Godaiko

Godaiko is truly one of Ann Arbor’s hidden gems. From the moment you walk in, the customer service is outstanding and the staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. The menu is packed with amazing traditional Japanese options, and the sushi bar is on a whole other level with creative, fresh, and exciting rolls you won’t find just anywhere. I highly recommend checking out both their lunch and dinner menus because there’s so much to love on each. Their bar menu is just as impressive, filled with unique and delicious drinks that pair perfectly with the food. The staff is always happy to give recommendations and trust me, you should absolutely trust them. My go to sushi order is the Wild Roll and the River Dragon and they never disappoint. If you’re in Ann Arbor and love great food, Godaiko is a must. 🍣🍶

First time, so lots to take in. Good menu, lots of items, starter, noodle dishes, Ramen, sushi and sashimi items, Japanese steak house style, even an area with traditional Japanese seating. Service was good, but they had a lot of take out orders and the sushi chef was a little overwhelmed. We had an eel roll and a lobster with black caviar, avocado. Both were good eel was the favorite and it was a large roll. Chicken Ramen noodle was excellent and my wife had Godiako flying noodles also excellent and plenty of food, we brought home lunch from both meals. Tea was so hot we couldn't pick up the cups, but tasted great. One of the best Asian meals in the area.

We were extremely excited to try this place but were super disappointed in the service. A lot of our order came late and when it did it was cold. The server simply forgot about us. Then, they were cranking out takeout orders right in the middle of the restaurant which looked really messy. The food was good so I want to try this place again with a different server and when it’s less busy. But today it was not great. 😩

This is truly a little gem. My fiancé saw an IG video about this place so we decided to try it. The food was flying noodle dish was amazing. The before fried rice was a little greasy. I do still highly recommend.

Omg, last week I had lunch there and the food was delicious with big portions and we got free japanese salad. I had the spicy seafood ramen and my husband had sushi. There was free sushi on Friday. Everything was delicious and the prices were affordable.

I came in for the buy-one-get-one-free sushi deal, but the quality and taste were disappointing compared to other sushi places. The service was just okay—the waitress kept passing by without checking if we needed anything, and when we tried to get any of the server’s attention, two girls quickly rushed back to the kitchen. Overall, the food was mediocre and the service wasn’t great. I won’t be returning.

Met my besty for dinner here last night (it was not my first time). It was busy, especially for a week night. There were lots of families, couples, groups if friends, young and old. We waited a very long time for both drinks and to have our order taken. The server, who was also the bartender, was nice but overwhelmed and all the staff seemed anxious to hustle everyone out before official closing time, which was 9 pm. But, before 9, they turned on all the bright lights, sending a not very welcoming signal. The food. I ordered the spicy wings, which were good and arrived piping hot in temperature --as they should. My only criticism of the wings is that they use the garlic that comes in a jar, pre-chopped. I hate that stuff. My friend ordered the tempura as an appetizer. It was cold on arrival as well as her entree of salmon. Although the salmon was cooked to order (not overcooked) which is excellent, it , too, and the miso soup, were served cold. The broccoli had a weird flavor, a "flavorless" flavor. It was old. Disappointing.

I absolutely love the food at Godaiko. It's somewhat pricey, but always worth it. The sushi portions are HUGE and the soups and bentos are fantastic. The family service is somewhat scattershot (especially wait times and the host station, which also takes care of the hopping take-out and delivery business) because the place is always busy. But once you're seated they're super friendly. Highly recommended if you have a little extra time and don't mind being patient.

