"The vibe: Refurbed roadside motel and cabins. Top amenities: Private courtyards, fire pits with evening s’mores, free Wi-Fi, stacks of board games. Best for: Design savvy travelers in Cotopaxi jackets. What's nearby: A trail through the property’s redwood grove and two swimming holes along the Big Sur River. This reimagined, mid-century motor lodge stands out with stylish interiors that feel at home in the redwoods. Think Pendlton wool blankets, Peroba wood, and a Buddha board in lieu of a TV. The property stretches across Highway 1 where you’ll find cabins set amidst the redwoods and along the Big Sur River. Book one with a private courtyard set with an outdoor clawfoot tub. At the onsite Big Sur Roadhouse, find breakfast and lunch dishes such as French toast and burgers."

"Big Sur is one of the best glamping spots in California. But if sleeping in a tent doesn't sound all that appealing, a cozy cabin under towering redwoods might be the perfect place for you to stay. Even though the picture-perfect abodes at Glen Oaks come equipped with wood burning stoves and truly cabinesque design features like antler chandeliers, the pair of clawfoot soaking tubs that await in the private courtyard make it almost impossible to spend much of the stay inside." - Travel + Leisure Editors

"Glen Oaks Big Sur, where you can have a mid-century modern room for night two of your road trip. The old school motor lodge has undergone a funky makeover—think walk-in showers paved with river-rock tiles and an abundance of succulents on almost every surface—but the best rooms are the standalone cabins and cottages."

I had a few extra days available in between a family trip & decided to head to Big Sur and stay at Glen Oaks. What a great choice. ||It was easy to find and the staff communicated the directions and any necessary road conditions well ahead of time. ||The cabin I had was perfection, amongst the most beautiful trees. The bed was comfortable, the shower was great-with heated floors! The wine and smores were a great touch. The short trail to get coffee & donuts was magical. ||I especially loved the little trails everywhere & the chairs in the water. I’m already dreaming of coming back & staying longer!

For us we booked the little cabins in the red wood. It’s very discrete and hard to find without a verbal explanation of how to get there. We came late and almost missed office hour. To be honest without the front desk telling us how to find our cabin, we would probably not find it at all. Luckily, we arrived before 9 pm, and got directions from the front desk with a map. It was an amazing spot to stay! Very quiet, there’s a stream near by with chairs to sit, and complimentary fire woods, fire starter, matches, hot chocolate, marshmallows, utensils… etc. The most surprising of it all is that the bathroom floor is heated. In addition, our neighbors followed the quiet hour rules, and we had very good sleeps. Clean cabin, clean sheets, honestly just how I imagined a tiny cabin stay would be with nicer amenities. The best part of it is the location is close to many of the state parks in the area! McWay falls is 22 mins away, Carmel by the sea is 40 mins as reference.

We stayed in the motor lodge in room 4 which is a King with inside/outside gas fireplace. There were so many small touches thought of that led to a great stay. The travel cups to get coffee from the check in, free donuts across the street before a hike, and the campfire + smores are all great touches. Yoga mats for some stretching pre/post hike were also nice. The restaurant across the street also had great food and very quick, attentive service. The property is sprawling and it was nice to take a little hike and dip into the river.

A Beautiful stay in a beautiful place. Lovely accommodations. Great design. Clean and very comfortable. Highly recommended!|Love the donuts too. |The surrounding redwoods are magical. We stayed in the gate house Enjoyed making the fire and enjoying s’mores

Google
Booked Archies and The Cottage. Both are cozy and cute. Enjoyed the full kitchen in The Cottage. Loved having appetizers and wine on the side deck in the afternoon before attending our son's wedding further south Highway 1. You can hear the highway noise from the deck, but inside The Cottage is quiet.

Google
I had my micro wedding here in the fairy circle! It was pure magic! The bridge house and bunk house were absolutely beautiful. Didn't need wedding decor because the redwoods and ferns were perfect. Definitely felt sacred.

Google
Beautiful serene aesthetic. Beautiful warm tones with a mid-century aesthetic, everything in the room was thoughtfully laid out with lots of nice extras in the room. The only thing I would say is if you want absolute peace and quiet do not request a room that’s close to the PCH one highway because you will hear traffic noise during the night. So many nice perks in the room, including a mini bottle of red wine, robes, games, Noyes machine, yoga mat, and very nice shower with lovely soaps.

I absolutely love filming weddings at Glen Oaks in Big Sur! The stunning redwood cabins and the tranquil Big Sur River create a breathtaking setting for any event. The Big Sur Roadhouse is a great spot for receptions, especially the back terrace surrounded by twinkling lights and redwoods—it’s so magical. The Fairy Circle is another incredible spot for ceremonies, nestled in a grove of ancient redwoods, offering such a unique and intimate atmosphere. Whether you’re planning a small elopement or a larger gathering, Glen Oaks has the perfect mix of rustic charm and modern comfort, and it’s always a pleasure to capture couples' special moments here.

