The 23 Best Restaurants In Florence 2024

"There’s plenty of pizza in town, but Giotto is a standout for the attention to detail in every single pie. They’re very particular about the dough—they use stone-ground wheat germ flour that’s left to rise for 36 hours, resulting in an airy Napolitano-style puffy yet light crust that’s the perfect canvas for the quality toppings. Try and snag a table near the open kitchen where you can get a close-up view of the pizzaiolos sliding each pie into the wood-burning oven. Start with a few crunchy fried appetizers, like the mini pasta frittata and arancini, and then prioritize the Naples to Florence pie—it’s all about the tart combination of the tomato sauce, 24-month-aged Parmigiano Reggiano, salty capers, and anchovies, which all get drizzled with extra virgin olive oil. To finish, bite into the aptly named “homage to margherita” which features a madeleine base with buffalo mozzarella cream, tomato jam, basil, and a caramelized cream puff cornice. I recently visited Giotto Pizzeria in Florence and was quite disappointed with my experience. Although Google Maps indicated that they closed at 23.00 pm, when we arrived at 10:15 pm, a young Tamil man (I believe) informed us that they were already closed. A few minutes later, a female staff member came and said they would close in 10 minutes and that we could order if we wanted to eat within five minutes. This was Not true because fifteen minutes later, two more girls arrived and sat down. The young Tamil man began to wander around the restaurant, humming tunelessly and making strange, almost dance-like gestures with his fingers. It was quite distracting and frankly, a bit unnerving. The pizzas were nothing special. The mushrooms on one of them were quite slimy, and overall, I felt that we paid too much for what we got. The glass of wine we ordered was disappointingly small. The pizzeria was quite busy, and the kitchen was directly opposite us, where they were mopping the floor. The strong smell of the cleaning product was unpleasant and detracted from our dining experience. Based on this experience, I would not recommend Giotto Pizzeria to others.

We’ve tried countless pizzas all over Italy, but this one is on another level. The dough is perfection—light, flavorful, and with just the right amount of crunch. The balance of ingredients is simply masterful, with every topping complementing the others in a way that’s unforgettable. This isn’t just pizza; it’s an experience. If you’re anywhere near this place, it’s a must-try—no excuses. Truly the best pizza we’ve ever had!

The crust is delicious—chewy and fragrant. However, the pizza flavor is quite average. We ordered the Carbonara flavor, but it just tasted like a plain cheese pizza. There was no depth of flavor, and nothing particularly stood out. The biggest disappointment was the appetizers. We ordered three items, and none of them were good. I didn’t even bother taking photos of them, but we had the meatballs, Italian rice balls, and shrimp balls. None are worth ordering.

On one of a cold Italian evening, that place warmed our hearts with its smiling staff and beautiful decoration, but most importantly, the taste is great! The pizza is all fresh and awesome. Our second visit in second day. I definitely recommend it, Pizza lovers!

Delicious pizza. We ordered four different ones, all of them really tasty, you can tell they use high quality ingredients. Only thing we did not like at all were the mushrooms on one pizza, but I guess it is just not our taste. All in all we would 100% recommend to have a pizza there.

Was disappointed in our experience here. Arrived for lunch and seated outside. All for fast and quick service but our pizzas came out within minutes of ordering and were a bit doughy. My fiancé ordered the sausage and broccoli pizza - the pizza could not be picked up it was so soggy from the oil. The taste was also awful. Perhaps recommend to stick to the Michelin star rated pizzas if you visit

Extraordinary pizza. Probably the best in town. We had the Giotto and the Napoli and were rather yummy and freshly cooked in a wood oven that you can see from your table. We also started with Fritura which was something surprising - a sort of potato and rice croquettes. We finished with a kind of lemon pudding which was also very tasty. The staff is very kind and attentive.
