Go Go Curry Times Square

Just tried Go Go Curry for the first time in years, and wow, the prices have definitely increased! The Home Run Curry set used to be around $17, but now it's closer to $21. It also seems like they might be giving slightly less rice and vegetables. Despite the price bump, the food was still delicious, just like I remembered. And pro tip: definitely get the pork katsu over the chicken!

The style of curry at this place is good and ordering here is quite easy. This is definitely more of a take out location rather than a dine in one. While there are seats and tables available there are no restroom facilities available.

Been going to this location for over 15 years. This is a spot me and my siblings go to whenever we go to time square for quick lunch/dinner. What happened? This would be 5 stars everything the last time I was here. There were no more stainless steel plates. It was just on the to go bowls. And the serving was half the size of what it used to be. So weird. I asked to separate the curry sauce and the crew just looked at each other with a roll on their eyes. Sorry if I asked too much. The staff were always nice before. From what I remembered they usually have a container for separate sauce. Surprised today with the serving size, service and the place. No more Hideki Matsui clips inside. It used to be full of Matsui memorabilia. Food is still good but different than before, not as amazing as before, a little less tasty. Also they used to use thinly sliced cabbage on the side, this time they used like those prepacked salad on the side. Maybe this change was due to the pandemic. Did not want to leave a review but was really looking forward to eating here, but was disappointed on how it went. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The store is showing its age but overall is clean.I ordered the chicken and it was fresh, hot and cooked well. Overall it was good, but I would not go out of my way for it. There was plenty of food, mostly rice, but still good.

Today I ordered vegetable tempura those cabbage that they usually used wasn't the same one. It was shredded coleslaw but bit thick like American style salad. I was disappointed because I miss eating there in the past. The food was all right. If it serve with the usual japanese style shredded cabbage I would had enjoyed it. But I will give it a 4 stars since I enjoyed my time with my good friend.

We were surprised at how small the location was. Nonetheless we had a good curry meal. The curry was seasoned well and the chicken katsu was super crispy. I also liked the raw cabbage a lot. Oh and the Yuzu soda was great.

The place is nothing fancy and the price is cheap, but the food was awesome. Their Japanese curry tasted great and hot, especially the katsu curry. We have had them many times so far and never felt disappointed with our meals here. They also delivery to our house at Kips Bay Area, so that is another great plus.

I've toyed with trying to post reviews and become part of the Yelp Elite (tm) as I'm such a foodie and love trying new places. This is my foray into that journey for one reason: The Curry Man. Last spring I visited Japan, and first happened upon Go Go Curry in Hiroshima. The kids meal featured The Curry Man, and I simply had to meet him. I was not disappointed and proceeded to make my entire party find another Go Go Curry in Kyoto a week later so I could be reacquainted. When I happened across a Go Go Curry in New York City of all places, I screamed in the street. The Curry Man was here, in the US, waiting for me. They don't have a kids menu here, but the Very Nice Lady running it was able to ring him up as separate ingredients and assemble him based on the many pictures I have. I waited 10 minutes for him, and then there he was in front of me. He was larger than I remembered, but I didn't mind. It was just more for me to love. I sat in the window seat, listening to the Japanese ads playing. The place was empty, the sunlight streamed through the window, and it was an intimate and enjoyable experience between me and the one thing that's ever understood me. The curry was rich, the shrimp tempura crispy and juicy, and I've never felt more fulfilled. Thank you, Go Go Curry NYC. And thank you, dear reader, for coming on this journey with me.

