I have not had to go to the Grocery store in a while for people. This is the best thing for people in need of food. Thanks always. 👍🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼😍

Wonderful organization. You get more than you give when you volunteer or donate here. The staff and fellow volunteers are always amazing. They do amazing work! There are many ways to give your time. Highly recommend!!

Great place to spend a few hours giving back to the community. Register on-line and sign-up for one of the short shifts on one of the food banks doing warehouse work. Get ready to share a good experience with good people.

This the oldest organization of its kind in the United States. They deliver food to hungry people. The building at Besufait is historical in that it used to house an automobile manufacturer. The building dates to the early twentieth century and heavy timbers and beautiful floors are throughout. They operate a world class radio dispatched distribution network. Original paintings by founder Gene Gonyo are displayed in the stairwell.

Our school volunteers here every year. All classes from up to 8th grade go to volunteer their time. The younger kids pack Friday backpack bags for children to take home to have food for the weekend. Our 2nd grade packed 900 of them in an hour this past week. The older children usually sort big boxes of canned goods to be put into those bags. Anyone can volunteer at Gleaners. They have a website where you can sign up for your school or individually. They also have programs to help raise money for Gleaners including going there in painting ceramic bowls to be sold to raise money for Gleaners. The children have a great time and have a great feeling when they leave because they know they are volunteering and helping other children out.

Google
As part of a volunteer event, I had the opportunity to work in the wearhouse. They rely on 50,000 plus volunteers to help package, box or prepare the food for distribution. They have many different programs to help the hungry and are constantly think of new ways to fulfill that need. There were about 80 to 100 people that came the morning I was there. If you have time, I would recommend taking the time. The parking lot has security and is close to the entrance.

Yelp
Major rounds of applause and an avalanche of 5 star salutes to the folks at Gleaners for helping keep people fed during this unprecedented time. They've expanded their food distribution services including 35 new drive up mobile distribution centers, serving more than 10,500 people. It's a great resource for kids who are no longer getting regular meals at school, families that have a loss of income, seniors and more. Last year I took a tour of their main facility and was really impressed by the amount of work they do and resources they offer. In more....normal....times, they offer amazing programs like cooking and nutrition classes, mobile pantries that travel to senior living centers so they can easily "shop", and more. They're truly an incredible organization working to help confront hunger in Metro-Detroit. Want to help? They're taking donations and volunteers to help staff these distribution centers. You can find out more information on these opportunities at their website.

Yelp
Gleaners does great work in the Detroit area. If you're looking for a place to volunteer your time and/or money, please consider Gleaners as that place. I know that we have, both in money when we have it, and in working to help organize when we don't.

Yelp
Gleaners Community Food Bank has great community support. The main focus is the feed hungry people. They work closely with member agencies, the Feeding America network and program partners to provide millions of pounds of donated and purchased food to people in need. Gleaners continues to be committed to distributing nutritional, high quality food. Education and advocacy also are addressed in a major way. The concept is to reduce reliance on the emergency food system. Gleaners has always used and continues to use best practices and cost effective systems and procedures to achieve the highest possible return on human and financial resources. Gleaners staff, management, volunteers and clients all work together to fulfill its role with a sense of compassion and urgency while nourishing, sustaining and advancing hope in our community.

Yelp
What a great organization to help! A group of 14 went on a recent Saturday and helped fill orders for various customers, primarily other non-profit groups. There were about 50 volunteers in total. We used a pallet jack and roamed between aisles as we loaded up our empty pallet. Another group of volunteers verified the order and wrapped the order for delivery. Yet a 3rd group of volunteers helped bag perishables like tomatoes and cucumbers. The Gleaners staff was very helpful with answering questions and provided an insight to how/why Gleaners exists. Call them. Volunteer (even during the week). Make a difference.

Yelp
This is going to be a strange review to say the least, but here goes... I traveled through Downtown Detroit today on my bike, during the hottest part of the day (95-ish degrees) A minivan pulls over and a gentleman asks me "Sir, are you hungry?"... I'll admit it I was temporarily pissed. But I saw the logo on their door. I apologized for being a dick, thanked them. Three blocks up the street they distributed some food and water to a trio of very appreciative kids. I choked up to the point of having to stop pedaling and pull it together. I came home and made a donation...

Yelp
Gleaners Food Bank is probably one of Metro Detroit's most well known non-profits. Located on Beaufait just off of Mt. Elliot and Kercheval, Gleaners has been providing food for locals for a handful of years. This local gem secures, stores and delivers food to other non-profits in need ensuring that disadvantaged Metro Detroit families don't go hungry. They are always looking for donations of food goods and people who can give a little time and happiness to others in need. Gleaners does a plentiful amount of fundraising, but they still need money, volunteers and other items to ensure that they continue to positively influence the lives of Metro Detroiters. For more information check out their website.

Yelp
I reached out for help after being in a major car accident with my husband who is a disabled vet, we have 3 kids, and I was told to contact other agencies. Very very poor service.

Yelp
Discovered Gleaners last week during a company wide volunteer day. We had a lot of fun helping pack boxes of food to be sent to families in need. The place seems well run and organized. I was impressed at the set up and it seems like they are reaching a lot of families in the community. The woman in charge of volunteers said they always need people in the summer and individuals can just walk in on Saturdays. I think it's worth checking out and would like to go back from time to time.
