Golden Beach Cottages

A lovely hotel ten meters from the beach. The service was excellent and all of the staff were amazing. Clean rooms with view over the beach and all the palm trees. We had the best of times! /Sarah and Erik

This place is all about location. You are right onto the beach from your room or from the restaurant. There are covered cabanas on the beach to use, although there is no offer of beach towels. The room was a large triple but very basic and in need of some tlc. It was good to have a fridge and a kettle, though. The linens were clean. The Sri Lankan breakfast was outstanding. The western of omelette and sausage was a bit greasy but sufficient. Staff were OK, nothing outstanding. There are a lot of places to eat nearby which is a big bonus for this hotel We could hear every footstep from the room above all night and also squirrels on the ceiling space. Didn't sleep well at all. This hotel is about location.

Wonderful location right on the beach and lovely family who went out their way to help and cater for our gluten free daughter (not easy in Sri Lanka). Yes the rooms are dated, but feel it’s priced accordingly given location and view. We would certainly go back.

We visit Golden Beach about every six weeks from Badulla for the beach. It is the best spot in Uppavalli for a peaceful stay 20 meters from a beautiful beach, excellent rooms with a/c and fan and not many mosquitos and excellent and helpful staff...Priya and Kajan can arrange whatever you need There are presently renovations which include a restaurant which will make it even better. Close to all the restaurants and Rs700 from the bus station Highly recommended. .we will visit again shortly

The hotel's location was excellent, but the room cleanliness was subpar. We found ants crawling all over the bed, and the bedsheets were not properly cleaned. The bathroom was cleaned, but not thoroughly. We appreciated the kind and helpful staff, as well as the superb location. The private beaches were among the best I’ve ever seen. However, due to the room's cleanliness issues, I regretfully have to give only 1 star. It was also really expensive.

Great location. Nice staff. 15 mins to the town center by tuk tuk. Prices in the bar - decent (which is obvious in the hotels) (stay in May 2024)

Daily breakfast starts at 8:30am, even though we had paid extra for the breakfast through Agoda. My diving boat leaves at 8:30am…..of course when we ask them about it, they became rude and just didn’t care. Even though our local friend has asked the night before when breakfast starts, they said 7:30am…….. Booked a beach front room, the room needs major renovation and dated. The Air conditioner is undersized for the small room, everything about this cottage is poor for value. At night they had a large number of guest hosting their company party, they had so many cars. They parked right in front of our ocean view room, so there goes our view after 4pm. The only good thing about this is the location which is right in the beach. But they can’t pay me to spend another night here, the place is dirty and gross. Do yourself a favor and check in next door at Trinco Blue by Cinnamon instead, what a day and night difference in terms of standards, this is a 1 star place vs 4-5 stars. If you are booking this place, just don’t do it or expect subpar experience va their other reviews (which are probably fake)

Lovely bungalows just a few metres from the sea. Rooms are clean, spacious and well furnished, with fridge, air con & fan. Feels very safe and private. The beach is beautiful, staff sweep it each morning to keep it free of litter. Only issue: no mosquito nets in rooms, and no place to hang one of our own. But a great stay nonetheless.
