Nice coffee shop with a lot of potential. Comfortable seating in small rooms. The food I bought was not fresh and needed to be microwaved. Coffee was decent. There is no bathroom for guests.

Google
Excellent OG espresso and coffee in Tempe. Have been killing it for decades. Their iced vanilla latte is hard if not impossible to beat. Great service! Quiet spot usually for studying or catching up or just exhaling.

Google
Coffee is really good and the place has a lot of personality. Staff is also super friendly and offered great recs. Adequate to study (for a brief period) or just chat with a friend/date. Nonetheless, the place does not have a bathroom, which can be annoying. You would need to go to Chef's Store (3 min walk).

Google
It was 745 am and I took my dog to the vet across the parking lot and as I was walking her, I saw “COFFEE” written across the window. Knowing I haven’t had a single sip, I knew after dropping my dog off I was coming in here. First, impression ADORABLE. It’s like walking into your neighbors house, such a home-y and friendly feeling. Immediately was greeted by both ladies in the shop. The owner herself (I applaud owner/mangers who work along side their staff) took my order, continued to chat with me and made me feel so welcome even on my first visit. Even though the owner knew every single other person in the place, she didn’t ignore the newbie and chat with her regulars. She made sure to make me feel just as important. I picked a table near the owners work station and she was so sweet and chatted with me, introduced herself, asked questions about me. Honestly, this was such a friendly welcoming that IF the coffee sucked, I wouldn’t have cared. But to top it all off, the COFFEE IS AMAZING! All around this is such a family feel coffee shop that I would make my drive from east mesa just to come here.

Google
A cute and cozy local coffee shop. Love their coffee and the service. Very nice and friendly staff. They pay attention to you and what you’re ordering. I got my Breve done right. Support local.

Google
Very sweet coffee place , great coffee but NO BATHROOM , really weird. They must be sick of people asking because I got a very curt NO! Was told to go to Ross , which was closed . Sadly , not going to go back. However if you don't need a loo this is the place for you. Certainly don't take children 😉

Google
Went here out of the blue and it's a small little family owned coffee shop, I got the mocha espresso and it was fantastic and taste was perfect, not too sweet and not too bitter. Lots of unique drink options and ultimately a breath of fresh air compared to Dutch bros or Starbucks. They do serve deserts as well! The apple pie is great! Check this place out for a nice change!

Google
Based on favorable reviews, I decided to give it a "shot" (pun intended ). Even though it was 4 miles outside my route, I'm glad I did as I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the smooth, tasting, freshly ground espresso. Order the Rolo Mocha with white chocolate

Donna L.

Yelp
Great coffee flavor. Cozy setting and variety of teas and coffees to choose from. Quick service with a friendly smile.

Yelp
Best coffee spot in Tempe, used to live in flagstaff and this place reminds me of a lot of the coffee shops up there. Welcoming, friendly, and cozy. My girlfriend and I play chess in the corner or study it's epic.

Yelp
Nice friendly baristas This place has been there forever and has nice deco and a wide selection of flavors The latte was really delicious but was too sweet for my liking so I will probably order half sweet next time I visit
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Great place with a variety of mocha drinks. I went with the white mocha and anywhere that uses Ghirardelli chocolate for mochas are legit. The barista was really friendly and helpful. The moment I stepped into the place it reminded me of places I used to go to when I was in college. Very local vibe and chill. Thanks Gold Bar keep it going!

Yelp
Absolutely the best! Locally owned, warm quaint and no longer the best kept secret. The service is great. I came to Gold Bar as a GCU student to study for my BSN in 2012. I'm back as a grad student studying for my NP. I adore this place. The owners and staff are consistently cleaning which reminds me of studying at home.