Yelp
I went on my birthday. It was a pleasure of staying at a truly delightful hotel with a seamlessly blend of modern luxury and an enchanting essence of nature. The atmosphere was serene, providing a perfect backdrop for relaxation. Glen Oaks offers a charming retreat. The short private hiIke is highly recommend, for anyone seeking a harmonious mini getaway. Staff were all so kind.

Yelp
Thank you Glen Oaks Big Sur. Every time I have stayed here the experience is better and better. We have stayed in the Bunkhouse two times and it is fabulous. The outdoor space as well as the cozy inside is the perfect getaway. Family stayed in containers and the big cabin and it was such a treat to enjoy your property. Thank you for the attention to details.

Yelp
Fantastic stay at the perfect location. I'm not sure why more people aren't leaving reviews for Glen Oaks, but it's probably because they want to keep it to themselves. Which is fair, because this place is magical. I stayed in the King Room, and really the only thing that I could complain about is the noise from the busy road near the room (and the price). Otherwise, everything about staying at Glen Oaks is thoughtful, fun, peaceful, convenient. It's a luxurious stay considering that you're in the forest. It's pricey, which was my primary hesitation in booking. Guests have several amenities, including a half bottle of local wine, s'mores materials for the community fire pit, coffee and tea, a donut and coffee at the on-site Roadhouse restaurant, decadent soaps and bathroom amenities, Ghirardelli hot chocolate, and more. But the best part is the serenity and access to the private(!) hiking trial to the creek and to the mystical redwoods. Don't underestimate the value of having these trees all to yourself. The staff was ultra kind and helpful in suggesting hikes and restaurants to get the most out of my brief stay. Next time I'd love to stay in a cabin, which are tucked back off the road in their own slice of Redwood paradise. Ultra quiet, private, and relaxing. However, the King room was quite a bit nicer than I expected and the bed was absolutely divine. I can't wait to be back here.

Yelp
It was one of the most breathtaking experiences of my life. Wow. Big Sur. You are so beautiful. If you are reading this, you are more than likely looking to visit this magical place, and yes, there is something so incredibly magical about this place. My boyfriend booked us a stay here; we stayed in the "Gate House." Let's begin. Arrival/check-in: It wasn't difficult to find, but reception is spotty, so be cautious of that. We walked in, and we were immediately greeted and checked in. The clerk was nice and asked the standard questions regarding our stay to give us her best recommendation of their grounds and surrounding area. She knew her stuff well. Since our trip was unexpectedly planned, making a reservation at a nearby restaurant was impossible on a Saturday. She suggested "Deetjen's." She described it as a tucked away sorta of dingy but great place. She said it was a local favorite and we wouldn't be disappointed. I'll be honest; I wasn't sold on the recommendation, but because reception was terrible and we couldn't book anywhere else, we took the chance. See Deetjens for their review (9/10 Go there. Chefs kiss hands down **not much of a Coast view**) ・・・ Getting to the "Gate House" was 100% tricky, haha. We had to go up the road, pass the bridge, find the balloon, and make a right into the driveway. You can't miss it." this is how it was explained to us. LOL We found it. Finally, haha! That in itself was an adventure, and it was everything once we found it. It was tucked away, surrounded by the most incredible trees and streams. It was magical, honestly, what a surprise! The cabin: Fully stocked, retro chic. With marshmallows and chocolate waiting for us to make smoors in our private fire pit. The room was very comfy. I would highly recommend this place and the grounds to make memories. Needless to say, this trip was a memorable adventure in every respect. See pics

Yelp
We stayed in one of the Little Sur Cabins in March 2024. I'll give the pros and cons below, but to summarize, it was a lovely stay, and might be just what you're looking for, but I came away feeling it wasn't worth the high price tag. The real star of the show is the nearby nature. If you can score a place for less, and spend your days out and about in the stunning public natural areas, you'll probably be just as happy, but depends on your priorities of course. First the positives: - The setting amongst the redwoods is lovely and serene, and the sound of the river's running water added to the lovely feel - the staff prepared private fire pit each night was really convenient, and there is a ton of extra firewood for free if you want to have a long fire - the heated bathroom floors were a nice touch - basics like cabin heat, hot water, appliance function were all fine - the only thing we needed help with was starting the fire (likely due to recent rains wetting the logs) and when we called the front desk the friendly staff were responsive and came to help within a few minutes - wifi worked well enough. There is guest and "vip" networks. Both would drop, and by city standards neither was great, but having wifi at all was a big plus for us as we used our phones to find and plan nearby adventures. - this place is just off the pch (far enough that you don't hear road noise) and while not on the ocean, it is only a couple of minutes from nearby amazing landscapes and ocean areas ...and the negatives: - while a kitchenette is advertised as part of the cabin, there is absolutely no kitchenette. There is only a microwave and a wine cooler (and basic utensils like fork, spoon and butter knife). Not even a proper mini fridge. When I asked them about it, they essentially responded "yes that is our kitchenette". No hot plate or way to cook anything. No functioning fridge. That is not a kitchenette. Even hotels that don't advertise a kitchenette provide proper a mini fridge. We struggled to put food away and abandoned plans to cook ourselves breakfast. - the cabin is tiny. Not that big a deal to us, but be aware it is very small - one small room and a small bathroom. - the little sur cabins all share a wall with another little sur cabin. In our case, our neighbors were quiet, but in the middle of an otherwise very quiet area, if you have noisy neighbors it will definitely stand out. Beware if you're a light sleeper, if you want to be sure it's quiet, you may want to book one of the more isolated (and extremely expensive) accommodations. - they charge you for the first night when you book, so be sure you can make it. They won't refund you that money if you cancel even far in advance

