Lovely neighborhood spot! Came in on a Wednesday and there was a group of locals playing some Irish music ... old school style ... around a table near the fireplace! It was so nice!

I quit drinking before the judge ordered me to—how is that for initiative? Since that last call, no bar has captured my attention. Nor have I returned to any of the bars I enjoyed around here. I’m from the east coast—a pub near a rail station which draws a crowd free of pretense is proper nurture. Glen Park Station is welcoming, comfortable, fun, and built for a night done right. There are non-alcoholic brews for those who abstain, shot-and-a-beer specials for $12.00, wine by the glass, and an indoor smoking lounge. A pinball machine which takes dollar bills. Darts. Superior bar stools. Table seating up front. A rear patio. No Apple Pay.The bar has neighboring businesses which serve food. One can find Vietnamese, Thai, and Mexican fare within a block. The bodega sits across from BART, on the same side of Diamond St. A pizza place is in proximity. This area has a low-key dominance about it. A great spot for socializing, a walkable pocket of the city wherein small businesses sling good eats, and you have the option to get hammered. Parking is available in the public library lot after 6, 7, 8PM during the week. Street parking on the northbound lane of Bosworth between Arlington & Diamond is free in the evenings. I am not sure when the meters stop accepting payment-I pulled up at 7:30PM on a Monday. To those behind the wheel—be advised—residential streets intersect as sharp turns become sudden hills. At all hours there are pedestrians, cyclists, and coyotes. SFPD often posts a patrol vehicle on Bosworth (south of the Arlington intersection) to eyeball the I-280 south on-ramp.

One of the most underrated bars in the city. Friendly bartenders, locals, and a chill vibe all around.

Perfect bar. We had just finished a 12 mile hike through the city and came here for a drink before getting on Bart, I loved it.

Great service. Nice spot to stop and have a quick happy hour cocktail with friends. Excellent spot to catch a game.

If you don’t fit a very specific clientele: white, cis, and San Francisco-native, there seems to be little tolerance for you at Glen Park Station Bar. I came excited to have a good time, meet new people, and support a local spot, as I just moved to Noe Valley, only to find that friendliness and making connections are frowned upon here if you don’t “look” a certain way. 2 other people that I am close to mentioned the same thing, but you never want to assume that people are prejudiced, so I decided to judge for myself. I wish I had not spent any money in there! Not only was I ignored, but I was also told to "wait" in a cold tone by the bartender who was chatting with their regulars. Yet when my friend, a blonde girl, asked for her drink, she was served right away. Edited: My husband, a white man, also did not have an issue getting his beer.

Shane and crew made my month in the neighborhood feel like home away from home. Truly a great place for community that happens to serve alcohol. If you're a fan of a good conversation, there may be no better place in the city to catch one.

I recently moved to Diamond Heights area in San Francisco. I ran into Glen Park Station while I was looking for a local bar to hang with a friend. This dive bar is chill, friendly, fair priced! They have TVs for sport games and a back patio with dart board game. I did not try any of the food, but they drinks were great.

I'm an emotionally intelligent & particular, feminine woman of color. Visited solo on an early Friday evening. First visit in about four years. I highly recommend this bar. It's the best of old-school San Francisco. Some gratis bar snacks, decent German beer very clean bathroom and personable bar staff and nice patrons. What more could you want? I know phonies and racists when they come across me and I would recommend Glen Park Station to people of all nationalities and genders. Don't write many reviews now, only when necessary. Think pink

I saw another review that complained about the bar staff not being friendly to non-regulars. I went here with a group of friends on Sat early evening -- we were all new to Glen Park Station. We were treated just fine! Drinks were good and reasonably priced. They let you bring in outside food (try the taqueria next door!). It was no frills, not crowded, and there was a backroom for a more quiet environment. I will definitely stop again by when I'm back in the area.

Wonderful neighborhood dive bar, plenty of tv's, friendly staff, great ambiance. They have darts and other games in the back.

We went bar hopping and had been wanting to check out Glen Park Station for a few years. We were immediately greeted with a sea of no diversity, but we weren't surprised with it being in Glen Park (lol) It must be a place for regulars because we didn't feel welcome, so we chugged our drinks, downed our shots and ran back to our favorite Ingleside neighborhood.

