A Market Named Market Is Opening in the Italian Market | Eater Philly

"At 126 Chestnut Street, Dave Crudele — formerly of Eulogy Belgian Tavern — plans Glory Beer Bar and Kitchen with roughly 36 beers on tap, over 100 bottles, long communal tables, and a meat-heavy pub-fare menu." - Rachel Vigoda

We came on a dreary Sunday. The tables were empty, but the bar was near full. We were seated quickly. Our server was friendly, efficient and helpful. They have a huge beer selection and she helped us find a good match for our tastes. The food menu is somewhat limited. With there were other choices. The burgers and salad were great though. Only negative is that the bathroom is down a flight of stairs. We enjoyed the food, great music playing and beer.

It has a lively atmosphere that’s perfect for watching sports together. The onion soup was served a bit lukewarm, but the beer here is outstanding. I especially recommend the Blueberry Blonde—it’s a must-try!

Google
The steak frites meal was solid and the staff here were super friendly. Lots of TVs playing sports and records played on a record player behind the bar which creates a cool vibe. On a street full of other restaurants, but glad I checked this one out. Short walk from Penn's Landing as well if you're staying in that area.

Google
Cool vibe. Laid back place with great food and beverages. Got the steak frites. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Fries were equally well cooked and seasoned. Don't sleep on a Denver steak. This cut was beefy, tender, no complaints. Spinach with garlic, with the steak was a really good bite. A bit of the chimichuri offsets the bite with a punch of acid to complement the rest of the plate. Throughly enjoyed the plate. Service was great. Will be back.

If I lived in Philly, this would be my local. Staff very polite, engaging & attentive (but not overly so). Large selection of draught & bottled beers. Food was good & came exactly how I ordered. Large screens above bar to watch sports that are muted so you can listen to an eclectic selection of vinyl records. (Adam & The Ants, Supertramp, The The, The Clash etc)

Went to Glory with a large group. We made a reservation and were quickly seated and served. The Glory team was friendly, patient, and very knowledgeable to guide us through the drink and food menu. Drinks were brought quickly and the food was absolutely delicious. I would make a point of coming back if ever in Old Town again.

I am more than eager to write the best review for Dave, Glory Beer Bar, and the team that helped make my rehearsal dinner/welcome party an absolute hit. Food, staff, ambience, all impeccable. My now-husband and I are from different coasts and had many people traveling in to Philadelphia for our wedding. We needed to find venue that could accommodate a dinner, plus a welcome party for the traveling guests. The upstairs private area of Glory is literally PERFECT for this. You can dress the room up or down as much as you want; you make it what you want. We also got to create custom menu with Dave (some items from the restaurant menu, some we established together off-menu). The whole experience was whatever I wanted it to be and that's what makes it so fun and awesome. Most importantly, Dave, the owner, is a good person. Amazing to work with. Although I'm not local, I'll drink a beer at his bar any day I'm in town. If you are a bride looking for a dinner/welcome party venue in Old City, look no further. This is it.

Google
This place is spectacular. The food and service are both wonderful. I was there with my grandsons, one wanted orange juice and the other lemon juice. They made it fresh: squeezed the fruit. I had a mac and cheese appetizer that was obviously handmade. We also had a salad, and the balance between the parts was amazing. This was not someone throwing ingredients together from a recipe, it was someone making and tasting and getting it right. I would recommend this to anyone.

Yelp
Stopped here with some friends as our first stop on the Brews and Clues tour. Got the sour peach, it was really great! Friends got some beers which they enjoyed. The service was great, really attentive staff.

Yelp
We stopped here for lunch and immediately loved the funky vibe in a historic building. The food was delicious - my husband liked his pork belly sandwich + salad, and my kids deemed the Mac'n' cheese the best they've ever had (it was pretty frickin' delicious). Unfortunately not much in the way of protein options for vegetarians - though they do have some veggie friendly appetizers and salads. I opted for a salmon burger which was pretty decent (just not a big fish eater). The service was fantastic and the beer was cold and tasty, all in all a great stop! Shout out to Sally our server! She was great!
google avatar

Alexander P.