Yelp
tried this place for the first time not too long ago and i enjoyed it! it was very nice inside and had a nice atmosphere. i ordered a cappuccino and it was really good! i also got a muffin which was tasty. overall nice coffee shop and i could see myself going back

Yelp
Sunday morning girls don't greet customers or make eye contact. I felt like I was disturbing them. Didn't say thank you. Heard them talking about how annoying it is when customers that order chai request light ice. Didn't repeat drink order back after the order was made. Felt like I was bothering them by being here. Drinks are ok. Nothing to write home about. Not from here so I won't be back when I'm in town.

Yelp
Locally owned coffee shop with great staff. I was a regular when I was a student at ASU and still like to stop in when I'm around. They have some food and snacks but there are also multiple food options in the plaza or in walking distance. Shop Local!
google avatar

Aubrey J.

Yelp
Such a cute coffee spot. Independently run, this place is quaint. The stain glass windows set it apart. It is kid friendly. The two girl's working were friendly and patient. They didn't even mind late additions to the order! The coffee and treats were a great afternoon snack

Yelp
My husband and I use to frequent this place about 6 years ago and really enjoyed their space and beverages! Today we decided for old times sake to ride our bikes here! Still a quiet space with lots of tables to snag for studying, work or meeting friends. Quirky atmosphere with lots of art and mismatched decor. We don't usually venture to much out of our realms for beverages and stick in the chai or cold brew range. Today, I opted for vanilla chai one of five chai options they have and my husband cold brew. They have an extensive speciality menu, as well as rotating seasonal specials. Prices are pretty on point for cafe and obviously vary based on what your ordering! Service is friendly and overall still great space from our first visit 6 years ago to today!

Yelp
Cool little coffee shop tucked away in a shopping center. I could tell some of the customers there were regulars which was awesome! They had quite the variety of mochas and teas. I decided to get spring the spring cherry iced green tea and it was so refreshing! Super nice staff here too, I would recommend.

Marisol G.

Yelp
Went to this coffee shop to try it. This was the worst latte I've ever had. You can definitely tell the quality of the coffee they use is low quality. Next time will go to Starbucks across the street.

Yelp
Flavorful drinks Prompt and kindly service Chill coffee shop vibe unlike the sterile, corporate Starbucks across the complex Love this place.

Lizzy C.

Yelp
This would have been my go to spot in Tempe but they don't have a bathroom. Not sure how that's legal. The drinks are good and the study spots are great but you can only stay as long as your bladder will let you.

Jasmine R.

Yelp
All I have to say is no bathroom. I don't know why, but there's no bathroom for customers. Couldn't focus on my drink because I had to pee.

Yelp
I was first introduced to this coffee shop when I first moved to Phoenix 11 years ago. I always forget about this place because we live downtown and it is a bit of a drive but so worth it. We came back today to have a nostalgic moment and let me tell you it has not changed. I wanted my partner to experience the uniqueness of this local coffee shop. It still has friendly staff and a huge selection of pastries and drinks. I love that none of the tables or chairs matches which is what makes this place one of a kind. I ordered a vanilla, raspberry chai and my partner had an almond joy mocha. Both were very good. The staff worked as a team to make sure the customers did not wait long for their drinks. I remember I used to come on Fridays and they had a jazz band. I am hoping they are still around so we can come back and relax here on a Friday evening to enjoy the music and coffee. Thank you guys for the great teamwork and for keeping this local spot alive. I highly recommend this location to meet up with friends, do some homework, or even just come read a book. I cannot wait to be back in the near future.

Yelp
Gold Bar has unfortunately gone the wrong direction over the last year. New employees are significantly less personable than previous, especially in later hours of the day for some reason. Steve's Espresso is right down the street though and deserve more love. Hate to see them go but Gold Bar just doesn't provide the cozy vibe anymore
google avatar

Paula E.

