"A big slap-up Turkish meal is our idea of a brilliant birthday celebration. The legendary restaurant Gökyüzü is one of many options on Green Lanes, but there’s something about its comforting familiarity that we always come back to. Virtually every night of the week, there’s some kind of kebab-heavy celebration going on, often until the early hours." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, heidi lauth beasley
"In case you don’t already know, Gökyüzü is a Turkish restaurant in Harringay that lives in our hearts rent-free. We’d go for the manti, the chicken wings, the cop shish, and the beyti. Yeah we know it’s a big order, but it’s the kind of food you happily take away and eat the next day. Or as soon as you get home. They have other locations in Finchley, Walthamstow, Kentish Town, Park Royal, and Chingford." - rianne shlebak
"We know, we know. You’ve spent many an Eid here before. But that’s because this Turkish spot knows its way around a group get-together. There are mixed meze platters, there’s sarma kuzu beyti, there’s chaos, and we love it all. The stalwart mini-chain has spots dotted around north east London, but the Green Lanes location feels the cosiest. With plenty of tables for groups and a kunafa that requires sharing, it’s perfect for a family gathering. The menus have something for everybody, but the thing you really won’t want to miss is the manti." - rianne shlebak
"Gökyüzü, a sprawling, pleather-tastic restaurant on Green Lanes, is a certified institution. A meal here should be enjoyed with nothing less than a herd of people and a majority eat their body weight in complimentary warm flatbread and salad before complaining of fullness once doner or manti arrives. The adana may not be the most intensely seasoned, nor the shish most succulent, but like most legends, Gökyüzü is best-known for its reliable consistency." - rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, jake missing
"It’s hard to list everything we like about Gökyüzü. We’ve been coming to this Turkish restaurant on Green Lanes for years: for big group birthday celebrations and last-minute get-togethers. The space—a multicoloured, pleather-filled extravaganza—is enormous. But although it looks a little showroom-y at first glance, nothing is for show here. Portions are made for sharing and everything is geared towards feeding you brilliant grilled meats and vegetables, and making sure no one leaves dissatisfied." - rianne shlebak
