A small hole-in-the-wall kind of a place with amazing burgers. The burgers are a good value and was surprised when I saw my Hot Nerd burger. The burger was cooked perfectly and was juicy and flavorful. And the fries were good. What I ordered was a special of the Hot Nero, fries, and a drink all for $15. I hope to be able to stop here again the next time I am passing through.

Hubby considers himself a burger connoisseur so when he read this place had the best burgers in CT, we had to try it. He ordered the standard, single with lettuce, tomato, onion, cheddar cheese, bacon and mayonnaise. He said the burger was good but not great and not worth another 30 minute trip to visit again. (Plus they forgot the mayo and he had to go up and request it again). I had the vegan burger which held together nicely and tasted decent. The onion rings were good. The restaurant is a small place with a few indoor and a few outdoor tables, you go up to the counter to order.

Excellent burger with a juicy patty, soft, sesame seed covered bun and thick, crispy bacon. Above average fries. Service was excellent. The place could use a little TLC, but they make one of the best burgers in the area.

(Last visited March 9, 2025.) GoldBurgers is everything you want a straightforward burger place to be! Here's why GoldBurgers is one of my favorite burger places in existence! Atmosphere/Appearance: Located right on Main Street in "downtown" Newington is this gem worthy of the name! There's parking spots along the front of the place, some more further down in front of other places and of course the big parking lot behind the spot. Once inside it's pretty straightforward. There are some tables right up against the window then there's the counter where you order. After that it's all tables and stuff. It felt like a nice, family-friendly atmosphere. Service: There isn't table service so you just order at the counter and the food gets brought out to you, no big deal. Easy-peasy. It fits with the esthetic of the restaurant and works well. Food: I've had quite a few things from GoldBurgers and they're ALL delicious. Above the counter is the vast menu with all of the options from juicy burgers, chicken burgers, falafels, hot dogs, sweet potato fries and the like. However, at eye-level there's a chalk board where the specials are! That's what you want! Those specials constantly rotate and they're all based off of movies! My latest acquisition was an incredibly spicy chicken cheesesteak based off the movie Hoosiers! So freaking good, filling and just hit the spot! I've had double-burgers here that had potato chips on it, chicken burgers and this place just does not miss! Value: It feels like an old-school burger joint so you won't pay more than $13.00 for a burger, but they don't come with a side. They're all separate, but you can make a combo out of almost anything. Super affordable food. In conclusion, I feel guilty for not coming here more often! Lol. That's it. I wish I did, but I will make an effort to come on in regularly!

I had the goldburger and onion rings. The burger was very juicy and had great flavor. The onion rings were crispy and fresh. Can't wait to go back and try some of their other burger creations. Highly recommend if you love fresh, home style burgers that are made from scratch.

I have been going here here from time to time for at least the past 7 years. Went here tonight and this is literally the poorest excuse for a lettuce wrapped burger. Judge me if you wish for a lettuce wrap but the size of the burger is for a child. This is not the lettuce you should use for a lettuce wrapped burger and they cook them rare. This is just terrible all the way around for the price. Highly disappointed in such a highly rated place. 👎👎

I came in frist time there to order a burger and fries for my wife, when I got home my wife was out shopping so later on she came home and I gave her the food she said the food was good. But wait couple of bites in she called out to me to come see this , the burger was raw so I called to complain to the manager the young lady on the phone would not give me there name and kept trying to deflect my question . Something so simple to fix but I would never go there again

Their burgers are phenomenal. Quick & friendly service, reasonably priced. I’ve never had a bad meal here and have been coming here for years. Love this place!! Definitely a must try if you’re visiting central CT! I always get the gold burger with fries. Never misses.

top 2 and not 2, this spot is the u-n-o. i had to take a break and come back to try the chicken sandwich because the burger i had was too damn good (the bacon jam burger). first off, the tso ly loaded fries: *chef's kiss* unlike anything i've had before. the chicken sandwich: let me start off by saying i was disappointed at first because it wasn't a fried cutlet. but when i tell you, after the first bite, i had to apologize to goldburgers because i shoulda known they knew what they were doing. it's a mirror image of the beef, but chicken. overall, the burgers, chicken or beef, need to be studied. it's the right amount of everything without being overbearing. i can eat the whole thing without feeling like it's too much or things are falling apart. it holds its integrity amazingly. 5/5. the service was pretty good, ngl. the women up front wasn't kidding when she said everything was popular. you can't go wrong with anything on the menu (burger and fries related; i have not tried the glizzys). the ambiance fits in with the local aesthetic. truly a local legendary spot, goldburgers shall never leave my memory and now will forever be in my comeback spots.