Yelp
Great coffee shop! Very eclectic. Not a place to have a conversation from what I can tell as it was dead silent. No music playing, people on computers working. Reminded us of a library. Coffee and tea served and pastries as well. We shared a slice of tiramisu and it was delicious. Honey went with a mocha breve hot and I had iced and they were both delicious. Grab a book and and enjoy some down time

Yelp
Gold Bar Espresso has a nice inside and some great customer service. Unfortunately, this is the only thing that this coffee shop has to offer. If you are ordering any of the coffee itself I think you'll be disappointed by the lack of coffee or the extreme bitterness of the black coffee. I went here to enjoy a nice morning with my brothers and we ordered cold brew, latte with whole milk, and a mocha (something, I can't remember this name). I think the names of the drinks are the least important thing considering all three of us had some type of inconceivable drink in front of us. Suggesting that perhaps the whole menu suffers from what I'm going to tell you. The cold brew coffee was so bitter, I've never experienced coffee that taste so bitter and yet watered down at the same time. The latte wasn't a latte, it was milk and maybe some coffee in there? The mocha drink my brother got was just chocolate syrup and almost no recognizable coffee flavor at all. With the situation we found ourselves in we decided to try all three of them at once to see if it could make a decent mixture drink. To our surprise it was pretty decent. With all that being said the ambiance and conversations with the people I was with made the morning a pleasant one. I think this coffee shop has real potential, but would love to see more emphasis on the quality of the coffee.

Makenzie W.

Yelp
The drinks are good and so is the food, although some of the food items come from costco so those ones aren't probably worth the price (to me). Love the atmosphere and the workers are usually nice.

Yelp
I used to be a frequent flier at gold bar before the pandemic, and this week I returned here this week for the first time since the pandemic and didn't love it. The space felt a little dark and unclean, and the lack of public restrooms made it hard to stay for a longer period of time to get work done. I don't think the coffee is good enough to warrant a return.
google avatar

Candace C.

Yelp
We came in this morning and it was busy. The two women behind the counter were new? Not sure because it took them a while to figure out how to ring us up for a quiche, and two coffee drinks. I ordered the Breve and it just tasted like milk. We also got a Redeye and a slice of Spinach Onion quiche. The quiche came out to me cold. I was so confused. No instruction that I would need to microwave it myself or anything. Weird. So I microwaved it and drank my milk which was supposed to be a Breve with 2 espresso shots. I didn't ask for a new drink because the line was crazy and we had to go.
google avatar

Kelly P.

Yelp
Delightful and delicious. It's a little pricy for normal day to day coffee but for a spot to sit and relax and try a customized drink to fit your mood. Def worth checking out
google avatar

Yelp
Still no restroom access, due to it being closed to the public still, was told to walk to Ross, which they weren't too happy either about them sending all of their customers over there to use the restroom. In fact so bad that Ross put a keypad on their restroom door now. Also though the Wi-Fi is plenty fast it got hot in here real fast. I had to leave. The actual drink was good though. But sorry liquids being sold without access to a restroom? I honestly can't say I can be back to work out of here.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Heads up: there are no restrooms here. Does it make sense for a place that primarily serves drinks? No, not at all. But it is what it is, I didn't build it. I never actually got to try to coffee because I also needed to use the restroom. Maybe someday I'll come back to try it...perhaps once they allow use of their restrooms, or if my bladder somehow grows to a size beyond that of a normal human ‍

Yelp
Cozy place. Great staff and very friendly and accommodating. Support this local coffee shop.
google avatar

Darya S.

Yelp
Sadly, this was the worst latte I've ever had. It was so bitter and thin-bodied, and a major waste of time. For $6, you'd expect that it's a well-crafted beverage, but as soon as I took the first sip, I had to stop myself from spitting it out. It was so bad! I feel like my building's latte machine makes a better, smoother latte. Really wanted to like and become a fan of a local cafe, but I left highly disappointed.

Rachel E.

Yelp
Best café in Tempe! Cute, quiet, fantastic drinks, friendly and nice employees and owners!
google avatar

Tiffany W.