Go! Go! Curry in Times Square, which also made an appearance at Anime NYC, offered a quirky take on Japanese curry with its gorilla mascot and bright yellow branding. The place didn't take itself too seriously, as if there was an inside cultural joke that American patrons might not fully grasp. The curry, however, fell short of expectations. While warm and comforting, its flavor leaned salty and muddy, lacking the depth of traditional Japanese curry--no vibrant hints of ginger, vegetables, or apple-like sweetness. Instead, it felt like a generic sauce draped over white rice. The Katsu Curry, featuring fried chicken, pork, and tofu, was perhaps the best part of the meal. The katsu itself was chewy and satisfying, but the dark curry sauce served more as a coating than the star of the dish. The location featured a self-checkout screen for ordering, which added a modern touch, and the food was prepared by chefs who appeared to be Japanese--though it wasn't entirely clear if the entire staff shared the same heritage. You could see the chefs at work, carrying what looked like fresh ingredients, while a pot and instant rice cooker stood in the background. Things were clearly made fresh, which was a positive aspect of the experience. It's not surprising that this Times Square location has since shuttered. Fortunately, Go! Go! Curry has other spots, including in Queens, where fans of its unique take on Japanese comfort food can still enjoy the experience.

Upon stepping inside the self-served eatery, the staff greets you and you walk up to place an order in the front. Bought a regular chicken katsu curry ($16.95 + $1.50 tax = $18.45 total) for here. There're actually several locations in NYC since it's a franchise brand. Prices have been raised due to inflation times. Apparently, the katsu curry varies in meat, veggies, tofu or seafood. Also, current curry sizes are regular or large. Seems to have gotten rid of the small which was still available from last year. The regular is just the right size if you're not too hungry. Additionally, staff said both sizes are actually pretty similar with the large having more rice than the regular. They also have appetizers, toppings, combo meals, drinks, sauces, and mochi as dessert on the menu. Ambiance is a no frills looking kind of eatery but you can hear Japanese ads being played on TV. There're exactly 16 metal stools as the seating, so you might've to switch to take out if there're no more seats left. It's a small space after all. Love that there're several wall outlets over or under the table(s) wherever you're sitting. Staff is polite and service tends to be fast. When you get your order, they only provide you with a fork and no spoon. Hopefully there'll be spoons and chopsticks in the future as it's hard to scoop all the rice with a fork without dropping pieces back into the container. I wish the breading of the chicken cutlet would have been more crispy. I like the taste of the thicker textured Japanese curry sauce because it's very savory and flavorful poured over white rice. The curry gets soaked in the soft and fluffy rice which is tasty in every bite. The raw shredded lettuce makes an odd side dish to the cutlet and rice but oh well, it is what it is. I don't know if it's just me, but the food portion wise looks smaller than before from being placed inside the to-go containers even if you plan on eating it here. I sure miss when the food is still in a metal tray/dish. I'm guessing they've made the switch because it's probably way less work for them to clean up. We all know that the price has definitely gotten higher. Now, shouldn't the portion still stay the same though? They've the AC turned on inside Go! Go! Curry! Lastly, there's no public restroom for customers inside so I hope you'll have a Plan B or can run to the nearest one in the neighborhood.

Place is a dump and it's extremely filthy inside. Cashier was super friendly but dripping with sweat and handling packaging and cleaning without gloves. Even sneezed without covering his mouth. As for the food, I for the Chicken Katsu Curry. Lacked any real flavor, the cabbage was just pointless and almost $20? SO many better options around for katsu curry.

I love Go! Go! Curry! For a quick and filling meal. I like that they have a vegetarian curry option. Only thing- I've heard the vegetarian curry tastes a lot like Indian curry not Japanese.

The missus picked up dinner here one night; 2 of the pork katsu entrees (Panko-breaded fried pork cutlet, drizzled with tonkatsu sauce, served with shredded cabbage and Japanese homemade curry over rice. Curry sauce contains pork.). She got the (S) size; turns out there's 3 sizes. I forget what the price was for each, but it was probably ~$11. The portion size was ridiculous. I've always thought the food wasn't too healthy for you; but it sure is yummy. I would recommend paying the extra for the bigger sizes. We've ordered here off & on over the years; won't be going back after this.