Yelp
The spicy chicken sandwich really did hit! Loved the renovated-yet-authentically-historic vibes. Please go ahead and try the the F.O.S... somewhere along the trajectory of human history, the art of the French onion crouton had died, but it is resurrected here at Glory. Glory really has a lot going for it -- namely it offers the unison of a great location (a quaint setting in an authentically-Philadelphian neighborhood) + excellent food for the price. If the Penn's Landing area picks back up with all of the new renovations, it Old City we get a breath of fresh life. Until then, Glory is just one of its under-appreciated secrets.

Yelp
My coworkers and I decided to go to Glory after an enthusiastic recommendation from a friend. As soon as we walked in, we immediately liked the vibe and thought this was a great recommendation. The service was second to none. Attentive, but not overbearing, and our glasses were never empty (water and wine). The food portions were generous, but not too much. My friends ordered salads and I ordered the cheese and salumi board. The small one was perfect for how hungry I was and the half carafe of wine was the perfect amount. All in all we really enjoyed our time at Glory and I will definitely be back when I'm back in Philly.

Yelp
Friendly and attentive service, lengthy beer list, tasty food. What more does one want?!? Wings were a fine starter and the Reuben was great. Thick-cut pastrami, not too much kraut & thousand island dressing & crispy bread for a satisfying crunch. The house saison was a winner & Ellen greatly enjoyed a can of Coastal Sunshine Smoothie Sour Ale. All-in-all, we'd come back.
google avatar

Tan P.

Yelp
The restaurant is casual and does not require reservations. I enjoyed the atmosphere because it was lively and had options to sit at the bar or get a table. The service was standard, was not too busy on a weeknight. The food looked promising from the menu's descriptions, but did not stand out as far as taste. I would only dine here again if it was convenient, but there are so many other tastier options in Philly.
google avatar

Matthew B.

Yelp
Here for a private event. Service food and atmosphere were all excellent. Great bar tending, no such thing as "no we can't make thst". Not sure about the every day downstairs, but the upstairs event space was a blast. Yeah, I pretty much like this place .

Yelp
Food -Wasn't too good.I didn't take my food with me.I left it Service - AMAZING/Nice people ,Even tho the food wasn't good I still tipped Ambiance -clean & loud Mac and cheese didn't have any flavor too it and the chili was bland Needs more love and seasoning.

Heather H.

Yelp
We felt so taken care of! The bathroom 10/10 fully stocked, you can get loud, their beer is great, food is great, and you can visit any time they're open and have an off the charts experience. Service is quick and attentive and everyone is hot. We love Glory Beer Bar & Kitchen

Yelp
This place is the perfect vibe for a delicious meal. We walked in and were seated immediately. Ordering the Octupus as an appetizer, it can out within 5 minutes. The beer was amazing, I had never had better. Finally, the food came out as swiftly as the appetizers. For 4 of us, the meal was AMAZING, and we all gobbled it up!!! This is 100% a place that we would go to, maybe just for a quick beer and great meal!!

Gary S.

Yelp
Hands down the best sandwich I have ever had in my life. I have eaten in this city for the last 35 years and I have never had anything better.
google avatar

Ilene S.

Yelp
Friendly staff offering good service. Sat outside on the Piccini benches in the street. Felt a little strange when the buses would drive by and you could just reach out and touch them. Food was good. My crispy chicken sandwich that I added bacon to was very good. Nice flavor combination and the thick well done bacon just made it better. Everyone else also reported enjoying their meals. The burgers came out cooked as requested. The octopus was tasty. The fries could have been a bit more cooked. Overall a nice place to have lunch and drinks in the city.

Yelp
Nice spot in Old City area of Philadelphia. Huge beer selection as well as full bar if you're looking for a cocktail. Good food on a menu that's in line with many others in the same space. Friendly people having a good time

Rob G.

Yelp
My favorite beer spot in Philly. If you love trappist ales, Belgian oddballs, an unbelievable selection of craft brews and imported European stuff, this is where you'll find the best of the best. Along with being a purveyor of bottomless beer knowlege, Dave is just hilarious. There's only 1 TV, in the place, and 1,000 records that are spun randomly on an actual turntable.
google avatar

Joseph T.