A local neighborhood bar (the only one) in Glen Park! The bartenders are super awesome and friendly and make an effort to get to know their locals! The drinks are decently priced too! They also have a little arcade/game room in the back and TV's to watch various sports games.

Locally owned and operated! One of the best neighborhood dives in the city that we love to patronize. The new owners are young and did not change much. Really appreciate that part of it...they easily could've changed it to make it upscale and charge more but they kept it the way it was! Low key and reasonably priced!

This is a proper bar. Not a dive or not a hole in the wall but a proper bar. Popped in for a nightcap and the barman was on point. Great service great attitude and a top notch work ethic. Evan made my experience exactly everything I would come to expect from a good quality bar. Top marks

a solid neighborhood bar that isn't the usual overpriced SF swill, but a simple bar with acceptable prices and no frills. usually not too crowded, consistent staff -- this place feels very classic and has very high return value imho.

Stopped by on a quiet Monday early afternoon. Sat at the bar and was greeted by a friendly bartender named Sara. She was attentive and apparently well like by others. Nice ambiance and definitely will stop by again.

An amazingly friendly neighborhood Pub. Clean for a "Dive Bar." Great Happy Hour Prices. Bring Cash or be prepared to drop $20+ to use your CC. They have an AMI Juke Box for Music, which lifts the Vibe, and they have a few screens to watch and enjoy your fav' sports team. Good cocktails and they serve Guinness on Nitro; which is a bonus for me. Plus; you can also order Beer To Go @ a fair price! Say Hi from Tristan for me when you arrive. Great local bar in the Glen Park area. Good place to watch baseball, basketball, and football games. They have good drink selections.

I'll start out with the positives there is no better owner operator of a bar in the city than Shane! This is a good place to grab a drink or two if you just got off bart after a long day, but not much else. I wouldn't advise anyone not to mix with the regular crowd. The bar is very much a high school type atmosphere where if you're not with the "incrowd" you get excluded and bullied & gossiped about and have to deal with drama. I would advise anyone coming here not to intermingle with the regulars.

Love this bar. Great atmosphere and crowd. You can tell they have their local crowd who are all so welcoming and nice. The bartenders know what they're doing and the drinks surely aren't watered down. Great place to catch a drink after work on your way home!

Cash only dive bar. Outdoor seating available but no heat lamps. It's a low key neighborhood bar with a good vibe.

This is probably the closest bar to a Cheers bar that I have been to. The bartenders behind the bar are really friendly but the locals are even friendlier. I love how likely it is to strike up a conversation with the locals who frequently attend the bar. I have had my fair share of fun and interesting conversations. It's very much a dive bar with not a lot of thrills to the actual bar. The actual building is a bit outdated and a lot of the space looks like it could be repaired. There's a nice back space too and it actually has more space then I had originally thought. The reason I'm such a fan though is because it has charm. They even have a jukebox app so it's always fun to take over the bar radio for a bit. A great spot to stop by after BART since it's so close.

Great to see the GPS open again. Popped in for a drink lslast night and had a really good (maybe two) pint of Guinness, thanks Shane!

Cool bar to have a drink after work or if you are in the neighborhood. I been here on a few occasions and always left with a good buzz, and good time. This is the LOCAL 6 Electrician bar. Backyard for smokers, and enough TVs for the games. Once you get a little tipsy you can grab a burrito from Corneta right next door.

Fun vibe! Well-poured drinks and fast/attentive bartenders. Went for Happy Hour drinks with co-workers and discovered that "it's Happy Hour all the time". Drinks are priced well ($5 for a well drink), but as has probably been mentioned, they are CASH ONLY. They have no ATM onsite either, but there is a bank across the street. They serve snack mix on request and looked to have some chips for sale. Otherwise, no food available (that I saw).

Love the atmosphere. Jennifer really took care of me here. I can't wait to come back.