I sat on my review for a bit and let the delicious juices stew inside me. GoldBurgers is a local store with a devout local following, and more importantly, mac patties! The rundown: A long, narrow, well kept place, not a lot of inside seating but the 3 of us grabbed a table and were served as the food was ready. Friendly service but basically walk up and order your dish. Feel free to add anything you want to your burger! Extremely customizable. I went with the Megalopolis special, featuring a house made sausage patty, and added the mac patty because mac patty. As I looked at my friends' dishes, the onion rings are small and densely breaded - not my style. The fries looked a little greasy but I tried one and it was cooked and salted to perfection. Not greasy, some skin on - 5 stars for that. My burger? The chorizo chili was a nice add. The jalapeno came through, the queso was fresh like it ought to be (not a lot of flavor, but that's queso). All in all, a strong 4 stars. I like that their beef burgers are ground fresh daily (at least in 2012, hopefully still). Next time I'm up this way I'll stop in and try building my own burger from scratch. See where that goes and if star number 5 arrives!

So GoldBurgers might not look like much, but the burgers are seriously amazing! I recently went and got the Bacon Jam Burger, which consists of a single beef patty, bacon jam, cheddar cheese, fries (on the burger), and chipotle sauce. I skipped the chipotle because I'm not a fan of anything spicy, but the burger was DELICIOUS! I also ordered a side of fries, and they were AMAZING. I can't even really describe why, they just tasted so good! I can't wait to go back and try some of their other burgers. The staff were friendly and my food came out within just a few minutes. Not much to say about ambiance- it's your standard burger joint. It's pretty spacious inside with a good amount of tables to eat at. Overall 10/10 would recommend!

Probably the best burger in Connecticut. Love the old school classic vibe of the restaurant, which translates to the flavor of the burgers. Great unique menu choices if you're looking for something more interesting than a typical ketchup-mustard kind of burger (don't skip on the potato chip topping!)

Where do I begin Family? Goldburgers deserves every single star for they go out of their way from the moment you step foot in the door to make you feel at home. The menu board is POW, right smack in your face flooded with options and for a first timer there, it could possibly be overwhelming to decide on just a few items but they are right there to hold your hungry hand and walk you through their wonderland of foodie options. Now I went in a few directions.... Let us begin with the Mac Squares that are made to attack your tastebuds in a way to bring creamy delight with an orchestra of cheese and a sweet symphony of seasoning on the fried breaded goodness that the macaroni is encased in. A single bite and your eyes widen with glee. You are nothing short of happy as you continue to chew your way through this playground of flavors that are meant for the masses. My Fat Attack did not stop there folks.... I also had their 50/50 which consists of half sweet potato fries (as my choice) and half Super Sized Onion Rings that had all types of crispiness to their own bite. Now the fries were good....Nice light Sweet and Salty vibe, they. kept you going back for more but these onion rings were made for the Champion in you! Large and in charge, crispy with a nice snap on the onions. It the batter for me that wasn't greasy but inviting. The Tso-ly Loaded Waffle fries, hit a homer and sent the rest of my appetizers to home plate and we all started to cheer within my mouth. What better way to bring about a wild and savory bite than to have some Ginger Soy coming in tangy and Chipotle Mayo barking up the right tree in way of packing a nice creamy yet spicy punch in my mouth over the crisp on that fried broccoli - TALK TO ME BABY and love me the way you do!!! I just worked you all the way up to their POT ROAST SANDWICH!! Yikes!! The easiest way to break this one down is to say, scoop your pot roast from your bowl and then slap that tasty monstrosity between two fresh buns of soft haven fun and now take a BITE!! Tender Beef, Onions with the Gravy Dripping and as you chew, a single tear drops from your eye for you've just experienced something amazing. Your soul thanks you on this one. Goldburgers, I WILL BE BACK BABY!!!

Fantastic! We were in the mood for a burger, and this place was just what we wanted. We started with the Mac Squares which were incredible and everything you would want them to be. Do yourself a favor and order these! Our burgers were cooked to perfection and the menu had many different options to choose from. Plus you could make your own. We went with the Mushroom and Swiss and BBQ Bacon. The fries and onion rings (we got half-and-half) were exactly what we wanted - best of both worlds! The staff and service were really great and informative. Plus we got our food quick. It was the perfect day to eat outside but there are lots of indoor seats, too. Do yourself a favor and try this place soon!

Wow, just Wow. Here for hockey and was in the mood for a good burger for lunch! NAILED IT! Great double "backyard" burger. Juicy, filling, Just as good as my own! And the combo Fries/Onion Rings were delicious! Great place!

