"This longstanding restaurant (which is under new ownership) in Kearny Villa serves a wide range of dishes, from seafood to sizzling beef with black pepper sauce, and is appropriate for quick lunches or large banquets. Try the dry scallop, shrimp, and Chinese broccoli fried rice and kwai fei chicken dish, also known as empress chicken, doused with a refreshing ginger-scallion sesame oil sauce." - Helen I. Hwang

Had an incredible lunch at Golden City! We ordered the rangoon, shrimp chow mein, sizzling beef with black pepper sauce, and Japanese scallop tofu. Everything tasted great. The service was very friendly and quick. They also do catering and sell party size trays. Recommend!

Excellent dinner. Great food and outstanding service. Family owned and everyone was so nice and friendly. Jenny, my server was awesome. She was so friendly, attentive and nice and my dinner was delicious. I highly recommend Golden City restaurant and look forward to returning. Thank you Jenny and thank you Golden City restaurant.

A Great Cantonese Dining Experience Visited Golden City Restaurant in Kearny Villa on a Sunday around 2 PM, and it was a pleasant experience. The place wasn’t crowded, and parking was ample, making it a hassle-free visit. Ordered the fish filet with tofu and the sweet and sour pork lunch special—both were flavorful and satisfying. Also tried the fried chicken wings, which were well-cooked and tasty. The serving sizes were impressive, very worth it for the price. The ambiance was great, and the service was efficient. Order taking, food serving, and billing were all quick and smooth. Tried their milk tea with boba, which was decent for its price point. Since we couldn’t finish everything, we had leftovers packed and even ordered extra Yang Chow fried rice to go. The total bill was $70, which was very reasonable for the amount and quality of food. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a good Cantonese restaurant. The only minor comment is that the older gentleman serving food could be more welcoming—he seemed quite serious. However, the lady taking the order had a warm smile and was very friendly. Overall, a great spot for a satisfying and affordable meal! Will definitely return.

Google
Three of us had our thanksgiving dinner in this Cantonese restaurant, we ordered 5 dishes and two cups of soup, two of them, the Peking Pork Chop and eggplant in garlic sauce, were pretty good, the rests were average and even not good, especially the lamb in clay pot was disappointing. Services were almost none, but we understood it was thanksgiving night, no one wanted to work. Overall, it was a disappointment.

Golden City Restaurant in Claremont is a great spot for classic Chinese food with generous portions and reasonable prices. The menu has all the favorites, from chow mein and fried rice to flavorful seafood and barbecue pork dishes. The food comes out fresh and hits the spot, especially if you're craving something comforting. It’s a no-nonsense, casual place that focuses on good food without the frills. If you're in the area and want a satisfying Chinese meal, it’s definitely worth a stop.

We come here once or twice a week! The food is fabulous and generously served. Better than in China. And the best Hot & Sour soup ever. Economical prices, and are excellent for catering. A full-meal Luncheon special until 3 pm, with a wide range of choices, and a great value.

Golden City Restaurant is located in a strip mall and shares the parking lot with other businesses. No problems finding parking here. Interior deco is outdated. People come here for the authentic casual Chinese dining experiences and definitely not for upscale ambiance. We got to the restaurant around 8:40pm after got rejected by two Vietnamese restaurants because they were closing at 9pm. Half of the restaurant was occupied by a large group celebrating the Chinese Moon Festival. We managed to wave down a waitress with our fingers crossed that they would serve us. We got lucky and we were seated but she warned us that we needed to order immediately as kitchen is about to close. Three minutes after we sat down, waitress came back with hot tea and asked us to order. We hadn’t even look at the menu thoroughly at the point. So, under some pressure, we ordered some typical Cantonese dishes we had at other Chinese restaurants and then we also asked the waitress to suggest couple dishes. Dishes came out fast and we ate fast because we were extremely hungry and also we knew that the restaurant was closing soon. We were grateful that they served us a delicious meal. All of us really liked the crab meat with fish maw soup (even the picky eater). We also ordered honey walnut shrimp, garlic stir fried veggie, cubed beef with green peppers and jalapeño, beef chow fun dry style and salted fish with chicken fried rice. All dishes were very good and authentic. We didn’t get a chance to take pictures of some of the dishes we really liked because we had to eat fast: tasty soup and fried rice but they were very good and fried rice portion was big and we had a boxful of leftover fried rice to take home. Because it was closing time, they didn’t give us the free sweetened bean soup dessert which was usually given to customers after dinner. Free hot tea was served with meal. As we were leaving, we thanked the waitress for letting us in. She was gracious and said we were welcome and invited us back. Nice staff! 10/2023 update. We went back to the restaurant as most places were busy on Friday nights. Once again, we were able to get seated for a large group within 5 minutes. We order Peking duck, roasted duck, beef chow fun noodle, egg drop soup, string beans, fried rice and spicy fried chicken wings. All dishes were delicious especially the roasted duck which was juicy, super tender and served warm. Waitstaff gave us free red bean soup for dessert. We will be back to try other dishes for sure.

