"On the east side of Prospect Park, there are plenty of good restaurants, but not a ton of great date spots. Sure, if you’re in one of those relationships where all you need is each other’s company, then you can pat yourself on the back and share some takeout on the couch before falling asleep during the first half of a critically acclaimed documentary. But for the rest of us, there’s Glou. This one-room wine bar in Prospect Lefferts Gardens is a good option for nearly all early-in-the-game date situations. If you’re just looking for a place to get a drink with that labradoodle enthusiast from your Yoga to the People class, grab a couple seats at the bar and ask the bartender/owner for suggestions from the short, mostly-natural wine list. You probably won’t find yourself taking photos of anything to show the clerk at your local wine store, but it’s hard to complain about drinking quality French wines for $9-$12 per glass, and the pours are large. If you’re confident there won’t be any mentions of ESP or past lives as Genghis Khan, and you’re fine with more of a commitment than just drinks, then sit at one of the small tables and get some food. Everything on the small-plates menu here is made behind the bar, and while no particular dish is worth a trip on its own, everything is both shareable and pretty reasonably priced (it’s all under $16). Start with the roasted broccoli over almond pesto or the $8 escargots, and then get the octopus with crispy potatoes and smoky eggplant dip. By the end of the meal, at the very least, you’ll probably know if this is someone you could fall asleep watching documentaries with in the future. Food Rundown Escargots We almost always enjoy escargots, especially when they’re only $8, as they are here - but we also usually think the best part is dipping some crusty bread in the leftover garlicky butter. At Glou, though, the pan is so shallow that there’s no way to actually sop up anything, so this is basically just six escargots and a couple pieces of thin, grilled bread. Still, the escargots themselves are good. Roasted Broccoli Roasted broccoli may not sound like a particularly hearty dish, but this is actually one of the most filling things here. The big portion of charred broccoli is served over toasted farro soaked in almond pesto, which gives the dish extra richness and crunch. This should be on your table if you’re looking for something to share. Octopus This has a solid amount of octopus, especially for $14, although the dominant part of the dish is the charred eggplant (which tastes like baba ghanoush). The octopus itself is a bit too chewy, but when that and the crispy potatoes are covered in the eggplant spread, it’s all pretty enjoyable. Meatballs This is really more of a tomato bisque. It’s a deep bowl of marinara sauce, burrata, and some beef and pork meatballs, with some crunchy bread on the side for dipping. The sauce and the meatballs themselves don’t have enough salt or spice, and the whole thing is pretty bland, so we’d skip this in favor of something else." - Matt Tervooren

From the street, Glou presents a charming and demure atmosphere. A white cedar shake hut, with a well lit patio, on a tree lined street. Imagine my surprise when, before even opening the door, club music was blasting so loud that the door handle vibrated in my hands. It’s dark, it’s cozy, it’s deafening. Had 2 amazing carafes of wine, but bar staff notable did not offer or present any water. The cookie was good. The music was much too loud for the crowd, evidenced by the fact that no one was dancing and everyone was shouting. Maybe it was an off night, or whoever had the aux was thrashing at the confines of their cage, but for a couple that wanted a cozy quiet night. We were pleasantly surprised by a sit-down club. 5/5, just give me water next time.

As a resident of your neighborhood I'm so glad Glou is here! The drinks are all great, they have a wonderful selection of wines, and the atmosphere is gorgeous, clean, and relaxing. The bartenders are great and always make you feel comfortable and obviously they make great drinks! You MUST check it out if you appreciate well-made cocktails and a vibe that fits everyone <3

I LOVED the bartender here. He was SO great and really helpful with everything. I forgot his name but 10/10. Some people had food but we just got the Castelvetrano olives which are my favorite Hard to park here and one small restroom but a good spot overall.

Love this small cocktail bar. Great outdoor space, interesting wines and awesome cocktails. Would love to see them change up the cocktail menu once in a while, as I've had all of them, but they will also make anything else you want. Had a great dirty martini.

Very cute, soft atmosphere. Outside sitting is so lovely during the warmer months. They have very very tasty cocktails!

Great vibes and awesome drinks. The mocktails are also good. The hummus plate was exceptionally tasty as well!

