Giovanni's Delicatessen Review - Sea Isle City - Jersey Shore - The Infatuation

"It’d be easy to cut a few corners, running a beach town deli that would draw in summertime crowds no matter what. Maybe take a little break from trying hard, or trying at all. Thankfully for everyone involved, Giovanni’s would never. The family-run deli makes a truly outstanding hoagie, one that would be among the best—even in Philly. The Diablo, with hot capocollo, is a favorite, and vegetarian or not, you should try the Jersey Basil with ruby red local tomatoes and fresh mozzarella. (If you’re not, though, definitely add prosciutto.) Instead of a backdrop of the Schuylkill, you’ll get to unwrap one from your beach chair, fending off seagulls while you enjoy the ocean view." - Regan Stephens

This was our second time there and we can’t wait to come back again! The food is always amazing and the service is always friendly and attentive. Highly recommend! We got the chicken parm sandwich on a seeded roll and the vodka chicken parm sandwich on a regular roll.

Google
This was a takeout order and we found the Mediterranean fries (photo) to be the highlight, especially the sweet potato fries. Cheesesteak was fresh but the bread was not tasty & not up to standard as other Philly cheesesteak establishments. Chicken cutlet was a generous portion and tasted good though could have been a bit more flavorful.

Google
Ordered late night cheesesteak and wings. Google said open till 12am but there is a bar inside and they are opened till 2:30. Already made pizza you can buy by the slice. Food was good and inexpensive. Lots to choose from. I parked in street and after 11pm on Friday you don’t have to pay. Staff was friendly

Google
I went in randomly to see what kind of pizza they had in slices. To my surprise they had a variety of choices and all fresh. I ordered a slice and can ginger ale they even gave me a small pack of gummies for a little snack 😊.Pizza was fresh and tasty. The staff were very pleasant and the atmosphere was cozy. When I finished my food and looked for the trash can is when I realized it was a whole bar and more tables to dine at in the back..I have to go back after work hours to try the bar out and come back with another review 😊

Google
The pizza here was really good, even the day after we bought, it was helpful and good for lunch. They also sell Philly cheesesteak which were okay, other places do it better. Rating the pizzas only.

Google
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Giovani’s Bar & Grill, and I must say it was an outstanding experience! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, perfect for a casual night out. The menu offered a fantastic variety of options, and I was particularly impressed with the selection of pizza and pasta dishes. I tried the cheesesteak and it was absolutely delicious—cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. The sides were equally impressive; the pizza was a must-try! The staff was friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. The drinks were also top-notch; I highly recommend the cocktail Overall, Giovani’s Bar & Grill exceeded my expectations. Whether you're looking for a place to unwind with friends or enjoy a hearty meal with family, this bar and grill is definitely worth a visit. I can’t wait to go back!

Google
Fun sports bar with a great kitchen that stays open late! You can get slices in the front or walk to the back and order from the full menu. The vodka penne, vodka slice, and cheesesteak were all delicious.

Pavithra S A

Google
Pizza by slice available and tastes really good. No vegan option yet and a very few vegetarian options available. Ambience and service seems to be good as we just went for take away and did not dine-in. Veg pizza and cheese pizza were delicious. Slice was quite big and filling. Crest was too good.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! Food was incredible only to be surpassed by the charming & attentive staff! Cant wait to visit again. We met a few regulars who indicated our visit wasn't a one-off.

Yelp
Pretty dope little space. Good menu. Plenty of televisions to view games. Went one night with a few friends to catch the Penn State v. Notre Dame game. No matter which was I was facing, I was able to see a television without any sort of obstruction. The sound was loud enough to where you can hear, but you didn't have to shout in order to have a conversation. They seem to have nailed this. Food was good, not great. Filled the hole and served it's purpose. Had a salad that I enjoyed. Maybe a *little* overpriced? But I'm not upset. Friends had pizza. They seemed to enjoy it because there wasn't any left. Service was terrific. Server was really friendly and made sure everyone was squared away. Solid 4* place that gives exactly what it advertises it'll give. I'll be back.

Yelp
Service was efficient. Food was good. Atmosphere was friendly. Looked clean. My only critique would have been slightly more meat on the hoagies
google avatar

Loyda E.

Yelp
Food turned out delicious and despite us being Dallas Cowboys fans dressed in our fan gear before the NGL game, The staff and other patrons were friendly and fun! (not commonly found in many spots when you're not an Eagles fan) so we highly recommend this spot!