Yelp
Had a nice stay. The room got very warm though. There should be more signs letting people know where to go and how to drive to the cabins. No signs anywhere. The staff was very unfriendly. For the very expensive stay almost $1,500 for one night they should have been thrilled to have us and they seemed bothered. The Roadhouse restaurant man was very snarky and seemed bothered. I complimented him and his establishment and he said yup no conversation skills at all. The food wasn't very good either. I asked if he had chocolate donuts and he said what you see is what you get. The checkout experience with the lady she wasn't friendly at all. Wouldn't go back sadly.

Yelp
Gorgeous and well-managed. 5/5. If you want something that's a couple ticks up on the special meter, this is your spot. I would definitely recommend getting one of their cabins on the west side of hwy. This way, the river is part of your experience. We stayed in the Sky View cabin and loved it. That one has an outdoor tub and heated bathroom floors (I believe most of their cabins have the heated bathroom floors- huge treat). The perks to staying here over some other places are: -Immersion into nature (in the trees/ on the river) -Special touches -Tasteful design -Unique -Well- managed/ Dialed -Privacy If you aren't as concerned about those items, I can understand why you'd chose another place. But if you want something that is special, this is it. We'll be back.

Cristy P.

Yelp
Just so good. We blissed out there. Lovely amenities. Hard to decide between just staying in the room vs going to the beach!

Sarah S.

Yelp
The only thing keeping this place from being five stars is the cranky blonde woman at reception when I checked in last night. She was incredibly rude. I don't know why the owners don't do something about her attitude. Anyhow, the room is very cute and very well stocked. There were bottles of wine, mugs to keep your coffee hot, coffee and tea, creamers, and a filtered water pitcher. There were robes and yoga mats. I enjoyed sitting by the fire pit and making s'mores and chatting with folks. The shower is very good, and the bathroom is nice. I found the bed to be uncomfortable, however. Also, the room got very warm, because it was an unusually warm day. The problem is that the only way to cool it off is to leave the windows open at night, and I didn't feel safe doing that. Something strange is that there is a lack of charging outlets... Mine was hidden inside the small nightstand, and I had to crawl on the floor to find it. The grounds are very pretty, and the lodge is across the street from a good breakfast restaurant. I think this is about as good as it gets in Big Sur for this price point. It's a cute romantic place and a peaceful place to stay.

John K.

Yelp
Rude staff Rude management. The staff here is enough to ruin your experience and ruin your stay. Don't be duped by the reasonable prices and location . This place is one of the worst run establishments in Monterey county. Won't be back. Business owner should really overhaul this front of house staff.

Dana S.

Yelp
Service - 5/5 Cleanliness -5/5 Location - 5/5 I had a WONDERFUL experience at Glen Oaks. Our stay was off to a great start when Leona, the front desk receptionist, drew out a map of everything within the area--including an AV charging station for our car, landmarks, restaurants and trails. We stayed in the Adobe Motor Lodge King Double Sided Fireplace unit. I loved the private patio! Other nice touches were the heated floors and robes. The hotel also offers complimentary wine and s'more kits. We made friends with other visitors after going to the campfire a couple of times to make s'mores. Overall we had a wonderful stay and enjoyed how close it was to restaurants and attractions!

Zoe L.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at Glen Oaks in the Gate House room for my birthday. The room was was more spacious than I was expecting. It was also very well stocked with s'mores supplies, half bottle of complimentary wine, coffee and oatmeal as well. The bed was really comfortable as well. The only thing was the turn off for the cabins across the highway from the lonny building is super hard to see as there's no sign. The front desk gave us a map showing us where to turn but at night it was so hard to see we drove past the turn and had to backtrack. Still overall I look forward to staying at Glen Oak again!

Yelp
After 5 months of staying home quarantined I finally decided we should do a trip somewhere outdoorsy for my bday weekend. We were a little nervous to travel but figured we would be driving in from southern CA and will be pretty much doing only outdoor activities. I was very comforted by the fact that Glen Oaks said they would not be cleaning our room till after checkout... perfect that was exactly what I was comfortable with. So why only 2 stars?? After our first night we came back to our room to find a voicemail from the front desk saying that they needed to get into our room that day to change our fire alarm or else it will go off in the middle of the night and wake us up. Ugh!!! I was not comfortable letting anyone in our room due to covid concerns but also need my sleep and didn't not want to deal with it going off non stop at 4am before a long 7 hour drive home. I don't understand why this couldn't have been done before we checkin. Then after all that when we get back all they did was remove the fire alarm for ceiling (see picture). Doesn't sound too safe to me. To me this was unacceptable, especially after paying $800 for 2 nights in their smallest motor lodge room right next to the office. I would have written a much better review if it wasn't for this experience. We really did love the property, donuts by the creek in the morning, the complimentary s'mores kit etc. but after spending that much for this experience being our first time there I can't say we would be back.

