"To no one’s surprise, Malden has some of the best Chinese restaurants around, as its Asian population has seen steady growth in the past few decades. Better still, the high density of the Chinese population has led to more regionalized Chinese restaurants opening in the area. Enter: Go Chi, an establishment dedicated to Northeastern Chinese cuisine, which is known for hearty, pork-heavy stews, whopping pocket-sized dumplings, and its own version of candied apples, all to fight off long and bitingly cold winters." - Nathan Tavares, Valerie Li Stack, Eater Staff

Google
As the other reviews say, very authentic dongbei food! Tastes like my mom's cooking, even my mom says so! :) highly recommend. The dongbei braised spare rib, king oyster mushroom, sweet and sour fried pork (Chinese version of tang suyuk), and skewers were particularly good.

Google
I wanted to try something new for delivery and decided to try this place. I was blown away by how good the food was! This is not the standard Chinese food you can get anywhere. I got the Szechuan Boiled Fish Fillet and it was delicious. Watch out, the spiciness sneaks up on you! Also, it was a very large portion, probably will be 3 meals for me.

Jarvis Chen

Google
Excellent food, relatively inexpensive, cute decor! If you are looking for Northern Chinese Cuisine, Go Chi is among the best in the Boston area. The skill of their kitchen staff and presentation is incredible and the prices are very fair. Everything is appropriately spiced and authentic. The crab is a must try! Skewers are especially good. Pay cash for 10% off your bill (Bank of American ATM next door).

Google
Exceptional tasty authentic northern style Chinese food. All dishes are more than you can expect, and no dish will disappoint you here. Some may think the service is not great, but it is their style and not too bad either. The down side would be the outdated interior and not a neat place.

Google
Staff was super nice and attentive. The dishes was unique and delicious. Perfect blend of spice and flavor. Wait staff understood the level of heat I could handle and recommended the perfect dishes.

Summer Wang

Google
I like the northern Chinese BBQ. The cuisine was pretty nice and tasty. Staffs were friendly as well and provide great suggestions on what to order. We arrived a bit late and they ran out of the tea we liked. Would definitely be back and try out other dishes.

Google
The food was great, and the service was ok. Maybe it’s because it was 1 hour before the closing time when we got there, the server in the front door was not so friendly. Other servers there were ok, and we understand it’s near the closing hour. Overall, the experience was still pretty nice. 食物還不錯吃,大頭菜很夠味。

Google
Pretty decent Chinese restaurant. Spicy shrimp, chicken gizzards and chicken wings were really good. Spicy dice chicken was okay and double fried pork was too oily. The pork dumplings were good too. The dumplings are north eastern style, which is thick skin. If you are used to the Cantonese type of dumplings, which is thin skin, you may not like it.

Yelp
Decided to give this new place a try. This location has changed ownership a few times in the past couple years. Parking can be tricky because they don't have a parking lot. We usually park at Stop & Shop and walk over instead of wasting time looking for street parking. They did a little bit of remodeling and the place is very spacious. The service was wonderful. Our waters were always full and the staff are all so pleasant and helpful. My family doesn't eat too spicy, but our serve gave us some recommendations, and they were all very good. My favorite was the braised Japanese tofu and the sweet & sour fish. They debone the whole fish while maintaining a beautiful presentation on the plate. It was fried perfectly and didn't come out soggy even with the sauce on it. I would definitely come back to try more dishes.