Yelp
UPDATE- I finally received an apology 'after/post' writing reviews on 3 different sites and by reaching out directly to the restaurant for a 2nd time. In closing of the conversation I was asked to remove my review which is what I really think was far more important to them than my complaint and their employees actions. SMH!!

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal pizza. Should be your go to place for a slice of pie!! Stopped in to catch the 7th game of the Phillies NL finals. Drinks were great and the service was fantastic. Warm feeling the moment you step inside. Love all the brick walls that adds to the ambience.

Yelp
This is a great place to chill, watch a game and drink beer. Other than that I would not recommend the food. I ordered one of the starred items on the menu, the chicken pesto panini and it was not good. My friend ordered a Philly cheesesteak and he also did not care for it. Service though was great! Bartenders were very friendly and they played upbeat pop music which was fun. My Bloody Mary was average I would say about a 6/10.

Yelp
The slice here passes my test for a New York slice. Being from nyc, I've been on the hunt for a comparable slice in philly. This place is pretty good in my opinion but doesn't give nyc slice 100% but still is pretty decent. I would come back here for another slice. I also had their garlic knots which comes with a marinara sauce on the side. Knots were good! Pro tip: add Parmesan, onion powder, and oregano into the marinara and give it a good shake, and you'll take the sauce to the next level. Price is decent as well - I paid around $9 total for 1 cheese slice, 1 spinach slice, and 3 garlic knots. Inside has ample seating and the back is a bar. Service is also good too, I ordered at the counter and they brought my food to my table!

Yelp
I have been coming here for about seven years, I have always found the gourmet pizza very good. Lately, I found the pizza not as good. The meat would be dry, and the crust was way too thin, like a matzo with sauce and cheese. Also, there is a very rude pizza chef, I have been dealing with, here is how you order a slice: Step 1 choose slice, the one I want Step 2 Heat it up while I pay for it Step 3 Give my my slices That all, no attitude no side eye. One more time and I will take my business to John's.Pizza

Yelp
The security guard at the door was friendly and helped us find a seat in the back where the scooter would be out of the way. The server was super friendly, and he did hover or rush us (John). The cheesesteak eggrolls were delicious and crispy. The pizza cheesesteak was also delicious! The MJ punch was excellent and strong without being too sweet. The five-dollar (Statewide) special with a beer and a shot is a pretty decent deal. They played great music, and it was not too loud. It also looks like they allow dogs inside :) If we lived here, we would come here often.

Yelp
I stumbled across this place while looking for a dinner close to my hotel due to storms in the area. This is a hidden gem. The front is a typical pizza counter but the back opens to a cool sports bar theme. The wings were tasty, the meat lovers pizza was also great and the beer was cold. And the service at the bar was friendly. What more do you want? I'll be back again.
google avatar

Yelp
Great spot for a pizza - either to dine in with a drink at the sports bar in back, or to grab to-go and enjoy at home on the couch.
google avatar

Yelp
We went here on a whim. It did not disappoint! Food was really good. Atmosphere is totally like a bar & grille with a pizza selection that looks amazing. Full bar in the back. Would certainly come here again!

Sabrina W.

Yelp
Great vibe & staff was excellent. Our Server David was friendly, attentive, & knowledgeable. I had the chicken panini w/a salad & it was yummy. I think we found a new place to hangout when we are in the city.

Yelp
The slogan for Giovani's is pizza in the front and party in the back and it certainly lives up to the hype. Giovani's is part pizza shop, part full-service bar. The menu is very affordable with beer starting at only $2 if you are able to make it in during happy hour or $3 if not! Like most places, some of the food options are better than others so I will let you know what I recommend. My top choice would be the Chicken Parm sandwich with fries! At a cost of just less than $20, this sandwich is plenty to eat and the fries are delicious as well. If you are more in the mood for pizza, I would certainly recommend trying the buffalo chicken or the Sicilian. Overall, Giovani's is a good bang for your buck and is a good place to stop in to watch sports or even to kick back with family or friends!

Di S.

Yelp
3.5 stars Not the best pizza in Philly but solid, probably the best near center city. I appreciate the slice variety for vegetarians -- I got mushroom this time for $3.78.

Edon A.

Yelp
Giovanni's has to have the best fries in city. the fish tacos were amazing and the vodka margarita is awesome. staff is very friendly and the prices are great. Definitely check them out.

Yelp
Excellent restaurant and bar. The best pizza, very clean, with friendly and helpful staff. The pepperoni Stromboli is excellent and the sauce on the side is bursting with flavor, so fresh and delicious. The bar in the rear seems cozy nice people, good music and lots of seating. The food prep area, dining room and even the restrooms are spotless. Hand sanitizer available too!

