Google
Today was my first experience with Salvadoran food, and my first time at Gloria's Pupuseria. I absolutely loved it! They have a large selection of kinds of pupusas, their jalapeño sauce was delicious, and top each bite with a little bit of their curtido (slaw)... ¡Delicioso! The place had really nice atmosphere, the staff was informative and very welcoming, and I loved the artwork on the walls. I highly recommend this place, and I will definitely be going back!!

Google
The best pupusas I’ve had in VA, period. I always have to go to MD, so it’s nice to know there is another one I can visit instead. I only want to return to Staunton for these pupusas. We ordered revueltas y queso con loroco with harina de maíz, revueltas with harina de arroz, horchata, and platanos fritos con crema. Everything was delicious, hot, and fresh! I love pupusas so much, I have them tattooed - main reason is I grew up with them since I’m Salvadoran.

Google
Affordable, cute Salvadoran restaurant. I have never had pupusas in my life but I loved them! Cheesy and homey, better than arepas for sure!!!! You can really taste the corn in everything. Their enslada drink was also super refreshing and delicious.

Jasmine Rain

Google
Recommend: Ensalada drink ($3.50), chips and queso $7.25 with chorizo mixed in(+$1.25), fish tacos ($13.99), and Tres Leches cake ($5.99) Loroco pupusa ($4.00--flower tastes like asparagus) Birria Tacos (11.99--ancho chili sauce is outstanding in flavor. great for dipping) *the Lunch specials are dine-in only*

Google
Tried this gem of a restaurant a few weeks ago. The owners were part of the NoVa restaurant scene years ago, and I had heard good things about their place in Staunton. Wow, what an amazing experience. Right off the bat, I noticed the ambiance, which is very welcoming and authentically Latin American. I felt right at home the moment I stepped in. Lot's to choose from on the menu. I sampled the grilled chicken salad and a tasty michelada. I posted a pic of the salad rather than use mere words to describe the amazing blend of flavors and textures. The michelada, a traditional Mexican bev, is a combo of beer, lime juice, spices and an assortment of peppers served in a tall glass rimmed with tajin. Posted a pic, too, of this refreshing drink. Sandra, my server, what can I say? Anyone who can switch between English, Spanish and understand my banged up Spanglish gets an A+ in my book. Plus her service was flawless. Do yourselves a favor and stop by Gloria's.

Google
My Wife and I just dropped in for carryout, google said it was mostly gluten-free so why not try it. I wish I lived closer, the food is fresh and the kitchen is immaculate, service was excellent and the papusas were amazing! A++++ and we will be back as soon as possible. Thank You!!!

Google
Holy heck. The BEST pupusas I have ever had. Super authentic and homemade tasting. The traditional slaw is the perfect complement. What more could you want?? The place is clean and nice inside too! Fantastic spot.

Google
Gloria’s is our family’s “go to” place to eat in town. We’re lucky to have such a welcoming and affordable restaurant in our town, especially one the whole family agrees upon. Obviously the pupusas are a hit in so many varieties, but they also serve other authentic dishes you’d love. Skip the chain dining and visit Gloria’s - where you can actually chat with Gloria (and John) while getting a great meal. We just love this place and these people.

Yelp
Gloria's has some of the best food in Staunton! I eat here almost every week, it's that good! Both drinks and food are top tier!

Colleen R.

Yelp
Incredible food and friendly service. The other high reviews are well deserved! The prices are reasonable too!

Yelp
Great spot, great outdoor patio, and great food. First time visiting the area and this place came up as a highly rated spot....so we went for it. It was a Friday night and arrived around 6PM and were lucky enough to grab one of the last tables outside. We started with chips and guac ($7) and my bride ordered the Pollo Guisado ($14) and I went with the Enchiladas ($12) and we seemingly ordered well....because we enjoyed it all! Service from Andrea was super friendly and prompt.

Yelp
Salvadoreña on a road trip through Virginia stopped at this place after seeing the reviews on yelp. The service was great. The tables looked very clean. We ordered revueltas, queso y loroco, vegetarian and bean pupusas. The pupusas were tasty but not the best pupusas I've ever had. In my opinion the ensalada drink could have more fruit and flavor. The horchata was delicious, you could taste the morro and cinnamon. The pastelitos were a total let down. I only liked the beef one. I wouldn't order them again. As a salvadoreña, I was impressed at how many white people were eating during lunch time.