Walking past Go! Go! Curry! It wasn't hard to notice since there was the signature gorilla on the front, though walking in its very small and tight area. Not the cleanest place, though it's a quick bite to go. Pork was tender and the chicken was soft. The food was delicious, but was definitely in need of a drink. Sadly not going to pay for overpriced drinks, so we just had water. Sitting down and eating, I would say to just have music playing because the TV was just running Japanese commercials, while it is to make it feel more authentic if got a bit annoying (I am saying this as well because I do understand Japanese.) Otherwise I'd come back again only if in need of a quick filling bite.

This is primarily a takeout joint, but tables are available to sit if you would like. I ordered from my desk and oddly enough the ordering form said it would be available immediately. I took about ten minutes to mosey over and they were still working on my order. Not a big deal. It took less than two minutes for them to finish up. Plus the restaurant was fairly empty. I got the chicken katsu with veggie tempura on top. The chicken was solid, though a little dry. The veggie tempura was more of a veggie pancake that was deep-fried. I don't know much from Japanese curry, but I enjoyed it. It is a pretty mild flavored sauce served over steamed sticky rice with cabbage. I thought the cabbage was a weird addition, but together it all really worked. I also got a fun Japanese yuzu soda which was delicious. The food was fine, the staff was great. But only about 20 minutes after finishing my meal, I found myself feeling pretty sick. It's possible that I just am not used to the ingredients in this meal, but I probably won't order here again.

First restaurant my family and I went to when we got to town. Good food! Not the traditional Japanese curry I'm used to. The curry sauce is darker and tasted smokey. Tasty nonetheless! I'd come here again. The wait for food was normal. Not fast or slow. We did have to wait for seating since the restaurant is small and my family is a group of 7.

Quick service and delicious food. The food was so good that we finished it within 10 mins. Nothing else needs to be said.

Service was terrible. The guy managing the register takes my order and I'm waiting 20 minutes for a simple meal. people after me are getting their order and when I asked what's up I get brushed off. Then I see the guy in the backing making it and then messing with my food! NEVER GOING BACK

My first visit after a number of years. There are now a couple of additional Asian takeout place next door. The place looks the same, but there have been tremendous price increases. The order taker could not have been more complacent. I ate in, so I waited for the food. As other people placed their order, the order taker said exactly the same thing. I don;t think he wanted to be there. Nevertheless, the food was still god - just expensive.

We shared the "Grand Slam" and it was delicious but very rich. A lot of fried items but the curry sauce was so yummy, I really enjoyed it!!! Service was good, but this is a fast food restaurant and not table service. I would definitely recommend Go Go Curry and return!!!

The portion is perfect and the curry is really tasty. There was a good amount of different combos available and add-ons on the menu. I was kind of excited to find that they were a franchise and had multiple locations. Will definitely be back and adding this to one of my favorite spots. There is some seating inside the restaurant, but it appears most people just come and go.

I went to get lunch from here as earlier in the week the food was delicious. I ordered the pirk this time as i wanted to give it a try but was a little disappointed. I previously had ordered a medium size meal but wanted a large this time. I thought I'd get more food and protein with the meal but it felt like it was sooo much less protein but lots of rice and little of the curry. I had also asked for more cabbage but didn't receive any. When entering to pick up my lunch i did notice that there was a different cook and cashier than earlier in the week which is probably why the meal felt different. I think they need to get a better understanding of the meal sizes.

See I don't do reviews anymore and haven't done so in a while, but I just had to. Was originally supposed to go to the one on 53rd, but the whole street is closed. Made my way to this location and I'm glad I did. Came here around 3pm, and it was pretty empty. Service was great and food was fast and definitely hit the spot. Tofu Katsu Not only that the team, was legit. Chill and down to earth. Shoutout to Ted & Leanne (sorry I that's not how you spell your name) but y'all are sick. Actually to the whole team here. Takeout focused, "large" portions are large. Wouldn't exactly call this "Times Square" as it's in a bit of a no-man's land. The prices have apparently gone up by 50% or more compared to old reviews and prices posted here. Pretty crazy.

