I'd describe Good Tooth Tony with one word: Character. I know it sounds odd to use that to describe what you might think is a just another pizza place, but that's exactly why I use it.
When you walk in you get a vibe that's not usual. From the music, to the way the staff speaks respectfully, but realistically to you, this place has a vibe that is its own.
Then there's the food. Having tried and previously reviewed another "Detroit-style" pizza place just a few months ago, I had a pretty fresh memory of how it tasted.
GTT blew this out of the water. They have fresh ingredients. How fresh you ask? When was the last time you ordered garlic parmesan wings and you could actually see the shredded parmesan? You can call out the tomatoes in the pasta sauce? THAT fresh.
Let's go back to the wings. It's a new thing that I've been eating more of lately and sadly, GTT may have spoiled me on that. The wings were flavorful and you don't need sauce because they aren't overcooked/fried.
The pizza menu is customizable to your needs. For instance, I wanted the Detroit Supreme but I don't eat pork so I was able to switch out the sausage on my pizza to chicken.
We had a really cool moment when we visited because it was the night the Texans played the Lions - we were sitting chatting with the staff and owner, Tony, and NBC did a feature on the restaurant during the game. It was so cool to see the excitement of the staff and we cheered along with them as we watched the clip. I hope it brings them more business but I also hope you bring them business. This is a good place and they have a couple of places throughout H-town so definitely go out and support. They are committed to bringing great food.
If you want to try more, you can share. If you want to have leftovers to keep the good vibe going, order a pizza and wings and enjoy it later. Speaking from experience, it holds well for a few days.
