10 Best Bars and Restaurants for a Taco Tuesday in San Antonio | Eater

"Dallas’s long-running nightlife hot spot made its way to San Antonio in 2017, bringing with it not only steamy nights set to salsa beats but also a wide-ranging menu that combines owners Gloria and Jose Fuentes’s Salvadorian roots with Tex-Mex classics. The crispy taco dinner tastes even better with a 1862 Margarita, made with Cazadores Reposado tequila, fresh lime juice, and St-Germain. (This twist on a margarita is a tribute to the first Gloria’s location in Addison.)" - Vox Creative

Marco was an outstanding waiter, professional, attentive, and warm. The food was equally impressive, making for what could have been a near-perfect dining experience. Unfortunately, I encountered a concerning situation that impacted my overall impression. While washing my hands in the restroom, I noticed a waitress, exit without washing hers. I followed her and respectfully pointed out that it was unacceptable for someone in her role to neglect such an essential hygiene practice. She apologized and returned to wash her hands. While I appreciated her acknowledgment, the fact that she initially chose to leave the restroom without washing her hands was unsettling and significantly affected my rating. Aside from that incident, I truly enjoyed the rest of my experience.

Google
Excuse the bite of the pupusa before snapping a picture, but wow. Just wow. Everything was delicious. I DEFINITELY suggest the dirty Mexican Margarita, I’d kiss the bartender if I could. Compliments to the chef and of course…. Thank you David! You’re so kind and patient, we really appreciate your service!!! From walking in, to walking out, just an overall amazing experience. Will definitely be coming back. Thank you for keeping the Salvadoran traditions alive, it most certainly shows.

Google
We love Gloria’s! It’s our go to for after church or on the weekend. Service is great, drinks are superb, and the food is so delicious. Plus, the patio is always welcoming regardless of the weather.

Google
Our server April was wonderful. We didn’t have to ask for refills or anything. She just knew what we needed. The food was very delicious and the atmosphere was great.

Google
The atmosphere was great. The server was very knowledgeable. I enjoyed eating here and had the person in charge of the restaurant came by a couple of times asking if everything was satisfactory. The food was good we especially liked dessert. The churros were amazing. I plan on going again and experiencing more of the menu

Google
Amazing Latin cuisine restaurant! Delicious plates along with tasty cocktails. Every single location for Gloria’s never disappoints. Had an amazing experience at the Rim location. Marco took care of us and had relentless customer service. Additionally, had the manager check on us to ensure everything was up to our standard. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a lavish dinner experience.

Google
Had a cozy romantic dinner.. Waiter was very attentive and even got greeted by the Manager at our table. Appetizers were great, and our plates were delicious. Don't skip on the house margaritas or mimosas. Great happy hour choices.

Google
Clarize and David were amazing. Patio was great. Margaritas were the best in town. Been here 4x in 3 weeks and it’s always on point. Keep up the great work

Yelp
Friday date night and stopped by here after watching a movie. The manager and our waiter were great. The chips, salsa, & bean dip was a good starter. Ordered drinks and the pupusa to share and the pork and cheese were the best ones. Will definitely come back, the ambiance is mixed dress up or down family with kids or no kids.

Yelp
Food was amazing. If you're vegan be careful the black beans have chicken stock in it. Our waiter hated his job, and it showed.. but other than that the food was amazing and I loved it. 1 frozen margarita messed me up

Yelp

Yelp
Great ambience. Delicious food. Churros were warm, fresh, and delicious! Our server was good, friendly and very attentive.

Yelp
Ambiance: clean, roomy, cool and comfortable- 5/5 Food: I ordered the Chile Relleno while my wife ordered the asada tacos. We both enjoyed our food though she felt it was too much so didn't finish her tacos. I liked my Relleno but have had better - 4/5 Service: polite waitress and checked up on us once during service. Wasn't outstanding but neither was it bad so 4/5. Overall impressions- nice atmosphere, good food and reasonably priced. Would definitely return. On a side note: my wife had been here before and she loved the Salmon salad.
google avatar

Yelp
We had 2 of their salmon lunch plates. It's one of favorites here. Today's lunch portions of salmon were a lot smaller than usual. Their chips and salsa is great. Their bean dip is delicious. The service was OK today. The waitress was on slow mode today. She got things to us as it pleased her. Otherwise, if you're at the Rim, the restaurant is a must try.