Google
I wouldn't say it is a hidden gem since it is well known among the oldies but it is a sweet surprise for me for sure. I attended my first group dining since Pandemic and this restaurant didn't disappoint me, lucky me! The local favorite is Fried Cruller Porridge as I was told. We didn't order any of the porridge dishes. Fried pork chop with spicy salt was a big hit. If you opt for seafood and are a big fan of shrimp, try out shrimp with honey glazed walnut, it is flavorful and melts in your mouth. Cube Beef with Black Pepper is pretty good too. The reason I only gave four stars instead of five star is that the service is a bit slow. Highly recommend this restaurant, especially if you are in the mood of some really authentic Chinese food ( HK style ).

Yelp
I was seated right away. The restaurant is pretty big. I enjoyed the Salted Pepper Fried Chicken with rice. The price was decent. I paid around $25 for my meal with tip. It was a good portion because I had leftovers. Before I left, I overheard them take in a party of 30! Pretty good for a last minute notice!

Yelp
Let's start off with the good. They have one of my absolute favorite chow mein/lo mein (I always forget what the real difference is lol) that I have ever had. The combination chow mein -- or "Three Ingredients Chow Mein" as they call it -- is so good. The 3 ingredients refers to the meats they add - beef, chicken and shrimp. Those meats mixed in with the veggies and the perfectly slurpy noodles together make a great bite. And the best yet - it's not salty! Many times, chow mein can just be overpowered by the soy sauce or sodium seasoning they use. This one is pretty darn perfect. I only wish that the other foods here was as good. It's not that it's bad per se, but there are definitely better options in the area, especially in the Convoy district. One dish that I have tried that I would stay away from is the Orange Chicken. We ordered it recently to go and with me living right across the street, a 2 minute drive should not result in soggy yet dry at the same time Orange Chicken. It was disappointing.

Yelp
Busy on a Friday night! Parking can be tough he but it does share a plaza with a few other restaurants and shops. They serve your classic dishes and speciality items you would find at any other chinese restaurants. Family style dishes that are traditionally shared. We went with the classic shrimp fried rice and the broccoli beef dish since we were near. Nothing too spexatacular but not bad at all! The wait time is the big one for me, otherwise it's a great place to dine in with a large party

Yelp
Super disappointed. Garlic beef had no garlic. Filet tenderloin pepper beef had little pepper. Both dishes actually tasted the same (other than his filet and my regular beef). Hot and sour soup was bland. No hot mustard or sweet and sour for the fried wontons. One entree came out alone and couldn't start eating because plain white steamed rice came 15 mins later. Second entree around that time too. Even messed up the bill paying process, didn't give back credit card ( thank goodness noticed before driving away). And no fortune cookies

Yelp
This was my mom's favorite Chinese restaurant and we used to go here a lot when she was with us. It has been at least 5 years since we came here. The good was good (not great), but service really sucked. I remember the waitress was always nice, but on this occasion, she was downright rude and impatient. My brother was in charge of ordering, and she snapped at him "what do you want?!" We ordered 8 dishes to share family style and she made a rude comment that "it's not enough!" It was actually more than enough and we even had leftovers. My 2 nieces barely ate, so it was basically one dish per adult. Good thing we weren't pressured to order more! We will think twice before coming here again. Our favorite Chinese restaurant is actually Noble Chef. The food there is excellent and we always receive exceptional service there. It's not worth coming back here due to the rude staff. Or waitress was rude and the other staff did not even acknowledge our existence. The restaurant itself is ugly. I can see that they repainted it since the last time I was here, but it's an ugly aqua color. We wanted to take a family group photo since my sister-in-law's brother was visiting from out of town, but there wasn't a single spot in the restaurant that made a decent background. No pics it is then!