Alicia K.

Yelp
We absolutely loved our stay at Glen Oaks. It was immaculately clean and the property was absolutely stunning with the redwoods and the river running through. The Roadhouse was designed so cute and the complimentary donuts were yummy. We will totally be back here. Oh, don't forget to do s'mores by the fire.

Andrea G.

Yelp
Best family Glamping spot during COVID-19. Wonderful hiking so close by. We have wonderful dining choices close by too. At the end of the day we use the fire pit at Glen Oaks to roast marshmallows. Kids are loving it!

Daniella P.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here for a few nights in June 2021. We eloped on the property and enjoyed a few days spent in almost complete solitude. We stayed in the Sycamore Cabin (a standalone cabin) and it was absolute magic. First we noticed the lovely outdoor area with two lounge chairs and a fully stocked fire pit (fire starter and fire wood ready to go). As soon as we opened the front door we were greeted with a complimentary champagne bottle on ice and a nice note from the Glen Oaks staff. The cabin itself was very comfortable, equipped with a kitchenette, full bathroom amenities, WiFi, one of the most comfortable beds we've rested on, and a faux fireplace in the living room. We were also surprised and DELIGHTED to find a beautiful outdoor bathtub (fit for 2) with privacy fencing steps away from the bedroom's outdoor patio. The surrounding grounds were fun to explore and incredibly peaceful. Throughout our stay we rarely saw or heard other people and truly enjoyed the feeling of solitude and serenity in the woods. The cabin was a short walk to multiple restaurants or a short drive to a few more options. We couldn't have asked for a nicer location to celebrate our marriage and we look forward to many more trips to reconnect with each other and with nature.

Sarah W.

Yelp
If you're looking for a romantic getaway, or special vacation amongst the redwoods, Glen Oaks is a wonderful choice. Perfectly manicured and beautifully designed cabins tucked away in the forest with the Big Sur River flowing nearby. Our friends a family stayed here for a week this past August as we celebrated our small and intimate wedding in Big Sur. The accommodations were beautiful and our guests left feeling like they actually relaxed. My husband and I stayed in the Bridge House, which was by far the most beautiful lodging I've ever experienced. We look forward to spending future anniversaries at this stunning location. Thank you, Glen Oaks! - Sarah & Will

Emily L.

Yelp
Had a wonderful stay at Glen Oaks! I booked Adobe Motor Lodge Queen. I loved the use of natural materials for the room, the coziness of the room (the fireplace), the patio seating, and most of all, the shower and shower amenities. There were a few inconveniences such as no cellular signal and no TV (Big Sur to unplug, right?). Another downside is that the restaurant, Big Sur Roadhouse, closes after lunch (2:30ish) and there are no other food options on site. Things to note: - Complimentary coffee and donut for breakfast - Bring snacks and cup of noodles/instant ramen (there's a water boiler in the room) - Complimentary Steeped coffee and tea in room - Explore the grounds! Overall, I enjoyed my stay and considered it a five star experience without the five star price.

Patricia M.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here during our vacation and it was the best decision we made! We stayed at the Gate House for 4 nights and we absolutely loved it. The Gate House is located near the entrance gate so you can hear some road noise during the day between 3pm - 530pm, but it quiets down afterwards. The nature trail is close by and the complimentary firewood is only a few steps away. You're given your own parking space which is so helpful when loading/unloading luggage. The staff were all super helpful and our firepit was refreshed/cleaned out every single day. However, because of COVID they didn't have daily housekeeping available to take the trash out of the room. But, we didn't mind doing that ourselves since they provided extra trash bags and the can wasn't too far away. Overall, we will definitely be back to stay here!

Jenna V.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here for our three year anniversary. The cabin we got was very tidy, cute, and the grounds were very well taken care of. This is a very nice little get away spot, although you'll except to pay a pretty penny for it. The experience was over all nice and the heated floors, and preset fire pit was a nice addition.

Linda M.

Yelp
Amazing cabin right in the middle of the redwoods. You get the full experience of what Big Sur is all about! Close to restaurants and convenience store. This cabin had everything we needed to on our stay.

Kaley C.

Yelp
Truly incredible! We had such an amazing time here. The property was incredible with its own private trail in the redwoods and around the river. The room was great. I can't wait to come back again, thank you!

Yesenia D.

Yelp
My fiancé and I randomly found this gem and decided we would book a night for our anniversary. It was the best decision we made! I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for the perfect getaway. Our cabin was the perfect size for us. We had our own fire pit. I love how they provided a bottle for our anniversary and s'mores! So sweet! I loved everything about this place. The only thing is we had like no service but wifi is provided. We would totally visit again! :)

Yun C.