The Station. Early drinkers. Heavy smokers. Bar fly galore. I get to Glen Park with the sun shining and see that the Station is packed @ 4:00. I walk in the door to work and preemptively say to Blake, my co-worker: "I really can't go out tonight." Blake: "Yeah. Me either." ...some hours later at, say 8:00, 7:00 on a hectic night... Me: "I could maybe have ONE drink after work." Blake: "Oh yeah, girl. I'm down for one or two." And so it goes that after a grueling shift we head over to the Station, a.k.a. the GPS, for a drink. Bar flies have long gone home and we pretty much have the bar to ourselves. Sweet. We take our seats...They know us by name... and by drink. Blake: Jameson with a soda back. Me: fernet with a ginger back. We sip strongly. The stress melts away. Another is poured. This time it's on the barkeep. We hunker down onto the bar. A basket of the fresh, "good" snacks are tossed down on the bar for us to nibble. Love this place. Then the transformation begins... The professional, perma, server-smile transforms into a more natural (sarcastic & wry) expression as we re-hash our night of triumphs and tragedies. Boy does it feel good to sit. We laugh at stupid co-worker & customer tricks. The night melts away. Blake feeds the jukebox some money and one of the fine bartenders fills our glasses. The Smiths are playing. Then Al Green. Perhaps a little Santana or Zeppelin. Or a Blake fave, TV on the Radio (he pays extra for those). The Station is just your average dive bar. Moose head over a dart board. Angry bear head by the door. On cold nights, the fire pit blazes. Occasionally, some dude will wander in for a 6-pack (yep. that's right. you CAN get the booze to go). More often than not, there'll be some drunk-ass fool stumbling out for a smoke. You can bet that most nights the place smells like melted Velveeta cheese, or like stale beer and cigarette smoke. But as with all good things, nights at the GPS are short-lived as BART declares my curfew. Just a little tipsy, the stress of the evening has been transformed into a warm, boozy glow, and my chariot awaits to schlep my ass home. ********* UPDATE: 4/22 please note that while i love the GPS, i only gave it 3 stars 'cause the place stinks to high heaven on some nights. pretty knarly.

This bar is awesome. I used to live in the neighborhood, and I can genuinely say, this bar saved my life on more than one occasion. It provided the relief from the day-in-day-out, soul-crushing job I had at the time, and when my girl broke my heart, the kind bartenders were always there to lend an ear, a drink, and make me feel welcome. They always extended hospitality that was above and beyond. Even though I don't live in the neighborhood anymore, I still come back all the time. They have awesome live music here on weekends for no cover, which is always fantastic! The place is filled with interesting folks, some locals, some not, but a great mix of people, old and young, beautiful and ugly, sulky and flirty. The way a good melting pot should be. If you're the type of person who gets offended by people glancing over you and then not wanting to talk to you, perhaps you should ask yourself why you're so very uninteresting, to the point that people would rather ignore you and drink in silence then want to chat with you. Something to think about... This bar has never tried to be upscale, that's the charm. It's got dartboards, a pinball machine, a smoking patio, pictures of sports and celluloid heroes on the wall, a taxidermied buffalo head, beer on draft, spirits on the shelf, a stacked jukebox, and if you're fucking man enough, meat products in a crockpot, that only the realest of dudes can digest. How someone can be annoyed by a fresh flower arrangement is beyond me, but hey - get mad bro. This is an old school bar, plain and simple. No pretentions. If you're not being a jerk, you're always welcome here.

I haven't been to a bar in a very long time. At first, we went to Pissed off Pete, but I didn't feel comfortable there. We decided to try this place instead, which was only a few blocks away from my house. It's a small place but it gave me a better feeling. We sat down at the bar and waited until the bartender came. I don't know his name, it was a Friday night. Maybe he's just stressed or something, he didn't show we were welcome at all. He should work for Pissed off Pete instead, cause his face was telling me he was pissed off! lol! Any way, my friend got a beer, I got two drinks. Later on, another friend joined us too. We had a wonderful time, regardless the bartender's attitude, I'm still satisfied with this place. The drinks were about $7-8 each. Not bad.

"Honey, I'm on my way - I'm just at Glen Park Station." This is the neighborhood bar if you live in Glen Park, and we are lucky to have it. A bit divey, more than inviting; sometimes they have food; they have a back "game room", they have a patio; and everyone fights for that table in front of the fireplace. Before walking in, make sure you have cash! There are ATMs next door and across the street, so hit them up first. When you do walk in, either claim a table or head straight to the bar. Regular cocktails are $4, on tap beers or better cocktails are $5, so definitely enjoying a cheap evening. Regulars are known and welcome, and really makes you appreciate what kind of neighborhood Glen Park is. But likewise I have seen after work happy hour crowds, friends pre-gaming, and even dates here. Heck, I've taken a date or two here. While they sometimes have food, you can always pickup from next door or order delivery to the restaurant which is nice. All in all, I don't think Glen Park could do with a better local dive bar. I've had many good times at GPS and plan to have a few more.