Yelp
This restaurant is one of my parent's favorite Chinese restaurants in San Diego so we came here for my mom. Their food selection is quite varied with a lot of choices. The place was quite busy for a Saturday evening. We ordered the chicken and corn soup, chicken fried rice, fish fillet with vegetables, and the tofu with scallops dishes. The server was patient as we were trying to decide and she recommended the tofu entree. The portion sizes were generous for all the dishes and we had leftovers for everything. The recommended tofu with scallops was very good. The sauce tasted good on rice as did the fish fillet. The fish was cooked well and was nice and tender. The soup was okay. Kinda on the bland side. The fried rice could have been better if the rice didn't have occasional crunchy grains. I like that this restaurant has a lot of seating and can accommodate large tables. Our server was very friendly and helpful. As long as my mom likes this place, we will be back.

Yelp
I'm always on the lookout for really good Chinese food that evokes memories of places like Panda Inn, Panda Country and Chins. It's been years since we've gone to Golden City and I'm so glad they are still in business and serving really good, tasty Chinese food. We started with the sizzling rice soup - the broth is light and tasty, the meats are cooked to perfection and the sound of the hot sizzling rice hitting the hot soup is wonderful. The clams with ginger and green onions wee so tasty and delicious. The beef with onions and green peppers so tasty and the crowd favorite shrimp with honey glazed walnuts were what we were looking for. The restaurant is large and spacious. We got there early in the evening and the wait staff were welcoming and helpful. I'm so glad we rediscovered Golden City. If you reminisce for the this kind of Chinese food, give Golden City a try.

Yelp
Golden City is the OG of Chinese Restaurants which has been in San Diego for decades from my parents generation. We had a family gathering with two tables of 10. We had to video call those who couldn't attend. GC offered free wifi that I was able to use on my iPad. The kids table ordered mainly fried foods but our adult table ordered the below. We ordered too much that the lazy Susan ran out of room and had to use the empty table next to us. -Braised yee noodles w mushroom - much chewier than chow mein, mushroom sauce was yummy -Vegetarian chow fun - choice of dry or wet (gravy). I like dry but decided for gravy and never again. I like the char not drenched in sauce. -Mu shu vegetable - it's like a burrito wrapped in thin flour tortilla. Came in 4 which was filling after one. -Salted fish fried rice w chicken - a must whenever at a Chinese restaurant -Honey walnut shrimp - a must -Fisherman style crab - only had one level of spice -Crabmeat & fish maw soup - very little crab and lots of maw -Peking duck lettuce wrap two course: first course came with crispy thin duck skin with baos and the second came with lettuce -Egg plant w spicy garlic sauce - had onions, bamboo shoots and green bell peppers, not spicy Overall, a nostalgic place for the elders. Food was average and came out quick. Service was exceptional. 3.5 rounding to 4.

Yelp
Traditionally, my family eats out on Christmas Eve/Day and we've decided to celebrate at Golden City on Christmas Eve. They are very accommodating to large parties and gatherings as I've attended many grad dinners here as well as some family dinners. Peking Duck (5/5): Served with hoisin sauce and sliced green onion. The crispy duck skin is marvelous with the warm steamed bun. Steamed Fish (5/5): The waitress recommended us the striped bass and it was delicious. The dark sauce was not too salty, and the striped bass had enough fat to make it taste buttery. Fish Maw & Crab Soup (4/5): The fish maw was minced finely and we had a couple pieces of crab in each bite. So heartwarming and one of my favorite Chinese soups. Dried Shrimp/Scallop Chinese Broccoli Fried Rice (3.5/5): This fried rice is flavored from the dried seafood. I didn't really enjoy this one as much because I prefer the other style of fried rice better. They were short staffed but provided great service for my family. The restaurant hasn't changed its looks for the past several years, but it definitely hits with their food!