Pan-Asian spot tucked away on the SW end of Ann Arbor, right off 94. My husband and I go here occasionally largely out of convenience because it's really close to us! Never have a problem getting a table - it's usually just the right amount of busy. Plenty of parking on site. I think they might share ownership or have an arrangement for ingredients with next door Asian market Tsai Grocery. Now I'm not usually a huge fan of Pan-Asian restaurants (as I generally think if you're doing it all, you're not necessarily doing it well), but Godaiko has some interesting/creative fusion-y twists on their menu. It really is a choose your own adventure type of place. You could visit multiple times and have a completely different type of meal and experience each time. Last night we were feeling like sushi, and throw in some crispy chicken sliders, why not. (The sushi isn't the best around, but it's good.) Some of my favorite menu items I've tried: - Lettuce Wraps! Generous amount and not too salty (which I find with other places' lettuce wraps); pineapple is a nice addition - Beef Maki; very flavorful - Sushi Tuna Nachos; unique and I like the thin taro chips - Kobe Cheese Burger; the Asian part of this is in the dressing/sauce, a pretty decent burger if that's what you're feeling like - Shrimp Tempura Udon; crispy tempura (served on the side) and a clean tasting broth - Bento Box; one of these can feed 2, it's a lot of food! Decor and ambiance is nice, and kind of fun with Asian art pieces on the walls and ceiling (look up!). Service is good. Full bar (beer, wine, liquor, sake, cocktails) with a daily all-day drink special. Some of their cocktails are interesting as well - one time tried a lychee saketini and enjoyed. Usually I stick with beer, wine, or sake though. Food portions and drink pours are generous!

I lived in Japan for years and this place blows a lot of those restaurants out of the water. I will personally fight the negative reviewers in the back of the nearest Waffle House @3am. To contact me for fisty cuffs-

Please be careful when you order online in Godaiko's website. it sends you to a link to UberEats. I placed an order believing I was at the restaurant's website and I was charged $58.09 for my order in my credit card. I went to pick up my order and I was told at the restaurant that my order was canceled by UberEats. I was not called or alerted that my order had been canceled. The supervisor tonight (6/20/24 at 7:30p) refused to honor my order despite showing the email with the credit card charge. The supervisor, who refused to provide her name, told me the restaurant was not responsible for UberEats and that they could do nothing and would not honor my order. It is not possible to contact UberEats to check what happened to my order and the reason it had been canceled. I feel that Godaiko is entirely responsible because they placed the link for UberEats in their website. I felt frustrated and disappointed that Godaiko did not honor my order and that the supervisor indicated it is not their responsibility. In short, Godaiko restaurant of Ann Arbor IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR AN ORDER PLACED IN THEIR WEBSITE. Manuel

Follow-up after my last review 8 years ago. Everything I wrote in that review still stands. The quality of the food and service and the value for the money is chef's kiss.

Half my salad was wilted. Cucumbers had gotten frozen not so good. Salad dressing yummy! Edamame yummy. Flying noodle good. Chicken terayaki awful. Chicken was like rubber and dry

The food is ok but udon is bit too savory.... Potion could be bigger like other Japanese restaurants

Overall, I thought this place was good. We went for a small birthday gathering, and they had the buy one roll, get one free. I thought the sushi was of an okay quality. The service was friendly, and the parking is pretty ample. It's not a place I would seek out, but would go again for the deals... should someone ask me.

Service is horrible. They are rude. The food is good but they are so rude you just can't believe it and they are very over priced.

Godaiko is located in a strip mall off of Ann Arbor-Saline road. It has been solidly serving sushi for at least 25 years. We ordered a Sapporo and looked over the menu. The lunch specials are amazing. Tasted and well priced. We got the sushi lunch roll special and the bento box. The rolls were fantastic! The bento box had a lot of small delights. This is the go-to sushi restaurant in Ann Arbor

Love this place. It tends to be a bit on the pricey side, but the portions are unusually large for a sushi restaurant. So she was quite good, the tempura in the Bento box lunch was very good. Service was pretty good. The waitress was having to hassle since she was the only one there. But I would not hold that against them.

If you want to be comfortable while eating, this is NOT the place to come. We typically carry out or get a booth. Food is good but that is only part of the experience. Last visit was indeed our last. Their main tables have chairs on one side and a 90-degree angled and harder than rocks bench on the other side. Five minutes sitting on that bench and my companion was ready to go - and we did about 15 minutes later. Not exaggerating to say it was torturous. We asked if we could sit in the section with booths explaining the bench was painful and were told they did not have enough waitstaff to open that section. There were literally three TOTAL tables with between two and four people. That's it. You can't walk the extra very little bit (even if you are busy) so we can actually be comfortable and enjoy our meal and time in the restaurant!?! So offended and upset, we will not be back carry-out or otherwise. Inexcusable.