Yelp
Met up with some friends for birthday celebrations. I ordered Salmon Costeño which was actually very good. It is nice to have other Latin cuisine options in addition to Mexican. My group of friends and I decided to stay for the Salsa Night.. in hopes we can get some dancing in. I have to say, music was a bit disappointing.

Yelp
We love this place, the dishes flavor its fresh and consistent! The service it's superb and you can have both ambiance's the intimate feeling inside and the casual patio outside. Importantly Management it's always around !
google avatar

Yelp
The food at Gloria's is always great no matter the location! I got the brisket tacos. The service felt a little rushed but we did get there right at opening, and they didn't have the pomegranate mimosa available. We sat outside which was really nice given the weather. I would come again just a few hours after opening in case I wanted pomegranate.

Yelp
It's National Margarita Day, and we headed to @gloriaslatincuisine for dinner tonight. Thursday is one of the all-day happy hour days. Dad had Lemonade, and Hubby and I had Mango Margaritas. Love their complimentary chips and salsa and bean dip. One of the best in town! Dad and I shared the Crispy Taco Dinner. Hubby had the Mariscada soup and Tropical Salad with shrimp. I had a bite of the lobster tail and the ginormous shrimp. Yum! Unfortunately, we didn't have room for the churros, which is fantastic. Kelly was a great server, very attentive. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Was from out of town and familiar with Gloria's in San Antonio but not in Dallas. Went with family to Dallas location and immediately greeted friendly, seated at a table together without difficulty. Menu had large variety, and order was correct with seven of us, refills were generous, and server was very attentive to all tables and clearing empty dishes. Food was served hot, fresh ingredients! Location is handy in North Dallas area and the restaurant is clean and fresh appearing. Need to make this a stop on your travel or on dining plans.

Yelp
Very clean, organized and calm ambiance. They were 3 hostess welcoming my wife and I when we walk in. Immediately we were noticing how the decorative walls and colors around the entire restaurant. Tables separated at a great distance for more privacy. Server was very attentive, We ordered the mix fajita for two. At the beginning they mistakenly gave us just shrimp, but then they corrected the order and everything tasted delicious. Service is excellent. This is a really 10 stars restaurant.

Yelp
What a beautiful restaurant! It is just so aesthetically pleasing inside. I love it! The food was okay! The ceviche is great. I got the Gloria's Special and the pork papusa was a little hard to cut through and not much meat. Didn't seem fresh. At other places there is usually a sauce that goes with fried yucca but there was not here and the yucca portion was so small. The flavor didn't really stand out. Pretty average. The service was great and drinks are yummy! Makes a great date night or girls night

Yelp
Decided to try something new. Fairly new restaurant at the Rim. Not to be confused with the local La Gloria's. Upon arrival, greeted and seated promptly. Arrived approximately 630 on a Saturday. Way too early for the live entertainment. The casual atmosphere with Latin music playing certainly gets you in the mood. Waitress was helpful, patient, bilingual & attentive. We started off with drinks, the drinks here are good. Drinks here are good, along with the tostadas and cheese dip. The chips are served with chili & bean dip which was pretty good. Definitely the spot for happy hour drinks. Decided on the chicken mole enchiladas. Presentation was amazing, beautiful facade to disappointment. Chicken was dry & the sauce tasted as though the cinnamon bottle fell in. Way too much cinnamon in the mole. Rice, nice and fluffy, yet bland. The black beans were not bad. Would return for appetizers & drinks only.

Yelp
Food was good and the place has such a nice vibe. I went there on a sister date, I would definitely recommend for a date date.