Yelp
The cabins are very cozy and location is beautiful and quiet! Great place to relax away for the weekend. I was able to stay at the Big Sur cabin which IMO is the best cabin! Two clawfoot tubs in the outdoors surrounded by redwood trees was the highlight of this cabin! Another unexpected luxury was the heated bathroom floors. I would randomly walk into the bathroom just to warm my feet! The living room of the cabin comes with a automatic fireplace that turns on when the temperature drops below your set temperature. The beds are decent but not the best. The cabin rental comes with two yoga mats, some random board games, a half bottle of red wine and a s'mores kit! There are two fire pits in the Big Sur cabin- one outside next to the front door and one in the back yard where the tubs are. So where are the other two stars? For the price of this cabin, I would expect good service to come with it but our check in experience was nothing but frustrating. Be careful checking in late after sunset because the area is pitch dark. The check in area is easy to spot because there is a lighted sign but the cabins entrance has no lights and no street signs. After checking in, we were told to drive down a short way and make a right. Well it was so dark, we kept missing the entrance. We tried to call the check in guy and he was nothing but rude and placed us on hold and eventually let the phone hang up on us without any effort to call us back. We drove back and he was super rude again and had no patience to tell us where to go. It was almost his time to go home and he would gladly leave without trying to reach us to make sure we found our way. Great way to make an impression Glen oaks! Well for anyone checking in late after dark, the entrance to the cabin is right at the end of the small bridge 10 seconds drive after leaving the check in lodge. You have to make a sharp right to get to the gate. Make sure to drive very slow to spot the entrance. Cabins were lovely, people at glen oaks...not so much.

Yelp
Cabin dreams in Big Sur, CA Big Sur is truly one of the most beautiful places in the world. A nature lovers dream come true. One of my bucket list goals was to wake up in the forest among the magical Redwoods. In style... Glen Oaks a boutique hotel offers a few options as far as what type of experience you're looking for. There's a lodge from the 50's that's been renovated that's super cool and there are cabins & houses across the street behind a private gate. I booked a lodge room as I typically do not spend any time in my room other than to sleep and bathe but when we arrived we were upgraded to a cabin, specifically the Little Red House. I can't thank the nice lady enough who checked us in and surprised us with an upgrade. Our private cabin was surrounded by the forest and the views are incredible in every direction. There's a sky light that you'll wake up to in the morning. The floors are heated. What a treat on cooler mornings! You can also enjoy an old-school gas fireplace that'll warm up the entire cabin within minutes. There's a kitchenette and everything else one might need. It's truly modern meets rustic at its finest. Outside you'll find your own fire pit and they even give you s'mores for it! So fun and yummy! There's a creek that runs throughout the neighborhood and there's seating for some euphoric relaxation. In the morning you can take a walk through the forest to their restaurant called Big Sur Roadhouse where complimentary fresh coffee and donuts will be waiting for you. Details! Details! A few things to note: there aren't any TV's here which will give the chance to completely disconnect. WIFI works which means a lot because most of Big Sur is in a complete dead zone. This place is very special and I dream of the day I find myself there again.

Roxanne L.

Yelp
We stayed here for a quick getaway this past weekend, which was also the first weekend Big Sur has been opened since the COVID pause. I loved everything about this sweet little mountain resort. We booked the room "Archies" which had an electric fireplace, warm cozy heated floors, and a little mini kitchen. 1. Staff was welcoming and explained where everything was and how to room worked. 2. The resort is spread out on both sides of highway 1 (west of the highway and east) and has a river with Adirondack chairs nestled all throughout the river. 3. Places to eat are a close short drive away Everything about this hotel made it feel like you were escaping the city. I definitely plan on staying here again, except next time west of the highway.

Yelp
Dealing with this hotel, specifically their front desk representative Nicole, was arguably one of the worst customer experiences that I have ever had. If it were possible to give a negative star rating, I would be inclined to do so. This person was sarcastic, rude, and condescending throughout the entire phone call that I had with them (to be clear - they wouldn't allow me to speak with anyone else). When I asked for clarification on things or to talk to someone else who could provide me with more assistance, she would refer to me as "young man" or say that I "had a lot to learn". Moreover, she threatened to blacklist me from future bookings because I wanted to speak with someone else - never had that one happen before. It's hard to grasp how she thought I would EVER want to stay there in the future if this is the way they treat their guests. This hotel looks beautiful and people seem to have great things to say about it, but I cannot fathom dealing with individuals like this and enjoying the experience. To the hotel manager, I never got to speak to - Nicole did take down my information before she rudely hung up on me. It would be wonderful to speak with someone else. I hope that none of your future guests are subjected to the same treatment that I was. It has left with an unimaginable poor taste in my mouth. At this current time, not only can I not imagine ever staying this hotel, but also I will be actively recommending that people do NOT go here, unless that have some sadistic inclination to be belittled during their entire stay.

Yelp
We loved Glen Oaks! It was the perfect get-away for a few days. We actually eloped there in Mid May and I could not have imagined a more perfect place. The staff was great and super helpful. Big high-five to James at reception! He gave us the lay of the land and helped us plan our little ceremony. Our favorite part, the floors in the bathroom were heated! OH, and the s'mores kit! Oh and the beautiful ground! Everything really was perfect! We can't wait to visit again!