Yelp
A little rustic homely place with awesome coffee and a select list of pastries. I used to come here every week for years. The customers were very diverse in their purpose. A lot came to work on their computers. Others came to do homework from books, while others came for their tutoring sessions. On a rare occasion, some came to socialize through games and dates. I suppose this place was the 'cool' homework lounge lol. I like to get coffee in a mug and, on some occassions, a pastry. They don't have much of a selection with pastries but the ones they have are pretty good. I definitely recommend going!
google avatar

Minahil S.

Yelp
I love this place, the atmosphere is lovely. A true coffee shop complete with local art on the walls and mismatching furniture... Also... Swiss. Orange. Mocha...
google avatar

Vee N.

Yelp
More than the strong bold perfect coffee, is the cozy feeling here. Mismatch chairs, random jazzy reference, nostalgic coffee grinders and lil lamps per table, makes you feel like you're in a safe place to blow some thoughts self reflect and dine out. Thanks gold bar
google avatar

Yelp
I always enjoy coming here whether it be to find a quiet place to procrastinate doing my homework, or a nice, comfortable place to read a book. The baristas are always so nice and accommodating. Their chocolate especiale, which has no espresso in there, is my favorite. It's like an adult chocolate milk, but fancy, hahaha. Anyway, I love this place, best coffee when I do decide to get it. Cute and classy on the inside. Free Wi-Fi, which is always nice.

Travis F.

Yelp
There was a terrible stench the moment I walked in to this place, almost smelling like wet clothes or something. The cold brew was mediocre with a ridiculous amount of creamer when I asked for a little bit. The fella at the counter was nice and polite, only reason for the two stars.

Yelp
I just moved to Tempe and wanted to try a local coffee location, and I was so happy to find this place!! It's so cute inside and the ambiance was very chill. The woman at the register was very sweet, and the coffee was so yummy!! I will definitely be back
google avatar

Hallie G.

Yelp
Very wonderful and unique lengthy menu selection for coffee and flavors, teas too. Very affordable options, plus I love that they have vegan milk options. The staff was friendly, helpful, and kind. The ambience was cute, welcoming, and clean. Really glad we stopped in to try this place out.

Marian M.

Yelp
Interesting interior and drinks. The service was fast. I had the Milky Way and it had chocolatey taste and not too sweet so I highly recommend that! I will definitely go back to try their interesting menu!
google avatar

Kate M.

Yelp
Stopped in during a cloudy day and got the iced Americano and Lemon Poppyseed muffin. Coffee was just right and the muffin was fresh. They had only 1 barista working and she was hit with a busy group before my order. She was very calm and polite about finishing her orders before attending to mine. Service was great, the quality was excellent, and the atmosphere is unique. I definitely recommend stopping in.
google avatar

Julia N.

Yelp
Great spot to study, as it is generally pretty quiet and surrounded by working people as well. The atmosphere was very calm and collected, also enhanced by the decor. I ordered a red eye espresso drink - which is 3-4 shots of espresso in iced coffee (which sounds like a lot of coffee.. and IT WAS!) You can taste the strong coffee in this drink, every single drop of it for sure. In retrospect, I should have gotten it a little sweetened so it complements the taste of coffee, but regardless, their coffee was still good. It's packed with the slight bitter scent and taste of coffee, which is pretty hard to find in most coffee shops, as they tend to water everything down so much. But not Gold Bar Espresso! They also do punch cards.. so I'll definitely come back for another study session real soon. And maybe experiment a little with my drinks.

Yelp
After living only a few minutes away for months now, I finally stepped into this place two days ago (and yesterday, and then again today). I've interacted with four baristas total so far, two of whom were family. Dennis, one of the owners of Gold Bar, is absolutely charming and does a great job at creating a comfortable, fun, and joyful atmosphere for his staff and customers, even at 6am. Not only do they provide impressive customer service that is not seen often these days, but they also have great coffee. It's as if the best of both worlds collided in one place. Don't let my opinion determine yours; go check it out for yourself. :) My go-to drink: medium roast coffee, black, add shot of espresso, in a mug.