Yelp
Finally, another Mexican restaurant that doesn't taste like Tex-Mex. Took 5 people there today. The service was great. Very nice waitress. The food was delicious. The overall prices were ridiculously low. The margaritas were priced very decent. I got the Chimichunga burrito with rice and beans. Was $11.00. Try getting that at another restaurant. They had a choice between lunch or dinner prices.

Yelp
Ambiance is a hugeee wow factor. To the bubble tank and chihuly glass piece when you walk in. The bar and friendly demeanor of the bartenders will draw you in. Once seated you are surrounded in this modern Mexican decor. Chips, salsa, and beans will keep coming out! The menu is moderate in length and a huge plus is a whole vegetarian menu. Don't forget about the tasty alcoholic beverages and nonalcoholic. The food had good presentations. The flavors went well together but some items were a miss. Overall, a good place! Recommend!

Yelp
Went here with my family and was definitely a great experience. I haven't been to Gloria's since 2021 (and I've never been to this location). Our server was great and the managers were active and making sure everything was great with us. Per usual the chips, salsa and bean dip were superb! THAT BEAN DIP is next level to me. It's addicting I can continuously eat it. I had the brisket quesadilla and DELICIOUS. I also had the house margarita and it was delicious as well. I'll go back. For sure!

Yelp
Very friendly service. It was a bit loud to have a conversation. Food was good and came out quickly. Pleasant atmosphere and very clean.

Yelp
With Tex-Mex spots on every corner in San Antonio, Gloria's Latin Cuisine is like a refreshing breeze of authentic Latin flavor spicing things up with a taste of something truly special! Starting with bartenders last night, 12/20/24, who have perfected probably every cocktail on the menu but especially my favorite, Mexican Martini dressed with tajin and the best Mexican Candy shot I've ever had. They elevate chips and salsa to a new level of deliciousness, pairing the most vibrant, flavor-packed salsas with fried plantains and crispy fried yuca, yum!! As an entree, I ordered the Carne Asada, and was the BEST I've ever had, hands down! No kidding. Next time I'm stopping in for tapas since there are so many I want to try under Para Empezar. I can't leave without mentioning the modern vibe and a great spot for friends, Girls Night, or a date.

Yelp
After our original plans fell through, my work team's holiday dinner was moved to Gloria's. I had never been here before, so I was looking forward to checking it out. Since we were a large group, we had special seating towards the back of the restaurant adjacent to the bar area. The restaurant is still quite spacious, and has patio seating too. Our waiter came by for our drink order first. I choose their draft IPA, Voodoo Ranger, but they also had Modelo, Dos Equis, and Shiner. We were provided chips and salsa, and bean dip while we looked over the menu. I opted for the Churasco Tipico. After a short wait, our food was brought out. The sirloin was cooked perfectly. The beans were great, and the cilantro was a nice touch. The rice was okay. I liked the addition of the yuca and plantains. I thoroughly enjoyed everything on this plate. It was especially nice since the meal was on the company's dime. Another pleasant surprise was that the pints I ordered were only $5. This is less than most restaurants these days. I enjoyed our visit, and would definitely come back again.

Yelp
Give it a try! Honestly eating here was not planned, I came here after shopping on a Saturday and they were able to sit us asap. It was around 1pm and they were serving brunch... $3.50 mimosas (pomegranate, orange juice, and mango) nombreee I was super happy plus the food was actually delicious! The portions are no joke and the pricing is phenomenal. The service was fast and courteous. Someone from management (I assume) dropped by our table to check in and let us know about the nightlife ambiance at Gloria's: Latin music, live music, and dancing.

Sonia D.

Yelp
The managers here are terrible. I was missing a food item one time and I went to tell the manager and instead of replacing the item she told me she was going to check the security cameras. I ordered again yesterday after a long time hoping for better service. I ordered takeout and when I was about to walk out the door I noticed I was missing chips and salsa. I told the host and she told me to go find someone who could help me. Then I came home to open up my 18 dollar burrito and was met with minimal chicken and rice. I told the manager and instead of offering solutions and apologizing for his employee he decided to argue with me for ten minutes over the phone. Do not recommend this location!

