Texas Restaurants Can Reopen This Week, But Restaurateurs Still Have Major Concerns - Eater Dallas

"Even before Abbott announced these updated guidelines, though, people in the DFW suburb of Colleyville demonstrated that many of them are itching to return to their normal dining-out routines. After the city’s mayor allowed restaurants to reopen their patios in defiance of the statewide “stay at home” guidelines, diners packed into local favorites like Gloria’s Latin cuisine, many ignoring social distancing guidelines." - Amy McCarthy

We had dinner at Gloria‘s the other night and it was so delicious. I had to take pictures and share. The atmosphere is comfortable and inviting , perfect for a date night. The service was outstanding and our waitress did a fantastic job ( I didn’t get her name) it was nice to have dinner with my family where we could actually have a conversation during our meal. And bonus, it’s a local favorite so we did run into some friends.

Wonderful food and service. Love the plantains. They had just the right amount of crispy goodness. The salmon was well done. The vegetables with it were perfect--perfectly cooked and seasoned. Great combination of spinach and carrots with bell peppers and surprisingly, snow peas. It worked. The rice (arroz casamiento) was delicious. It was the rice and beans all mixed together for me. Great sour cream enchiladas as well. They had nice fresh chips and green, red, and bean salsas. They were all good. And honestly the prices were good as well. It was plenty of food for under $20 a plate. They have a nice patio, and they had portable ac to keep everything comfortable in this Texas heat. Our server was quick and checked on us frequently. We'll definitely be back.

Google
I loved the service here, and my food came out perfect and timely! I came here on a Thursday afternoon and it wasn't too busy. My server was nice and attentive, the food was delicious, and it was an overall great experience! I tried the Pupusas (cheese only) for the first time and they did not disappoint. I can't wait to visit here again!

Google
The atmosphere was good, it was lively and the restaurant had a nice ambience. You could tell the people like this place as there was a steady stream of folks being seated while we were there. The food was good but that's about the best I can say for it. Being Latin I expected much more flavor, it was just a little bland. I had the Carne Flameada with high expectations. It was extremely tender, that was surprising and fantastic, but again the lack of any real burst of flavor was disappointing. My wife had the chicken chimichanga but nothing that said we have to go back and eat here again. I guess we just expected more because every time we've been by there there has been a line waiting.

Google
Excellent service and food last night at Gloria's. Been to many locations numerous times over the years, always a great experience. However, we had not ordered the kids meals before. Big plates and a really good value for the kids, and they loved the ice cream at the end. Plus the queso was especially good! Will definitely be back.

Google
this is generally our go-to spot if we have nothing planned for dinner. the staff is always friendly and hard working. the food has been great every time we come, and we've tried may of the dishes since we moved to Colleyville. will continue to come back to this restaurant, it's the best Latin/Mexican cuisine in the city that we've found.

Google
I love this place! I go about 3 times a week now- it’s so addicting and when I start comparing other places to it and then just go there instead lol. The plantains are delicious for dessert and they have wonderful food that I have worked pretty much through every item on the menu and a couple items that weren’t on the menu ;-) I would recommend the chile relleno stuffed with steak or chicken with poblano rice and refried beans. Their Salmon dishes are also excellent. This is a Salvadoran restaurant and not a Mexican one, but the dishes are familiar with slight twists if you’re familiar with Mexican or Tex-Mex food.

Google
Always a good time at Gloria’s. Enjoyed the beautiful spring weather with a twist and fajitas. Great staff and food was steamy fresh!

Yelp
I love the food here it always comes out delicious but when it comes to their bean dip I cannot resist the deliciousness. The service here is great. Every time Ive come here the servers are so attentive. Steaks here are savory and tender.