Yelp
Really amazing experience. I highly recommend. We love the s'more's, the wine, the Zen feeling. The fire was amazing. Very secluded and lots of firewood complementary refill. Overall a great experience definitely am contemplating coming back already

Yelp
Like many, we came through Big Sur as part of our PCH road trip. We stayed two nights. Definitely a 5 star establishment not only because of the location and beautiful surroundings, but also the creative design put into the spaces. We stayed in The Gate House- a small modern, yet rustic dwelling with our own private fire pit sitting area. The space was perfect for our two night stay, complete with sky lights, heated flooring, indoor and outdoor fireplace, outdoor path lighting, makings for s'mores, and many other personal touches. For those attached to television, there was no t.v in our room, but that's the last thing we wanted to be doing during our stay here. I recommend anyone that stay here take a jaunt on the trails as you'll be pleasantly surprised by a few hidden seating areas in the river! Highly recommend one cash in on the complimentary donuts and coffee in the mornings... delish!! Overall an absolutely perfect stay packed with surprises, beauty, and solitude!

Yelp
The best weekday getaway. Enjoyed our stay at the Sycamore cabin. Will definitely come back very soon and try the other cabins at Glen Oaks.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed in the Motor Lodge on our honeymoon and WOW, what a place! The room is incredibly cozy - fully stocked with hot chocolate, filtered water and a complimentary bottle of wine. The property even went above and beyond and left a bottle of champagne in the room and a congratulations note! There is a fire pit just a few steps away and the property provides free smore packets - and they don't skimp on what they give you either as many resorts do. Also a cute breakfast place in the morning with free coffee and doughnuts. We literally felt like we were in the middle of the woods in our room. We will be back!

Yelp
We so wanted to love Glen Oaks. The cabins are beautiful. The setting is divine. The location is situated between several great hikes. The Roadhouse food and service are good. Our cabin was clean, handsome, and the outdoor fireplace was all set up when we arrived. But, we did not get a good night's sleep. And it cost us $1900 to stay two nights; quiet rest should have been a given. Once another guest moved into the adjoining cabin, our peace and privacy was over. Every move they made sounded like they were building bookshelves in our room. They were early risers (6am) so, although we hadn't planned to start the day that early, we did. We commented to the front desk and were told the cabins were built in the 1950's and essentially it is what it is. So, if you can ensure your cabin does not share walls with amy others, and that there are no adjoining rooms, perhaps you'll have a better experience. The cabin we stayed in was the Forest View and the one that adjoins it is the River View (could be a good choice for a group if you don't mind hearing every move they make.)

Yelp
I was choosing between Glen Oaks and another place for a quick weekend getaway. I'm very glad I chose Glen Oaks. First off, I let them know I was coming with my partner for her birthday and they left a bottle of champagne with a birthday card for her. Great touch! Also - everyone that stays there gets a s'mores kit every night for the communal fire pit. The room itself was amazing. It had a heated bathroom floor, which doesn't seem like a big deal until you actually try it out. Highly recommended for anyone that wants a hotel to stay in while visiting Big Sur.

Yelp
Last week I decided to get out of the city for my birthday. I called Glen Oaks with the hopes there may be a cancellation because online there were no rooms available. I was extremely excited to learn of a cancellation on my actual birthday! We had a King room on the east side of HWY 1. It was beautiful! And heated bathroom flooring! Amazing. But what absolutely ruined the evening was the bed. In all of my travels I've learned that a hotel is only as good as the bed. The bed in this room was the worst I've ever tried sleeping on. It appeared to be an old spring mattress, hard and unsupportive. And the pillows made it much worse. All 4 were down pillows. Flat as a pancake when pressure is applied. I actually contemplated sleeping in the car. But I ended up piling up clothing and towels to put under my head. If the room is almost half a grand, the bed should be somewhat comfortable. I don't care where the hotel is or what it offers. The bed is the purpose for the stay. When you book a hotel room, you're essentially just booking a place to sleep. So the bed is important! I knew this was a "woodsy" Big Sur adventure but for the price I paid, the comfort should be there. But aside from that, the property is gorgeous. The coffee and doughnuts were delicious. And the staff were really friendly. I may not have gotten any sleep but I did have a good time and I'm happy to have found this cute place.

Yelp
Covid friendly and prepared. Super cute but small bungalows available. Staff was nice and were helpful with a very late check-in. Motor lodges rooms overpriced for what you get. They are near the highway so you won't exactly feel secluded from traffic noise. book the others if you can. WiFi is also painfully slow if you have to do anything. The window in the room was small so getting fresh air into the small room was tough. The Roman styles curtains also force you to choose fresh air/natural light or just plain privacy. We chose the latter so you can't easily see us sleeping from the outside. The room got stuffy everyday and overheated to where we had to leave the curtain up/window and front door wide open to regulate the temperature (it was 55F outside and we still had to do this). While the window had to be open to cool us down a bit, the Blue Jays in the area screech nonstop. Brutal. Wish there was a way to cool the cabins down and the tiny fan didn't help much. The stuffy and hot room paired with the Small and uncomfortable full sized bed caused my wife and I to barely fit and we slept terribly. They called it a queen bed on the site, not quite. Honestly, I would have had better sleep in my tent. Really wanted to enjoy this place but I just didn't. Great location but the motor lodge options are a no go for me.

