Must stop for fried food. I stop by here every year when I visit brown county. So far must haves are the mushroom and pickles. Tier 2 are okra and onion rings (it’s fantastic but similar to other top tier fry places. I can’t find the mushroom and pickles this good anywhere else). I’m very picky about food and the only skippable for me so far are the cheese sticks (but I only like cheese from a proper cheese shop). The batter is very nice and they season their veggies!! I would say fresh fried is better than warming tray area. But they are super nice so if you’re willing to wait I’m sure they would fry it up fresh for you. For sauces, I recommend their sassy sauce and their ketchup blended with hot sauce.

Visited in October 2025. Employees were friendly and kind. Ordered a tenderloin and onion rings and they were hands down the absolute best tenderloin and onion rings we have ever had. The tenderloin meat was delicious and consistent throughout, no gristle or hard pieces whatsoever. The onion rings had great taste and the onion stayed in the breading. Food was freshly made.

Gnaw Mart: A Gas Station Fever Dream. If you blink driving into Gnaw Bone, Indiana, you’ll miss two things: 1. The entire town. 2. This tiny psychedelic gas station oasis that has absolutely no business going as hard as it does. Gnaw Mart is like if a truck stop, a hippie commune, and a garage sale had a beautiful tie-dye baby. The second you walk in, the employees are dressed like they just left a Grateful Dead show and stopped in to sling tenderloins on their way home. THE FOOD BREAKDOWN: 🔥 Tenderloin Sandwich: Slaps. Smacks. Hits. This thing could start a religion. 🌭 Corn Dog: Shockingly elite. Like, “why is this so good at a random gas station?” elite. 🧀 Mac & Cheese Bites: Golden little squares of happiness. 🍔 Everything Else: I love y’all, but… no. Choose life. THE POOPING ROOM: 10/10. Spacious. Peaceful. A place a traveler can truly reflect. I bring my own toilet paper everywhere like a responsible adult, so I cannot vouch for the quality of the in-house shit tickets, but the overall vibe is immaculate. THE MILK-STOCKING GODDESS: While I was there, one of the employees was stocking the milk cooler, and let me tell you… HOLY SMOKES. Absolute knockout. A full-on dime piece. Quite possibly the most glorious, gravity-defying butt I have ever witnessed on a white girl in my life. I think I might be in love. 5 stars because I’m loyal. 5 stars because it’s Gnaw Mart. 5 stars because sometimes you just need a tenderloin sandwich, a spiritual awakening, and an angel restocking dairy products. Highly recommend.

This place has a reputation online for amazing pork tenderloins - some pages frequently cite it as the best in the state. I’ll have to agree now that I got the sandwich. Got 3 for myself and my folks before we went back to Northern Indiana after a trip to Bloomington. They were affordable, ready fast, and tasted amazing. Great quality meat. The sides (we got fries, fried pickles, and onion rings) were all delicious, too.

This is the place to get everything you need while driving on SR-46 through Brown County. It may look like a basic convenience store on the outside but they sell a lot more than that! They are famous for their Tenderloin and I went to try it out today. It was great and fried to perfection. The store seemed to be kept nice and clean and the lady at the counter was friendly. Overall, if you’re traveling through Brown County and need a rest stop, stop here and grab a tenderloin to eat if you’re hungry!

Great tenderloin! $5 for a huge (5"×10") full tenderloin sandwich with toppings, didn't get anything else with it and didn't need it! The Mrs. got the half tenderloin ($3.50)sandwich and it was plenty for her. The attendant made them fresh for us when we ordered, only took 2 or 3 mins. There is an eating area in back where you can sit and relax. Very pleased with our experience and will be back for more!

They have the best breaded tenderloin ♥️♥️ It's our favorite place to stop driving home from Brown County State Park.

Slow down, don't miss it. The place lives up to the online reviews. It's easy to miss, just a humble gas station from outside but the food inside is great. The portions are generous and the people are friendly. Prices were very reasonable.