Yelp
You can't judge an restaurant by its exterior or how it furnishes This restaurant is definitely a treasure to us After trying most of Chinese/Cantonese cuisine restaurants in SD We didn't hold any expectations till our friend recommended us to give it a try The food tastes authentic and delicious We ordered 9 dishes in total Salted and spicy pork chop Roasted duck Lamb stew Fried fish fillets with creamy corn sauce Shrimp foo young Stir-fried vegetables Crab noodle Scallop and egg white fried rice Yang chow fried rice All the seasoning is just right on the point Only the fish fillet' s batter is a little heavy for me The price is reasonable and all the food's portion are generous The restaurant is currently understaffed Might need to wait a bit But the service is nice All of our friends were satisfied with this meal Overall , We will definitely go back

Yelp
I enjoyed good food and good service. The orange chicken is surprisingly good. It being close to my workplace is a good plus.

Yelp
Good food. Fast Service. A place I enjoy going back time and time again. Probably the best shrimp fried rice in all of San Diego.

Yelp
Where do I get started... When we first walked in, we had waited about 5 minutes since there was nobody there to seat us. The place wasn't too busy but I was just confused where any server was. We were then brought some menus, which is their main menu. However, we did go during the lunch hours and noticed that others were also gi en a lunch menu that had cheaper prices. It seemed weird how they had just forgotten to give us that lunch menu but others got it. Here, half way through our meal I had noticed and felt we were being up sold. Anyways, for the environment, I thought the place was large which is nice but there were a clear lack of decorations and for some reason dozens of security cameras in the ceiling - it felt a bit off. And when we sat next to the window it didn't seem too clean. I should have known! In the middle of our meal I noticed that there were two fruit flies flying around our food as well - not appetizing. Ok so, on to the food itself! Chicken and corn soup - the flavor was pretty tasty and you could taste the sharp vinegar flavor. However, the texture of the soup was a bit odd. The soup came out hot, which makes it seem fresh but parts of the soup were more gelatinous than others which seemed odd. Overall, I'd skip the one. Spicy squid - YUM this was flash fried and had the perfect crispness to it. The jalapenos and spice topped it off perfectly. I can definitely recommend. Fish with veg - it was alright. I mean just what I expected, nothing bad or good. Mushu - this was interesting... Kinda like Chinese burritos with noddle veg and mushroom with your choice of protein. If you think that sounds good, I'd give it a try. Anyways, overall I'd say the food is varying and I'm slightly annoyed we were only given the main menu and not the lunch menu. But I will say... For now my stomach isn't too happy and I don't think the interior was very clean.

Yelp
Wow! Golden City reminds of my childhood! I'm Chinese-Vietnamese and was born in America grew up in a 1st generation "fresh of the boat" household. Golden City is just like the REAL Chinese restaurants my parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles ate in San Francisco and Oakland CA. Customers are 99% Asians, and I can hear and understand the loud Cantonese and Mandarin that was being spoken by everyone. If you're complaining about the "service" and "ambience", then you've probably never ever been to a real authentic old school Chinese restaurant: -The hot tea is FREE! -Warm Tapioca dessert is also FREE! -If you need some something, just smile and wave down the nearest employee. If you want someone to pretend that they care about your well being and eat unauthentic Chinese food, go to PF Changs. And the food is good! And the portions are big! The meat entrees are usually cooked with some vegetables, so don't feel obligated to or a veggie dish. $22 Shrimp with Honey Glazed Walnut...we all know this dish right Its the BEST one in San Diego $16 Orange Chicken...a safe pick, but also delicious! $16 Beef Chow Fun...lots of beef! Lots of Fun(Fun means rice noodles in Chinese, but they're also "Fun" in general) $18 Shrimp Chow Mein...lots and lots of big shrimp! Added bonus is that Golden City has a decent shared parking lot, and its NOT on Convoy Street, which has been become crazy the past several years which makes it challenging to find parking, even on a week night. Golden City is my new "Go to" Chinese restaurant.
google avatar

Han L.

Yelp
It's alright. We liked the beef tenderloin with black bean sauce, but the chow fun noodles were not cooked together properly. They were broken, stuck together, etc. It was not a proper chow fun.
google avatar

Jerry H.

Yelp
This Chinese restaurant has authentic style recipes of Asian dishes. The decor is just ok and a bit dated but who cares if the food is top notch. We had a variety of dishes from black pepper steak, lobster over noodles, honey walnut shrimp and duck dumpling tacos. The shrimp fried rice was delicious and tasty but not over seasoned. Just perfect. Fantastic food here. The service here was fast and efficient. If you want no nonsense high quality food, this place is amazing.
google avatar

Natalie T.