Yelp
Good beer list. Lots of stuff on draft, lots of selection by the can & bottle, in a cool part of the city, not terribly expensive... It ticks the boxes! I'm not sure what the crowd is usually like - I went on a Monday and had no trouble getting a drink or finding a place to sit. I have no idea if it is typically like this. My guess is no because it is a pretty cool place. They have TVs if you want to watch a game or something. Probably best to call ahead and make sure they'll be showing it. They also have food. I did not partake, but others did and seemed to enjoy what they were eating.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in for a late lunch. Bar was somewhat crowded and we sat at a table in the back. The server was efficient and knowledgeable. The drinks and food came timely and the food was pretty good. I had a Kilbasa sandwich with the mac&cheese. Both were outstanding. The others seemed to like their selections. If in olde city area of Philly, not a bad place to stop. They had a huge beer selection. Like most places in this end of town the building was old and decrepit, but it was still standing. Glad we chose this stop.
google avatar

Dee M.

Yelp
I thought I posted this review, as I wrote it years ago, but just found it in my drafts.
google avatar

Maddie K.

Yelp
Good selection of beer and friendly staff. They have several locally brewed options on draft. It wasn't too busy on a Sunday, bathrooms are downstairs and we're clean.
google avatar

Cassandra N.

Yelp
We were in Philly for the day and were excited to try this spot as it's listed as a dog friendly places . unfortunately they aren't so we were not able to try them. Please update your filters as this is misleading to people from out of town :(
google avatar

Ashley V.

Yelp
The cocktail I got was good and affordable. Burria grilled cheese was definitely worth the try, wish I could have finished the whole thing. Staff was nice, what you typically get from bar staff so don't go in expecting the red carpet.
google avatar

Kaitlynn H.

Yelp
Oh man, I am not a yelp lady. But this place deserves it. The bartender (who I'm maybe discovering is Dave, one of the owners?) made me a Negroni with a local gin and it was possibly the best Negroni I've ever had. On top of the phenomenal recommendations, he was funny and patient and sweet with the rest of my not-so-sober group. All that aside, any place with a Hall & Oates themed bathroom that plays a variety of vinyl records including New Order, with a bartender who can find you a beer with whatever weird preference you may have, is worth the trip. I may have to come to Philadelphia more often just to visit Glory.
google avatar

Badria M.

Yelp
Been a few times while on visits to PA! Such a gem in the Old City. They are easily able to accommodate larger groups of people with offerings for everyone. Yet, is still somehow a low key, cozy place to spend a cold afternoon or evening. I recently had one of their roasted salads with fried chicken, which was amazing.
google avatar

Robert D.

Yelp
Ordered the chicken sandwich with fries. Excellent. Atmosphere was great and the bar tenders were attentive without being overbearing.
google avatar

Yelp
I've actually visited Glory Beer twice - once with fellow Elites for drinks after PingPod, and then a few months later with my OG friend and his new boyfriend. They visited from Virginia and were staying at the nearby Wyndham Olde City Hotel. It's a cool place, with solid food and a substantial beer & cocktail list. OG and I got variations of the burger, which was ah may zing. His man got the French onion soup which was reported to be "decadently delicious". I had no idea before this that soup would be described as "decadent". Service was fine both times I visited. The bartenders often do food service too and despite the massive juggling, they go this very well. My tiny pet peeve would be the QR codes for menus. I am old fashioned this way. I like printed menus better. We walked both times I went, parking is street or pay garage, it's Old City so finding "free" street spots is very difficult and usually involves expert parallel parking skills. I'll definitely be back next time I'm In the city.

Yelp
Really like this place. I always try to come here when I hit Philly. Several Belgian beers on tap and the food is great here. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and they play funky alternative music. Hits all the mark for a good bar... at least for me. Will definitely be back
google avatar

Yelp
Love. Love. Love. Excellent beer options and they are happy to help make recommendations if you aren't sure. I enjoy their Prosecco in that fancy little glass- it's the attention to detail that always makes a difference. It's a local hang out with many of the regulars stopping in for a drink after work. It a great venue for larger gatherings. They have a private upstairs area ready for your next office/ holiday party. Stop by and enjoy some cool vinyl vibes and a relaxing yet invigorating time here! Go on- go now!

