"Centrally located in the heart of downtown, this sultry, smooth Japanese speakeasy is as enticing as they come. The cocktail menu highlights Japanese ingredients like shiso, sake, and miso, while favouring gin, whisky, scotch and mezcal as the liquors of choice. Small dishes like duck tataki and salmon onigiri provide balance to the heavy-hitting cocktail list." - Daniel Bromberg

Checked out Gokudo for our second speakeasy of the night. Busy on a Saturday evening (10:30pm) but no wait for a table. The inside is dark and sultry with plenty of love for The Weeknd songs. Small food menu, cocktails ($14.00 to $15.00) and sake but you can order off menu. First tipping option of 25% was wild. - Saké du moment ($18.00 carafe) - server didn’t tell us what type of sake. Standard - Edamame ($6.00) - Chicken skewers ($9.00 for 2) - sauce was a touch too sweet - Beef udon ($16.00) - small portion but good flavours. First time seeing pastrami with udon Chill, loungy spot to have a few drinks. 3.5 stars.

The ambience and decor is really nice, the quality of the drinks is okay, some were very tasty but others were quite bad. The service completely turned us off. Our waitress never came to take our orders or offer any service through the night, despite the bar not being busy. Thankfully we were helped by the hostess. The bar was expecting a Formula One crowd but I’m not sure how they planned to manage it with such bad service.

Small cocktail and saké bar. Has a speakeasy vibe. Very cute. The cocktail we tried were very great and all original, with multiple layer of flavor's. Haven't tried the food.

We chose this restaurant for our Valentine's date, expecting a great atmosphere, delicious food, and quality service. While the ambiance was initially inviting, our experience quickly turned into a frustrating ordeal. We started with two cocktails, which arrived in a reasonable 10 minutes. Alongside, we ordered a few dishes, understanding that it was a busy night and food might take some time. However, after waiting for over an hour—watching tables around us receive multiple rounds of food while we sat with empty plates—it became clear that we were forgotten. Despite reminding both waitresses multiple times, our food never arrived. Each time, we were assured it was coming, but with no sense of urgency or apology. After hours of waiting, we gave up on ever receiving our meal. To make matters worse, when the bill arrived, we were charged for everything—including dishes that never even made it to our table. When we pointed this out, the waitress casually responded, "Oh, it never came out?" with zero remorse. Between the atrocious service, lack of accountability, and the sheer disrespect of charging us for food we never received, this was hands down one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. Would not recommend, and certainly will never return. Freezing in the snow storm was more enjoyable than this.

I had a great time at this Japanese restaurant and bar. The ambiance and the vibe were really nice and relaxing. The music was not too loud and suited the mood. The food was delicious and authentic. I especially enjoyed the Sake and the Maki. The service was awesome and attentive. The staff were friendly and helpful. They made sure we had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves Japanese cuisine and drinks.

This is a dark and sultry Japanese bar. It’s perfect for a date or tryst. The cocktail menu is interesting and there’s a good selection of sakes and sojus. A bar menu has a few mediocre bites. Service is cute but forgetful. Most people will love Gokudo because it seems like a hidden discovery.

The bar is awesome looking and has a cool concept, the drinks and food was really good, however the staff was so rude and unprofessional. Our waitor (I believe he is a french guy), did not even bother to come see us a second time to see if we wanted another drink or anything else, we had to flag him down, and even when we did he was extremely cold. Sad such staff work in hospitality.

Gokudo is a wonderful place to hang out and relax on a couch with friends and a drink. Beautiful atmosphere with excellent service! It’s best to go early though, say around 5pm or so, when it’s less crowded, less noisy and much more comfortable for quiet discussion. I couldn’t say that the cocktails are the best in town, and the food is good but nothing to rave about, but it’s lots of fun, especially if you want to show friends from out of town a good time. Recently, I tried the Wagyu Shot, which was fine, but didn’t blow my mind. I wish they were less westernized in taste, and had more of a Japanese hit of flavour, with a spice of wasabi.
