We honestly don’t know what we were served today.
This was our 4th or 5th visit, and something was clearly wrong this time. For reference, our last visit was just a month ago.
We ordered cod, but what we got looked like a thin, eel-shaped piece, already falling apart with the inside exposed. The texture was nothing like the fluffy, moist cod we remembered—it was sticky, soggy, and the batter had almost no flavor. It truly felt like scraps that should have been discarded were somehow put together and served to us.
Today was supposed to be a very special day for us. Exactly 10 years ago, on September 23rd, my mother and I discovered the best fish & chips of our lives at this very shop during our first trip to Vancouver. Over these 10 years, so much has happened: I finally started my long-dreamed Canadian life, and my mother, after years of cancer treatment, finally reached a stable stage. Coming back here together today was meant to be a celebration of that journey and a once-in-a-lifetime moment.
But instead, it was deeply disappointing. We don’t want to leave it as a bad memory, so we’re hoping to give the restaurant another chance while my mother is here for the next two weeks. But honestly, after today’s experience, we’re afraid of being served the same thing again.