Yelp
We booked Glen Oaks not really knowing what to expect, but were blown away with the amenities, beautiful property, and service! The check-in process was smooth, and she even gave us recommendations for restaurants nearby. The cabin was private and (despite being 500 sq ft) was all the space we needed! Nearby our cabin were walking paths along a stream, which had different seating areas, and was very peaceful. The best part: at night, the room service had a fire built in the private fire pit, and had a S'more kit for roasting. This was so much fun, and one of the best memories of our trip to Big Sur. I would stay here again!

Yelp
Amazing time at glen oaks Big Sur! You will not be disappointed booking here. The property is very well maintained and the rooms are modern and comfortable inside. We stayed in the little Sur cabin which was perfect. We could hear the river right outside our cabin and had a great time by our private fire pit with the complimentary half bottle of wine. Restaurant is great too with the free donuts and coffee in the morning. Definitely look forward to coming back and trying one of the other cabins.

Yelp
We spent two nights at Glen Oaks, and I'm so glad we did! The other hotels in the area seemed overrun with kids and noise. Glen Oaks was peaceful, quiet and serene. This review is for the Adobe Motor Lodge, where we stayed (not the cabins). We enjoyed seeing birds at the water fountain near the fire ring, including woodpeckers and jays. Giant oak trees throughout the property gave it a lush, private forest vibe. The highlight of our stay was walking across the street for homemade donuts and then exploring the walking trail by the river. The room was small but tastefully decorated in a nice modern style. Loved the in room fireplace and the heated floor in the bathroom. Complementary games and yoga mats available at the front desk. Ice and water machine. I've seen other reviews that complained about the traffic. We live on PCH (200 miles south) so it didn't bother us, but the road is fairly close to the Motor Lodge, so it might be a concern if you can't sleep with the sound of cars going by. Thank you, Glen Oaks! We will be back.

Yelp
We enjoyed our stay at Glen Oaks. The first night we stayed in the East Cabin and the second night we stayed in room 8. Room 8 was amazing with a private court yard and kind bed with sitting area and large bathroom. I loved the design! I have a video but it wouldn't load.

Yelp
Just had a great 2 day stay here. Our room was perfect - roaring fire, heated bathroom floors, comfy bed. The front desk staff was great. S'mores at the communal fire was a great way to meet other folks. And the staff across the street at the Roadhouse were also great. A lot of large crowds and the fella managing the counter did a great job even with large crowds. Quick drives to the Fernwood Tavern, hikes, Big Sur state park, and the restaurants just a few miles down the road. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Amazing!!! My husband and I stayed here for (2) nights after dropping our son off at camp north of here. I found it from a google search. It really was just wonderful. The room (Adobe Motor Lodge King) was perfect. I loved the room - adorable, clean, well thought out - provide organic coffee and tea in the room, complimentary small bottle of wine. They also had a sound machine, yoga mats, filtered water, heated bathroom floor, robe. What I loved the most was NO TV!!! It forced you to really be still and read or relax without a distraction. My husband was able to work from the room and jump on a few conference calls - had great access to their WiFi. They offer free S'mores kits in office. They have a communal fire pit in a canopy of beautiful trees with a water feature. I never nap and I actually laid on the bench with a pillow and book, and next thing I knew, I was out for an hour. Coffee and donut is complimentary across the street starting at 8am. (I wished it was open earlier but no big deal). I would DEFINITELY stay here again.

Yelp
-Wedding inquiry- I just been ghosted by a wedding coordinator... it's been about two- three months. Safe to save, she isn't going to reach out to me. Horrible services from her. Everything from her answering questions and how she presents the company she works for. She tells us how she has the # of experience... but it doesn't matter at the end. What matters is how you speak to those who potentially want to have their wedding at your site. I'm not going to spend money on someone who just too lazy to care. I get it... we haven't signed the contract, so certain questions can't be answered like can we see picture of the venue or can we get some clarification on certain things? Too bad. This was a beautiful place. It is just a bad experience from the beginning.

Rico M.

Yelp
Was planning on staying there for a wedding- booked it then I got this crazy email from them that said: "This confirmation is for individual leisure travelers. If we find that you are traveling with a group coming to the Big Sur Area for a special event/wedding, then our group rates and guidelines will apply. Glen Oaks Big Sur considers a group to be 4 or more rooms traveling to the Big Sur Area to attend or participate in the same event. If we become aware that you are traveling with a group, the above rates are null and void and we will resend an updated confirmation with group pricing and guidelines. All groups are required to have a Big Sur Roadhouse restaurant event or voucher to dine at the restaurant during their stay. If we find out you qualify as part of a group and do not have a contract with us we will add a $45.00 Big Sur Roadhouse voucher to your reservation per person, per stay. If you decline the $45.00 voucher we will cancel your room reservation and refund back your advance deposit." What a crazy policy. Not even sure it is legal, canceled the reservation.