Yelp
There are several options in the area but this one stood out. It seems this is a TX chain as they have locations around the state. The service seemed to me, friendly and thorough, and they also have time to check the menu, ask questions, etc. Gosh they have such a great menu it took us a while to decide what to order.. I opted for the Seafood Soup (Mariscos), and my +1 had the Churrasco with rice and beans and chimichurri. Both dishes were received rather promptly and hot. Super flavorful all around! We sat outside and thankfully the patio was covered, it made for a comfortable set up outside in the beautiful weather! Great menu, great service and reasonable prices. Check them out!!

Yelp
Gloria's is such a great place any time of day, any day of the week! I have been here for lunch, dinner, and work events. Their chips and salsa are fresh and delicious, and the black bean dip in one of my favorite things about Gloria's! The service was great, our server knew the menu and gave us good recommendations. She knew how to explain the items and how they are served which was a big help in deciding because I wanted everything! We went for lunch and got the chicken taquitos and the green chicken enchiladas. The taquitos were hot and fresh, very crispy, and I love the sauce they serve them with. My husband got the enchiladas and they were excellent! The only complaint was that the chicken was a bit overcooked but not enough to take a star away. If you dine inside it can be a more on the dim side so if you need more light when you eat request sitting near a window or outdoors. They have a full bar with bar seating are great for special events. The lunch portions were perfect, had I gotten an appetizer I would've probably been way too full. OH, and their margaritas are amazing!

Rob Z.

Yelp
Have been here before, great staff and service. Meal this time was a 5 out of 10. Ordered my steak at medium rare and it was almost blue. The overall flavors were lacking compared to what I remember.

Yelp
If you like good food then you already know about this place. Came here after a movie at Santikos and my boyfriend loved the food so much, he can't wait to come back. It was his first time at Gloria's and now he's a sucker for the black bean dip. I was the same way my first time here, so I can't even blame him lol. The mojitos and swirl margaritas are some of my favorite things about Gloria's. After way too many chips and salsa, we both ordered the Enchilada Combo. The chicken was tender and the sauces on top were all pretty good. I've been here so many times that I've tried a lot of things on the menu, yet every time I come, it takes a minute for me to decide. Everything is just so good! I've never been disappointed at Gloria's and this location is no different. Lots of parking nearby, but depending on how busy it is, might take a while to find. I suggest parking at Santikos and walking over.
google avatar

Celeste C.

Yelp
We absolutely love Gloria's!!! My husband who is Salvadoran was looking for a place that made pupusas. He's tried other places in San Antonio and he always says Gloria's is the BEST!!! The cheese one is so good and perfectly cooked. We've had other things on the menu but keep coming back just for the pupusas. We've only eaten inside the restaurant once which is nice and clean and the service is great but we normally just do take out since it's always busy here. Highly recommend ordering the cheese pupusas or the chicharrón ones.

Yelp
Long term customer. Service has went down hill, they use to have a happy hour on Sunday and now have taken it away to make more $$! Recently, we went in for happy hour bottle of wine on Sunday, our server was fighting us that there was no happy hour on Sundays anymore. After telling her that there is a sign outside staying on Sunday wine bottles were half price, she gave us attitude and said the manager was okay with giving it to us at half price. How is that possible if you advertise happy hour for bottle of wine on outside placard? Bait and switch???? Our bar server never came back to check on us after we challenged her. I've notice they lost a lot of customers..
google avatar

Trevor L.

Yelp
Nice ambiance with the lighting and fire place. Could actually be a nice date night spot. The employees were friendly and courteous. There is an outdoor dining area that's covered for the cooler evenings and open for warming temperatures. As my friend described, a upscale Mexican restaurant. I'll be back for sure. The food was pretty tasty overall. Check it out!
google avatar

Gabriel K.

Yelp
Ambiance: 5 Service: 5 Food: 5 Drinks: 5 So much better than the dated and uninspired Tex-mex of San Antonio. Try their margaritas with a shot of tequila on top and order the a la Mexicana dish. Enjoy!
google avatar

Nakita C.