Not a fan of their breakfast at all , as I've ate a sausage egg and cheese and it smelled old. Had instant stomach ache! But the staff is very welcoming and personable. Their lunch/dinner is where it's at! Forget the tenderloin, I'm all about the Catfish at 4pm! All for cheap as well.

The two young men who are operating. It's not my place to know if either one of them are the owner or owners. But they are and have been the best part driving through brown county indiana. The tight roads and that one car in front of you at the light by cvs and the bci that drives 20 mph less than the limit. After going through all that without having a little bit of road rage. I know that I am going to be driving pass Gnaw mart and I can get a cold drink, tender loin for under $10.00. Have a good and positive experience with the cashier. Go and get in my car to drive the rest of the to Columbus. That sandwich is the only good thing on that entire highway other than the brown county inn. Come to Nashville on vacation and leave on probation. So we can all be Thankful for Gnaw mart

Recommended on Yelp, we were anxious to try their highly rated pork tenderloin. We had a hard time finding the place until we read that the "restaurant" is inside the Country Mark Gas station. When we pulled in, two really nice ladies were outside enjoying a smoke on this beautiful morning. They bantered with us about being from out of town. We indicated that we heard they had awesome tenderloins. One of the ladies told us the sandwiches were ready inside. So the food is prepared, packaged and in a heated case for pick up. The pork sandwiches can be purchased half or whole. For $2 additional, you can get any side. We chose poppers. Fixings are available at a little counter on the end. The sandwich was hot. The breading on the sandwich was nicely spicy and flavorful. The pork was very juicy. The bun was a little soggy from being wrapped and sitting. The poppers were good. There is a room in the back with banquet tables to eat at. The tables are clean. Unfortunately, there were unsupervised kids running around screaming that made eating challenging. So we ate outside. All in all, super friendly service and a very good sandwich at a great price.

Our neighbor across the street recommended this place for their tenderloin after I hiked the Laura O'Hare Preserve Nature Trail. I think I counted 12 tenderloins go out from the time I ordered until my dog and I finished it off at the picnic table out front. Their reputation is well deserved. Nice and thick and well breaded and seasoned and they had the classic lettuce, tomato pickle onion, and condiments to the side. Crinkle fries and a drink made it a combo and my drink was free. Nine dollars flat, I'll be back!

Regular tenderloin sandwich is generously sized enough to share between modest eaters. Mon-Fri, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., lunch special gets you a side and large fountain drink for $1 more (fries, chips, wedges) or $2 with upgraded sides. Fries are crinkle cut (but you get a lot). Got their gizzards and they were great. Will try their potato chips as a side if fresh fried, otherwise they have chicken livers too. Unshaded picnic table outside near parking lot, otherwise roomy dining area inside.

Good pork chop sandwich, it was not a tenderloin. Best T-Loin's in the region - Fairfax, Hoosiers, Kenny's, Fries not cooked completely. Still o.k. unexpected

The food served here is fresh and mostly homemade. My main concern/complaint is That the Tenderloin they serve is not the recipe that made Gnawmart famous. They are advertising a product that they don't have. The original owner did not sell them the recipe when he sold them the shop. The fish is really good!

Just an average small gas station that includes some on point gas station food. I just had to try the famous pork sandwich that I kept seeing on Yelp so I got the half size and my son got the full size. It was excellent.

They have a cheese fridge. Need I say more? The only gas station between Nashville and Columbus. Saved me from running out of gas one time.

We were psyched to grab a Gnaw Tenderloin the other day! Classic Americana here - it's just a little counter in a roadside convenience store with premade hot sandwiches ready to go. They're not gonna win any James Beard awards, but they hit the spot and we sure were happy to support an idiosyncratic local business. Thumbs up, and if I'm ever in Gnaw Bone again, I'll be back!