Yelp
Excellent food, drink and staff. Lovely outdoor area. Frequently drive an hour to enjoy!

Yelp
Yum, this place is so good! I am staying up the street, arrived on Monday, but had to wait until tonight (Wed) to try their food because they are closed on M-T. There is parking in a lot alongside the restaurant. I walked in to place a carryout order, but I sat at their cute bar and enjoyed a beer while my food was being prepared. The bartender was friendly, and he handled the carryout orders. I ordered two pupusas (one chicken and one revuelta) plus a tamale. The ultimate comfort food. I ate half and have enough for another meal tomorrow. Delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
Best place for lunch in Staunton! The food is always consistent and delicious. Prices are great. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Gloria makes the best pupusas I've ever had.

Yelp
My entire family loves this place. We've been coming here many years. In this new location since Staunton had a flood a few years ago. Location is great with ample parking. There's a patio that's great on spring days and summer nights. Service is always on point if you're dining in or picking up takeout. It feels like a place that cares about you being there. The food is spectacular. From the papusas, to the tacos, to the papas loca. Support local. Eat here!

Beth-Anne W.

Yelp
The food here was incredible! Hot and delicious. The server was attentive and made sure that we enjoyed the food. The inside was clean and bright, and the outside was where we ended up eating

Yelp
The setup is a little odd, because there is a food truck, but it was sitting outside a brick and mortar store where my pupusas actually came from, with a few picnic tables set up nearby. Regardless of how they come about, though, they are good pupusas. I ordered online late in the day, and quickly received a call to confirm my particular dietary needs. They had plenty of vegetarian options and a vegan pupusa as well, which is pretty good. The horchata I got was a hit of flavor, definitely very sweet but there was more than sugar and cinnamon. The pupusas which I ate later (not much was open over the holidays so I got them to eat as leftovers) delivered flavor comparable to any number of pupusa places I've been in more urban areas. Deliciously grilled corn exteriors, hearty beans, rich cheese, a bit of bitter contrast from the loroco (an edible flower bud). If you're not familiar with this sort of food, you're getting a quality introduction here. If you are familiar, fear not, Staunton is a big enough town to house at least one legit pupuseria.

Yelp
They have excellent pupusas here, the green sauce they serve is new to me but they changed the entire game with it.
google avatar

Sterling G.

Yelp
Really great tacos and pupuserisa. Has outdoor seating that is dog friendly. Has beer, wine, and margaritas. Lots of options. Service was friendly. Nice decor.

Leslie S.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant in Staunton! I order takeout all the time and it's super easy to order on their website or call in. Everything is really good but my favorite is the pupusas. Plus I have a gluten allergy and have never had an issue after dining or ordering takeout. Smooth sailing!
google avatar

Lauren H.

Yelp
Gloria's pupusas are the only ones I know. It took me a time or two before I guess I really acquired the taste for them but now I love them! Their enchiladas are open-faced and a bit messy (ie very crunchy) but also so so good. I highly recommend the verde sauce drizzled over everything if you're okay with some heat.
google avatar

Deb D.

Yelp
Excellent service. Wonderful outdoor searing. Great guacamole. Yummy margaritas. The food was fresh and great. Packed on a Tuesday night, so you know it's good.
google avatar

Troy M.

Yelp
The food is pretty amazing. My wife thought the ceviche was the best she has ever had and the pupusas really good and authentic

Jorge M.

Yelp
Stopped by a few weekends ago on my way back to NoVa after helping my goddaughter settle in for her freshman year at school. Late lunch, around 3:00, and the vibe was super chill. Really authentic interior layout and decoration. You could be anywhere from Oaxaca, Mexico to Cochabamba, Bolivia. Very relaxing. Ordered a michelada and A La Plancha Chicken Salad. Absolutely phenomenal. You really need to treat yourself and put Gloria's Pupuseria on at the top of your list. Oh, by the way, Sandra, my server was perfect. And she gets extra points for switching effortlessly between English and Spanish (and my awkward Spanglish). My highest recommendation!
google avatar

Tom H.

