Girdwood Brewing Company, located just five minutes off the Seward Highway and down the road from the base of the Alyeska Ski Resort, is a must-visit for anyone traveling through the area. The brewery boasts a ski lodge atmosphere with a great mountain view, offering a relaxing and scenic spot to enjoy some great beer.
Our favorite from their lineup was the Funkberry Pie, a complex and delightful beer crafted with strawberries, raspberries, boysenberries, lactose, and conditioned on vanilla beans and graham crackers. This unique combination was rich and fruity, not only making it a standout on our flight - but a standout beer of the 23 breweries we visited in Alaska.
The large taproom provides ample space for large groups, while the outside beer garden, complete with fire pits, offers a stunning view of Mount Alyeska. I think the vibe here is laid-back and welcoming. Andrew said the vibe was "happy ski bums enjoying great beer." I don't think we've ever used that phrase to describe a brewery, but it should translate well enough.
With rotating food trucks adding to the experience, Girdwood Brewing Company is definitely worth the stop if you're driving from Anchorage to Seward or Homer. It’s the perfect place to unwind and soak in the spirit of Alaska.