This place is very close where I live so I go there once in a while. I know bartending is not an easy job but if you are miserable go do something else and don't ruin somebody's day and your entire life. Am I not right? It's an okay place but some bartenders are not really cut for the job. Takes forever to get their attention.

Five stars because, without it, there wouldn't be a bar in Glen Park. Also, like the original BART decor, it's carpeted. Yes, this is a carpeted bar. I've heard that Ed Lee drowns his political sorrows here. Unfortunately, I've never seen him in the maudlin crowd. One day, I hope, one day.

I walked in for the first time after visiting Mt. Davidson. I ordered a beer and everything was fine. Then, I put one David Bowie song in the Jukebox. The bartender (bald guy in a black tie, dress shirt and jeans) didn't like it and turned it off after 1 minute. So I lost a dollar to this trash hole, even though an older gentleman told him not to because someone paid for it. I finished my beer and walked out. Definitely will tell friends to avoid.

The best. A real bar with real people. A real bar with real history, real drinks and real bartenders. I remember my pop coming here as a kid, and liking it (too much sometimes). Ive moved back and follow lightly in his shoes. The bartenders Kelly and Shane are gems of humans, and I hope this place stays forever.

The best bar in glen park. Good place to watch whatever sport is playing. Reasonably spacious compared to most of sf and fairly priced. The bartenders keep it clean. Bring your Mexican food from next door, they have great burritos

Great neighborhood dive bar. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here for a drink but if you live nearby or want a drink before eating at one of the nearby restaurants, this is the spot. People are friendly and they pour a strong drink

One of my favorite places when coming to visit Diamond Heights good people love the bartender Richard he's been there for ever. Great drinks for people who know how to drink and can handle it.Drop by and try this place, if you're looking for a small bar.

So I love GPS BUT... my dear friend Joey was removed for no reason by Erin. He's a saint. It's ridic.

I cannot resist the lure of a bar patio with comfy chairs. Even one without a heat lamp... ...But I can resist hot dogs that have been sitting out unrefrigerated, right next to a health score card of 84. The people eating them seemed to be enjoying them based on the fact that they were free. I like to munch on snacks at the bar... ...But not at a bar whose men's room sink is mysteriously located in the crapper stall (I have my sources) and therefore not easily accessible to someone who was just handling his Precious Gift at the urinal before he dunked right into the community snack basket. I like a bartender who knows all his regulars... ...But I scratch my head at a bartender who hands me a 10 as change. How will I tip you, good sir? Would you prefer a knock-knock joke or a jig? I like to chat with people at bars... ...But not about the flies in their drinks. I love the name of this bar, I adore the sign ("Liquor to take out!") I like the huge wood tables and chairs, I like the crowd of neighborhood barflies (kindred spirits), and I like that I can walk home from here. I also like that they keep it real. Sometimes a little too real, but I can handle it.

