"Giovanni’s Deli has been a local favorite for as long as most Capetonians can remember. Still a family-run affair three decades after it opened, this spot specializes in the kind of Italian food you’d expect to find, well, in Italy. Cape Town’s European delis are nearly as common as the local spaza, or convenience store, but Giovanni’s is in a league of its own. Stop by anytime to pick up pre-cooked pastas to go, or arrive before 9am to grab an espresso or cappuccino, plus a pastry before they’re gone—the deli fills up fast, and sells out just as quickly. I rented an AirBnb apartment above Giovanni’s and for a while I considered not to say anything about this gem of a place, just because I didn’t think that I would be able to get space again if I rave about how wonderful this 4 bed appartment was. It is like beign invited to tour rich uncles place, food downstairs and sleeping quarters upstairs. The food is great, the options are enormous and friendly staff makes you want to sit down and stay for coffee, oh wait yes you can. Most perfect place to spend a few bucks and a few conversations with the great people here.

Amazing choice of food and very nice coffee. Service depends on who serves you, I always had great service except this last time at the take-away food counter

Honestly one of the best spots in Cape Town. The buzzing deli and cafe is always a treat and you get what you pay for! Fresh ingredients, a true taste of Europe and the best sandwiches in town for those who love exotic meats and cheeses. Do yourself a flavour and check it out.

I’ve really missed my local Italian deli back home in Baltimore, and Giovanni’s in Greenpoint did not disappoint. You can head to the back to select your bread, then up to the counter to choose what you want on your sandwich. I sat at the counter to enjoy my Italian style sub on ciabatta and an espresso. Great spot and Sunday cycling stop.

Love the Amsterdammers, taste like Hertzoggies, but better! The rugby is also on. Somewhat expensive on bakery & cured meats by 30% compared to similar delicatessens. Pleasant atmosphere, friendly busy staff, great selections - a perfect well established local.

This is probably the closest I’ll get to eating at an Italian deli until I travel to Italy 😂😂 absolutely love the build your sandwich: choose your bread, walk up to the counter and select your cheeses and meats, pay and belissima the sandwich hits the spots followed by San Pellegrino Limonata 🤌🏾🤌🏾 Also they have amazing supper dishes for us young professionals such as lasagna, meatballs, ready made pasta dishes and plenty side dishes and salads. It just doesn’t stop there, you can actually buy yourself imported snacks too! Definitely treat on Main Road!

An institution .... if you want to experience "a little bit of Italy". Great coffee bar section, vibey, eclectic mix of patrons. Service at the coffee bar is not great, you have to be a little "forward" or you will never get your order in. Deli counter is too busy, but a good selection of ready-made Italian cuisine. Frustrating is to stand and wait. Lots of imported Italian products on sale. Parking outside is a problem.