There’s a new 5/5 cocktail bar on the scene in Providence! (Ok, ~new~ may be relative, but I was able to try Glou for the first time yesterday on NYE after having them on my list to visit for months!) Spectacular cocktail program, service, and vibe all around. Another win for Fox Point to have such a cozy, inviting, and innovative cocktail bar in their backyard. There were 6 unique cocktails to choose from in addition to 2 bonus NYE drinks, a wine/beer list, plus non-alcoholic drinks, and food. We got there early in our NYE revelry and we were able to find a table for 3 no problem. (We even scored a window seat!) There’s also a heated patio out back to check out if you have a larger party. The cocktails were spectacular. Well-balanced with an array of different liquor bases and aperitifs—rest-assured there’s going to be something for everyone on this menu. The bartending team is also amazing and wonderfully accommodating. There was one drink I really wanted to try that had roasted cherries in it, but I have a cherry allergy. I let the bartender know and we were able to pivot into a Gin Fizz with honey, ginger, and a dusting of sumac on top! Can’t wait to return more frequently in 2024 and try the food menu as well. Cheers to the team at Glou!

Super cute bar with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and a ridiculously awesome wine, cocktail, and beer options. We swung by around 9pm on a Thursday and got one of the last outdoor seats. We tried a Sour Heart and a Slovenia wine- both great.

Yelp
Have been multiple times now and every time I leave having had an excellent drink. I love that Lambrusco is making its way on menus and there is no shortage of delicious wine on the menu at Glou. The lighting is dark and intimate, perfect for a drink on a date! While the wine list is what I go for, there's also cocktails, beer, and a variety of non alcoholic options, which was great for meeting friends here during dry January. Can't wait to be back in the summer with the patio!

Yelp
I was early to a dinner reservation, so I walked by this place and ended up stopping in. The staff was very nice, the music was great and the whole vibe of the place was on point. I had two drinks. The first drink was a spicy. Margarita, it was really good but rather small. The second drink I had was it ginger drink that was phenomenal. Great before dinner spot!

Yelp
One of my favorite "watering holes" in the city. Whether you're looking for a dimly lit craft cocktail bar (with beer and wine) or want to grab drinks, and even snacks, on an adorable patio tucked away out back, they should be on your list. The atmosphere both in and outside is just perfect for relaxing alone or with friends. Service is always friendly and the bartenders are extremely accommodating, even having whipped up off menu moments for myself and friends. It's a spot I return to time and time again to unwind and enjoy delicious drinks. I mean DELICIOUS! One word of advice, it can get a little loud if there's a full house, so if you prefer a quieter setting, head over in the nicer weather and take full advantage of their patio space.

Yelp
Glou is a bar with some snack options. The bar has cocktails, mocktails, wine, and beer. The indoor area is low lit with lots of small tables. Outside they have a large patio with string lights. I've gotten two mocktails and both were really good. I particularly like the spice baby drink I got recently. It had all the flavor of rum with spicy citrus.

Yelp
Hip, charming, mod. - Creative cocktails - Wonderful ambience - Gorgeous architecture/interior design/lighting - Bomb playlist (Dabuell - whoever is on aux has impeccable taste) - No wifi (so be it) - No under bar hooks for coats/bags (I forgive you) - Friendly/talented staff - Well equipped bar - from chartreuse to luxardo - Outdoor seating In many bars' quests to be the perfect, nonchalant neighborhood joint, somewhere along the way, the vibe becomes too fabricated. Not to wax too poetic here, but Glou is clearly trying the *right* amount of hard. The vibe is enviable. Well done.

Yelp
Walked by Glou and decided to check it out! It had a candlelit dim ambiance with a great vibe. The staff was friendly and prepared amazing drinks! They serve cocktails, wine, beer & cider as well as a few items to nosh on while sipping beverages. The venue is cozy and as the evening progressed it filled in quickly. Definitely worth a visit!

Yelp
Delicious cocktails and lovely atmosphere. Not too busy on a Thursday evening. They have wine, beer, booze, mocktails, snacks. Love it! PS I asked the bartender and it's pronounced "glue".

Yelp
Wonderful, relaxed spot to get cocktails! Glou is a cozy little spot with plenty of outdoor seating which makes it a perfect place to get drinks in the evening during the summer and early fall months. The drink menu is a rotation of the current house cocktails which offers a decent variety of liquors. They do also offer zero proof cocktails which we greatly appreciate! They do also have a small selection of small bites to snack on. The atmosphere indoors is very dark, giving the space a very intimate feel. We visited with our friends this evening and had a wonderful time. If you're looking for a place to get good cocktails to start off your evening we highly recommend this spot! We will definitely be returning!

Yelp
Really low key and relaxing bar with tasty drinks and friendly bartenders. We pretty much tried every drink on the cocktail menu and they were all a hit. Give them a try the next time you're in Providence!

Yelp
Super cute bar with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and a ridiculously awesome wine, cocktail, and beer options. We swung by around 9pm on a Thursday and got one of the last outdoor seats. Coming from Brooklyn, this felt super hip & cool. We tried a Sour Heart and a Slovenia wine- both great.