Yelp
I came here based on a recommendation from someone who grew up in Northeastern China. Although I've never had much Northeastern Chinese food myself, I was curious to try the various dishes they have to offer! 4 of us split the house-style liangpi ($13.95), paradise garden ($15.95), Dongbei braised spare ribs ($17.95), braised eggplant with fried pork ($16.95), foil beef ($17.95), and a large bowl of rice ($7.25). I highly recommend trying the above selection of dishes if you've never had Northeastern Chinese food before, because each of those dishes had their own unique flavor and texture profile. The liangpi had a tangy, nutty sesame sauce which was cold and refreshing with the chewy noodles. The noodles came with lots of sliced cucumber which added to the freshness of the dish. I couldn't stop eating it! The paradise garden was unlike anything I've had before-- a mixture of fresh, thinly sliced vegetables, shrimp, and tripe came swimming in a dark-colored cold broth that wasn't heavily salted. Each component in the dish was fresh but I can't say I was the biggest fan of this one, mostly because I was unfamiliar with the dish and didn't know what to expect. The Dongbei braised spare ribs were so tender that they fell off the bone. The meat was extremely flavorful and had a good balance between leaner and fattier bits. The braised eggplant with fried pork had a Chinese American vibe to it because there was so much breading and a sweet-and-sour sauce. The eggplant was super tender, although I barely tasted any pork in the dish. The foil beef was soft, tender, and had a pleasant peppery flavor to it! The beef was swimming in a delicious sauce that paired perfectly with rice. Overall, I was very impressed by the various ways they've prepared meat. I would definitely come back for the liangpi and to try their other dishes!

Yelp
Very interesting interior decor that will make you feel like you are in commercial mainland china. The diverse food will give you that feeling as well! The dry pot and stews are good as well as the chicken skewers. I would avoid the squid skewers as they had a funky flavor.

Yelp
Amazing food. A little cramped but it makes for a charming experience where you can look at the food of your neighbors and maybe even make a new set of friends.

Yelp
Had the Pork Hanging Tender with Pepper, House Special Stew, and Sauteed Eggplant with Spicy Garlic Sauce. The first two dishes belong to Northeastern Chinese cuisine (dong bei cuisine). The last one is a Sichuan dish. The northeastern dishes blew me away, with the proteins being tender and seasoned. The Pork Hanging Tender surprised me the most and was my favorite. It didn't look like much, yet the flavor of the dish was seasoned beautifully without being overpowering. It paid homage to the pork's natural flavor all the while not being bland. It was clean on the palate and not overly greasy, having a touch of minced garlic and light consomme-esque broth on the bottom to prevent the protein from drying out. The stew was just as good, being filled with braised pork belly and an assortment of vegetables in a mildly spicy, hearty stew. Stew was great served over rice. It did not have a greasy texture as the pork belly was melt in your mouth and the stew did not have a layer of oil from the braised pork belly. This was my second favorite dish. The eggplant with spicy garlic sauce was delicious and filled with a sweet-sour garlicky flavor that Sichuan people call "fish-fragrant" (except there is no fishy flavor and is rarely served over seafood. It's just a sweet vinegar, sugar, soy sauce, fermented beans, and pickled chilis). There were additions of other vegetables, altering the flavor profile a touch so it wasn't the most authentic dish, but the addition of vegetables didn't make the dish any worse than its traditional version. The dish names may not sound the most appealing, but that's because it is hard to translate dish names from Chinese to English. The Chinese dish name for the House Special Stew translates directly to "messy stew". No one would order that if it was called that, yet it is a staple of traditional northeastern Chinese cuisine.

Yelp
Very easy going restaurant. The food is delicious and authentic. The set dish with rice is great for deal and a quick bite!

Kristin N.

Yelp
Good portions of authentic food for a decent price! we got a clam foil, lamb skewers, and duck blood (i think), as well as the ribs and the cabbage soup. The service was a bit slow and the food took a while to came out, but it was a right amount of spice and extremely flavorful! Get the ribs and the sour cabbage soup. There are plenty of young mandarin people eating here when we went at 2pm on a Sunday. Highly recommend if you are ever in Malden!

Yelp
Great food. Decent service. The only place in the area where you'll find this type of food from this specific region in China.

Charlie F.