Recently went to this place after seeing it on an episode of Man vs. Food highlighting the place as a local gem. Gem it was indeed!! We both got burgers when we went here, one Hot Nerd and one Bacon Jam Burger, both cooked perfectly how we like them medium rare. We also got a side of waffle fries to share on the side, love that option. Service was helpful in narrowing down the menu offering good suggestion, this place frequently has specials of the week which are different variations of some of their specials. They have a few parking spots in front of the restaurant as it is located in the downtown section of Newington. They also had a few tables to eat inside along with a counter overlooking the street. We will definitely be back here when in the area, one of the best burger spots for sure in CT.

Omg. This burger place has turned into one of my favorite hot dog spots. I love the chili dog with coleslaw. The staff is welcoming and my order is always ready when promised

Might've just had the best burger in my whole life. Double patty with garlic mayo, roasted peppers, grilled mushrooms,provolone. And to top it off, Carvel is right next-door!

this is my second time here both times where great burgers i am doing low carb so i had a gold burger over lettuce . i recommend asking for extra onions pickles and goldburg sauce this theme i tried the coney dog minus the cheese over lettuce the dog was cooked perfectly and the chili was very good . also recommend extra onions ( and try with the goldburg sauce ) reasonably prices and great service few seats inside but i love the chairs outside

Updating to 5 Stars because I forgot I had a 4 Star score based upon my then most recent visit. I've been back several times since then, including today. Legit some of the best fries in CT. Like maybe as high as #2 on my current list. My special hot dog today with acidic veggie toppings and harissa was really good. My only area of disagreement with the Goldburgers philosophy is the placement of toppings under the hot dog. But I can get past that. :)

I've had GoldBurgers twice now and although I really want to love it, I found my experiences to be just OKAY. The first time I had the specialty GoldBurger which is basically a burger with potato chips. To me, the double patty was too much. The second time I had too singles. They were okay, but nothing terribly special. There were fat pieces in the meat of the burger which I did not particularly love. I'm not a fan of double fried french fries in general and wish they had alternative options, but I'm not rating at all based on that. I enjoyed the sesame seed bun; this was a nice touch which is rare and I love any establishment which serves a seeded bun. I would say that this is an okay spot to grab lunch if you live in the area, but to me, the burgers aren't any better than what you could get at a good barbecue. I drove 30 minutes to get lunch here and I dont think it was worth it.

Great atmosphere and service. My partner loved his burger but I thought it was kind of basic. Prices were AMAZING and fries/rings were great too. Homer mountain soda was really good too.

This is my go-to place for a burger! Their food is priced perfectly and everything I've ordered off of the menu has been amazing (my favorite is the bacon jam burger). They also have outdoor seating that is perfect on a warm summer day! Service is always great and super quick; the staff is familiar every time we go.

Let me start with the selection of burgers looks great and sound good and it's a cute food spot. However, if ur into big portions, u lucked out my friend. I'm not a big portion girl my husband is. I on the other hand unfortunately got a hair in my burger so now I'm sad cuz I'm too grossed out to try it I saw so many good reviews I feel like it missed a mark.. I originally put it as 1 star but i did call and the man on the phone helped me quickly, he was a really cool guy and I'm thankful they helped us. For my family, good service.

Hopefully next time I remember to take a photo of my food, but the burgers were mouthwatering and I got the poutine fries special which was absolutely delicious!! The food is 5 stars and the customer service is 5 stars!! The only thing is there is limited seating at the restaurant so if you are going during busy hours it might be hard to get seating.

overpriced undercooked food, got simple orders wrong. nothing gourmet about any of the food. You could make better food yourself easy

My wife and I went here on a Sunday for lunch. I got the double Pattie with an egg, lettuce, tomato, Mayo...and my wife got the special chorizo burger, with chunks of apple, and onion rings, both burgers were juicy, and bursting with flavor. The burgers came out very quickly, (within 5 mins. Of ordering) we also got waffle fries with cheese which were also delicious. The walls are painted yellow and red which for me, which very inviting. We sat on the high top tables watching Main Street in Newington. Super pleased with everything, highly recommended if you're in the area!

Good food a little pricey. Fries are really good here and can't go wrong with a bacon cheeseburger. Quick as well.

This is the only place I go for burgers, locally. I've always found it's tough to pay for a burger when you can make a good one at home, so it has to be special. GoldBurgers nails this, with tons of imaginative burgers. The specials are where it's at. The staff is always friendly, and this place has a very strong "local joint" vibe. If you live locally and haven't been to GoldBurgers, you just aren't a local.