Yelp
Glou is an excellent neighborhood hipster bar on Ives street in PVD. The layout is pretty simple and urban inside, with tables inside and outside. Came here on a weekday when it wasn't very busy. Reminded me of a similar bar in Queens, NY, that was BYOF. Their menu changes quite frequently and may be seasonal. Got the night picnic which was a nice boozy mezcal-based drink. I also got a gin-based cocktail with lime juice and chartreuse that i liked much better. Overall, I love the ambiance & vibe of this place, and will definitely be among one of my go to spots in the future.

Cathy Z.

Yelp
It is honestly unrecognizable what they've done with the former Malachi's! Glou is a hip cocktail bar located on the increasingly bustling Ives St. The cocktails seem to feature a lot of fresh juices and seasonal ingredients. I enjoyed my mezcal drink. It was crowded when I was here but not packed. There's an outdoor patio in the back too for the warmer months. There are a ton of excellent places to get a cocktail in Providence, but this will definitely be added to the rotation.

Courtney N.

Yelp
Cozy spot on a busy Fox Point block. They had a pop upfor dinner and everything was delicious. Each bartender was thoughtful and attentive, each drink felt special and mixed from scratch. Feels like Brooklyn, but way cooler of course, this is Providence! ;-)

Yelp
Hubby & I were doing a dine-around of Ives Street & we ended up at Glou for one last drink. It was like a thousand degrees outside so we didn't go further than the a/c in the bar area (although I hear there is a cute back patio). Hubby is not much of a specialty drink person so he opted for a beer. I, on the other hand, love me a unique cocktail. One look at the menu & it was game on: bring me the Palace - gin, yellow chartreuse, aperol, grapefruit, lime. This is a sassy combo! I very much enjoyed it. The guy at the next table ordered the yellow zero proof drink P.E.Z. - whiskey alternative, pineapple, lemon, vanilla - and said it was also outstanding. It looks empty in my photo of the inside of Glou but a huge group of people just left & more people were heading to the back. Definitely add it to your Ives Street list of places to check out!

Yelp
Glou is a hip new bar with a mellow atmosphere that recently opened where Malachi's used to be located. They have a small menu of alcoholic and zero-proof mixed drinks as well as different wines, ciders, and beers. There are about six tables for two inside and a few seats at the bar. Most of the seating is actually in the back; the outdoor layout reminiscent of Tiny Bar. I visited around 9:30 on a Sunday night, so it wasn't too crowded. The drinks are all pretty reasonably priced for a bar. I stuck with a simple Asahi. I also tasted the sour heart (sake, benedictine, lemon, egg white, bitters) which was surprisingly refreshing. Word about Glou has already been spreading amongst young adults in Rhode Island, and I only expect its popularity to grow during the hot summer months ahead!

Jessica J.

Yelp
Absolutely the best bar! The owners are great and wether you are looking for a date night or a place to go with friends Glou is where you want to be!

Madison C.

Yelp
Went to glou on Saturday night with a few friends and it was lively! The place has a nice ambiance and the bartenders were happy to make one of the mocktails with tequila for me! It was a good vibe in there, a good amount of seating and standing room. Would definitely go back! The baby spice with tequila was amazing.

Caleb J.

Yelp
This is one of the better bars in Providence. So many "cool" bars here feel like forced speakeasies and are going for the dark wood, "we serve whisky" vibe. Glou is refreshing because it's so thoroughly not that. The owners built a clean, simple, interior that looks good but thankfully isn't over-designed. The lighting is great, the music is decent, and the drinks are good. In short in just has a nice atmosphere. It's a neighborhood bar: not in the old school dive way, but in nice but laid back sort of way. It was exactly what the area needed. It's not necessarily the type of bar you go way out of your way for in order to have an experience--which I mean as a good thing. I don't think that's what it's going for.

Lauren G.

Yelp
The bartender was so nice! And the marinated olives were buttery and delicious. The mariposa and Better Together were amazing. Their cocktails have balanced flavors with their spirits perfectly! They also have a zero proof selection!

Ana A.

Yelp
Providence is so lucky to have this awesome spot. The back patio is very cool, spacious, and 'vibey' as the tiktokers say. The drink selection is extensive, and it's clear they put in as much thought to their mocktails as their cocktails. I've had every drink on the menu and have yet to be disappointed. Each staff member I've interacted with has been very friendly. Overall a really cool and welcoming atmosphere. Chic, but not trendy. Trying, but not too hard. Also, highly recommend stopping by on Wednesdays for their tamales, made in house by their tamale master.

Sophia M.

Yelp
Super cute little hangout spot! Adorable inside and bar area, and a friendly staff. Reasonable prices with imaginative but delicious drinks and friendly staff. Beautiful outdoor seating area as well. Would go back!