Yelp
Authentic Northeastern Chinese dishes! Although they changed their seating layout the last time I came by here and the menu was updated, Go Chi is still hitting strong with the indoor vibe! Walking distance from the Malden T station, depending on how lively and busy the place is on any given night, you may need to wait a bit but won't be disappointed with the dishes on seated and served. The Dongbei braised short ribs were gigantic and just falling off the bone and even though they give you plastic gloves, it's up to you if you wanna get down and dirty with the deliciousness. Something new was the baked pumpkin caked in salted egg yolk which was surprisingly addictive that you just might wanna order a second to go. This is a place you need to frequent more!

Yelp
Authentic food from Northeastern China 正宗东北菜! 赶上店家刚开dine in 我们点了锅包肉,溜肉段,大拉皮和烤羊肉串,最满意的是烤串儿!好好吃! 我的第一次评论就贡献给你了,真的赞

Yingjie Z.

Yelp
The owner came in and jump in a busy waiting line took our seat in front of everyone. Great service attitude... Good luck to your business lady.

Yelp
Great food! Spicy but awesome. Wish they had real menus...not fond of the QR Code and Order Online option. But I enjoy their food so much So I'm all for it. :) Love the place.

Li H.

Yelp
Very authentic Northeastern Chinese dishes! BBQ was mid-level but the dishes are GREAT. Definitely try 溜肥肠 Location's great near the T, great indoor vibes as well Their fruit tea is brilliant as well!

Yelp
I'm an ABC with parents from the Dongbei region, and this place reminds me of home. Very authentic-tasting food. The lamb skewers are nice and full of cumin flavor. The Dongbei Braised Spare Ribs tasted almost exactly like what my mom used to make growing up all the time, right down to the bony rib pieces, which I love gnawing on. The Dongbei Style Cold Noodles with Mixed Vegetables, was really nice the first time I had it (when I ordered it as takeout), but the second time we ordered this while dining in, the sauce definitely tasted like it was missing something, and the bean jelly also tasted undercooked and unpleasant as a result. It would be nice for them to work on their consistency. Finally the Crispy Twice Cooked Pork in Sweet and Sour Sauce (guo bao rou) was incredible and tasted just like the versions I had in China. Definitely the dish to order here (literally every table ordered this. I'd love to try more of their very extensive menu.

Xander Y.

Yelp
Exceptional and authentic Northeastern Chinese food. Try the real Moo Shu Pork which is nothing like the American version of a random medley served with steamed tortilla. It takes me straight back to childhood. I usually don't expect much on service if a restaurant's authenticity is this night. Go Chi definitely broke that stereotype with their kind and warm-hearted servers. Will repeat.

Sarah C.

Yelp
It's very hard to find an Asian restaurant with a diaper changing table inside the bathroom. Very roomy and clean so this is a plus for parents with young ones Now moving on to the food. Most entrees are spicy so if you can't eat handle the heat you can order the bbq skewers. I was surprised that they ran out of chicken skewers so early, around 4ish. If you turn to the last page of the menu, you can order $9.95 dishes (come with rice) and add $2 for fruit tea. I made a mistake and ordered the drink first before food. Chongqing chicken rice - full on spicy!! The seeds numb my lips. The chili oil totally soaked into the rice. I literally had to remove the seeds at the end because i wanted to taste my other entree. Mostly bones with little meat. I thought I ordered spareribs. The flavor was excellent though Beef noodle soup - if you don't like the sight of tendon and fatty meat, then don't order. The broth is earthy and heavily spiced with Chinese herb. Noodles are cooked right for my toddler. Parents would like it to be more al dente Kumquat lemon tea - refreshing but very sweet. go chi is also a hot pot joint so I may go back for it.

John P.

Yelp
Fantastic prices, even better food. I feel like getting Chinese food guarantees you spend $20+ on a good dish. I got the sautéed beef with green peppers as a lunch special, $13 including rice and bok choy. Reasonable amount of spicy, great flavor. So happy to have found this gem, will definitely be going back frequently.

Tiffany D.

