service soo good . I don't usually write reviews but this time I had to write. It's soooooo goooood. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Yelp
Ooh! Thank you for being open during COVID-19 Shelter in Place! One customer is allowed inside at a time. Staff wears a mask and gloves. Free samples given! Yay! They had lots of flavors - fruity, chocolatey, nutty.. It was hard to choose. We ended up getting a half kilo of sour cherry chip and a half kilo of 3 fruit flavors: mango, strawberry and passion fruit. Then we left with 3 baby cones because we couldn't wait to get home and break into the kilo packs. Yum!! The lady helping us was super friendly and nice. She was patient and chatty. I think we tried almost every flavor. Sour cherry chip was the family favorite! Milk and fig was also delicious! The lady recommended her favorite which was toasted almond. It was good too with whole toasted almonds!! The gelato is rich and creamy like ice cream but also smooth. I will be back again to try the other flavors we didn't get to.
google avatar

OliveR A.

Yelp
The gelatos looked like the real thing, so I was tempered to try a small cup of Tiramisu flavor. Looks were never more deceiving. Two spoonfuls latter it was clear this expensive ice cream at $6.50 a cup was too sweet. Did whoever produce it make a mistake measuring the amount of sugar to put in? We ended up throwing it in trash immediately as it was inedible due to the excessive sweetness. On the flip side the service was prompt and friendly. The icecream texture and smoothness was good too. I reckon if they reduce the sugar content by 80-90%, maybe the flavors will come out better. Perhaps they could offer low sugar options for those of us who think real gelato should not be sickly sweet?

Yelp
This is my new favorite gelato shop! Located in the wonderful, City Center San Ramon, on the bottom floor next to Slanted Door. This is a truly exceptional place for your authentic gelato! You can order your gelato in either a cup or waffle cone, and be sure to ask for two flavors! Their mint flavor is unlike any other: cool, almost burns your mouth! Chocolate: rich cocoa flavor Sour cherry: sour, sweet and yummy!
google avatar

Sophie T.

Yelp
I absolutely loved the gelato here! The owner/worker here was so nice and gave a nice background on the gelatos and offered to give samples! I tried the Chocolate and Hazelnut, which both had very strong and rich flavors. They had a lot of cool European flavors that I will definitely come back to try. The gelato was so creamy and thick! Even though the flavors I got were sweet, I didn't think it was overly sweet and I was able to finish it pretty quickly. This is such a perfect dessert / snack to have after a meal or when walking around the City Center. Pricing was around ~$5-6 for a Small, which is a normal price for good quality gelato!

Yelp
Gio Gelati is San Ramon's answer to Danville's Yersen Gelato. Its a small shop located right next to Starbucks in the City Center. I purposely ate a salad at Mixt in order to justify coming hear after lunch, LOL. That plus an afternoon 90-minute volunteer event in a warehouse followed by a 60-min Body Pump class. A small cup (~$7) can give you a choice of two flavors. Salted Carmel was good but the Capriccio was exceptional. Hazelnut and chocolate cream are meant to be together! One thing I do like about Gio is that they seem to have more variety in flavors. Another nice touch was the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack playing. Between Gio and Yersen, I have a slight preference for Yersen. The reason is that I find Yersen's gelato to be creamier, thicker and smoother. The gelato I had at Gio's seemed a bit "icier," but the flavors were still very good. Gio's is a whole lot closer to home and convenient, which is another big plus. 4 stars. I'll be back!

L N.

Yelp
The best gelato I've had outside of Italy. The raspberry and sour cherry/chocolate chip gelato flavors are amazing!!!!
google avatar

Evangelene G.

Yelp
We were leaving an event here and decided to stop by for dessert. The person in front of us was telling his friend, "Once you have this, you can't go back to ice cream." Well, he is right. The creamy goodness with the layers of flavors. We had the vanilla and chocolate version of the hazelnut gelatos (yes, I'm bad with names). The vanilla one has wafers in the gelato. While we're taking advantage of end of summer/Indian Summer, I would like to venture into the fruity flavors (i.e., banana) and mint chip (my go-to). The small child cup is enough for my pallette, but there were people in front of me buying the kilos to take home.

Yelp
So I came here kinda outta of my way because I saw it was a new gelato place , not really any around here. I especially liked one of the pics posted on yelp with all the different flavors. So I was really interested to come, but sadly I was disappointed because all the flavors that I would have liked to have were not available today. Since I came all this way of course I had to try something. Good thing they let you taste the first 2 I didn't like so I asked his recommendations and then tried that one. The flavor itself was good but I just don't feel like I was eating real gelato, it just didn't have the texture of gelato it was more an ice cream. FYI they have taken down the sign with all the flavors
google avatar

Brooke B.