GoGo Curry is the Japanese curry that everyone should know about. I found out about GoGo when my best friend lived in Japan. We went to GoGo curry almost every other day while I was visiting. This location wasn't too far off from the Japanese ones. If Japan is a perfect 10 that means this location is about a 8.5 or a 9 so we're all good. The inside isn't too big so good luck getting a seat unless you're there very early like I was. One thing that had me laughing was how this location doesn't give you enough curry for the rice just like Japan so MAKE SURE YOU ORDER EXTRA CURRY you'll thank me. Ordered the Chicken Katsu Home Run combo but I added Pork Katsu with it. The Pork Katsu was outstanding but the chicken katsu was just good. Not bad, not amazing just good, but the curry OHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHH that rice was DRENCHED in all of that beautiful deliciousness. The egg & shrimp was too good with my katsu also. I'm so happy GoGo Curry exists in the states. Great place for Japanese Curry if you're ever in the area MAKE SURE you stop by here!

Addictive curry that packs a punch. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The shrimp is always juicy and crispy, and the sausages are perfect. The blend of rice, curry, cabbage, and meat is just delicious. And the sizes are bountiful. You can't go hungry. Also, there is extremely quick and friendly service at this whole in the wall joint.

As a first time customer, the food, service and ambiance was perfect. I don't have a picture of what I ate available at the moment. I can tell what I ate though.. I had the Curry Pork Katsu and it was very delicious! Would definitely go back and recommend to others I know.

I used to love getting curry from this chain. I haven't been to this specific location so this review isn't for the company but more for this place in particular. I got a regular fish curry katsu. I didn't remember it being so expensive but i was craving it so I was willing to shell out $20 for a regular. When i opened the container I was surprised to see THREE pieces of katsu. I've never gotten this little amount before in my life for gogo curry. the service was slow too but that was to be expected when only 2 people were working which i understand. anyways i'm never getting food from here again. very disappointed to say the least

I have been going to go go curry for years whenever I want to get some reliable, delicious cheap eats in the area. Unfortunately, their prices has gone up exponentially. Now even the most basic menu item (katsu curry) costs $13 when it used to be less than $10 just 2 years ago. I supposed they need to stay afloat amidst covid, but even the quality of the food has gone down. The curry is pretty tasteless and I have trouble finishing my portion when I used to have no problem in the past. Other than the food, the location is convenient and they allow dine-in with proof of vaccination. The staff is friendly and the place is cleaned after every guest.

I got the kana veggie platter, which is definitely a bit too much for one person. The food was all delicious! The whole gorilla theme is a little kitschy, but funny all the same. There isn't much seating at this location, so takeout might be a better option.

I went go go curry for lunch today . I used to go there (38 st) twice a week and I haven't been there for a year . I went to close from Washington sq shop and order fish katsu curry today . Curry was good as usual and fish was ok ~ but rice was really bad !!! Normally those Japanese shop use Japanese rice for sure but this was def Thai rice or something bad quality . For curry , rice is soul ! And it was even very dry and I was wondering or we of shop knew this ?? I don't think so !

Pricey! $12.95 + tax for a small chicken katsu curry. One does not get as much rice with the katsu curry. The cashier told me a large only ends up giving more rice, but the curry and katsu portion is the same. Decent, but would only come back if I really had a major Japanese curry craving. Another possible option would be to buy their curry and then make at home with my own toppings.

Food (5/5): Awesome Japanese curry that's always delicious whenever I come. If you can eat a large portion go for the grand slam since you get many meats in one. Otherwise, just a regular chicken curry is tasty. Venue (3/5): Somewhat small venue with limited seating and from what I recall no bathroom. Usually most people go for takeout though, so you'll probably be able to find seating. Service (4/5): The service is rather curt, but you'll get your food quickly and they'll help you out with a cup of tap water if you ask.