I want to preface this review with how I think that 1 of the bartenders, Richard, is a wonderful person and treats customers as if they were family. Since I've grown old enough to actually enter the bar (having moving away to attend college before I turned 21), I've been in very few times, only when I'm home visiting, but tonight I had a problem with a new bartender that is young & has black hair (not Rich, who is a wonderful person and one of the top reasons to patronize Glen Park Station during the nights he works), who refused to give me his name for future reference, and is the reason I am forced to only give this bar one star. I grew up 2 blocks away from Glen Park Station, but moved away to go to college before I was 21 & could enter the bar. I had always heard positive stories about Richard the bartender, so I have always spent time at Glen Park Station after long days of visiting SF (not to mention it being very close to where I am graciously allowed lodging during my visits to SF). Tonight (Oct 12/13) I entered the bar (completely sober) after having worked for 8 hours and ordered a gin & tonic with a shot of Jameson Whiskey on the side, which I planned to enjoy while watching highlights of today's sports on ESPN on one of the many bar TVs. The young bartender who was working this evening (not Richard) did not attempt to make any conversation with me or be friendly once I had tipped him for the only drink I ordered, and after having spent $12 on the jukebox, refused to talk to me or serve me another drink. I was completely offended by his behavior & his refusal to give me his name. When I asked him for his name, just so I could connect with him or even have an opportunity to understand his decision. I did not create a scene because bartenders have the right to refuse service to people who have had too much, but after only 1 drink I found it unfair that the bartender refused to serve me because "he did not know me." The bartender's actions were humiliating ("come back a few times and I may serve you more") to hear as he made the situation out to be negative; I had been working hard all day & I had just spent $12 on the juke box. All I wanted was to listen to some music as I unwound after a stressful work-day, but maybe I drank my gin & tonic too slowly or he felt that a $1 tip-per-drink from a college student wasn't enough, so he spitefully refused to serve me after only 1 drink. (maybe he only serves people who tip him $5 or more......). Honestly, yesterday I would have given this bar 5 stars (and intended to) but after this evening I can't give it more stars because I will be boycotting this bar unless Richard is working. As much as I wanted to, I did not argue when I was refused service, but the bartender's behavior was insulting, and I will never patronize this bar and day or night that he is working. It is completely unfair to refuse service merely because he didn't recogize me. This bar is 2 blocks from where I grew up & always heard stories about how wonderful Richard treats patrons, but the new bartender had no interest in conversation or doing his job. I've literally never even thought this before, but I truly hope he gets fired or quits - he doesn't deserve to work at a place like this. The bartender not only embarrassed me by refusing to serve me a second (watered down) gin and tonic, but embarrassed me infront of friends. We had to leave because we aren't negative people and didn't want to be negative/escalate the situation. I can promice that this bar will not get my patronage unless Rich is tending bar, but even then I still may never come back. Bartenders should be able to turn away customers who have been drinking too much, but I have never experienced having been thrown out of the bar after 1 drink in which I didn't fall asleep, start a fight, be loud/obnoxious & atthe same time tried to (unsuccessfully) spark friendly conversation with the bartender (who blatantly ignored me). I'm never coming back, and you should not start. I want to love this place, but only by boycott will behavior ever change. (He refused service the day before, Thursday October 11th because he claimed he had called "last call" before 1:20am). This guy is lazy & unfriendly; why should I waste my hard earned money to not only buy drinks, but tip him along thew way EVERY time? I wish I could tell this bartender that I believe him to be full of ****, but even if I did, it would not change anything except for to make him more petty/unreasonable. I will never go to this bar again.

GPS is one of the most comfortable casual neighborhood bars in one of the most comfortable casual neighborhoods in the City. The bartenders are friendly, the pours are generous, and the place just feels good.

For only $5 for a glass here at Glen Park, I can get pretty blurry eyed and blushy faced. Which, in turn, can produce a solid set of wine goggles. And..well, let's just say I've used poor judgment here a couple of times. This is my good pal's neighborhood watering hole we frequent when I'm in her hood..it's a must-go-to for the end of the night. The bartenders are usually pretty cool, they have a decent wine selection and sometimes, there's eye candy in here and that makes me happy.. especially when I'm drinking. La Corneta is right next door and I like that I can take a break, grab a burrito and soak up some of my drunkassedness before it gets out of hand. Not that it ever helps but, I'll use any excuse for a burrito at that place. I shall return Glen Park Station... and next time, I won't be the cougar making out inappropriately with the manchild in ladies room : / Sorry about that.. tee hee.

Dive on in... the beer's just fine! Living across the pond, I am exceptionally amused by Londoners' attempt to grasp exactly what a dive bar is. Glen Park Station oozes a dive vibe (infinitely aided by cigarette smoke, a dart board and the stiffest whiskey pour I've had in years) and I truly wish I could bring Brits here for their "more you know" moment. 'Cause sharing is *hick* caring, *hick* right?

While the wife's away, the mice will...mostly stay home, drink to excess and sing along to Carole King, I suppose. But I figured I would kick off my week of loneliness with some monday-night drinking at Glen Park station--it's on the way home from the airport, after all. I was sort of expecting droopy-old-man dive, or for it to simply be empty, but I was quite surprised. Fairly busy with one of the most diverse bar crowds I've seen in a while, worn-in-but-not-worn-down decor, and a white-haired bartender who wears a tie. In other words, the best bar in West Portal--except it's in Glen Park. Throw in free goldfish crackers, copies of the Onion laying around, Monday Night Football and ABBA on the jukebox, and you've got a real neighborhood classic. It's nice to know that if I moved here (and it's high on my list), I'd have all my bases covered -- morning (Cafe Bello), noon (La Corneta), and night (Glen Park Station). I'll reserve the last star for the day when I run into KayJay here. Cuz that would take it to a whole 'nother level.