Yelp
Oh my gosh. We live like 15 seconds away and I'm so happy we finally got take out from here. We used to order from dumpling inn but the wait times got wayyyy too ridiculous. I'd pick golden city over dumpling inn ANY DAY. Chow mein with beef, walnut honey glazed shrimp, and beef with onion and ginger were ALL 20/10. I've had walnut shrimps that have been soggy and unappetizing and this one really hit the spot with flavor and crispness. The beef with ginger and onion was sooooo flavorful and the chow mein was delicious - portions were also big. We are going to order again on Sunday. I'm excited just thinking about it lol

Yelp
The best Chinese in all of San Diego We love Chinese and usually lean toward Jasmine but this one is a 100% better. We had it delivered and LOVED everything we ordered. From now on this is da place

Eddy H.

Yelp
Food is great and great service. Definitely recommend!! The food is really good especially the lamb!

Carl S.

Yelp
Ordered online yesterday only to arrive and sign on door says closed on Eednesdays. Really? Then don't accept int et net orders and have your website say you are open. Really shows disregard and lack of concern for your customers.

Jane D.

Yelp
So so Chinese takeout or dine in. I only tried once so I can't tell if other dishes are great or not. Eggplant stir fry with bamboo shoots was a little bitter. Shrimp and snow peas stir fry is just standard but good taste. Fried salt and pepper squid was bad, chewy and oily.
google avatar

Celina C.

Yelp
My favorite Chinese restaurant near work. Great section and everything I have had has been fabulous. Service is great and friendly. Recommend it.
google avatar

Aaron S.

Yelp
I think they have among the best Chinese food in the city. I wish they had dimsum but other than that, they have a great menu and great food!!

Sue R.

Yelp
Wonderful family owned restaurant with attentive wait staff. Great for big parties (family celebrations, holidays)-- excellent menu for a Cantonese feast. Our favorites include: - Peking Duck 2 ways - Potstickers - Garlic ginger lobster and crab - Fried E-meen noodles - Black bean and beef chow fun - Fried tofu cubes (lots of vegetarian options!) - Pork chops - Yeung chow fried rice - Nice variety of Chinese vegetables We enjoy coming here as a family where "everybody knows our name". It's a special place where our family gathers regularly and we can count on quality food in a relaxed environment. Don't let the dim sign outside turn you away--give it a try!
google avatar

Marisa F.

Yelp
I have been trying to find a good place for east coast style Chinese food and this place might just be the ticket. Mapo tofu, the sautéed snow pea leaves, pepper beef, lo mein, and the egg drop soup were all delicious!
google avatar

Jenn C.

Yelp
1000% SUPPORT THIS FAMILY BUSINESS because my dad is co-owner. Please support small businesses!
google avatar

Amy P.

Yelp
We really like this restaurant and have gone several times so far. The menu is pretty big, lots of choices...the food is so tasty and the portions are very generous--worth the price, unlike some restaurants. It's nice to have leftovers and also if you want to share multiple dishes. The free hot tea is also a nice perk as not every place does that either. They are friendly there and it's a nice atmosphere. They work very hard too as it is a busy place. We'll definitely go back and would recommend.
google avatar

Ed P.

Yelp
As authentic as mandarin cuisine can get! The new owners has exceptional cooks preparing outstanding food. This takes me back to my early childhood meals in the original preparation of food prepared true to non influenced recipes of Vietnamese and Thai
google avatar

R Y.

Yelp
Go to Chinese restaurant! Locals in the know frequent Golden City. If you are looking for authentic Chinese cuisine this is the place. We hosted a Luna New Years dinner- take out: 8 dishes, bbq pork, beef with snow peas, peking pork chops, sweet n sour chicken, stuffed tofu, fresh greens tossed in garlic sauce, Chow mein 3 ingredients, sea bass. Very reasonable $25/ person. Guests were delighted, food was holsum & delicious. Here's the amazing fact, ordered the dinner at 430pm. All 8 dishes prepared in 20 min. If you are in the know gotta go!