I got a delivery order of the pork katsu. It was honestly pretty decent. The curry was a little thicker than I'd like but I was impressed with the portions.

First of all, shout out to the person working there. He was so relatable and all around a good vibe! My friend and I ordered the spicy pork combo (comes with Yuzu drink) and the Grand Slam pork curry. As per usual, it was delicious and amazing.

I had high hopes for this one. Came here excited to get some beef curry only to find out there's no beef served at this location. Maybe it was just this day that I went. Ordered the pork cutlet curry and added some corn. The sauce they drizzle over the pork had a real BBQ taste to it. Nothing really stood out from this was other than the dish came out pretty fast. Good for a quick lunch break meal but not something to go out of your way for.

Always stop by one of their many locations for some great katsu dishes! I've never been let down. The service is quick and friendly. The food is served piping hot and absolutely delicious. What more could you want? Oh! And it's cheap. So yeah, definitely come here.

I love a quick service go-to place for lunch. The S, M, L sizes are based on how much rice you'd like with your order. I got the S chicken curry and it was plenty big for a filling lunch. Curry in any cuisine is comforting, but there's something about the simplicity yet complex Japanese spices that makes Japanese curry my favorite. The thick brown sauce is rich and savory that pairs well with the katsu crusted chicken breast. Some cool shredded cabbage came with each plate order. There are some seating available at the restaurant and service was great. Go! Go! (get you some) Curry!

If you are craving japanese katsu curry this is the place to go. The katsu is very flavorful and crispy, and the flavor of the curry is good, authentic, and hits the spot. Portion sizes are good and pricing is reasonable. For me it seems like a lot of fried food with the rice and then fried cutlet and curry. I would've like some more greens or a soup or something to balance out the meal but as far as katsu curry it was completely solid. They also have a reward point system if you are a frequent customer.

Ordered delivery via Uber Eats with a coworker for lunch. Quick and easy delivery just before the lunch rush. Food was still warm when we got it. Good portion. Would definitely order again, if not stop by the store.

This is the spot I hit up whenever I'm craving some Japanese curry. The sauce is completely different from the typical stuff you get from golden curry roux blocks (which I'm sure 90% of the cities Japanese restaurants use), and portions are generous. The tonkatsu always comes out great and juicy. Will dock a star bc prices have definitely increased from what I remember a few years ago - this is not a cheap spot. If you get delivery it comes out closer to a $25 meal.

I have been meaning to try Go Go Curry for years and I finally did it. Go Go Curry is a Japanese curry chain with a baseball theme. If you order on a day ending in 5, they give you a coupon for a free topping on your next visit (go means five in Japanese). I ordered the pork home run curry which includes rice, a pork katsu, pork sausage, shrimp tempura, and an egg. It was very good for a chain. I especially enjoyed the shrimp. There was the perfect amount of curry for the rice. It was a lot of food!

True to the name this feels like a more fast-food curry place, but the dishes still hit the spot! A good deal cheaper than Abiko Curry, though you don't get as many customization options like spice levels, which I would have liked. We both got the tonkatsu curry; the meat and curry were both delicious, but the side of cheese I got came on the side in a cup, not melted into the curry like I was expecting.

For those of you who used to eat at this location back in the day as a must eat near Times Square and Jacob Javits Center after a night out or conventions, this is no longer the same taste, quality, nor experience. The curry is no longer extremely flavorful and thick, the chicken Katsu is no longer lightly crunchy and moist, and the rice is no longer cooked to the perfect level of al dente. In fact, the curry there is water down and bland in comparison, the chicken Katsu is thinly cut, stale crunchy, and a bit dry, and the rice is slightly overcooked to the point where it is sticking together in clumps and you can see how overcooked the rice is by looking at each grain. It is extremely sad for me too write this review, because it truly was a gem in the midst of many mediocre competitors located in a very unlikely, but convenient, location.