WT-B-F? No. This is one of the closest commercial spots to my home. Been in and out here for as long as this spot has been open. And, yeah, still...I wouldn't eat anything not commercially prepped and sealed. Really. Seriously high heebie-jeebies coefficient. ~~~ So ends my original, unedited review. ETA: DO GIRD LOINS, I've just uploaded the visual of my scant conversation with Richard B., who seems pretty cranky that women can choose (at least on these interwebs) not to communicate with him further (without his permission), without additional worry to their physical safety. (Since my (unedited) review was more than a year prior to his, I'm even more puzzled as to his real motive...) Regardless of his entirely offensive initial message OOTB, to a stranger, which accused me of drug use, I do think it's precious (Did I say precious? I meant DSM-worthy.) that he thinks I absolutely must listen to him and care what he thinks (again, out of the blue) and alter my opinions (regardless of how well-founded they may be or have been when the review was written [more than a year before his single visit to a place over a hundred miles away from his home that is literally one of the closest places to see another human being from my home]), or face his abuse and name-calling. Amazing! My husband, kids and I stopped in after a hot trip to Brown County. Not only was everyone nice, the pork tenderloin sandwich was AWESOME! I got the Jr and it was a good size portion, husband got the regular size and it was HUGE. Don't let the outside fool you- stop in and enjoy!

The Hoosier pork tenderloin is the state's contribution to the culinary arts and, while the state does not legally have a state food, it does at least recognize it in the tourism brochures. In fact, the Gnaw Mart is recognized as the reference implementation. The State of Indiana website actually links right here to the Yelp reviews. If you've never had a Hoosier pork tenderloin, the basic premise is that a mallet is used to spread the meat as obscenely wide as possible to where you will eat a sandwich worth of meat from the outer edge before you even encounter the bun. It's then breaded and fried up and served fresh to you. The Gnaw Mart has seating for about 25-30 but despite its rustic charm, it's never too busy on the weekend. In fact, despite being about 15 minutes from any town, it is always packed at lunchtime midweek. It's worth it to make a stop if you find yourself coming off of I-65 and heading for Nashville or Bloomington. Experience the real Indiana.

Excellent Breaded Tenderloins. These business has been located in 3 areas here in Brown County. But the quality and quantity of their Breaded Tenderloins have never changed. And their following has also only increased. We are usually in the area visiting our niece and grand niece as we were 2 weeks ago and always stops by for a visit and great sandwich as we did recently. If you want a great sandwich be sure to check this place out whenever you find yourself between Nashville and Gnawbone on Highway 46 stop in for a great sandwich.

Talk about some seriously good gas station food! I guess the fried breaded pork tenderloin is the Hoosier states signature sandwich and I can't believe there's any place that does it any better than this place!

We saw this place on yelp and wanted to try it. on a visit here from California and was driving this way through This little town to Indianapolis. We love to try local spots. It was delish, and big We got the lunch combo. We split a sammie, fresh chips and a Dr. Pepper. They have a condiment station where we put pickles, mayo and lettuce. It was crispy and hot. It was busy, and the girls were friendly. Would definitely stop here on your way through town.

Really good pork tenderloin sandwich! "Fixins' " bar had everything needed to dress up the sandwich. Delicious and down to earth - great value - even the kids size sandwich was generous.

If you like good down home cooking, then here is where it's at. The Gnaw Mart dishes up awesome fried goodness starting with the Original Gnaw Bone Tenderloin. This tenderloin was meaty and juicy, the prefect combination to keep me coming back for more. And, it's served with a side of home-fried potato chips creating a delicious award-winning combination. Go for lunch or an early dinner - they are only cooking till 6pm.

The Gnawbone Tenderloin is the center of the Tenderloin Universe. Hand pounded and breaded daily using locally purchased pork, this is the best tenderloin I've ever had. The meat is thick and it is pressure cooked so it's not greasy even if you get it to go and drive all the way back to Indy. My ususal strategy is to buy the full Gnawbone, cut it in half and eat half there and take the rest home for dinner. It re-heats nicely in an oven or toaster oven. If you are looking for a fine dining experience, look elsewhere. You sit at long tables in the back of the store, eat off of paper plates and drink from styrofoam cups. But if you are looking a truly great sandwich, THIS IS IT.

