Gold leaf is a cute bakery in Bethesda just a quick walk from the metro stop. The cakes here look delicious. I had a blueberry muffin and my friend had a parmesan and spinach tart. Both were very good. Splurge on the muffin, it’s worth it! It makes a good stop for a pastry on the way to work. There are two small tables inside, so seating is not necessarily reliable.

Wow!!! Need a wedding cake? Or just a Quick bite of a French pastry? This sugar/candy/pastry chef knows what he's doing and went to the CIA! (That's The Culinary Institute of America, not the intelligence agency). Oh, annnd, worked at the White House for a few days. How did we get so lucky, Bethesda???

I came on a Saturday afternoon. It was empty. As soon as I arrived, I noticed all the tables (pictured), the chairs, and the floor beneath them were dirty with crumbs from previous guests. When ordering, the person working there was pulling paper cups and napkins for my food/drink out of cardboard boxes, which gave the impression it was a newly opened bakery and they were still settling in. I learned it has been open for nearly 2 years, so this must be normal. It seemed disorganized and careless. As for the food, I ordered a mango mousse pastry. It was dry and seemed like it was previously frozen and old. Overall I did not enjoy my experience and I would not return.

Peter is a really nice and affable guy - we enjoyed chatting with him. The Chocolate Cake was good. He does not add any sugar to it - the sweetness comes from the chocolate. We will most likely order a cake from here for the next family birthday party.

Some really excellent deserts, some are more pretty than tasty. The guy who owns it is super nice. They also have coffee and moderate seating but it would be nice if seating was a little more comfortable. I like doing work here though because it is always pretty quiet.

The small cakes are a perfect size for two servings. The white chocolate raspberry is delicious. Excellent service as well.