Found this spot while venturing around the city with a few of my good friends. The place is small and kind of cramped, probably even more during the busy hours. However, I kind of enjoy the small cramp feeling in my eating establishments. Even if the chairs aren't the most comfortable. I ordered the Chicken Katsu with white rice, mind you I never had Japanese curry before, not even Indian curry but Japanese curry is something I've always wanted to try. Especially their fried chicken cutlet. And I have to say, even though this is a small chain, the chicken was fried to perfection and the curry was so absolutely tantalizing. Combined with the white rice and shredded cabbage, it only made me appreciate possibly the very scarce time--or likely time--I'll ever get to try Japanese curry. Would it be crazy to say that the food even made the bottle of Coca Cola I bought with my meal taste better? Because it sure did! Portion size was perfect, and I even got to try some of my friend's Pork Katsu with Curry which also tasted fantastic. Have to make sure I order that next time I come here if I'm ever in the city, which is rare. The side of veggie Fried Gyoza we shared was also delicious but it did leave a bit to be desired for me. Maybe the veggie gyoza wasn't for me, perhaps the chicken or shrimp option will win me over. Definitely give Go! Go! Curry a look if you want to try Japanese curry or looking for a nice warm meal in the city.

This little gem in New York was amazing. I had the chicken Katsu which comes in a pork curry. The staff was quick to point that out. The staff was super nice and served with a song on their lips. The place is small so you may need to done on a bar like table. The price was super reasonable and service was quick. So if you are craving good Japanese curry in Manhattan, this is the place to be.

I found myself starving while waiting for the Carly Rae Jepsen concert to start around the corner at the Hammerstein Ballroom, so I had someone hold my spot in line and walked over to Go! Go! Curry! I will say that it's a small space with friendly and efficient service. I had my curry combo with fried chicken in less than 10 minutes. The food wasn't horrible by any means, but when I compare it to other delicious curry dishes I've had at other Japanese restaurants, the food I had here was just okay. Would I eat here again, absolutely, but would I go out of my way to eat here again? ... Eh, probably not. I encourage you to try it out for yourself though.

I got the Grand Slam here, which comes with rice topped with chicken and pork katsu, fried shrimp, cabbage, eggs, and sausage. This is the perfect serving size for two. The chicken and pork katsu are nicely seasoned. They're crunchy on the outside but tender on the inside. I usually prefer the chicken a little bit more. The sauce is extremely flavorful. It is quite salty, but pairs very well with the rice and the rest of the toppings. The service here is also very quick, and they're usually not too crowded. I'd also recommend getting the free extra cabbage.

Big portions, delicious curry, fast service, and no frills. I don't know what else you could want from a counter top curry restaurant.

I order pork katsu curry via mealpal Wait about 5 mins. But totally worth to wait. Because the pork katsu was fresh and very crispy and crunch. Meat was pretty tender as well. There are several Go Go Curry locations in Manhattan and this is usually the one that I visit. The dining area is fairly small, but you do have the option of taking the food to-go. I almost always order either the Grand Slam or the Home Run with chicken. Lately I've been adding fukujinzuke. They have other additional toppings to add to your plate. Their katsu curry is one of the better ones that you'll find in the US without having to travel to Japan. During my numerous visits for lunch, I've always encountered friendly employees here. The food is good and the prices are pretty decent for the amount of food that you get. I will continue to keep on coming here!

This is definitely my go to spot for japanese curry. Visit this establishment several times and the last few I've had the fish katsu and shrimp tempura. I'm really glad they've added the fish katsu since I don't eat meat or poultry. The space is small but can fit quite a few people in the two tables and on the counter space. They offer water which is great especially if you don't want to purchase tea or any other beverage. It's really cute how they greet you as soon as you walk in, although I don't know what they're saying lol. If you haven't tried Go Go Curry, there're a few locations in the city conveniently located for those in the mood for japanese curry.