Gary Y.

Yelp
Dave and the staff were awesome! Food was delicious! Great place to stop for great atmosphere and great food/drink!
google avatar

Yelp
Came for board game night. The bar has two floors, with the first floor with the most beer selections. The floors are spacious and the second floor has numerous tables to hold a gathering. The service was good, especially the second floor where the bartender would carry food to our tables even though we didn't know where we would be sitting. Ordered Birria Grilled Cheese and Common Roots Snowy Mound beer. Took about 15 mins before I got to dive into my food. The Birria sandwich is an interesting Mexican American twist. Each dip of the cheese and steak sandwich into the onion flavor soup tasted pretty good. The dark beer was great since it wasn't too bitter and ended with a smooth finish.

Yelp
This is. Great place to visit in old city. It has a fun quirky environment and friendly staff. My sister and I got a hummus plate and flat bread to snack on. I ordered a local beer and my sister got a mixed drink (rosemary lemonade). My hummus plate was amazing and super tasty while my sister's flat bread was good, but not worth the price tag associated with it. The reason for the 4/5 stars was due to lack of consistent service (we had 3 people check on us within 10 minutes, then couldn't find anyone with the last 25) and the subpar mixed drink and overpriced flatbread. I would recommend this place as long as you come with patience and a laid back mentality.

Yelp
Really enjoyed Glory on Saturday! Got there around 5: wasn't too busy! Got seated quickly. Our server was incredibly personable. I got the Water Melly drink and my friend ended up getting a raspberry beer blended with rum. Never heard of this before, but the sip I had was really good. My drink was the perfect blend of sweet and spice. I got the crispy chicken sandwich: it was pretty delicious. But the star? The ketchup. Wish I could explain, but the ketchup is so unique and so so good. Overall, really enjoyed this experience!

Lisa C.

Yelp
This is a nice little spot in Old City for a drink and some good food. We enjoyed sitting outside with an excellent lamb kefta burger and regular burger with fries. The tabouli salad was a welcome side to the lamb kefta. Laid back service made lunch very enjoyable. We will stop by again.

Lora P.

Yelp
Excellent and highly recommend. Bartender Dave C gave amazing recommendations, was warm and friendly, and top shelf service. Squash salad and fries were top notch. Like stout? Recommend the Goose Island imperial stout.

Christine H.

Yelp
We loved it. The staff was friendly and efficient the beer was great. The food was delicious. Next time I'm in Philly I will be returning!
google avatar

Margarita R.

Yelp
Cute bar I found randomly one night after an event nearby. Only had a few beers at the bar but Bryan was great! He was kind and helpful. I told him the type of beer and I liked and he suggested a great one. I have to come back to check them out again!
google avatar

Rich R.

Yelp
Awesome beer selection, friendly servers, especially Joline. Apps are limited, some too spicy.
google avatar

Deirdre C.

Yelp
Was here a few weeks ago for a private party on the second floor. We were able to find street parking two blocks away so that was great! It's got a nice feel-sort of farmhouse/industrial in a good way! The drinks and food were great! Chicken fingers, hummus, etc. Music was playing and that was kind of loud considering the type of event it was and most people were talking/having conversations. I'd like to go back, sit on the first floor and try some other foods they are known for!
google avatar

Randy B.

Yelp
Glory Beer Bar & Kitchen is perfect. Wonderful service, great beer, delicious food -- what else do you want? Cool interior? Vibe? It has that, too. With a dozen business associates, we took over. I tried a couple of appetizers, wings and mozzarella sticks, both were some of the best I've ever had. This is definitely not your typical beer bar grub. I also ordered a KIELBASA SANDWICH [$16, 4.5 stars] on a pretzel bun with housemade sausage. Wow. Didn't love the apple-beet slaw, but I appreciate the attempt. Served with crispy potatoes. Everything was delish. Loved. I'll be back again, for sure.
google avatar

Yelp
Visited Philly for a concert at the Fillmore and this is where we picked to go after for a drink. Fun fact: in NYC we have beer and shot combos and in Philly they have something called the "citywide" which is their version of the beer and shot combo plus a block of Swiss cheese (who could ever say no to cheese?!) they have a large selection of beers and the staff was super friendly and welcoming.