Yelp
Don't stick with was just one thing to order... We recommend ordering many of the little items like the pastels, tamale, the pupusa's, don't forget the Horchata it's Salvadoran and really really good! Our server was great. Her name was Sandra... Great environment we will be back!
google avatar

Brett G.

Yelp
It was such a blessing to find Gloria's on the map when we decided to stay in Staunton!!! I've been to El Salvador eight times and know what good papusas should taste like. I've tried them in several papusarias in the U.S. and these have been the best I've ever had without having to fly to El Salvador! Plus Gloria and John are such a sweet and awesome couple! So make sure you put this restaurant on your list of places to eat in Staunton!
google avatar

Tresa W.

Yelp
Love this place. ask for Corey. He is awesome. Great personality. I come from Raleigh North Carolina to visit my daughter who recently moved here and this is one of our favorite go to places. The drinks are made amazingly and the staff is always super friendly and helpful. Outside seating when the weather is nice. Absolutely love the pupusa's. We get the vegan even though we are not vegan. It is absolutely phenomenal. we suggest you take the little salad that comes with your pupusa and throw it on top and then add the salsa's hot sauces on top. Absolutely amazing and their tamales are phenomenal.

Yelp
This place is an experience of El Salvador from here in Staunton. The authentic food is top notch and is made with love! The environment is very welcoming. The wait staff are all very professional and friendly, the open kitchen sends the aroma of deliciousness throughout the restaurant. Bar service is exceptional and the owners are very passionate and grateful for their customers, they make you feel like family. 10/10 would recommend!

Yelp
In town and tried takeout from here. I ordered the loca pupusa, horchata, fried yuca, tamales con pollo, and veggies enchiladas, and tres leches for dessert. Everything was delicious, especially the pupusa and horchata, those are definitely what I would recommend to anyone that goes here! Atmosphere is very cute and spacious, great for friends or family!
google avatar

Echo L.

Yelp
You don't have to break your wallet for amazing food here! I had loca pupusa, and i was not disappointed at all. The pupusa was served hot, and the melting cheese together with the meat fillings inside of the pupusa was heavenly. The fried plantains was different from what I expected. It's not the dry and crispy type. They are thick cut plantains and taste great too. There are tables and seats nearby the food trucks (so you don't have to eat in your car) I would come again for this amazing food
google avatar

Kara D.

Yelp
FANTASTIC! Our server, Deborah, was awesome, perfect amount of enthusiasm. She was so nice to my dogs! Food was amazing. Had various pupusas and the terrific burria tacos. Highly recommend supporting this local business.

Yelp
While I'm down town Staunton we heard that this place had good food and was celiac friendly. We drove over to the food truck as the sun was out and it was a little distance from the Main Street, but walkable. There was plenty of parking both next to the food truck/storefront and across the street. Prices seemed reasonable for a food truck. Food was good, not mind blowing but good. My biggest complaint was the yuka portion size for $4 was a bit ridiculous being all of 5/6 small pieces. The shrimp pupusa was tasted more like tuna, was expecting chopped up whole shrimp inside. The chicken and chorizo pupusa was okay. The wait was a bit long, 30+ minutes, luckily there was a picnic bench with an umbrella that wasn't being used. To be fair, there was a good amount of people here and it was a holiday weekend. Being gluten free that was a major plus for our visit.
google avatar

Julie G.

Yelp
Wow. Definitely make your way here if you can. What a gem - a special treat for your tastebuds. We got zucchini pupusas and plantains - sauces are divine too!!!

Rebecca F.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch after many recommendations from Reddit. Service was great and the menu is small but mighty. My dining partner lived in El Salvador for a year and he felt like he was back in San Salvador once we got our food. The refried bean pupusa was my favorite but we also enjoyed the loca and the chorizo. I left my sunglasses there and the manager was extremely helpful and even offered to ship them since we were from out of town.

D M.