Yelp
Stopped by Gloria's for a quick lunch on Friday. When we arrived there was plenty of parking in front of the building. We parked and headed inside where we greeted the host. The host seated us and it seems like the booths are the best seating option as the tables in the dining room are a bit close together. Once we sat down we ordered a bowl of chile con queso to start with which was very good. Additionally, chips were brought to our table with 3 different dip options (black bean dip, salsa, and salsa verde). The black bean dip is one of the main reasons I go to Gloria's, it is just so good! Our server returned later and I ordered the steak fajitas. The fajitas were a bit overcooked but had great flavor and definitely would order this again. If I'm in the area, I definitely would come back to Gloria's.
google avatar

Yelp
Gloria's is always solid! The black bean dip is made of magic, and I could easily make eat it by the spoonful. If you're able to eat at Gloria's with a friend, their fajitas for two is such a great deal and plenty of food. We typically get the combination chicken and steak, and both meats are nicely tender and well seasoned. Vibes inside are always nice and cozy as well. Overall a great spot for great food.

Yelp
Food is always good and consistent. Service is also on par with longtime servers who recognize you! The frozen margarita with a shot of Grand Marnier is the best in town , 2 only!! The cheese enchiladas with Chile Con carne and fresh onions on top taste like my grandmothers!

Yelp
I was on my way to the market, two days before Christmas, and was getting hangry. Between the traffic and general shenanigans, I was over it and popped into Glorias to grab a bite and take a breather. It was about 2:45 and I was given a lunch menu. I ordered a margarita on the rocks and chips and dips were rushed out. It has been a minute since I have visited Glorias, but I didn't recall them brining out the salsa verde, before. Their black bean dip is fantastic and their salsas are solid. I tried not to go too nuts on them because I had redfish tacos on their way. The tacos were cooked perfectly and had a good amount of protein in them. I was glad they put the chipotle ranch on the side, as it wasn't my favorite. Though I am just a casual fan of ranch. Salsa is all I need for tacos. I enjoyed the tacos but so far nothing I have had is better than the chicken a la Mexicana. It is so spicy and good. I keep trying to branch out, but end up wishing I had stuck with my favorite. The service was good and the food came out quick. I didn't know they did lunch specials and that was a nice surprise. I won't wait so long to come back.

Yelp
I come here for fresh seafood. Not a huge fan of the Tex mex options but to me Gloria's is about bringing your friends together for ceviche and a few drinks, not about binging on chips and hot sauce. The mood is business casual but I see all sorts from those just coming from a workout to those out for a nice dinner. Waitstaff is very accommodating and kind.
google avatar

Yelp
We travel to several Gloria's in the metroplex and not one time have I been disappointed. This location gets really busy and the patio area can be tight and packed at times, but the food is always on point and never disappoints. I had a new cocktail a few months ago at this location and it was so good. The spicy pineapple margaritas is my new fave!. Paired with the cevice tostadas, made for a great girls night snack and drink.

Yelp
Delicious, awesome server, cups stayed full but not checked on us but did not crowd us. Home made tortillas, so good! Ambiance low light, good music.
google avatar

Amanda H.

Yelp
The food is always amazing here. Both my husband and I get the Carne Asada with a double order of the plantains. However, this review is to praise the service. We were sat with Rubi and her glowing smile and accommodating demeanor should be praised. She was attentive and friendly. We will be back!!
google avatar

Alyssa W.

Yelp
The black bean dip is so good! Everything was delicious and our waitress was sweet and the service was fast. I ordered the carne flameada and my husband ordered tacos.
google avatar

Heidi M.

Yelp
Always a winner! The rice is different, really Latin, and the service was great. It's a nice quiet environment and the TVs over the bar aren't blaring. The sauce on the chimichanga was so good. I got it in the side as I like salsa for a topping but I'll get it again.
google avatar

Yelp
Swirl Margarita was delicious and the pupusas were magical. Green salsa was awesome as well as great customer service

Yelp
We went to Gloria's for lunch this weekend. It was incredible. Every dish we had was bursting with flavor. The ceviche was the best I have ever had. And the beef a la mexicana? Absolutely spectacular. The service was excellent. When in Colleyville you need to experience this place.

