I've been going here since high school tennis days for practice. I used to love going here, until this morning, when my friends rented the court for four players + and helped teach two beginners how to play (unpaid lessons). All I did was feed them balls with my hand or racquet, taught them forehands and backhands. They're first-time players. Kaleen Worley, the head professional coach at Glendoveer, started coaching on the court next to us. She noticed that I was coaching and came up to me, told me that I'm not allowed to coach, and that I could not have more than 9 tennis balls on the court. The front desk told me 10 balls. She also then made a degrading comment about one of my friends' tennis skills since they were shanking a few balls over to Kaleen's side of the court. It is absolutely unprofessional and unwelcoming. I was not running a business obviously coaching, I had no ball hopper or basket, I had a few balls in my pocket and we were just making the best of what we had to let these girls learn some tennis, and Kaleen made us all feel unwelcome. She then went to the front desk to notify them to force me to pay even though the front desk excused me as I was just helping coach as a volunteer. I've volunteered teaching tennis for a few years, and this is the first time I have witnessed this type of discrimination. Kaleen decided to butt in during our court time even when I told her not to, interrupting us for more than 5 minutes to explain to us these unwritten draconian rules about not allowing coaching unless they're your "girlfriend, wife, kid". It is absolutely unacceptable, and I do hope more people realize how harmful this type of behavior is to the tennis community. Kaleen should be ashamed of herself, and Glendoveer should ashamed be as well for hiring this Karen.