Yelp
This is hands down one of my go to places! Last year we moved to Virginia and had our going away dinner here and then we just came back home for a visit we had our get together dinner here again. This place is beautiful all around, the music and aesthetic are perfect. Never a let down here from the complimentary bean dip, salsa, and chips to the drinks! We had a party of 8 and had a 10 minute wait for the table on a Tuesday, not bad at all. We were serviced right away with drinks and all. Everyone LOVED there food and the drinks untouchable with their all day Happy Hour. My favorite is the skirt steak quesadilla with a margarita, trust me you need to give them a try.

Betty C.

Yelp
Excellent great service, nice staff, excellent food and drinks, friendly and safe ambiance, great to celebrate birthdays, weddings and anniversaries

Kenny L.

Yelp
I've tried several of their dishes, and never been disappointed. You definitely want to try their house margarita.
google avatar

Florence A.

Yelp
Came here for a Bachelorette dinner. Very nice interior. This place turns into a club/latin dance area after dinner hours. Dinner Entree was good. I got the carne asada plate. Steak was cooked to perfection. The rice was okay. I loved the platano and yuca fries. So delicious. I also ordered the ceviche trio, i loved two of the three, felt like one of them was a bit too fishy and was missing some flavor the plantain chips were a bit stale for me and a bit hard to chew, I'd prefer the tortilla chips for my ceviche next time. I ordered two strawberry mojitos because they were that good. Service was excellent, our waiter was attentive, and definitely on it with refilling our drinks. He kept em coming! I'd recommend this place to anyone for good food and a fun night out right after. The live music here was awesome! Sound system was great! I'm giving 5 stars because we all had a great time from start to finish. Love the convenience of having a nice dinner and coming right back for dancing!
google avatar

Valentina C.

Yelp
Went twice. Once food and drinks were ok, staff a bit too busy to replenish drinks. The second time, I got food poisoning... Never going back.
google avatar

Blayne R.

Yelp
An elegant yet modern setting with a great wait-staff. I was very impressed with Gloria's when I dined there with my wife yesterday. The food was very good and I appreciated the excellent cuts of meat. I ordered the Carne Flameada, and my wife got a sirloin steak. The appetizer tamales were also great. So... why 4 stars? The cocktails were very unbalanced. I ordered an Old Fashioned that was basically whisky with a splash of sweetener and a cherry. My wife's sangria tasted like it was mixed with vodka. We sent her drink back for a house margarita, but this tasted more like straight tequila. For the prices one pays for cocktails in this environment, one should expect more balance and less like a dive bar. I would say to go for the food but pass on mixed drinks.
google avatar

Tricia G.

Yelp
Took some family to Gloria's Latin Cuisine to celebrate my son's birthday. Kelly took great care of us. I enjoyed their chips, light and crispy. The offerings with the chips were a very mild salsa and a black bean dip. They were both delicious. We tried several of the apps and really enjoyed the queso flameado. The food was full of flavor and the 2 favorite dishes at the table were the Red Snapper and the ALa Mexicana plate. I also enjoyed the Spicy cucumber margarita. Definitely refreshing and if you ate the jalapeno, there was some spice. The restaurant itself is very beautiful. I read that they have dancing late Saturday nights. Pretty sure our table was on what turns into a dance floor. I loved that the menu wasn't only Tex Mex, giving some options in the Latin Cuisine that us here in San Antonio don't see very many places. Definitely worth trying and upscale enough to make a special date night without breaking the bank.
google avatar

Demetrica J.

Yelp
I love this restaurant, but I'm not a fan of the location. It's super congested. But the food and service has never disappointed Me one time. I don't remember the name of the bartender but they were awesome! The best Old Fashion I have had in a long time and great top shelf selection. The atmosphere is always a vibe for me. I do recommend this establishment if you don't mind the congestion of La Cantera.
google avatar

Marcos D.