Yelp
This place beings authentic northern Chinese cuisine to Malden! I really enjoyed my meal here, although a bit pricey. We got the hot pot skewers (assorted but we had to have a min of 15 skewers), Mao's Braised Pork with Brown Sauce, and Beef Stew Noodle Soup. The flavors were definitely there - and I enjoyed it so much. Especially the Braised Pork! In my prior experience, I've almost always came across braised pork that was a bit too sweet, but the flavor here was perfect. Also have to note, when this place says "spicy", they definitely mean SPICY. But, spicy in an extremely flavorful, numbing way. The only thing I would say would be that the front desk service could be a bit better - we waited for a few minutes confused, wondering if we were supposed to sit ourselves because nobody was there until someone noticed us. But, our waiter was super friendly and helpful!

Freya L.

Yelp
I thought I wouldn't care about the terrible service because I like the dishes here. But I was wrong. Their service is extremely horrible. No water, no napkins, it seems that their waiters just can't see or hear you at all. When you want to get the check, the waiter says OK to you and disappears and never shows up again in like 40 minutes. Because of such bad service I prefer taking out. But they say that their best house special sweet and sour crispy pork is not allowed to take out and if you want to enjoy that dish, you'll have to dine in and bear with the worst service ever. I really don't think they deserve any tips at all.

Changle J.

Yelp
Really legit NE Chinese cuisine!!! I really like this restaurant!!! Five stars!!! If you are looking for sampling some tasty Chinese food, this would be a great choice!

Bowen Y.

Yelp
The server didn't accept the credit card directly and asked me to read credit card number in public, which is ridiculous. I have paid 3 times with credit card here last week and this is the first time I get declined and be asked to read my credit card credentials. I could understand the risk they wanna avoid under pandemic but such a request is braindead.

Jeff R.

Yelp
Day-yum! This place is great. Had cumin beef, ma po tofu, and fried rice. Amazingly good! I'll be back. Y'all need a liquor license. All that was missing was a giant bottle of 雪啤酒。

Lu K.

Yelp
Amazing authentic dongbei food. The Guo bao Rou (crispy sweet and sour pork) is phenomenal.

Shugang P.

Yelp
The dishes we ordered were authentic; the portions were reasonable; the service was nice and quick. It is like dining at a popular cuisine in China, which makes me feel like life is good again. I tipped 20%, and will definitely go back again to try other dishes.

Manfred S.

Yelp
Now you have to imagine how the rating would be, if GoChi had a beer license. Contrary to some single-review-trolls, the food is very authentic north-eastern Chinese. Of course it isn't Cantonese for the geographically challenged. And definitely not Americanized. My favorites to-date: Lamb skewers Dongbei cold noodle Vegetarian three treasures (eggplant, peppers, potatoes) Dongbei braised spare ribs Hell spicy calamari (oh yes, wonderful hell, and here the beer is definitely missing)

Tian Z.

Yelp
They claim to be authentic northeastern Chinese food. Well, flavor is closer to their claim than quality. We ordered a "crispy pork with sweet sour sauce". From the photo you can see that there's barely any meat in it. The other dishes contained so much MSH that my tongue was numb after the meal for the rest of the day. Will never go again.

Ray R.

Yelp
It is actually 3* and a half, close to 4*. This place serves the food from north China. First thing to mention, the sizes of their dishes are just like the restaurant name. The dishes are all large potions. We tried lamb skewer which is the best because of the proper spicy level. The dish fried pork is kind of sour but not bad. North China is famous for its noodle product, so we tried their dumplings. The taste is not bad. However, the dumpling skins are obviously not hand made. The server was full of passion which is fantastic. This makes you have a feeling of north China. As a recently opened restaurant, they are doing a great job. Wish they keep the large potion style and increase the detailed taste a little bit.

Yan S.

Yelp
The food was excellent and so was the service. It has a very nice ambiance. It also has my favorite bubble tea. Highly Recommended!

Edward W.

Yelp
My friends and I went to this restaurant for dinner last November. We ordered the Sauteed Leaf Lettuce with Fried Dace in Black Bean sauce, barbecued chicken wings, Dongbei braised spareribs, Marinated egg yolk baked with pumpkin, and pork belly stew with clear noodles. I liked the sauteed lettuce and baked pumpkin the most. I wasn't a big fan of the meat dishes.