Yelp
Food was fantastic. I was not as hungry as I should have been to eat so I ordered the Birria Tacos - 3 slow cooked tender beef tacos served on corn tortillas with ancho chilli sauce, onions, cilantro and lime. All I can say is that it was the best Tacos I think I've every had - the tender beef was so full of wonderful flavor. By the way - ask for Grant to be your server. He is excellent. And the ambiance was also fantastic. A great place to have a date.

Bibb F.

Yelp
Friendly staff. EXCELLENT Maragaritas Best Grilled Chicken /Salad in Staunton. Good menu choices. SO MUCH MORE than heavy fried Pupusas... but those are good, too.
google avatar

Christopher K.

Yelp
This place is amazing!! Slightly expensive, but worth it!! I felt like I was in El Salvador again!!!

Sandra D.

Yelp
Oh my God, this place was delicious! The yoga was absolutely perfect. Crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Pupusa were amazing.

Chris ..

Yelp
Walkable from the Park and neighborhood and around town. First time and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Fresh, delicious, and learned a bit about the cuisine. Will be back without a doubt and highly recommend. Servers are also fantastic. Nice atmosphere as well.
google avatar

Yelp
The first time trying Gloria's Pupuseria was today and I loved it. I got a chicken and a bean and cheese pupusa with a side of rice and everything was fantastic. I do wish I tasted a little more cheese in the bean and cheese one but it was still yummy. I am a HUGE rice girl and their rice was amazing. The red and green sauce it comes with too is delicious. Highly recommend dipping it in both. If it wasn't an hour away from where I live I would probably go more, but for the meantime I definitely will stop by when I'm in town.
google avatar

Bobby S.

Yelp
THE TRES LECHE CAKE IS AMAZING. You seriously need to try it. Tried several papusa flavors as well. Hubby & I's fav was still just the queso / cheese. Really enjoyed the tamarindo fresco drink!
google avatar

Jay T.

Yelp
So we literally walked about 1.5 miles from town to get here, and it's basically uphill all the way. Totally worth it, and burninating extra calories means we can eat more, right? But there's also plenty of parking if you wanna drive. Pupusas are cheaper in piles of 3, so we got 3 Pupusas Locas, stuffed with chicharon, chicken, beans, cheese, and vegetables, and 3 Pupusas Jalapeños, stuffed with cheese and their eponymous peppers. A side order of Yuca Frita and dos Horchatas rounded out our supper. The pupusas were all fresh, hot, and delicious! The flavours of the Locas were rich and complex without being too much. The jalapeños were bright and brash against the comforting creaminess of the cheese. Both came with curtido- the El Salvadoran version of sauerkraut or kimchi. It was about the best I've had. The yuca was crisp and starchy, and the horchata was cool and sweet. Altogether, before tip, this anniversary feast came to $35! Not bad for the quality and quantity of delicious food we got! I highly recommend a stop at Gloria's if you're hungry in Staunton!
google avatar

Jess F.

Yelp
Stopped here to pickup dinner as I was in town for the night. Plenty of parking and easy to find this little gem! I ordered the pupusa combo- my favorite was the jalapeño! So tasty with the slaw and verde! My order was ready quickly and packed well- still got after a 20 minute drive to my airbnb! I'll definitely be back when I'm in town.
google avatar

Heather D.

Yelp
Only been here so far for drinks but they are delicious and refreshing!!!! They're outside seating is so nice and it's gorgeous inside! Cannot wait to go back and try some tamales!

Da B.

Yelp
My grandmother from El Salvador would have been upset to be served the pupusas's we had. We tried two kinds and both were depressing. They should have had beans, meat, and cheese in them and I could barely find any ingredient. I had whole sections where I only ate masa. Over priced masa patties!! They should come stuff with your chosen ingredients. Shameful!!

Raquel C.

Yelp
I ordered three pupusas: chicharrón, queso, and veggies: delicious, fresh, and served hot with the tasty curtido. We were greeted, seated right away, and promptly served. I was visiting the area and wanted something to eat different from others great dinners available. Gloria's did not fail to deliver good quality food, therefore, it is a must for a good price. The fried yuca with the chicharrón was delicious; try with with the sauce, it's very good. The ambience also added to having a good dinning experience.
google avatar

Scott Y.