Let's start with the service, which was absolutely abysmal. As soon as we walked in, it became painfully evident that the staff couldn't be bothered to acknowledge our presence, let alone provide basic service. We were neglected and ignored for an unreasonably long time. The server, if you could even call her that, exuded rudeness and impatience throughout our entire ordeal. It was a herculean task to gain her attention, and when we did, I couldn't believe how rude she was! And now, onto the food. I had initially held high hopes based on previous experiences eating lunch here over the last several years. But, the dishes, to put it kindly, were uninspired and utterly devoid of flavor. It felt as though the kitchen staff were merely going through the motions. I have had better sushi from the grocery store. In conclusion, Godakio was a colossal disappointment, a deplorable display of service, and mediocre at best food. I also saw a young girl who looked to be possibly 10 years old waiting on tables and delivering food. To say I won't be returning anytime soon is a colossal understatement. In the vicinity, there are countless superior sushi restaurants that offer an infinitely more enjoyable and satisfying experience. Steer clear of this place at all costs.

My work schedule has prevented me from visiting my home away from home. With my Austrian family in town, I was happy to use this opportunity to indulge in my fave haunt. We got all of the usual suspects, as well as the dynamite shrimp and asparagus tempura rolls. This place will always hold a special place in my heart!

My mom and I both got the Pork Katsu bowls which were very generous with their portions! It came with a miso soup and salad but we also noticed that the size of the salad got smaller compared to the last time we came. We also got the Tempura Shrimp roll because that was the roll that was buy one get one on Fridays.

Food was great! I ate until I was full. The chef came out of the galley twice after I returned the rest of my food and gave me dirty looks. If he was upset he could of said something instead of eyeing me down.

I'd been wanting to try Godaiko for ages and today's takeout lunch became my Bingo moment. Located in the Oak Valley plaza with plenty of parking, Godaiko bills itself as "Fine Japanese Cuisine". I could quickly see that their prices, especially for their Specialty Sushi Rolls, were easily 15 to 20% higher than your typical Sushi house in this area. The restaurant's interior is currently situated for 50% capacity in line with state guidelines. As I arrived to pick up my takeout order, it became apparent that Godaiko was severely understaffed. I waited almost 10 minutes before a server appeared and greeted me at the restaurant's reception area. By that time, two more parties had arrived and cued up behind me. Had I not already ordered by phone, after a 10 minute wait, I would have left and gone elsewhere. Godaiko may have also been short-handed in the kitchen as my takeout order was a full 20 to 25 minutes later than promised when I called my order in by phone. We ordered an container of Pork Gyozas as a starter followed by a Hawaiian Ahi Tuna Poke, a Breast Chicken Teriyaki lunch entree and an order of Spicy Kobe Beef Fried Rice. Despite the disappointing timing issues, we found the food to be fresh, good-tasting and of very generous portions. My bag easily weighed as much as a 10 lb. dumbbell. I would expect Godaiko to solve the staffing concerns before returning for lunch again.

Ate lunch there today. I should have known better because I saw uneaten sushi on vacates tables. I ordered a new menu item, Hibachi steak rice bowl. It was not either hibachi, or steak. It was a clump of shredded beef that had been simmered in a pot on the stove top. I ordered a sushi roll as well. Needless to say, I , too, left uneaten sushi on the table. Perhaps the food is better at night? Ambiance lacking as well.

Rude hostess for a first impression. Server was OK but forgot parts of our order and had to be reminded twice. No water refilled. Food was just OK. Place was empty at dinner time so I'm thinking there are other patrons who have found Godaiko not as great as it used to be. Probably won't return when I'm in Ann Arbor.

I'm familiar with Godaiko because I shop at Tsai Grocery often & they own Tsai (if you use your credit card, Godaiko shows up on your statement). I haven't really been compelled to go, but after fellow Yelper Radhika's stellar review - I figured I'd check it out. Of course - I was just craving my usual guilty pleasure -- the California roll. I love that they have BOGO here & they definitely don't skimp. I did a quick calc & Momo's regular combos are a SLIGHTLY better deal but Godaiko is closer to me and adds a generous amount of masago on top of the cali rolls! So, Godaiko for my guilty pleasure it is! It's also super easy to order online & pick up via UberEats so I place my order before I head into Godaiko to shop then finish shopping+pick up dinner on the way out. Easy peasy! I'll be back to try other offerings. Their ramen looks super tasty but a bit seems a bit pricey like the Black Kyushu Style Tonkotsu Ramen for $15. I'll have to come back when I can splurge. Also, when dine-in is open again, I'm definitely coming back to their bar. They have some awesome looking Japanese beers on tap!