Yelp
The last time I came to this specific location, It used to be a famous Dave's BBQ but now is a cool little bar and grill. It was a little confusion where you order food because the cooks were taking an orders as well as the person at the front counter but it seemed more efficient just ordering with the cooks. Seating was pretty tight because there were football games on but we found our way to a tabletop where food was brought over after a good 10 minutes. Somehow one of our items kept being lost in translation so one of our guests didn't eat until halfway through because of the annoying because it was just a slice of pizza. The staff were really nice though the pizza overall is pretty darn good. I could definitely see myself back here to catch a game with friends.

Yelp
The cheesesteak egg rolls were a great way to start off our evening. We sat at the bar with John and the service was top-notch. This place got busy pretty quickly and they continued to keep slinging out drinks. We did not order pizza but the pies coming out to other guests looked/smelled great. The Buffalo wings also looked very good too. I got the Buffalo chicken cheesesteak with onions and mushrooms. The chicken had good flavor and the Buffalo sauce did not overpower it. I added ranch over bleu cheese but that's just my preference. The old bay seasoned Cajun fries were crispy and well worth it. The Chicken Alfredo was solid and comes in a large portion(see picture below). The sauce paired very well with the garlic knots so make sure you ask for some extra on the side. When in center city of Philly, go see John and the Giovanni's crew!

Rose G.

Yelp
Bar food was reasonable. Walked up to counter and placed food order. Food delivered to table. Bar service was much better than food counter service. Was in town for Eagles game. Grabbed a bite to eat at Giovani's Bar & Grill before heading to stadium.

Yelp
I'd walked by this place a million times but on a cold rainy day when I had a strong garlic knot/pizza craving I called up Giovanni's and placed a delivery order! The person on the phone who took my order was awesome - it was such a quick and easy process. About 30 min later I greeted the delivery person. I was so intrigued by their vodka ravioli pizza but scared to get an entire pizza, so I ordered a slice of plain cheese and the vodka ravioli and created the vodka ravioli pizza myself. AMAZING! (I would definitely order the entire pizza next time). The ravioli and vodka sauce was amazing, and I also got a Greek salad (delicious!) and the garlic knots were abundant - delicious with marinara and the vodka sauce. I'm excited to order for them again! The portions were good and I definitely enjoyed everything the next day too.
google avatar

Felicia D.

Yelp
Pizza was pretty good! Perfect for a late night snack. We also got garlic knots, the bread is amazing! Service was good, when we went it's kind of like a food line style where you order your food and sit down. Very fun atmosphere with music, but not too loud so you can still talk to eachother

Yelp
Was visiting Philadelphia and wanted a cheesesteak late at night. Found this place, which was one of the only places open, and decided to give it a try. I ordered the pizza cheesesteak with extra mushrooms, which the bartender said was excellent (was torn between that and the buffalo chicken). The cheesesteak was huge, absolutely delicious, and came it at a reasonable price. Paired with a beer, and it made for a nice late night dinner.

Yelp
After walking all over the city, trying to find food after midnight on a Saturday, we wandered into Giovani's. They were out of food, but we were so exhausted after hiking for miles all through downtown, we sat down for cocktails. John took care of us well, plus he was friendly and helpful. The scene at Giovani's was late night great, reminding me of George Webb's in Milwaukee at 1:00 AM. We had a ball.
google avatar

Yelp
Just got into Philly last night. Was exhausted and hungry so we decided to try this spot out. They are open late, inside the back of the restaurant is a bar area with pretty good music playing! In the front of the place is pizza, subs, fries, etc... The smell was amazing! We ordered a slice of cheese and a slice of Buffalo chicken and split an order of fries. The pizza was delicious. Good ole fashioned thin crust, foldable slices... Tasted exactly like a NY slice. The fries were okay. Needed some salt or seasoning, luckily we had ketchup and ranch to dip it in. All-in-all, the food was good. I'd recommend it if you're in the area late night. It's definitely the type of food to hit the spot!!

Joe D.

Yelp
I've had Giovanni's at least 50 times and I've never been let down, pizza is always amazing, cheesesteaks, wings, chicken fingers, salads, haven't been served anything underpar

Mark W.

Yelp
Food was fine. Actually, pretty good! But like many businesses, they seem to love to not give you the add ons when you order online. Ordered pasta with added meatballs and surprise, surprise, no meatballs. This is becoming a theme recently. So yes, the food is fine, but the service and what you get is pretty hit or miss.
google avatar

Jose P.