Yelp
Gloria's is a staple in Colleyville. The ambiance is always friendly and upscale regardless of when you come. The service is always friendly and their food is exceptional. I ordered the mar y tierra which is surf and turf. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and the shrimp was cooked just right. The fried yuca is always great and their chimichurri is fresh and excellent. Our next meal was their ceviche which was seasoned perfectly and was filling flavor. The chicken tortilla soup had the right amount of spice and a large amount of chicken. Gloria's is a great establishment and highly recommend you give them a try!
google avatar

Yelp
The hype over the margaritas is completely unjustified. Of course as with any review, my humble opinion. We tried three different varieties and none were even on par with what you can make at home with simple ingredients. I suppose this comes down to personal preference, but unless you enjoy a very, very sweet margarita, I would pass on the signature cocktails here. An exception: the El Jefe (Ranch Water), was just what I needed after the first round of liquified sugar. I loved the way it's served up, with a shot glass of lime juice and a mini bottle of topo chico to dilute to my liking. The wine list is short but the pours are generous. On the subject of food, I think we all felt a little "mehhhh". Not bad, but nothing I'd return for either. We did like the black bean dip for the chips. And the chips themselves, very good. The ceviche desperately needs more kick. The service was slowwwwwwwwwwww, but we were in no hurry. I'd venture to guess they have some staffing issues - same as everyone else these days. The ambiance is good - we enjoyed both the bar and the booth. Overall, Gloria's is a fine choice for people with lower standards.

Yelp
Loved the tamales wrapped in banana leaves. The chimichanga had great flavor. And we had great service. Kept our teas filled.

Lois M.

Yelp
We absolutely love this restaurant! The food is presented beautifully, it looks and smells so good you almost don't want to eat it, I did say almost. The service is impeccable, very friendly, courteous and caring about your dining experience. We went on a Sunday and the place was lively with families and others, a good energy. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Talisha M.

Yelp
Nice place with decent Mexican food. Great service. The combination platter was a good option for a variety and was good.
google avatar

CheRie O.

Yelp
Been here multiple times with friends and family. So far, it's always been a good experience. I always get the house frozen margarita and I can only drink 1-1.5 glass of it coz it's strong. I tried the mango margarita and it's not that strong. No buzz after 2 glasses Chips & salsa + black bean dip are the best. We love their ceviche and fajitas. Food is really good, as well as the service. Definitely will continue to go back here.

Jack F.

Yelp
Frozen margaritas are to die for ! ! ! ! ! If you need an excuse for more than one, enjoy the great chips and salsa. (as per this Mexican food expert)

Yelp
Soooooo this is my first time... EVER going to Glorias and just absolutely delish! Interestingly enough, I dined on Cinco de Mayo and they did have a single drink special (a little disappointing). Out to the table was fresh black bean dip and it was hot and tasty! I could have bowls of this alone. I sprinkled a little salt in that thang and BOOM! I could see this being the revival food after happy hour sips. We got the tamales, blackened red snapper and spinach quesadillas! The tamales had a very wet consistency that I wasn't the biggest fan of but the chicken was very moist and had a bunch of flavor. The snapper could've been blackened waaaay more and it wasn't cooked to my liking but the chipotle butter sauce and bed of poblano rice where soooo good! I got extra rice and sauce :P Honestly, I could see myself eating the rice and sauce as a regular order. The spinach enchiladas were very good and perfect for a vegetarian meal! Service was a bit slow.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was awesome!! Jose gave the very best service and made a drink to help me with my headache! On point with everything!! Thank You!!
google avatar

Yelp
The skinny margarita is delicious. Chips and salsa were very good. I can't wait to go back and have their chicken soup.
google avatar

Yelp
Didn't make it past the hostesses.... The manager needs to get some training for those girls.
google avatar

Yelp
I love their soup. Chicken - it's the perfect meal for colder days. Great bar and restaurant. I've been to most and the service is always good
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to dine! We've seen Gloria's a few times one located in Colleyville and another in Southlake. Came to the Colleyville one for a late lunch and it was a nice experience. Service was fast and the food was good! Most of the lunch meals range around 13.99. I tried the salmon w a side of the chimichurri sauce. Sauce needed salt but otherwise all fresh Ingredients.

