Another niece of mine graduated from her high school and we're so proud of her for accomplishing this life milestone, so much so that I yelled at the top of my lungs as she walked the stage to get her high school diploma. For my other niece's celebratory dinner we ate Italian and for this niece, my brother and sister-in-law chose Chinese to celebrate their daughter. Thank you to my bro and sis for inviting us and for celebrating their daughter at Golden Chopsticks because that was such a delicious and satisfying dinner.
There are two Golden Chopsticks locations in San Diego with the one we dined at being their National City location and other one being situated in Mira Mesa. If you're familiar with National City, this location can easily be found by utilizing the 805 freeway, exit off of Plaza Blvd., and head west. The restaurant is located in a busy outdoor shopping center where you can find Seafood City, Big Lots, Joann's, Daiso, Goldilocks, 85C Bakery, and it's across the street from Jollibee's. There's a lot of parking, but you might need to park away from the restaurant since it's busy here. This was a popular spot especially since several high schools graduated on the same day as my niece. They do take reservations and I suggest you do that if you have a large party like us. There's a good amount of table seating, but this restaurant gets packed. For decor, there are Chinese banners, large framed artwork of nature, and small statues of Chinese symbols. Kudos to the staff for bringing out our food quickly and they are hardworking. I docked half a star because they brought us someone else's food and they took long to refill our drinks.
I've had the pleasure of eating at Golden Chopsticks in the past and we've eaten takeout food from here at family parties. If you know the Chinese food scene in National City, then you know that Golden Chopsticks is a popular eatery and is known for its Salt and Pepper fried chicken. My family and I are so thankful to my brother and sister-in-law for ordering a feast fit for The Graduate and her Proud Fam Bam. They ordered the following: Hot & Sour Soup, Mongolian Beef, House Special Noodles, Salt and Pepper Chicken, Honey Walnut Shrimp, Potstickers, BBQ Pork Fried Rice, and Fried Calamari. There isn't enough superlatives to describe how fresh, hearty, satisfying, tasty, and yummy all of Golden Chopsticks' dishes were. We started off with the hot & sour soup and loved the contrast of the savory and sour broth along with its components. The Mongolian beef was tender and with the sautéed vegetables, it ate really well with the rice. In fact, every entree was divine with both the fried and white rice. Of course the salt and pepper chicken was finger licking delish as always. Make sure to order the house noodles because the noodles were cooked perfectly and every type of protein is on that plate. I couldn't eat enough of the BBQ pork fried rice. The two stars for me were the honey walnut shrimp and the fried calamari. The plump shrimp coupled with the sweet glaze and candied walnuts was delectable. For the fried calamari, imagine salt and pepper chicken, but in squid form.
Yelling at the top of my lungs to cheer on my niece as she walked into the arena and as she received her diploma made me have an appetite. Thanks to my brother and sister for having their daughter's family celebration dinner at Golden Chopsticks. If you're a Chinese food enthusiast, you can't go wrong grubbing here.
