"When you’re looking to drink in Gowanus, Lavender Lake is our favorite outdoor option for a big group. But if you want something a little less crowded in the neighborhood, try Givers and Takers anytime from Thursday to Sunday after 4pm. It’s just a long, plain-looking space with a bar and some small tables, and there’s a little porch in back with three big round tables. It’s like the tiny backyard that you don’t have, and it’s perfect for when you want to drink a glass of wine and talk about the weather, what you’ve been reading, or just birds in general." - Hannah Albertine

"A neighborhood bar with a quiet back patio is a pretty ideal spot for an early-in-the-game date, and that’s exactly what Givers and Takers is. This place is just a nice, charming pub in Gowanus, and out back you can sit at a round table near a picket fence while you discuss dog breeds and TV shows with someone you only just met." - Bryan Kim, Katherine Lewin, Hillary Reinsberg

"There are a lot of big outdoor bars around Gowanus, and they all tend to get incredibly busy whenever it’s sunny out and humidity levels are bearable. So if you’re avoiding crowds, try a smaller one, like Givers and Takers. It also happens to be a great place to wait for a table at Claro (which is next door)." - Bryan Kim, Matt Tervooren

Nice cozy bar with round booths, an outdoor space, and multiple restrooms. The beer list is amazing. The wine list looks intriguing as well, someone obviously cares about the menu. The bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable. I can't wait to go back.

We celebrated a milestone birthday here (mostly in the charming backyard until the rain came down!) and I can't say enough great things about this bar. The cocktails are delicious, the beer selection is outstanding, and the vibes are excellent. This is the ideal neighborhood bar.

Our bartender was so nice and friendly! The drinks were good, and the music and lighting were just the perfect vibe. I came with my best friend and boyfriend on a Monday night and we had fun. No complaints ❤️

Absolutely fantastic bar! I threw my fiancé a surprise 30th birthday party here and had the best experience. The owners (the incredibly kind Ashley and Anthony) and the bartender Monica were so attentive and accommodating. The service was top notch. You can't beat the beer list and I had one of the best spicy margarita's I've had in a while. Truly something for everyone. In terms of ambiance and overall vibe, you really can't ask for anything better. The rustic yet modern interior with exposed brick was intimate while still feeling spacious and sun-drenched. The outdoor patio was a perfect oasis in the middle of the city - I felt like I was in Europe! Lastly, my favorite part was the fresh flowers lovingly placed throughout the bar. After a dark year, I was looking for a bar with a fun vibe and atmosphere to gather with a few loved ones to celebrate a life milestone. I am so happy I chose Givers and Takers because they made the day a memory we will relieve forever.

Came in at about 12am and they were supposed to close at 4am. Asked for multiple drinks on the menu & was told they weren't available. We then asked for vodka & cranberry juice & the owner raised his voice so the whole bar can hear him & told us we were giving him bad attitude & he was closing up shop, no way to treat customers. He could have easily told us he only gives plain shots & beers.... Poor guy looked was half asleep & miserable. No idea why this place is in business. Best of luck!

Visited in July with some friends. Thought it was alright. The good: * Cool vibe. When I was there, there was some folks playing a board game in the back. I appreciated that. * Nice outdoor space. * Friendly staff. * Tasty margarita variant (strawberry and jalapeno). * Good selection of spirits. The bad: * The mixed drinks were wildly inconsistent. My girlfriend had three of the margaritas and each was differently balanced, though thankfully all were pleasant. * Somehow I ended up with an undrinkable Aperol Spritz (an impressive achievement) as well as a decent French 75 (though I had ordered a Paper Plane). Other observations: * I suspect the bartender was new. I seem to recall her mentioning that to someone else in our party. The place was fairly crowded and she seemed to be struggling. After about an hour another bartender who seemed more seasoned showed up to lend a hand. Since they were slammed and seemingly short-staffed, I don't want to review too unfairly. Overall I would probably visit again if a friend wanted to go to this particular bar, but I would stick to drinking straight spirits or beer.

G&T is one of our favourite bar in the area. Great draft beer selection (with always a great choice of sour beers and IPA's) with banging tunes. Anthony and Ashley made this place feel so comfy and intimate, but also very safe. They are both so much fun and always welcome us and our friends with the warmest smile behind their mask!

Cool bars are made by the people who hang out there. This place has a chance to be a cool bar given the layout but it wont be anytime soon given who hangs out there. It's a spot for insecure tool tech and finance bros talking about their startups and $500k plus salaries. And then talking about "who" they know. Disgusting. The place should immediately take everything on their menu and double the charge and capitalize on this piggish behavior.
