Yelp
I was able to experience today the amazing sandwich world of Giorgino's, which is just north of the 94 freeway on 28th St. in my quest to find the best sandwiches in San Diego, my search led me here, and I definitely found a gem that I will be returning to
The inside of the restaurant takes you back to the family Italian restaurants of the East Coast, with a small bar and surrounding dining room. There were so many things I wanted to try this first time: Giorgino's offers a litany of different sandwich options, most notably hot sausage and Parmesan subs as well as different levels of seasoning on their cheesesteaks and chicken cheesesteak subs.
For my first time in, I opted for the gaucho cheesesteak sandwich with mushrooms, chimichurri, and melted mozzarella cheese. It did not disappoint: it was intensely flavorful, scalding hot to the bite and covered in melted cheese. The chimichurri taste of the steak was exactly what I was looking for. I was tempted to put cheese whiz on it, but opted not to this first time. I also stayed away from the pesto or garlic fries, as I was eating this meal in the car.
Service was friendly, and the cheesesteak came out promptly within five minutes as I relaxed at the bar and took in part of the day's college football games from the TV that hung above.
It is notable that Giorgino's get it's sausage and meats from the butcher across the street, Sepulveda Meats & Provisions, which makes its sausage on-site. Bravo.