Danny E.

Yelp
We were visiting due to Hurricane Milton and I was trying to find a good dinner spot that wouldn't break the bank downtown. Yelp led me to Glory. The food and service were excellent. They have a large list of drinks on draft as well. I had the steak frites and my fiancé had the chicken sandwich with a side of mac and cheese. I couldn't ask for anything better. To top it off, our waiter (forgive me for not getting your name) gave us two shots of Wild Turkey on the house. Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Kristen M.

Yelp
Bartenders are great. Beer selection is decent. Food is amazing. You NEED to get the Mac and cheese. We got it along with the Fried Chicken - Amazing - as well as the steak. If you don't get the steak, you at least need to get a side of chimichurri - best I've ever had. Great space, good people, what else can you ask for?
google avatar

Paulene C.

Yelp
Came here randomly on a Saturday night and I'm so glad we did! I got a burger with fries and it is one of the best burgers I have ever had. My only complaint is that the ketchup tasted funny, so my fries were not as enjoyable as they could have been. We also ordered the mac & cheese as an appetizer and it was so delicious. Definitely stop by if you're in the area.
google avatar

Mathew M.

Yelp
Great spot for drinks with friends. Wide selection of beers and the bartender was great at recommending beers based on your likes. Great vibes!
google avatar

Lindsey H.

Yelp
Waitstaff was rude. Food was cold. We came in hot and ready for a cold beer. Told we couldn't have a sample pour before purchasing. We should have left. Once we got our food we were never checked on again until the check was brought. There are a lot of great palaces in Philly, don't bother with this one.

Ruth S F.

Yelp
So good love it service amazing. Bathroom clean. Table clean. Not too crowded. Food great.

Yelp
We stopped by for a beer last weekend and I really loved this place. The hostess was super sweet and helped us to get a couple seats at the bar. Then the bartender came to us with water and got our drink orders. Maybe I've become too cynical but the niceness of the staff really made my night. Beer selection was great. The space was really nice to hang out in. Its been a while since I hung out in old city but I'll def come back here. Thanks guys. :)
google avatar

George N.

Yelp
Great little place for a quick bite good selection of beers and service Good atmosphere prices were fair
google avatar

Miles A.

Yelp
Pretty good spot with nice ambiance and staff. Lots of big tables and a good size bar to hang out at. Drink prices pretty reasonable, with some good happy hour cocktails very cheap! Had fish and chippy - a bit on the pricey side for how big the fish pieces were. Fries were nice. Others said their meals were decent. Overall pretty good, thanks

Yelp
Restaurant and dining out has drastically changed since the onset of Covid. This was the first time in a long time that I've been able to enjoyed outside dining. It was a cool Autumn night downtown Philadelphia, however the company was great and the customer service was warm. Our server was extremely detailed to keep a safe distance, offer hand sanitizer, and wore face mask. I felt comforted and safe, Which is so significant during this pandemic. I ordered a sirloin sandwich with french fries which arrived piping hot and tasted wonderful, but the real surprise was pint of cherry beer, which I thoroughly enjoyed. This restaurant boasts a wide variety of beers. We toasted and celebrated a much-needed night on the town. I had a great time and I will visit again.

Yelp
If I still lived in Philly, this would be my go-to beer bar. I can say that with confidence because it is indeed the go-to beer bar for a few of my friends in the city. As a non-regular, I was treated as an after thought on my second visit with a few friends. Our server was close with my friends, doted on them throughout, and then would start walking away until I said excuse me. It happened several times including when I wanted to pay and was annoying, though not enough to deter a return one day. Their beer list is stellar, both for drafts and bottles/cans. On my first visit, a friend and I made a reservation and sat streetside. It was perfect weather to be outside. For my second visit (three days later), my friends opted to sit inside since we're all fully vaxed. I didn't order food either visit, but my friends' pita and burger entrees looked great. Glory has a great location on 2nd and Chestnut in Old City. It served as a nice launching zone for a mini walking tour of my former home. After several years away, it was interesting to view everything in a new light. You can find their latest beer list on Untappd, which is always convenient. I'm sure I'll be back someday.