Yelp
I am giving a rare 5 stars, not because this place will blow you away... but because over the last few years it's come to be one of our go-to places and I'll try to figure out why for my review. For 1, their black bean dip (that comes out free with the chips and salsa) is bowl-licking good. Not that I've stooped to that level. I devour it and then they happily and quickly bring more. My kids love it too. 2. their frozen margaritas are reliable. I know what I'm getting and it doesn't change. They're delicious. 3. the kids menu is LEGIT. $6 kids carne asada. Yes, please. 4. During nice weather, we love their Cute patio (and it doesn't involve the blinding sun like other patios). 5. If I'm not mistaken, it was the first Colleyville restaurant to re-open during covid. We found out and went the next night... there were news crews, etc. they had tables spaced out down the sidewalk and I'll never forget the energy in the air and meeting our friends for dinner after cooking every stinkin meal alone at home for weeks. It was bliss. So it's been a go-to spot for years.
google avatar

Debbie W.

Yelp
We just love our Gloria's. You can never go wrong with anything. Walter is a great server and Alex always makes sure we have our favorite wine. The new steak entree Cascabel Steak was awesome. They have basically added a Reata's quality steak for $24!! Yum!!!

Alana P.

Yelp
Delicious food and very original The ambiance is always happening The music is always fun and the service is always great
google avatar

Andrea A.

Yelp
They ran out of eggs at noon on Father's Day.... I had to complain they tried to play it off like it was fine. They should've just asked before making the meal so I had the opportunity to pick a different plate.
google avatar

Kimberly Keeter M.

Yelp
Huge disappointment to not have brunch on Mothers Day. I guess a lot of people were okay with a limited Mexican food menu with their mimosas but had I known I wouldn't have wasted my family's time going. We will plan to go somewhere else the next holiday.
google avatar

Daniella M.

Yelp
Food is amazing in this place. This is one of my favorite restaurants! It never fails, it's always great!
google avatar

Jen G.

Yelp
5/28/22: I'll make this short & sweet- see my Gloria's Southlake review for all the deets about Gloria's! I love the Southlake location, so we were in the area and decided to come try a different one. We ordered our usual (pescado & salmon, $14 each). Great chips, salsa & bean dip. I'd say the quality is the same. I do think the Southlake location is better in terms of the ambiance/location, and at least for the one time we tried the Colleyville location, better prepared food. But if we were in the area, we wouldn't hesitate to come back. But given the choice between the two, Southlake is still my #1 fave. However, compared to other franchise restaurants, I think they beat out the competition!
google avatar

Tara E.

Yelp
We went here this evening for happy hour/ dinner. We had a martini and margarita which wetE both delicious and cheap! For dinner we both ordered the chicken toastadas which were delicious and a good amount of food! Our server was not very knowledgeable about the happy hour menu but I think she was new or wanted a bigger tab. We ordered a sliced avocados for my infant aNd they were $2.50 for not even a half of an avoocado. When we went to the restroom, we entered the stall after the manager that was on duty. There was NO toilet paper- she could have at least had the decency to tell us that..

Jessica F.

Yelp
This place is always so good and the staff is amazing. They have the best tacos that I have ever had!
google avatar

Lonnie H.

Yelp
Man we walked in starving thank goodness there was not wait on a Saturday night. We ordered a couple of drinks margaritas on the rocks. Wow they did not disappoint such a wonderful refreshing beverage. The black bean dip is vey good as well, they bring it out with the chips and salsa. I ordered the brisket tacos with refried beans and the veggies. They taco's amazing the beans super yummy and those vegetables omg they were out of this world. Savory mango who knew it was so good and of course snow peas I mean snow peas is all that really needs to be said. It was a great meal Abigail was a delightful person and treated and took very good care of us. We will definitely be back

Yelp
Gloria's Latin Cuisine is our go to restaurant in DFW for quality food and stellar service. Every single time we have an awesome meal! The restaurant has a nice ambiance with fun latin music playing. It's a great place for families, girls night or a date night. Once you are seated the waiter brings you a warm black bean dip, fresh salsa and tortilla chips. This is one of my favorite parts about coming to Gloria's because the black bean dip is amazing! I typically order the ceviche trio as an appetizer and then the tropical salad with salmon as my main entree. My husband has tried many things on the menu and has enjoyed all of them. Gloria's is also known for their margaritas and mojitos! They are a real treat! We've never had a bad time or meal at this restaurant and look forward to our next visit!
google avatar

Patty J.

Yelp
The manager Jesus and waitress Maria did outstanding service!! The table next to us dropped a knife on the floor. Jesus was fast and kind to replace it with lightning speed. Wow never have I seen great service. Gloria's is a reminder of what a restaurant should be. Haven't seen this in years. Thanks Gloria!!
google avatar

Kate B.