Yelp
not an amazing place, especially when salt and straw is right around the corner (i would pick salt and straw any day) that being said, the ice cream/gelato is pretty good. i would say it's worth a try. i liked their fruity flavors, kiwi was really good! customer service was not great and the portions are small too.

Yelp
We came here after movie on Sunday. This place caught our attention while having happy hours next door at the Slant door. In and out non stop, sometimes with a longer line. We love to support small businesses so decided to give it try. Service: First we walked in, only one person behind counter. He's really friendly with a big smile on face. Few minutes later another person in blue shirt jumped right in from front door, didn't wear an apron nor wash his hands then started to help. Food: we sampled a few flavors and decided to go with a kids size chocolate and a large pistachio and tiramisu. We love the richness of all flavors, but some are overly sweetened from my personal opinion. Price: they ran out of kid's cup then told me that would be using small cup but not all the way filled. Of course, I don't want my kid taken too much sugar. Sometimes I ask to have lesser portion in a different store even I pay for full price. We have also requested to have the kids cone serve over a cup so it wouldn't be too big of mess for my little one. When the guy was ready to hand me the kids cup, the other guy scraped more out from cup then put the tiniest tiny cone on top. I was shocked with the way that they nickel and dime on this. $4.50 kids. $9.50 large cup. Just a thought, some small gestures can turn away any future business.

Yelp
We were passing by Starbucks at Bishop Ranch and randomly found this really cute gelato shop next door. Seema and Rose greeted us with a warm welcome and kindly let us sample various flavors, from Pumpkin, Holiday Crema, to Passion Fruit and Pistachio. Flavors tasted genuine and the quality is just as good as gelatos we've had in Italy. I'm obsessed with the baby cones, so crunchy and yummy. Highly recommend this Gelato shop for genuine Italian gelato!

Yelp
The newest addition to City Center, a much needed dessert place (especially for the ones with a sweet tooth). Gio Gelati is inviting and there were plenty of customers on late Sunday evening. We decided to grab some gelato right before hitting the theatre. The staff is friendly and patient. They gave us a few samples while we were making up our minds. They were out of the stracciatella, which tells me it must be their popular flavor. I was a little disappointed and then as if by serendipity I found Capriccio (some chocolate hazelnut magic flavor). It's going to be my new favorite. Their pistachio is amazing too, not the fake green that you usually find at the Icecream places, but a deep nutty brown-green. I consider myself a gelato snob and I can tell you that their gelato is very creamy and has a beautiful texture, you can certainly tell that it's made of quality ingredients. Everyone needs some "Capriccio" (or whatever is their favorite gelato flavor) in their lives.

Yelp
Such a great gelato place!! I love all the flavors they offer. The place is very clean and their staff is very friendly. They are very organized with their covid procedures. I love that they are one of the rare places that still allow you to sample their flavors. Given I went here during the outdoor dining allowances so I am not too sure on what they are currently doing. I am one of those people who love to sample almost all the flavors. I highly appreciate how their workers do not make you feel rushed with your decision or get another sample. I decided on the passion fruit and fig gelati. Both were amazing! My little critter loved the passion fruit. Super flavorful on both flavors. I am excited for my next visit over there to enjoy more. They are located in the new shopping plaza in San Ramon near bishop ranch. Located in a great area that if we could enjoyable be outside without masks would be a must to be at during the sunshine seasons. There are tons of parking. The pricing is standard compared to other gelato/ ice cream places. Space is super clean and welcoming.

Dylan S.

Yelp
You cannot beat this gelato. It is clear that the gelato is made daily. Every flavor is clearly labelled. Vegan options also included. The staff is friendly, including the owner.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute gelato spot inside Bishop Ranch that could be easily missed if you're not actively seeking for it. There's a whole variety of flavors to choose from so you'll need to hope pick right. I opted for the Espresso flavor with a waffle cone and though the flavor was great, the gelato was a bit too soft and was melting almost immediately. It was a bit filling but it was still nice to walk around and snack on

Yelp
Was so lucky to have Gio Gelati on Stanford's campus the other day! I had the passionfruit and it was perfectly tart, creamy, and refreshing! I can't wait to go to the actual location for more :)

Yelp
Good ambiance and service the gelato is tasty It's very cute and has ceramic cups for lattes

Yelp
How many different ways can you say YUMMY. It's been awhile since my gelato gorge in Venice and I happened upon GIO Gelati during a walk in San Ramon. Unfortunately at that time they were closed and didn't open until 12:00pm. Well, today I made it there during business hours and let me tell you it was worth the wait. They serve large, medium, small and kid sizes. I got the medium and filled it with three delicious flavors (pistachio, hazelnut and sour cherry) and each were excellent on their own. I found they are constantly changing flavors, so be experimental and have some fun too. There are plenty of tables outside, it was clean and the ambiance was pleasant. So try it, you'll like it!