Came here the other night for a friends birthday party. It's totally dive-y but they accommodated our rather large party for the night. The bartenders were totally nice and so was the clean up staff. For the most part, that's really all I can remember, this being because I got wasted and don't remember the rest. Tips and Pointers: -Cheap drinks -Live band -Lots of parking (for a saturday night) -Really nice management and wait staff -Trough style urinal (not really relevant, but i thought i'd throw it in there) [APPROVED]

My local dive bar, even though I no longer live in Glen Park. I've been coming here for four years now, and it's always been basically the same, aside from the evil new-ish jukebox that randomly throws tantrums. It was seriously a bit jarring for me when they put in a new carpet last year. The drinks are cheap and strong, and there's always something tasty on tap. Tom is my favorite bartender, and he'll hate me for telling you all, but he makes the best bloody marys ever on Sundays. They also have a lot of great performers come in for live music nights. The clientele is mostly older people who live in the neighborhood, along with people who work in Glen Park Village, as well as my friends and I, who are the ones playing weird things on the jukebox (when the damn thing is actually working). It's a place where I can come in and get a drink alone without random bros trying to talk to me, or sit in the back and eat pizza with friends while watching Giants games or throwing darts. All in all, an awesome comfy dive bar.

Sweet, sweet Glen Park Station. I have missed you over the past few years. I miss your dart room area and your jukebox and your free hot dogs and your nicely poured drinks. I miss eating La Corneta burritos at the bar and playing dice games. I miss your funky, foul smell. I miss the old school regulars who forgot I was a regular too, because they were always drunk out of their minds. I miss your patrons who liked to argue over the invisible line that divided Sunnyside from Glen Park. I miss the bartenders who sometimes served me stale disgusting Newcastle Ale. We stopped by Glen Park Station for a few drinks after dinner. UH completely not what I was expecting but sort of. This place a huge bar, lots and lots of seating, jukebox, bison head, fireplace, dart board.... the place has cheap drinks and pretty good service. Weird thing is this guy came in trying to sell us steaks. That was sorta weird.. PS. this bar is CASH only.

This is (sorta) my home bar. I say sorta because there is nothing I feel particularly attached to, but I go a lot because it's the closest place with a beer tap. I don't really see this place as a dive bar, the floor is clean, the clientelle seem to be on the right side of the law and the bartenders wear ties. They all kinda remind me of Sam Malone actually. But I guess this is San Francisco and some people consider any bar that is not designed for meeting singles as a "dive". I like the vibe, the parking is good and the music ain't too loud to talk, but not too quite. Although come to think of it I can't name one song I've heard at this bar before. If you're looking to get out of the house and grab a beer, maybe watch a game, this place is for you.

I don't really consider this a dive bar. It's more like a down-to-earth, non-fancy neighborhood bar where you can just hang out and have a drink, watch sports, play darts, or listen to the jukebox. The bartenders are friendly and the prices are right, so you won't go broke getting your drink on. They always have snacks (pretzels, etc.), but on Friday nights they usually have hot snacks (last night it was meatballs, but another time it was small bites of pizza). It's always nice to have something to absorb the alcohol, so if you need something more substantial than bar snacks, you can always visit La Corneta next door for a burrito and bring it with you! There's also an outside seating area in the back where the smokers can get their fix instead of standing on the sidewalk. I usually go to this bar after work on Fridays with friends who live in the area, but I wouldn't make a special trip here. However, if you live in the area or if you're looking for somewhere to have a drink before dinner at Gialina or one of the other restaurants in the area, it would be a nice place to spend some time, relax, and have a cocktail. (Keep in mind that it's cash only, but there's a BofA ATM right next door.)

What a strange and wonderful little place. I'm new to the neighborhood and was asked out to drinks by a gentleman caller and he suggested Glen Park Station on a Sunday night. On my way there, I got a text message saying, "There is live music here tonight...." I get there and there is a freakin' string quartet playing. I'm still not sure whether it's awesome or weird. I think awesome.