Yelp
Very stylish Mexican establishment at the Rim. The interior is very modern and sleek. There is a happy hour as well. Both times I've been here I've had the sopa de pollo and it's been excellent. The soup has a hearty broth, lot's of veggies, rice and a good helping of perfectly prepared shredded chicken breast. The chicken fajitas were well done as well.
google avatar

Carolyn J.

Yelp
5 Stars all the way for flavor, taste, presentation service and drinks! This is the best food I've ever eaten - El Salvadorian! So delicious. I was so pleased when friends of mine introduced me to this wonderful place. Dress Code at night - turns into a night club. Lunch and dinner served and you will be back. Great service, perfect food - absolutely cooked to perfection. Real chips not fake. Do not confuse this with LaGloria- it is totally different and worth your visit!
google avatar

Morgan M.

Yelp
First time here. They have a really nice menu. The decor was good. The tables are spaced out. I met a girlfriend here for lunch on a Thursday. They have all day happy hour! My girlfriend got a Mexican food off the menu. I felt like a salad and this salmon salad seemed like the right choice. It was fantastic. It had a chimichurri dressing that was really good. Pistachio's and feta with pickled onions. So good on a summer day. I definitely will be back. Service was good. Price point was great.
google avatar

Meri M.

Yelp
I still give Gloria's 5 stars. We come here often because the food and service are consistently good. My kids cannot get enough of the black bean dip. It is delicious! My favorite is the Salmon Costeno. The sautéed vegetables are always great. Other entrees we like are the nachos, Carne Asada, and anything with a pupusa or tamale. I haven't had a bad dish here. The restaurant feels upscale, but the prices are reasonable. The quality of the food is high.

Humphrey D.

Yelp
The chicken soup is the BEST! You have to try this dish. The service was excellent and the attention to detail was amazing.
google avatar

Connie H.

Yelp
Sorry Gloria's, had to give this location a 3 for stale chips, forgetting plantains on one of the orders and the super spicy salsa that I normally have in Austin was off. However, the tamales and black bean dip rescued the appetizer round and my steak was done medium rare as requested! A couple of people had the sour cream enchiladas and was pleased.
google avatar

Erika B.

Yelp
Service is always great and the have the best salmon plate I've ever had! It's not on the menu, but ask for the "Serrano Salmon" it's delicious and not spicy at all.
google avatar

Andrew C.

Yelp
I've been going to Gloria's ever since I could remember being as I grew up near the Southlake location. It's always been a spot we would stop by which consistently provided us with great service. It's a very nice restaurant for being a chain. We ended up going on a Saturday night and it didn't disappoint. The service was a bit slow but I get it, it's Saturday. Had the Molé enchiladas and the green enchiladas. Both were very good. The rice was tasty as well. Tried a Paloma and the wife had a spicy marg. Very impressed with the drinks as they were fresh and strong. The Flan was killer as well. Large portion and reminded me of authentic Mexican Flan. We also tried the Trea Leches cake but we could tell it was previously frozen. If you're ever wanting decent Mexican food and you're with a indecisive group, go here.

Jeff H.

Yelp
We came to celebrate a birthday and have some tex Mex food. The dinning area was a little loud and cool. We all ordered different plates and were pleased with the taste of our orders. My combination plate was just right and cooked perfectly. Chips and salsa were very tasty as well. Our waitress did a fine job.

Yelp
We visited Gloria's on a Friday evening. The wait was 25 minutes when we put our name in. We waited 45 minutes in the lobby while seeing parties come and go. It seems this place on caters to parties. When I finally went back up to the host stand to check the status of our table the hostess informed me they were waiting on menus... I've never had a restaurant tell me they couldn't seat us because of a shortage in menus. I told her we didn't need a menu at that point we had already checked the menu out online. She walked us to our seat after passing multiple empty tables with menus on them, we were sat at a dirty table. We asked to get the table wiped down or moved to another table which they did allow us to do. But made sure to mention a party would be seated next to us. Again, making me think they only cater to parties. Our drinks were great! We ordered queso which came out 25 minutes later with our meal. And our food was good but cold after the waiter informed us the kitchen was backed up. Overall I wasn't pleased.