While on a guy's weekend getaway in Brown County, stopped at Gnaw Bone to try the highly recommended fried tenderloin. Wasn't disappointed. Suggest asking them to cook the crinkle fries a little longer.

Well I was shocked on how good the tenderloin sandwich is here. Best I've had in Indiana. The sandwich is big. Loaded with pickles and veggies and jalapenos. Was do good and for only 7 bucks with fries and drink . It's a hole in the wall but of the best kind. Awesome

This place is gross. Egregiously over priced and even for gas station food it's disgusting. We ordered gizzards and they charged us four dollars for four of them. Don't go here!

GnawMart Original Gnaw Bone Tenderloin, home made Taco Pizza and Chips was delicious. Great food at a surprising gas station location. Everything I tried there was excellent. GnawMart is an Indiana treasure.

So this is a little gas station. You would drive right passed it, but don't. The pork tenderloin is fresh made to order and by far the best I have ever had. I grew up on them so I know a pork tenderloin. You can add fresh lettuce, tomato, pickle, jalapeño mayo, mustard and spicy mustard. As much as you want. The onion rings are really good to no minced onions. They have fried gizzards, livers and a bunch of other yummy deep fried treats. It's a must stop.

Officially this is a ten star review! Service is great, tenderloin is awesome! If you are a fan of this sandwich then this is a must try. Who cares that it is a gas station, I have had good food from way worse places then here. Store is very clean and the a/c is rocking so it's very comfortable. Get in here and try these now!

The best pork tenderloin ever. Point off for being out of French fries, onion rings, mushrooms and chicken. We wanted our sandwiches run through the garden but 3 of us got honey mustard only.

Make sure you check your bill! I bought $54 in gas, paid at the pump with credit card. I checked our bill and they had charged us two times @ $54....scam or error? I don't know yet!

Local yum! Yes it is a gas station and it takes a while sometimes to get your food but it is good food. Go there often, we love the fish. Nothing healthy about it but man is it good. Good prices for Brown County.

Coming from Louisiana most recently, eating awesome pork products in an uninviting gas station in the middle of nowhere is nothing new. That being said, I've now traded my weekly link of boudin (Cajun rice sausage) for a deep fried pork tenderloin, typically in the form of a sandwich. All the guidebooks say this hole in the wall in Gnaw Bone (outside of the beautiful tourist town of Nashville) is THE place to go for this signature Hoosier dish....and now I understand why. This place serves a delicious tenderloin that was tied for the best I've ever had (I've had about 10-15 so far). BUT, it was the best value by far, and everything was made fresh (I'm not sure if this is the case when they get busy, though). Highly recommended for those in search of the perfect pork tenderloin sandwich, and you're only a few miles from some of the nicest parkland in the state. Next time I swing by SR46 to/from Bloomington or Nashville, I'll definitely be going back for more.

Stopping at the Gnaw Mart while in Brown County came highly recommended by a friend. I was reluctant at first to dining at a gas station, but being a fan of the Hoosier Tenderloin sandwich, I just had to give Gnaw Mart a chance. I was a bit fearful of a recent rating that claimed that the tenderloin was a frozen, mass produced version of a classic. Nothing could be further from the truth! Even though we entered the station shortly before closing, the attendant opened up the grill and quickly prepared us a few of the famous tenderloins. These monsters were battered right in front of us and fried to perfection in some sort of pressure fryer. A short time later the tenderloins emerged ready for consumption! Some mayo and American cheese was all that was needed to compliment the perfect-pork! All I can say is that this is one of, if not THE best tenderloin I've ever ate! 5 Stars is no bull!!! It's THAT good! A stop at the Gnaw Mart will forever be a must whenever I'm in Brown County Indiana!

Yum! Nothing fancy here but the tenderloins are awesome. Talked with the owner (Roger) and his partner for a bit. Great people! Gotta take the drive to Gnaw Bone, Indiana and get some food. Be sure to call first for hours and any special stuff they have going on-guess they do some barbecue too!