I was a bit disappointed with my burger after seeing all the rave reviews. The burgers were ok, but I had much better. I like that they have a veggie burger option and you can build your own burger. I had the Gold burger since it's their signature burger, but I found it lacking. Could use more flavor and I wasn't fond of the chips in the burger. Maybe I chose the wrong burger for myself. It's very filling though.

Ok wait, why haven't I reviewed GoldBurgers before?! Wow...shame on me. Here we go! I've been coming here for years. I used to frequent in college since because they took our CCSU blue chip cards (do they still do that?). But recently, a friend told me she was craving a good burger and I remembered GoldBurgers. Since then, we've ordered at least twice a month and each time is better than the last. Their daily specials are always unique and tasty. The creativity and passion of this staff clearly shows through. Oh and the Mac Bars??? One of my most cherished college memories! You need to try them. If you haven't been here yet, it's safe to say you're missing something in your life. The best "fast food", burger you can get, except it's homemade and you're supporting a local business. What's better than that?

TLDR: not exceptional but definitely good and worth a visit. This place is definitely worth trying. I ordered a double cheeseburger with lettuce tomato and cheese, fries, and a soda. The cost was $17.18 including tax. This feels a little high for me and is one of the things that kept me from giving it a five-star rating. The sodas are some off-brand called Hosmer Mountain. The cola tasted like root beer, the pink lemonade was decent. This was the other thing that kept me from giving five stars. The burgers themselves were a decent size, tasty, and juicy and I recommend them. The fries appeared to be fresh cut and were also tasty. The ordering and food service was reasonably fast and I had no complaints. From the outside it looks like a hole in the wall. This is not entirely wrong but it's a very nicely decorated and clean hole in the wall, complete with paintings hanging on the inside. There is seating outside which when the weather is nice is a good place to eat if you like sidewalk dining. I enjoyed everything overall and the next time I feel like spending $20 for a burger and fries I will return.

It's been 8 years since my first review of GBs and I just wanted to reaffirm the love I have for them. Like a renewal of vows or something. I still don't have a go-to order because I can (almost) never resist their specials menu! Don't skip a special that sounds delicious. Here today, gone tomorrow, and trust me, you can't go wrong!

Small town business with amazing food and service! Goldburgers is a Newington staple! It's right on Main Street and convienently near carvel... just saying. My husband and I have been here a few times and each time has been wonderful. The staff is super friendly and definitely patient with you if you are reading their entire menu and can't decide (me!). You order at the register and can wait a few minutes for your fresh meal! I've had the rodeo burger and most recently the egg and bacon burger- omg it was amazing!! The runny egg really makes it. My husband got a standard double cheeseburger with mushroom and onions and loved it as well! Seriously- if you're craving a burger search no more and come to Goldburgers! Don't forget the fresh-cut fries- those are a must!!!

Awesome burgers!!! I've been here multiple times because the burgers are so delicious. There are so many options! I usually get the loaded fries to accompany my my meaty concoction. Awesome tip, if you order in person they will bring it out to your car for you!! Bonus!

Wife and I decided to stop in on a whim since we were in the area. Small little place with seats outside to enjoy your meal if you want to eat there. This is a smash style burger yet they ask you how you want it cooked. Smash style does not compute to medium rare so don't be upset that it wont come out that as my wife was when she wanted it that way. I had the Blue and Gold burger. Was perfect. Nice beefy taste with the tang of blue cheese. Fried onions just made it better along with the seeded roll. My wife had the Bacon Egg cheeseburger. She was hoping for the runny yolk but they cooked it very hard which was quite a disappointment. Some days cooks are on point,other days they miss. Not going to hold it against them though. A great place to eat at if you are in the area.

We tried GoldBurgers because it was reportedly one of the top 10 burger joints in CT. The food was good, and the service was good too, but it was expensive and we've have other burger joints we'd prefer. We will return if we're in Newington but won't make a 40 mile trip again. Their menu options are diverse, and the restaurant was clean. Recommended if you want to try something different.

Great burgers, great value, great people! The classic Goldburger is massive and loaded with toppings and sauce, the fries are seasoned and crispy, and the fountain soda from Hosmer Mountain hits the spot, especially the root beer. A clutch establishment!

Onion rings cooked in dirty oil, they were dark and drenched in oil when they came out. The burger had so much grease on it that it was coming out of the wrapper. Also the presentation was awful half the burger was exposed because the top bun was smushed and covered only half of the burger. The taste was mid. I just thought they could have put it together better rather than half assing it. The only thing good was the soda.

Hallelujah! GoldBurgers is the best burger joint in this entire area. So many options I'm pretty sure my heart is going to implode, or is that due to all of the meat and cheese I eat? Who's to say, check out my other reviews and you be the judge. This place tickles my fancy for a juicy cheeseburger, bacon, and fries. Check this place out, you won't regret it.