Yelp
Yum, Yum!! When we were eating at the Slanted Door we saw a couple of cones walk by. We both love Gelato, and have had it in Europe. So we had to check this out. We both ordered Chocolate Hazelnut. Perfect creamy mouthfeel, flavors came thru nicely. Some of my favorite ever here in the states. Must come back, over and over!!
google avatar

Frances L.

Yelp
Delicious flavors!! The hardest choice you'll have here is deciding on which flavor and what size to enjoy! My husband and I wanted dessert and this hit the spot. We both loved the flavor of Sour Cherry Chip-strong cherry flavor with chunks of cherries and chocolate. It was perfect with a scoop of chocolate. My only complaint is that I wish the gelato was more firm. However, my husband thought it was the perfect consistency. I guess it's a personal preference. The gelato is delicious and I would definitely come back. Gio Gelati is a great addition to the City Center.

Yelp
I am beyond ecstatic that they have offered delivery to multiple locations throughout the Bay Area. Honestly, I don't know what could be better during shelter-in-place. I live in Martinez and have made multiple trips out to San Ramon. Of course the most exicting part of it was getting the gelato here. Sure they don't have as many flavors as other places, but it must be realized that they use local AND organic ingredients. Yes, it is healthier than your typical ice cream or gelato. It is a small business. Yes, it is pricey but because of how valuable it is. Not super sweet and heavy like other places. No yucky after taste. The flavor you get actually tastes like what you would expect it to be. The store always looks clean and employees have been nice. Not much sitting room, but it doesn't matter. It truly is a blessing to have them around and now even better to my front door. At first, I thought I would be able to control my cravings with such a convenience, but I was awfully wrong. First got the Gio Solo, then ended up getting the Gio Gusto one week later. I haven't gained anything during the shelter-in-place, but we'll see how it turns out now! I don't even care! If you haven't tried this place, you are definitely missing out.

Yelp
Gio Gelati is located near Slanted Door and offers several different flavors of gelato each day. The staff was friendly and let us sample the flavors before we placed our order. I've definitely had better gelato, but would consider trying this place again. The gelato was very soft and melted way too fast.

Yelp
Flavorful, refreshing, and perfectly creamy gelato. I'm so glad I finally gave in to my cravings and tried Gio Gelati after walking by here on various other shopping trips to City Center. If you're also craving gelato, it's right next door to Starbucks and across from the Slanted Door. It's not a large shop and only has a few tables and a high top bar, so most people take their gelato to go. You can sit in the community courtyard area or go for a walk like I did, but it would be nice if the space was just a little bigger. Gio Gelati offers a nice variety of flavors like passion fruit, pistachio, raspberry, vanilla, etc, but I decided to go with my usual Stracciatella (vanilla and shaved chocolate). It hit the spot. Loved the quality, taste, and I really want to try other flavors now. Service was friendly and the staff member had a good sense of humor after watching me pull and then try to close the door a few times before telling me that it was automatic. Noted! Anyway, one might say $5.50 + optional tip is on the pricier side for a small cup, but after eating and enjoying it, I can say that it was filling and my taste buds were satisfied, so it was well worth it.

Yelp
Gio Gelati is next to Starbucks. it's another home crafted gelato spot, not a factory version. Gio Gelati is impressive re it's freshnes, lack of iciness, ingredients/flavors locally sourced. tastes better than known gelato chains. But i may have tasted better. nevertheless, kids won't know the difference. licks: tiramisu & pistachio (7) 2 nice scoops. not Italian ones. -creamy, tiramisu mostly sweet, no other flavor tasted. -pistachio: nice nuanced flavor. -gelatos may have a sugar+ inbalance. 3.5 stars scoops: -lines may be evident at peak times

Yelp
Very small shop and not too many flavors. They also ran out of flavors - no chocolate or salted caramel. The gelato was also soft and melted. This place needs to make some improvements, otherwise I don't think they are going to survive. $5.50 for a small cup. I had the pistachio and vanilla chocolate chip. Both I felt were too sweet and the pistachio didn't really have that much of a pistachio taste and the vanilla chocolate chip had very little chocolate chip in it. The shop is located next to Starbucks at the City Center Bishop Ranch.