Allie S.

Yelp
I came to Go Chi for dinner with a friend who wanted me to try northern Chinese food rather than the usual Cantonese food I am most familiar with. Since I can't handle too much spice we settled on the Crispy Twice Cooked Pork in Sweet and Sour Sauce and the Black Pepper Beef as our main entrees. For vegetables we ordered the Sauteed Lotus Root with Snow Peas and Cashews dish. All the food was wonderful and the serving size was more than enough for two people plus leftovers. Definitely a place I would visit again to try other things in the menu.

国庆

Yelp
Highly recommended. Favriote Chinese Authentic food in the town. I do recommend some of their signature dishes like spare ribs and spicy chicken. go there every single week. They know me well since I go there a lot. I feel home every time I get there.

Nathan L.

Yelp
[Short Review MY RATING: 15%] My family came here the night I returned on break from college one night and we left neither satisfied nor full, contrary to this restaurant's namesake, which ironically literally translates from Mandarin as "Enough to Eat." We did not come here intentionally, however--Ming's was unexpectedly booked--and we won't be back again. The staff were decently nice, but the food took way longer to serve than the emptiness of the restaurant would have suggested. My problem, however, lies not in that: the one aspect of a restaurant that to me outweighs all other aspects combined is its food quality. And Go Chi was really disappointing on that end. All the dishes were expensive, shockingly small and all featured the misplaced motif of spicy light-green colored peppers that were neither tasty nor authentic.

Jingyi X.

Yelp
We order delivery from here several times and they have pretty good food! The boiled beef is quite authentic. The beef is very tender and flavorful. We also tried the boiled fish, the flavor was good but the fish has quite strong fishy flavor. The house special stew is a bit disappointing. It was very watery and the soup was very greasy. The meat was also way too fatty. The mapo tofu is pretty good. There are still many things on the menu we want to try. Will definitely order from here again.

Maggie Xiaojun C.

Yelp
Got take out from this restaurant for the first time last night and was disappointed. The cheap plastic lid breaks into the crispy twice cooked pork and made it not eatable. It is impossible to pick out small piece of plastic out of the dish. I was trying to call the restaurant to let them know about what I am seeing, but no one pick up the phone. The reason for this post is want to get in touch with the owner and alert them to be careful with the type of container they are using, the lid certainly cannot handle hot temperature.

M L.

Yelp
I get take out from here on Chowbus and love their skewers esp the lamb and chicken. Their mooshu pork is awesome alone with their Korean style cold noodle as well as pork belly and veggie stir fry!

Bonnie L.

Yelp
There are so many great dishes there I can always find something else to order and love every single dish of it. My absolute favorite has been the tomato beef soup. Decent size portion to share with a few people. The garlic seaweed is awesome as well. I honestly believe anything on the menu is good.

Yun L.

Yelp
It's bad Taste and experiment in this restaurant. The ingredient and raw material are not fresh, the dishes smell bad. No return order and service bad.

Tien C.

Yelp
Great authentic Chinese food. Amazing quality and quantity. They follow the Covid protocol well to only allow for take out. One of a few restaurants remains their quality during the pandemic.

Wonting L.

Yelp
I had a very disappointing experience last Sunday - 1. Food was little bit oily but overall fine. 2. Service was ok and good at "up-selling" pricey food. 3. No promotion at all even though it was written on a social media, and the wait did not ask the manager and simply rejected at all. 4. Checked my bank today and found out it was charged more (even though it's not much). To be frank, I don't feel like I gonna go for a second time.

Han X.

Yelp
Raised price in two days with no reflection on the menu. Very dishonest. Raised price in two days with no reflection on the menu. Very dishonest. Raised price in two days with no reflection on the menu. Very dishonest

Kun W.