Yelp
A bunch of friends and I came in on a Tuesday night. There were maybe 10 people on the whole restaurant with at least 12-15 empty tables. However they made us wait at least twenty minutes for a table. I asked if they were close to closing since the place was empty but they said they wanted to seat us in a special section and there were two people sitting there. It was really weird. Chips and salsa are good. I particularly liked the bean dip which you don't get everywhere. I ordered tacos al carbon which was good but not spectacular. The terrier beans were really runny. Not the greatest experience. Not sure I'll come back to this location.

Zoe R.

Yelp
Great place for authentic, higher end, latinx cuisine! Very family friendly but also elegant enough for a nice date night. Never had a bad dish! Great flavors and everything always tastes fresh. Almost all servers are bilingual and every staff member is incredibly knowledgeable and kind. Good ambience with authentic latinx music which is loud enough to make you feel immersed but not overbearing. Great place!

Yelp
Out of these two words Great and Amazing It would be amazing the service was amazing and just a amazing as the food the tamales were amazing

Chris M.

Yelp
Gloria's has a very good menu with a lot of options. Their bar does a good job and has a good mix of drinks, wine and hard liquor, to choose from. Their staff does a good job even with a large restaurant and it seems like fast turning of the tables.
google avatar

Nim M.

Yelp
I haven't been to Gloria's in probably over ten years and it is just as good as I remember it. Complimentary chips come with salsa and a black bean dip, both of which I highly recommend. We went on Mother's Day so it was extremely busy and I went in expecting sub par service and long wait times. However, this was not the case! Our server apologized for the wait more than once and explained that it would be around 20-30 minutes before our food came out. For a place that's open on Mother's Day, that wait time is nothing! From the time we ordered to the time we got our food, it took about 25 minutes. Three entrees were ordered and every single one was delicious. It's been a couple weeks so I don't remember the names of the dishes but I've attached a photo of what we ordered. By the end of the meal, each plate was clean! To perfectly end the meal, after the bill was paid and we were getting ready to leave, the server brought a rose to our table for the mom of the group. Turns out they were doing that for every mom that came in!
google avatar

Jennifer a.

Yelp
I thoroughly appreciated our server, Carla. She was attentive and funny. We also were checked in on by the managers too. The food was great. I love their chicken veggie soup. Anyway, ask for Carla! She's awesome.

Yelp
I visit Glorías in Colleyville with my coworkers regularly since it's right down the street. The menu has so many different options that we can each get what we like and try something new as well every time we visit. My favorites are either the pupusas or the steak and chicken with enchilada plate. So yummy! I can never decide which one to choose...lol. They serve complimentary black refried beans along with the chips and salsa and it's so hard not to get full on those alone while we wait for our orders to come out because the chips are fresh and the beans are nice and hot. In the past, I have ordered their strawberry margarita and it was so strong I was not able to finish it, but they have many different drink options as well, I just haven't had a chance to try anything else...yet.

Nelson V.

Yelp
Service is always excellent here never have a complaint. The food is delicious and the drinks are quite tasty. The music is Hispanic which I love! I've been coming here since I moved to Texas and I'll probably be back next week.
google avatar

Ashleigh L.

Yelp
Gloria's is Gloria's. I love it. I like the warm bean dip that's served with the chips complimentary along with the salsa. They have kids menus which works for my family- 2 young boys and it comes with a drink so we define that as a good value. I typically order the shrimp nachos. A friend turned me onto these and they are fantastic. I find it hard to deviate from that selection. My husband ordered the fish tacos and enjoyed those as well. And every day between M-Th is happy hour. No hours. Just weekdays. So you can get your classic mojito or margarita for $5.
google avatar

Yelp
Good food awesome staff. I'm 61 characters away so I need to keep typing. Eat here. Z

Yelp
The food was so good, especially the sour cream enchilada. I definitely want to go back and just have a plate of the sour cream enchiladas now. The rice and beans were very good, pretty much perfect. The fajita beef taco was a little too greasy. The crispy taco tasted good; the meat had alot of seasoning. The margarita was very fruity and strong.