Yelp
Tried this because of the close location. We really enjoyed the tasty & healthy food! Carne guisada was tender and delicious! Favorite was the curtido (lightly pickled cabbage mixed with onions and carrots). We fell in love with the bright wall paintings that tell the story of how this came to be and talking with Gloria herself! Would be worth going out of your way to try this gem.

Ana E.

Yelp
We went to this place during a road trip. It was clean, delicious, and fairly priced. The service was also great!

Yelp
After a long 10 hour day of driving, we stopped in Staunton for the night. As soon as we checked in to our room, we realized that this place closed in an hour. ACK!!! We'd spent some time perusing dinner options during the drive for something different that is reasonably priced so we did NOT want to miss it! Rather than crash immediately we drove straight there! It's a small location with lots of unique flair. We were greeted immediately by John, who I think is one of the owners. He was very helpful and patient through the entire process of our meal selection. We ordered two orders of the Loco Pupuseria one mild and one medium because I wasn't sure about the "really" hot sauce. We also ordered a tamale and some plantains. I'm not a fan of plaintains, but my husband devoured them. He said they were awesome. The tamale was huge and flavorful. The Pupuseria? Holy mother of all that is holy... they were fanfreakingtastic!!! John brought over some of the "really" hot sauce for us just to try. I put a little on the Pupuseria to try it, and I must admit it brought it to an entirely different level! I'm from Louisiana so to me it really is quite mild. I told John I could drink it. lol. Seriously, try some of it, it is fantastic. We were asked several times if we were happy with our meal. The really seem to care. Give this small sole proprietor restaurant a try. If you are wanting something totally different give them a try. If we are ever in the area again, we will definitely go again. I wish there was something like it in Baton Rouge! Great food, great prices...what are you waiting for?? Go see them. Don't let this little gem get away!!

Wendy M.

Yelp
Yum I could eat Gloria's pupusas every day! bean and cheese and chicken are my favorites, my husband likes the shrimp. Also what is Christmas without tamales?
google avatar

Kirsten A.

Yelp
This place is such a gem!! We came with some friends around 7 on a Friday night and the place was packed. Luckily, we were able to get a table pretty quickly. Our group started with the guacamole which was delicious and then we each got some pupusas. The menu recommends 2-3 but 2 was honestly the perfect amount. Make sure you try both the red and green sauce on the pupusas! It was a great value and clearly delicious, considering I didn't even manage to get a photo of our food before we were done!

Walter B.

Yelp
Rumor has it that Gloria's started off as a cart that grew into a food truck before finding a casual brick and mortar home. A visit to the latter featuring El Salvadorian food, is well worth while. We went for lunch on Saturday. We were greeted promptly and offered the choice of dining inside or out. The service was great and the place was clean (including the restroom). The food was also good, albeit with mixed degrees of flavor. For example, the eponymous pupusa, a thick griddle cake or flatbread made with cornmeal or rice flour, similar to the Colombian and Venezuelan arepa, was terrific. In El Salvador, it has been declared the national dish and has a specific day to celebrate it and Gloria's shows you why that is so. The in-house tortilla chips and guacamole were a delight. A side of cooked papayas and another of fried yucca also did not disappoint. The red beans and rice (casamiento), on the other hand, was bland and lacked seasoning as did, remarkably, the red salsa sauce! A bottle of green salsa arrived at the table mid-meal and that condiment's fiery flavor added a lot to the mix. All in all, I would recommend Gloria's and especially those dishes recommended by the wait staff.
google avatar

Craig M.

Yelp
First time there and first time having pupusa. The taste was great but I was expecting them to be filled a little more. The sauces they served with the meal were great. Service was wonderful and the restaurant was lively and upbeat. Will definitely try again.

Stacey M.

Yelp
Amazing food, great drink selection and nice staff. Prices are reasonable. Gloria's is a local treasure.

Ron K.

Yelp
We drove from Roanoke, Va to try their pupusa and enjoy downtown Staunton. My wife's family are from El Salvador and had heard about this place. First off, very clean establishment. The greeter and server were prompt in greeting and seating us. We had a few drinks and tried a different variety of papusas. They were fantastic, and comparable to my mother-in-law's. Fresh, hot and just wonderful. Loved this place.
