We were lucky that we didn’t make a reservation but was able to get in without waiting.
The food was so good, we ordered eel liver, two kinds of grilled eel. I think it’s the best eel rice I’ve had so far and also the best of the three that I had during my stay at Kyoto.

The waitress always comes with a poker face like I own her money. She didn’t even give us enough water. We all left the restaurant very thirsty which is ridiculous. And the food is so average. The most popular item U-oke tastes very light maybe just a little better than supermarket frozen eel. Definitely will not come again.

Reserve only. We came here after we arrive Kyoto. We booked performance nearby at a rush time so we had only 1 hour to enjoy our meal, however we arrive on time and told the waitress we only have one hour and they served perfectly on a smooth pace. We had a great time enjoying best eel cuisine here (told by local friends). And we made it to the performance on time. Great service. They had Michelin one ⭐️. This restaurant is a must visit , totally worth it.

Traditional restaurant with their famous fresh cooking of eels. I order the large eel rice bowl. It was very delicious. Be careful with small fish bone. I think they have the bone because it was fresh. Those pre-cooked eel from other places do not have this kind of issue. But I love the freshness of the dishes. You have to have appointment to dine-in!

We were lucky to walk in.
We got the eel set, which begins with 3+ servings. Dunno about you but that's a LOT of eel. Got a bit overwhelmed by the end, flavor gets repetitive. The serving lady was very gloomy and unresponsive.

Ordered large unadon and unagi liver.
I walked in shortly after the opening hour. Even they were fully booked, they kindly let me in for 1 person and I had the whole restaurant by myself. The service was good and I could communicate using basic English.
I had unagi before and I like it. About this restaurant, the unagi I got was not much different from what I had before. Therefore, it was over-priced.
The eel was soft (so you can compare Kyoto crispy style) and there was no charcoal smell.
First time I tried grilled eel liver and it was good as apertizer with sake.

Searched this place for eel set lunch after visiting Kiyomizu-dera on a public holiday with my husband. We were supposed to make a reservation, but fortunately we got seats in between reservations. The eel set was excellent. If you go for popular foods in decent restaurants, reservations are required on public holidays.

It got Michelin one Star several year ago. Eel rice plate is so spectacular! Plating is so Japanese style, rice filled of eel's aroma, sweet and soft, so tasty. It's no problem for kids, because they clean out all the fish bones.... Feel so good to have this wonderful meal in Kyoto!