Yelp
Friendly staff, beautiful stay, the amenities were great, we enjoyed the communal fire, trails and the complimentary champagne! Thank you for an amazing stay, will be back again. Book here!

Yelp
I wouldn't come back, not worth the price. We just stayed in Little Big Sur cabin 6 west. The good: * Location - beautiful, amazing and peaceful! The not so good: * Severely clogged shower drain (fixed by a friendly maintenance fellow) * Missing smoke/co2 detector * Walls in need of repair (missing paint, water damage around sink and toilet) * Screen door in need of repair (with all the bugs and mosquitoes, screens are key!) * Bureau sliding doors were off the tracks and I found out why, the squeal was awful, I feel badly for the folks on the other side of our shared wall The cabins are closer to each other than most photos show but I expected that. It's just not worth $376 a night for staying in a shared wall cabin that has a long list of needed repairs.

Yelp
I'm really bummed about this review because we were hoping to make this place our yearly splurge getaway. We stayed in a cabin that came out to about $1000 a night, and at $2000 for two nights (some peoples rent for the entire month!) we just expected the experience and the service to match the price. Unfortunately that was not the case. On day two, we were out all day exploring and came back at almost 4 pm to an almost immediate knock on our door, housekeeping. We were one of the only people left on the property that night as it was an off night, so it's unfortunate they did not prioritize our room and clean it during the day while most people would be out and about, but no worries we said let us get our coats on and we'd head out for a stroll. They said they'd be right back to clean it. We went out, came back, they still hadn't come, so we headed out to dinner. We came back late around 9:30 and they had never come back. So we had no fresh stock of the items we had utilized night one, no fresh towels, no waters, no new sticks for s'mores, no coffee/creamers, hot chocolate, etc. It was pretty disappointing as we were planning on coming home and having coffee and s'mores by the fire. Keep in mind, you're out in the woods and we had been hiking and in nature all day and night so a fresh hotel room isn't too much to ask when you're paying Four Seasons in Hawaii level prices. I have a feeling housekeeping didn't know we were staying in that room because the front desk never communicated to them that we had decided to stay another night. For our second night, we were going to stay in a smaller, more affordable room but decided to inquire about an upgrade as we really loved the tub in our cabin we were in on our first night and with the 3pm and 11 am checkout we barely got to use it. It was also a Sunday night so we were one of the only guests staying on the property that night. Not only did they shoot down any kind of discount on the price of the upgrade(another $430 on top of the almost $500 we had already paid for the second night and the $1k we paid for the first night of the cabin) and even though the cabin was going to be unoccupied for the next few days anyways, they said flat no and didn't offer any alternative options like a later checkout (she said 11:45 was the best they could do but the cabin wasn't booked for days and housekeeping clearly didn't come until 4) other room options with a lower price, heck not even a bottle of wine or something to make us feel better about it, no incentive at all, and honestly she pretty stone faced and cold about the whole exchange. I tried asking about the room we had booked, was it smaller, etc, and she didn't offer any information, just said they're different rooms. Just pretty rude in general and made me feel uncomfortable. We decided to bite the bullet and upgrade, but it was a big splurge for us. So when we didn't get housekeeping that night and in turn no restock on all the amenities you are paying for with the price of any room on the grounds, we really regretted our choice. It was too much money to be handed a key and pushed out the door. That kind of price point requires a basic level of accommodation and service or even just warmth that really was not there. Next time if we are going to splurge we will really just splurge and go to Post Ranch Inn or Ventana.

Yelp
Stayed in a fireside lodge room. The two sided fireplace leaks gas fumes into the room. We told the staff, and they said it's normal?! You seriously can't breathe when the fireplace is on. I have never had a fireplace that makes the whole room smell like gas. The walls are also paper thin. Enjoy listening to your neighbors in bed.

Yelp
This was my husband's choice for our 6 yr wedding anniversary. We stayed in the Big Sur Cabin which was perfect cause it was the last cabin all the way in the back closest to the River, which meant more privacy, less noise and (princess) parking. Room came stocked with S'mores kit, wines (make sure you dont take these home as souvenirs! they will charge the additional amount to your bill *supposedly*) and a Brita filter for drinking water. The kitchen also included a few small appliances (Toaster, Coffee maker, Microwave and water Kettle). Also, who could forget the heated bathroom floors!! I loved every second spent here. Most of our time was spent in the patio, sitting in the soaking tubs, or enjoying a nice drink in front of the fire pit. Downside: We had to wait an extra hour for our room to finish being serviced. Which was not that big of a deal because we got to explore most of the campground/river nearby until it was ready. There is no Ice machine/ice tray when you get to the bottom camp grounds, nearest ice machine is by the Main office up the street. TIPS: If there was one thing i would have done different was to bring more food/snacks from home to enjoy in our cabin. We stayed for only 2 days but found ourselves hungry upon our arrival and in between meals. If you're staying in a cabin that has 2 fire pits, make sure you stock up on some firewood when its still daylight outside or you will find yourself wandering outside in the pitch dark night carrying several logs back to your cabin (I made sure we brought a flashlight, lol). *Side note: be aware of little critters/bugs/crawlers around the area. Happy Travels!