M In AZ ..

Yelp
i love this place. mostly because it's quiet. they don't play music. therefore you can actually read or work. they keep it pretty warm too so i don't have to bring a blanket to shield from the a/c. it's a little dark & old-fashioned looking. no glaring, annoying bright lights. i would give it a 5-star except it's sad when there is an up-charge for non-cow milk. if they were conscientious, they would up charge for animal milk or not serve it at all.

Yelp
I used to visit Gold Bar frequently years ago when I lived in Tempe. I hadn't been in a few years until a friend mentioned we meet there for coffee. I agreed because I remember it being good coffee and a chill spot. The experience was less than great, in fact I will not return. The coffee was pretty good, but there is good coffee everywhere. The problem with this visit was the staff. The two girls working behind the counter were so unpleasant. If we didn't have our babies with us I would have gone elsewhere after talking to the first girl. I poked my head in a couple times looking for a spot to sit and I had my stroller with my son in it. She never said hi, can I help you, or anything. Just stared at me with a dirty glare. So I went in to order and wow, so much attitude and basically treating me like I was a fool for asking for a French press. She couldn't even stand up, make eye contact or talk to me like an adult. She just sat there looking up at me talking to me like I was beneath her. Not sure if the owner knows the employees treat customers this way, but maybe they will now.

Yelp
My daughter and I try numerous coffee houses when I visit. The barista was helpful and friendly. Nice latte!
google avatar

Johnny B.

Yelp
Paper cups are fifty cents extra. Sorry but I'm dirty coffee shops I prefer paper for sanitation reasons and I prefer not being nickel and dimed because you keep your restaurant filthy Back to the corporate coffee shop

Rachel F.

Yelp
Fantastic espresso, every flavor add in imaginable. Their chai selection is awesome, and every drink recommendation I've gotten from their staff has been amazing. Great vibes/lighting, also a million outlets for laptops etc.
google avatar

Tori B.

Yelp
Lol get a bathroom or don't serve coffee . and don't come to subway to use the bathrooms you need to buy something if you do want to use
google avatar

Ryan A.

Yelp
Gold bar is epic!!! Best chai tea in town. Try to find a better chai tea out there. Uber vanilla. The owners are wonderful! So friendly and kind. The staff is great! This is a one of kind place. I also love they dont play music so you can concentrate. I come here all the time! One of my favorite spots to chill.

Temp G.

Yelp
Terrible coffee!! They use this disgusting MONIN syrup (which I'm pretty sure they didn't use before as I have ALWAYS loved gold bar until this point). The iced latte was SO BAD I literally took a few sips and just handed it back to the cashier to dump the rest out (and $7 for a medium is no joke!). The MONIN syrups need to go-pronto. They just have this yucky alcoholic burning taste. The girls who served us just looked irritated and gave me attitude when I asked a simple question. Sorry gold bar, I'll be visiting you no more :(
google avatar

Lauren H.

Yelp
Gold Bar is a Tempe staple- it's original and has its own flair. I'm a huge fan of all their pastries- super decadent, and can range from light and fluffy croissants to some of the best pecan pie, or cheese danishes(oooof!!!) - to die for! Their espresso is made really well, and their suggested combos and syrups are always a go to. I love trying their suggestions! London Fog is really good in the tea department. And I love their chai!

Lady L.

Yelp
I will be honest I haven't been here before but I had a special group (kink friendly). we are looking to host a rather large group once a month. I explained to her that we dress vanilla and we're very discreet. I was rubbed the wrong way by her customer service. When I called and asked for a large reservation she hesitated and then when I told her what kind of group we were she immediately turned it down. I know we're not gonna be accepted by everybody but she could have been a lot more professional & polite about it. Someone actually referred me here saying we would be welcome. I guess not, so I don't mind taking our larger group who spends good money to meetup regularly elsewhere.