I have been to this location several times. I really enjoy the burgers here. I'm planning to try every burger on the menu, though I really enjoy the GoldBurger.

I was craving a burger and decided to visit GoldBurgers and I'm glad I did. Gonna keep this review nice and short and say customer service was great , burger was absolutely delicious and to be able to order a half n half of fresh cut fries with sweet potato fries was a nice touch. This is one of the best burger spots I've been to and anyone looking for a great burger should give GoldBurgers a try.

Tiny spot for burgers, hotdogs, and a few other classic American foods that uses incredibly fresh ingredients. Their options are highly customizable, so you can mix & match until your heart's content. As I mentioned the place is tiny, so their are only a few places to sit both side and out. It would be great if they added milkshakes to their menu! 9

The food was fresh and tasted great. The service has always been good I've been there a ton of times now and am always greeted with a smile. The ambience is similar to an old, diner like blackies down in waterbury.

How good can burgers and fries and dogs possibly be? Go to Goldburgers and find out. The hamburgers, chicken and sausage patties are hand-crafted and made-to-order. The French fries are hand-cut every morning and are fried to order. We loved Goldburgers, the dining space is painted in cheery golds and reds with funky hamburger themed artwork. The big menu board proudly lets you know what your choices are- a dozen specialty burgers (how about Hot Nerd -a double patty with pepper jack cheese, jalapenos, buffalo sauce and hot sauce?), five chicken burgers (ever have a chicken and hummus combo? You can here), three sausage burgers, seven hot dogs (love the cleverly named Crouching Hot Dog Hidden Jalapeno!), plus all sorts of fries and rings. What a great menu. We ordered a chicken burger with lettuce, tomato, and mayo ($5.50) and a Sausage and Peppers burger (with provolone, roasted red peppers, cherry peppers, onion straws, and spicy BBQ sauce in lieu of roasted garlic mayo. I ordered this as a combo with waffle fries and a drink ($10) and discovered my Yelp check-in knocked a buck off that price. The sausage burger was absolutely delicious, there is no other word to describe how good it was. Spicy from the peppers, crunchy from the onion straws, savory from that wonderful sausage patty and all tied together with a pretty darned good roll. Wonderful, just wonderful. The waffle fries were wonderful too. We had a minor service problem with the delivery timing of the two meals to our table, but we were glad to overlook that glitch because the food was so darned good. And it wasn't expensive, because our meal ran just $15.42 (the fries were plenty to share). What a fun place. We loved it.

This is a takeout review. I've eaten a burger at the restaurant before and it was good. I ordered the Southern Burger MEDIUM with a side of fries via Grubhub. The order took over one hour to arrive. When I got the order the bread was smashed almost flat. Starving, I took a bite a the burger patty was cooked well done and pretty dry the flavor was lacking big time since the last time I had Goldburgers a few years back. The fries were burnt. Dark brown in color. I tried to eat them but the burnt butter flavor was too much. Ate half the burger and had to throw everything out. I was really disappointed with the experience I had this time around. Actually I was pretty shocked to say the least. I understand COVID and so forth. Maybe I'll give it another shot in the future.

Had business to do in Newington, and couldn't pass the chance to come here. Not my first visit, but first review. Thursday afternoon about 3 and place was empty. No fault of their own, we eat at weird hours, and also it's a weekday. We have been here before on weekends, and believe me, if they're busy, it's worth the wait. One word describes them: consistent! Beef looked like it was fresh ground, not a pre-formed patty. Cooked to medium, and so juicy and tender. Taste was unbelievable. I had mine with bacon and a runny egg. So good. We ordered a small fry, which was more than enough for both of us. If you decide to eat in, try the fountain soda. I travel a lot on business in New England, and try to look for local places, and to make it a point to try burgers, and all I have to say is that this is the best burger around, bar none! Make it a point to bucket list this establishment.

Stumbled upon this joint thanks to Yelp (who would have thought to use Yelp to find new places). I was in the mood for burgers and I will say GoldBurgers has hit the mark on both occasions I have been there. The staff is super friendly, and while the establishment is fairly small, it has a very nice cozy feel. They have a number of specialty burger options, in addition to some killer hot dogs. On both occasions I have mixed it up with doing both a burger and dog. The burgers are excellent (I give a big thumbs up to the MacPatty) but I think the crown of the meal I had was the PBR Dog I had picked. Everything is very fresh, and the combinations of toppings make for some interesting and compelling combinations I want to try. This is a great place to try if you are in the neighborhood and want to have a great burger or dog.