Yelp
Always good as before pandemic! Hopefully the menu could also be as rich as before-since some tasty dishes are no longer served, I have no idea why it's permanent or just for now.

Vidhi L.

Yelp
This was my second time visiting this restaurant, and it was even better the second time around. The restaurant offers authentic northern chinese food (not the typical "american chinese" dishes), so be prepared to try something new! We started with the lamb skewers, which are DELICIOUS. They have a smokey flavor, a little heavy on the cumin (but I prefer the extra flavor), so they really hit the spot. For our main courses, we ordered the Dongbei style cold noodles and shredded pork with garlic chili sauce. They were large portions of food, more than enough for two people. The noodles had a great texture, and the peanut sauce was a little on the watery side, but still very flavorful. The spicy pork was SO good, we couldn't put our chopsticks down, although it was a bit on the oily side (which was fine for me because I just avoid the bottom part of the serving dish). I can't give a 5 because the menu itself is a bit unprofessional. I understand it is a pretty authentic chinese restaurant, so spellings might be incorrect, but one entree description wasliterallywrittenwithnospacesinbetweenthewordsandsentences. Also, a couple dishes were listed twice, with two different prices. We actually ordered the "cheaper" dish, but the server did come over to let us know about the issue. Overall, food is excellent and I will be coming back.

Galina M.

Yelp
Very busy restaurant during peak hours. If you are visiting with a lot of people don't forget to make reservations. Food is very authentic, definitely bring Americans there to try real Chinese food!! Staffs there are also friendly.

Sophie W.

Yelp
Ordered twice crispy pork and it sounded delicious, but the wrong dish came to our table. Didn't eat it. Hot pot had no flavor, and the menu should definitely mention that "beef hot pot" means tripe. Rice was good. One star.

Moxi L.

Yelp
Solid BBQ skewers. I have tried all BBQ around the Malden area and this is the best. Love their lamb skewers especially. I also like their milk tea.

Vanessa O.

Yelp
5 stars for taste of food, 4 stars for service (it was a little hard to find a server sometimes because they were so busy, but overall, decent service) Now let's talk about food. There were so many things that we wanted to try but some will just have to wait for next time. All the food we ordered were authentic and delicious, I am glad that they opened in Malden. 1. Lamb skewers - strong cumin flavor with a lot of spices, definitely has a kick to it. All the adults loved it, the kid couldn't eat it because it was too spicy. 2. Cold noodles with kimchi, sausage and cucumbers - The noodles had a very nice chewy texture and the broth was a good balance of sweet and sour. Very refreshing for the summer! 3. Braised pork with bean noodles - I am actually not sure what this dish is called, I am just translating from Chinese. This tasted like home-cooked food to me, very yummy. Eat this while it is hot, it got a little greasy for my liking once it cooled down. 4. Yuxiang sliced pork - seriously authentic and legit! very generous with the dried chilies, a bit too spicy for the kid. 5. Spicy calamari - nothing too special, but was good too. 5. Fried Taro with sugar - I loved this! It is a simple dish of fried taro coated in sugar but it tasted so good especially when it was served hot. They also have a few beverages such as sweetened tea, pear juice drink that you can usually find in China. Overall, wonderful authentic food. I will definitely be back!

Ashley M.

Yelp
I have been craving for guōbāoròu for days and found this restaurant online. And this is the best guōbāoròu(listed as twice fried sweet and sour pork in the menu) had in the states. Although I am new to the area, I am pretty sure it's one of the best Chinese restaurant in Boston area. I also had mapo tofu. It came with steamed choy and rice. It wasn't spicy nor salty. I was pretty satisfied with mapo as well.

Tommy S.

Yelp
I love their steamed pork dumplings. They taste fresh like homemade dumplings. The filling is plentiful and delicious. I also like their 'Three treasures' 地三鮮 (eggplant, potato, and pepper). Their other dishes are just average though.

Lin Y.

Yelp
Highly recommended northern authentic chinese food. Will visit again soon! One of the best Chinese restaurants in great Boston area.