Came here for some Japanese food with a couple of friends after a let down on Asian cuisine the night before. We were sat immediately and had water brought to us and I ordered a beer and it came pretty quick and with a chilled glass which was nice. The food selections were pretty immense, certainly going to be something for everyone. They even have burgers for your non Asian cuisine lovers. There were 4 of us in the party, I ordered the pure sorcery flying noodles, my friends ordered the udon noodles, Kobe beef fried rice, and bento box. First and foremost. Presentation was incredible. I was blown away. Secondly portion sizes are also incredible. Certainly don't need more than one dish and can forego any appetizer or sushi you might think you want or need. This was of course before I knew the size of the entrees and ordered a roll of sushi for the meal. I got the Paul's Big Roll which was supposed to have crab, mango, pine nuts, avocado and scallions, however it was missing the pine nuts and scallion. Not a deal breaker of course, but would have been a nice addition I think. The roll was $14 which is certainly on the pricy side. I enjoyed it very much, but would definitely not order it again. Based on other reviews, that I didn't read prior to coming, it seems price of their sushi vs the amount you get isn't worth it. The quality though is definitely amazing. Especially the salmon and tuna from the bento Box was incredible. Just again, pricy, so be prepared to pay. The menu does say flown in fresh daily, which seems like an exaggeration but if not, that explains the price for sure. I got a red bean sundae to split with my friend and for $6 you got quite a bit. All of the entrees were $15-25 but portions of everything were very worth it, all except the sushi.

I came here for lunch with friends who live nearby. The decor and food presentation is lovely. However the food was a disappointment as this is not authentic Japanese cuisine. That said, the service was good. Overall the food is edible but not great so just temper your expectations.

Although the food looks good, it was a disappointing experience. The breading of the calamari was okay, but nothing special. I also ordered the California Hot Roll for an insane $15.75, which is outrageous for a simple fried California roll. It was also not as tasty or original (for the price I'm paying) as I would've liked. How this is one of their most expensive roll is beyond me! My friend got the Red Curry Ramen and loved it though. This was a $50+ meal, but I will admit it was not worth the price. You're better off at any other sushi/ramen place in Ann Arbor, in my opinion!

I decided to visit the Godaiko for the first time in eight years. One of my friends from Yokohama, said that since this restaurant changed ownership a few years ago, the quality of their food isn't what it used to be. Since I was in the area, I decided to stop by for lunch to see how the place had changed over the years. The first thing I noticed upon entering the establishment was the place had been remodeled since the last time I was there in 2011. They now have rooms for large groups or parties, which wasn't there in the past. This is ideal if you and coworkers want to have a gathering for whatever reason, and enjoy some good food and drinks. I decided to order Chicken Teriyaki for lunch, and when it arrived at my table I was blown away at the size of the portions. This is more than enough for a large dinner at most restaurants. Likewise, the Miso soup was delicious, as was the salad that came with it. However, this is where the sunshine and lollipops end. The version of Teriyaki Chicken they serve is with white breast meat. I expected it to be tender enough to cut with my chopsticks, however, this was not the case. I had to struggle with a knife that had serrated edges and a fork to cut the meat into bite-size pieces. The chicken was on the dry side, and I have to believe it was overcooked since it was so tough to chew. That being said, the Teriyaki sauce was very good, and vegetables added a nice sense of balance to the entree. I am going to have to visit this place again, and either order lunch again, or dinner with a few friends from Tokyo. While the chicken was tough, the waitress I had did an amazing job.

You know that song where the ex made the jokes that he tells his new girlfriend? Well in this metaphor Godaiko is the joke, the ex is my ex, the new girlfriend is my girlfriend, and no one is driving alone past my street. Let's dive in. I had fond memories of Godaiko. My ex introduced me to the place before the pandemic, and dumped me shortly after it began. I remember it being phenomenal. The sushi was amazing, the service was personable, the appetizers were delicious. Even crying into my doordashed pork buns after getting dumped tasted better than it does today. We received a salad with dressing that tasted like the ginger stuff you'd get at Meijer. Nothing tasted fresh, sushi included. It honestly tasted worse than the stuff you'd pick up at Kroger. (Sensing a theme here?) The pork buns used to be fantastic but they were simply different. Not as complex, certainly not the same quality. The pandemic has definitely had a negative impact on restaurant quality, but Godaiko has been there since I was a kid. Was hoping it would be able to weather the storm. I really really want to change this review. I really want to like Godaiko again. The sushi used to be fantastic. But it's hard to justify coming here again without some kind of response as to how the quality will come back, because as of now it simply isn't the same.