Yelp
Great little bar, good service and the pizza is outstanding. One of the best pizzas we've ever had. We're visiting from Texas and loved this place.
google avatar

Desiree D.

Yelp
I was very shocked i enjoyed this place as much as i did. when you walk inside, it seems like its a chain or a pizza place in the mall, but stay with me here. you go up to the counter and order what food you want, then grab a seat. the back area is a bar with tables. i had the truffle parm fries which were good, but lacking in truffle oil. the eggplant pita sandwich is a must get. this was so delicious. my date loved his stromboli so much. they have a great deals on shots, drink specials, and a decent beer selection. overall, cheap prices and good service.
google avatar

Kristina T.

Yelp
$2.50 gets you a slice of New York-style cheese pizza. $3.25 to $3.50 gets you a pepperoni, sausage, or 1-topping slice. $4 gets you a specialty slice. $3.50 to $4.50 gets you a Sicilian-style slice. $18 to $22 gets you an 18-inch pizza. The pizza is cheap, filling, and very delicious. One slice satiates me. Two slices stuff me. There are plenty of topping options, and they make for some interesting flavor combinations. Aside from pizza, the menu has plenty of other food on there too like salads, hoagies, and pasta. I usually stick to pizza since it is ridiculously affordable and always reliable. I like meat so the meat lover pizza is my favorite. The meatball pizza is my second favorite. Chicken and broccoli is an interesting combination for pizza, but it works. Garlic knots and fries are good appetizers that go with pizza. I usually do take-out, but the bar is a great spot to hang out at. Happy hour is Monday through Friday from 5 to 7 P.M. and is $2 off of drinks. The food is ready quickly. There are plenty of TVs so that you can watch whatever game is on. Giovani's Bar & Grill is my favorite pizza place and sports bar in Center City. The only things cheaper than Giovani's pizza slices are fast food and maybe some of the food trucks. For a few bucks, you are getting a quality slice of pizza. There are plenty of options on the menu, but I am going to stick to the pizza because you cannot beat the value that you are getting.

Yelp
Won a pizza on their Instagram, but decided to pick up some wings and garlic knots as well to round out the night. Pick up was super easy, and it looks like they have a lot of space outside for outdoor dining. The pizza was so big and packed with meatball, pepperoni, jalapeno, and mushroom, but stayed together on a strong, deliciously seasoned crust. Wings were a great flavor- standard hot buffalo, and a good amount of meat on the bone. Fries were cheesy with the "worx"- pepperoni, 2 cheeses and homemade fries. Knots were huge and buttered with so much garlic. For the location, the prices are pretty insane, and the quality is even better. I think I'll be back very soon- the hike into Center City is worth it, and they even have free delivery currently if you live not too far away!

Rory A.

Yelp
Used to order a pepperoni pizza every Friday. Always good. Most recent trip, i was given an old pizza that they put some pepperoni on and heated up for a minute. Usually the pepperoni is completely cooked and crispy. This pepperoni was uncooked and falling off because it was added after the pizza was already cooked. Cheese pull is usually good. This pizza did not move. Usually a good flop. This was Stiff as a board. Lost a customer thats been going for slices for 15 years. I used to be a pizza maker in college. I know what an old pizza looks/tastes like. Never again
google avatar

Yelp
Dope spot. Bomb ass pizza and bread knots. Cool sports bar vibe in the back. Clean and staff is super nice. Got a meat lovers slice, 3 garlic knots and a large soda for $9.99. Can't beat it AND the pizza is fire.

Brooke M.

Yelp
This is my go to neighborhood bar. Service is wonderful and the owners are amazing. They know your name, remember your face, and make you feel right at home. Favorite food is the upside down pizza and tuna. Upbeat music and atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Tried Giovani's the other day for the first time and thought it was just ok. I tried the Buffalo chicken salad and it was super watery and the chicken was dry even with the Buffalo sauce. My friend got the pita sandwich and fries. He said it was pretty decent, but not the best he'd ever had. And then my husband got the wings with a side of fries. He said the wings were typical bar wings. I tried his fries and they were pretty bad! Super greasy and flaccid. Yuck. Overall, didn't have a terrible experience, and would give this place another shot in a couple of months.

Yelp
It's long overdue for me to give Giovanni's a review. I come here all the time for lunch. Always good for some pizza but also switch it up grabbing strombolis and pasta from time to time. It's an interesting set up for this type of place with the seating area but also having a bar in the back. Apparently there's hookah as well but I'm not sure how and when that's incorporated. Anyway, it's a very convenient place to grab a slice or anything else you could probably think of. I've always had solid quick service. It's just a very reliable place for me.

