The 22 Best Restaurants In Cape Town 2024

"Giovanni’s Deli has been a local favorite for as long as most Capetonians can remember. Still a family-run affair three decades after it opened, this spot specializes in the kind of Italian food you’d expect to find, well, in Italy. Cape Town’s European delis are nearly as common as the local spaza, or convenience store, but Giovanni’s is in a league of its own. Stop by anytime to pick up pre-cooked pastas to go, or arrive before 9am to grab an espresso or cappuccino, plus a pastry before they’re gone—the deli fills up fast, and sells out just as quickly. Just walking around Giovanni's is a culinary adventure! If you're not hungry when you walk in, you will be soon enough. Everywhere you look, there are shelves and shelves of food. There is a large variety of baked goods and ready-cooked food. The dining area was chockablock, and people were waiting for a table. We bought fresh bagels and butternut soup to take away. Luckily, we bought extra bagels because we ate some in the car on the way home - delicious. And it was honestly the yummiest butternut soup I've ever bought. I chose some nougat and Turkish Delight while I was browsing, but put them back because they were overpriced by comparison.

Always a great experience at this local authentic Italian deli and coffee bar. Amazing food, coffee and goodies on the shelves. Expect to hear some Italian at the bar with locals popping in for an espresso and a chat. Ciao till next time...

I have been to this place on multiple occasions and it never dissapoints. Friendly staff, great cappuccino's and even better food. From hams to cheeses, from vegan salads to spices. Think of it and it will be here. I definitely recommend building your own bagel... rocket, sundried tomato, cheese and prosciutto... my word! What an awesome combination on a fresh bagel. Will always return, even if it gets busy - the wait is worth it!

Something different compared to what we as South Africans are used to. We absolutely loved it. Croissants and coffee were delicious.

Giovanni's is one of the best places in Cape Town, which is a delightful spot for anyone craving authentic Italian flavors. The deli offers a wide range of imported Italian goods, including cheeses, cold cuts, and freshly made foods and juice. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to help you find the perfect ingredients for your Italian culinary adventures. Whether you're looking for a quick sandwich or gourmet ingredients for a special recipe. You can do a take away or sit in and dine. It can get quite busy here and very crowded but it is worth it. Their coffee is also out of this world.

The food was amazing, the service was attentive and the barista who seemed to be an owner as well came to check on multiple tables occasionally to see if we had everything that we needed and you could tell that he genuinely cared. I would highly recommend this place

When ever I need a pick me up, the sandwiches at Giovanni’s is where I head! Best sandwiches in town with a huge variety of meats and cheeses from all over the world. Don’t miss out if you’re ever near by. Giovanni’s will never disappoint!

So, we visited Giovannis for the first time in 2016. We are from Pretoria, but we visit Cape Town quite often. We make a point to at least pay Giovanni's a visit, EVERY SINGLE DAY for breakfast or lunch. Our day isn't complete without their delicious coffee and a freshly made sandwich or croissant. Thank you for sharing your beautiful culture and cuisine with us. It is always a pleasure and a nice atmosphere. We will be back soon!