This is a close favorite in Ann Arbor. Today I ordered the "Paul's big Roll" and the jumbo chicken wings. I am only doing 3 stars today because of the lack of attention from my server, mostly likely due to understaffing. She is running around a lot and not giving enough attention to her customers.

We decided to give Godaiko another try after an 8-year break. in 2015, we held our son's high-school graduation dinner here and five of the guests ended up with food poisoning. we figured enough time had passed that it was safe to try again. We were immediately seated -- it was a Tuesday evening -- and our drink orders taken just as swiftly. Our drinks came quickly, along with our appetizer, spicy edamame, which were delicious and plentiful. Thank goodness, because everything went downhill from there. Our salads were 90% iceberg with minimal dressings. My husband's beef was undercooked and unseasoned, and his broccoli was barely cooked, unseasoned, and yellowed with age. My oldest son's tonkatsu was also underseasoned, barely cooked, and -- as he put it -- worse than a prepackaged supermarket version. My two younger sons, who are vegetarians, couldn't find anything on the menu they could eat: there wasn't even a vegetarian ramen, udon, or rice option on the menu (not even the miso soup was vegetarian). They ordered the agadeshi tofu after verifying there was no bonito on it... and were each served four little cubes of tofu each. My sushi order -- a plum with mint roll and a cucumber roll -- arrived and I was surprised to see that double my order (I'd clearly ordered 1 of each). The plum roll was salty beyond belief. one of my sons tried it and we both agreed that it was so over salted that it could not be eaten. The cucumber roll was seasoned correctly, but the cucumber was unpeeled and the rice was undercooked. The cucumber roll was crunchy... something a cucumber roll should never be. It was absolutely unpalatable. so were the roasted king mushrooms, which looked so good on the menu. The poor trumpet mushrooms had been chopped into cubes and had been turned into spongy, squishy, squeaky squares that were not in the least recognizable as mushrooms. When our server finally checked back with us to give us our bill -- she had not come by even once to see how we were doing, how we liked our meal, or if we wanted drink refills -- we informed her we wanted to send the sushi rolls and mushrooms back and would like them removed from our bill. She reacted with surprise and took off without a word. She came back 10 minutes later and tried to give us the bill again. We once again indicated we were unhappy with the three dishes and wanted them removed from our bill. She asked what was wrong with them, and I told her quite bluntly that they were terrible, that the ingredients had been badly abused, and that the resulting dishes should never have been served. She told us she could not take the dishes off our bill because we had tasted them. SERIOUSLY? How would we have known if the food was edible or not if we hadn't tasted it???? We got stuck paying for three dishes that were too disgusting to eat, for four sub-par meals, and for the undeserved 20% gratuity that was automatically added to our bill because we were a party of 5. We went home and ate a real dinner there. Godaiko most definitely will NOT get a third try.

1. Don't order ramen soup, esp the shoyu ramen. It is soooo salty that you may need to call ambulance for it. I asked for a change right away. My boyfriend's "premium" ramen soup was a basic without any craftsmanship. Such a disappointment. 2. The spicy tuna roll is subpar. The Kroger's or any supermaket take out tuna roll is better than this. 3. One thing good is jumbo wings. Overall, I would not never go again.

The worst flavorless food! Sushi was tasteless and very carelessly made. The rolls were loosely rolled. Very unappetizing to look at. The wings were most likely from sams club - modified. Just a very bad experience with food.

I got the grilled chicken salad bowl with sesame dressing. They put it under "poke salad bowl" which I assumed came with rice but it does not just fyi! The chicken was very rubbery and not very tasty. The other ingredients were fine, but nothing special as they were just mostly raw veggies. Definitely not worth the hefty price tag for very very subpar cooked chicken

Ahi Nachos and. kirin made a nice meal. Wonderful staff. A long time A player in Ann Arbor Japanese food.