Yelp
My husband went for dinner with our three kids. They have Great food, good service; salads are great. Penne allá vodka was delicious and good portion. My kids had pizza and wings and they enjoyed it.

Yelp
I can't say enough good words about this spot! One of the most underrated cheesesteak spots in Philly, been coming here for years and it only gets better with each visit. Stack on that very very reasonable prices and a full service bar while you wait.
google avatar

Kuwana L.

Yelp
Walked into this spot on a Monday night in Philly, which is away from home for us. The ambiance was nice and the people very friendly. The food in which we ordered (10 piece wings half bbq/half plain) came out hog and fresh. They were ok in my opinion. The wings could have used a bit more seasoning if you ask me. Another item purchased was a chicken cheesesteak. That was amazing in my opinion. The prices at this establishment was fair. I would definitely check them out again. Thank you!
google avatar

Stephanie R.

Yelp
Tonight I ordered delivery from Giovanis. I always see great reviews of their pizza and wanted to give it a try. Placed an order of wings and Sicilian pie - was not disappointed! The Sicilian pizza was amazing - the dough is thick and like pizza (not bread). We had half plain - half pepperoni, and both were great. The sauce is the perfect tang for Sicilian. The wings were okay - we ordered hot buffalo wings, and they were good - just didn't live up to the same expectation as the pizza! Overall the food was on time, super quick delivery and great experience.

Yelp
Had such a blast watching the Super Bowl here, minus the outcome. Bartenders were amazing and super attentive, host and wait staff super helpful ... they didn't overcrowd the bar but still was full with a very fun vibe. Philly cheesesteak rolls and Stromboli were delicious - can't wait to come back when I'm in Philly again!

Yelp
One of the first places I fell in love with since moving to Philly. A great place to stop in for a few city wide's and some great slices. Since we are slowly opening up I decided to pay my good friends a visit the other afternoon. We stopped in and were taken care of by Ricky. Always a great time being served by him, he's always on it and very personable. For food, we went with our favorites. The BBQ Chicken Pizza Slice is my highest recommendation. It's made so well, specifically the BBQ sauce - not to sweet, not to spicy. Also, their Philly Cheese Steak Egg Rolls are another great one for the table. They come in large cut up pieces of a crispy and large egg roll; filled full with a great seasoned meat and delicious cheese! Last, can't go wrong with their Classic Cheese Slice, which recently got a 7.4 rating by BarStools.com Don't forget, Gio's also has a full bar inside. Great place for Game Day's; especially once things open back up. Love their $5 city wides and they usually do a shot of the day too for a similar price. Plus they have a great beer selection!

Michael Z.

Yelp
I've lived across the street from this place for years. It sucks. Order online? They'll prolly f up the order. Order wings? They're terrible. Small. Incorrect number of wings with the order. Over cooked, if that's such a things. Specialty pizza doesn't scatter the ingredient the way they should be. Had to argue about online orders tog ey the right thing. They Always f something up. They suck. Wish they were better but gave them six years to figure it out, and guess what? They Suuuuuuucccckkkkkkkkkkkk

A F.

Yelp
Ordered for delivery to hotel. Lots of options and open later than most other places around. Since we didn't go there, the only phone service we had with them was great; polite and swift. Foods ordered: - cheese burger with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, well done (delivery purposes) -- overall great for the price and being 11:30pm basically - cheesesteak -- not the best in Philly, not the worst tho. Everyone's taste is different - garlic knots -- good knot and bread, little lacking on the garlic and/or garlic sauce - fries -- think Wingstop fries. They're nearly identical. I don't like Wingstop fries, but a lot of people do, so if that's you, these are great. Overall great late night food to time with your lyft back to your hotel haha. Would definitely go to the actual restaurant if we are again looking for a good place late at night.

Yelp
My boyfriend, who is from Denmark, was stoked to try his first Philly cheese steak. I Yelped for exactly that, and Giovani's Bar and Grill was the top result. While the atmosphere was pretty cool-- sports games were airing on all of the TVs and the customers were rowdy-- given the price point, the food was sub par. Definitely decent, but nothing outstanding. :)

Kayla M.

Yelp
Great food. Looks like a pizza joint. Bar in the back is awesome. Nice staff. Would 100% go back.

Yelp
Bread lovers will love this pizza. They over a variety of slices and Stromboli's that are delicious. Love this place. Best in down town center city.

Yelp
I went to Giovanis today for lunch. Rachel my server gave me excellent service. I ordered the broccoli cheddar soup that was absolutely delicious. Definitely will be back again.