Absolutely delicious. Portions are large and sushi is so fresh every time! Staff was so sweet.

I have been hearing about Godiako forever. Anytime I mention sushi to someone, they mention Godiako. Until this week, I have only been inside, once; peeked at the menu and walked out. High prices, lack of bentos or combo sushi choices and hostess wasn't happy when I asked to see a menu before choosing to sit or not. That was years ago. I stopped in about 2pm on a Monday for a late lunch. Again, I was overwhelmed by the menu, and prices but determined to give it a shot. All of the specialty rolls are over $15. That's outrageous, unless they are monster rolls that feed two. . (though I don't know, really) They don't have Sake don on the menu but they do have Tekka don and the waitress said they can make Tekka don with salmon....smh First was the salad - large, almost dinner sized bowl of salad with dark lefty greens, radish and carrot. Next was the quart of miso. Miso is miso, it was fine but I didn't need so much. Then there was the Sake don. The.plate.was.huge! Beautiful plate of sashimi salmon over rice, with a bit of pickled veggies, and an olive oil drizzle. It was really good. The only downside to the dish was the cut of the pieces. The cut was a mess but the fish was good quality. Well worth the $20.95 price tag. For a bit more, I could have ordered it spicy and I just might next time to see how that turns out. I couldn't believe the portions for a sushi restaurant. I will check out more of the menu and soon, but will surely have to take a friend to help me eat the dishes. I had plenty to take home and left half the soup and salad. Annette's review with their huge Bento looks great, but if that's the Godiako Bento as on the menu, the description is way off. Can't wait to try the Spring Roll appetizer with crispy shrimp.

You can get a boatload of food here for not very much money. I like the fried rice and the yakisoba. I'm a big eater, but they're always enough for two meals. Their sushi routinely has buy one get one free, so you can get a lot of sushi too.

Try they tuna tacos.. you'll know you are at the right place ... Lunch combo are nice as well

I was really expecting better. First of all, Godaiko had one of the best offerings (in my opinion) at Taste of Ann Arbor a couple weeks ago - multiple flavors of delicious bubble tea with deserts stacked on the lid. It was a huge hit, and a big reason why we came here tonight. As it turns out, they don't even serve bubble tea here... This is Restaurant Week in Ann Arbor so another chance to shine, but they came up short again. The prix fixe menu had some good looking options, and the presentation was good (see attached pics), but the food was over seasoned and not as good as I had hoped. There were some oddities to like no rice with the stir fry, and a dish that featured "spicy tuna", but was really just sliced tuna without any kind of seasoning. The sushi roll we got was also way too expensive for what it was.

Solid food and generous portions. Poor hospitality - basically kicked us out at 8:45 on a Tuesday night after pressured twice for last order. Not a friendly place to linger and enjoy. If they could fix the hospitality side, they would have a nice place.

Been coming here for many many years...birthdays, holidays, and simple days. My family even came for a private meal after a funeral (with private room accommodations). The food, rates and especially the service has been good, all good. I travel the world, but I live locally--so they are my hood, or my "neighborhood" for the University and Hollywood folk. They have been and remain a family favorite.

Just don't do it. Left a whole meal on the table... The sushi had so much rice that it didn't even taste like sushi and more so like a bowl of rice then I tried the fish by itself and had to spit it out because of how fishy tasting it was. I also ordered the flying noodles with Kobe beef and the meat was so overcooked you could hardly chew through it and there was no taste. The bang bang shrimp was fried, per usual, but so fried there was grease piled at the bottom and the bang bang sauce didn't taste like anything besides Mayo. Unfortunately the service was not good either. Save your money

I came in for lunch and was able to be seated immediately. I found great value with the lunch special, $12 for a large portion of food. The special of the day came with rice and noodles, soup, a bun, and a sushi roll. Overall the meal was just okay. Nothing was especially terrible, but nothing stood out, either. The best of the items was the sushi roll, it was a fresh salmon roll with just the right amount of zesty sauce to cover. My least favorite was the rice and noodle dish, it was a little too greasy for my tastes. The service was great, but the food was only average. I would recommend coming in for the lunch special if you want a fairly large portion of food for a decent price.

Enjoyed this restaurant with a friend for dinner. We ordered one sushi roll that was more expensive than many places in the area and it had good flavor but fell apart easily. We also had shrimp and crab salad with wasabi dressing that was great. Chicken wings in some sauce that but the flavor was bland. My favorite was the bang bang shrimp that also had tempura veggies at the bottom. Overall pleased.

First time trying but this is easily the best Japanese food we've ever eaten. The sushi was fresh tasting and flavorful. The rice and noodle dishes are enough for 3 people and the pork belly buns are to die for. We will be back to expand our horizons on the menu, I will be recommending to everyone.

I haven't been in this restaurant for about 7 years. My last memories of it were pretty good,hunt today was frankly awful. First of all, the server was very matter-of-fact and unfriendly. My two menu questions were both answered in the same way : "It depends on what you like." Oh, okay, that was so helpful. When my roll arrived, it was sloppy, both end pieces already fallen open, and every piece I picked up fell apart. The shrimp was super skimpy and the avocado was brown. They try to make it look like they used four pieces of shrimp in the roll by shoving two tails in each of the pieces.....literally *just* the tail shell - no actual shrimp. So basically I paid $14 for four mediocre pieces of sushi - not even grocery store quality, really. Everything is over priced.

Crystal C. Was an absolute monster, I was sitting with my partner at the table right next to her. The reason your original waitress didn't come back was likely because you were being so rude, yelling and threatening to call Heath and safety. The second waitress was quite respectable and very calm considering you forgetting she was a human being. We had the salmon and it was really good, in fact on the more top end of sushi in this area. I'm shocked someone would be so misleading just to get a discounted meal. We love this place and will be returning.

Godaiko has kind of lost the plot a bit, I think. I don't know. It's not quite my first choice in town anymore but if I'm in the area I'll go. Such was the case a few weeks ago when my mom and I had run to Briarwood and wanted to grab lunch before hopping on 94 to our next errand. She wanted sushi and it was out of our way to go anywhere else so we went here. It was good but it wasn't GREAT. They still have that massive lunch bento box (which is what I ordered along with some rolls to split with my mom) but it's all just kind of all right.. The sushi was fresh, which is most important, but kind of bland, even the spicy tuna which had very little kick to it (if any at all). Tempura is kind of hard to mess up as long as it's right out of the fryer so this one was pretty good. The chicken teryiyaki was moist but not very flavorful (I'd take more sauce?). They've also raised the prices quite a bit over the last few years and they don't really match the quality. Portions are generous but I'd rather have smaller bites with more flavor. They also added a lot more "non-sushi" items which is where I think they went a little wrong. Stick to what you used to do so well--sushi, udon, some apps, a few hot dishes and that's it. No need for a huge menu. Ditch the burgers and all those superfluous extras. Service is so nice. Our waitress was awesome and the big spacious booths are also welcoming. But the experience is a far cry from the awesome times I had just a few years ago.

Wow...been going here for years...tonight was such a disappointment....I could go in to details, but we were actually told "we don't care".....took hours to get served...tables all around came later and were leaving before we got our food...no sincere apologies...nothing...they even charged me .75 for a little extra wasabi.... I know they were very busy with carry outs, but it wasn't the time, it was the lack of communication and the attitude...probably won't be back...Paul??? You should know this......

A lovely dinner. Casual atmosphere and very good food. Really liked the ginger dressing and the sea bass.

I have been coming to Godaiko for over 20 years. Paul the original owner trained to be Sushi chef in Japan. The quality was absolutely amazing at the time. Now the food is no better than an below average Japanese Sushi place. The prices have significantly increased and one thing to be aware of is that 20% tip is automatically charged for a party of 4 or more. This is new! I would not recommend it to anyone.

If you call to place a carry out, and can't get through after 3 or 4 times trying, don't bother ordering here. I've been standing in a line with 15 other parties waiting for carry out, waiting well over 40 minutes past the 45 minute quoted wait time. They have 5 staff members working on it, and they have utter chaos! The only reason I give one star is because their food is pretty good and reasonably priced. But, not worth a 90+ minute wait!

Terrible service. Terrible food. The udon was far too salty and the waitresses CLEARLY thought their role was to serve the white people in the restaurant before the Asian people. As an Asian person, I do not trust this type of service at all.