Yelp
Nice alternative to Eastern Dynasty if one seeks for it. They offer more options for Cantonese dishes. This place offers quite a larger menu and surprisingly offers more options that Eastern Dynasty doesn't. I tried the fried fish battered corn sauce and that was pretty tasty. Not the best I had but it was decent. The corn sauce wasn't thick enough than what I'm accustomed to. I also got a shrimp fried rice and it was tasty. The shrimp was nice and plump and bouncy. Only small caveat was they used fresh rice which is not what you typically do when making fried rice. Not a big issue as I'm fine with it but something to note. We also got half a chicken ("gwai fai gaay)") and that was actually pretty good and good portions. I think I like this one better than what Eastern Dynasty serves. We also ordered the deep fried tofu and that was just okay. I like the Sam Woo's take better than Eastern Dynasty and this place. Overall I'm pretty content with the quality and portions here. I would come and order here again for Cantonese dishes.

Kiwi K.

Yelp
We ordered one large lobster but got maybe a half a lobster, part of it was mushy and not tasty, the other parts were okay. Usually we r full but this time, the lobster was bigger, and neither of us were full.

Emma L.

Yelp
We ordered the cold chicken dish. It didn't taste fresh. It tasted like a few days old. The noodle that we ordered was not the typical noodle that I expected.

Yelp
Hi sorry. This place was no good. We came here for a family thing, and even though my uncle is all about this restaurant, I was very surprised with the food situation. We had a banquet style thing so everything was pre-ordered. From what I can recall, these were the dishes for each table: -crab meat and fish maw soup -shrimp with green vegetable -sautéed rock cod fish -sweet and sour pork -boiled chicken with ginger sauce -Chinese broccoli -dried scallop, shrimp + Chinese broccoli We started off with the crab meat and fish maw soup - interesting in texture, but what the heck is maw? I had 0 explanations for my niece who asked about the white things in the soup. Of the things we ordered, the sautéed rock cod fish was delicious as with the sweet and sour pork - all would have fared better if paired with white rice, but such was not the case. The worst was the shrimp with green vegetable (celery btw) and the Chinese broccoli. My nieces and nephews love Chinese broccoli, however, the broccoli we got was old as hell and in no one manageable to eat - so chewy and bitter tasting. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good. Would I come here for a casual dinner? Definitely not.

Yelp
Very fresh food... last time we ate Chinese (different restaurant) it was old rehashed meals. We've been coming to this place on and off for some years; they have a new menu & our waiter was very jovial! We ordered hot & sour soup, spring rolls and three entrees! Shout out to Albert--super friendly!!
google avatar

Michelle D.

Yelp
The food was ok. Disappointed because the Mongolian beef had 1 green onion and an entire regular onion cut up into it. If you don't have the ingredients, please just let me know you can't make it. Regular onions aren't an appropriate substitute for green onions in this dish. The cream cheese wontons were good and so was the wonton soup. First time having this via call/pick up. I'd go for the wonton soup again, but otherwise unimpressed.

Yelp
My cousin was telling me this place had some good Chinese food, so I came to try it out on a Sunday night and ordered takeout. I called in the order nice and easy, I ordered shrimp egg foo young, shrimp chop Suey, and orange chicken. The egg foo young came with this amazing gravy sauce, delicious ! The orange chicken was very lightly battered and tasted sweet and sour, amazing! The shrimp chop Suey was delicious love the bean sprouts in the large shrimp. Definitely recommend this place for some good Chinese food!

Yelp
The best Chinese authentic food in San Diego . The server very polite . Food cane very quick , hot and delicious . The bad thing just we cant enjoy our meal because group of people was drunk and loud

Yelp
Just had the most confusing experience here. Came at 4:11pm where the restaurant was so empty that we thought it might have been closed. The hostess sees six of us, and goes into the kitchen, and comes back to tell us that it's reservations only... and sends us away. From an empty restaurant. No signage anywhere for reservation only...and also, if it were reservation only she would've told us up front. Not sure what's going on here, but will not be back.

Khanh N.

Yelp
This is the best authentic Chinese restaurant in San Diego!! We go here for the Peking duck, kids love it. It's typical Chinese service, some of these people have been here 20+ years and is very efficient. All the dishes are very tasty. I can tell that they have regulars that always eat there for years. We enjoyed all the dishes. Waiters are nice and the place is typical looking with big and small tables, so can be convenient when having big groups. They are very accommodating.
google avatar

Lyna S.

Yelp
The staffs are super friendly and the foods are great. They mostly custom made to your request. I love my vegan dishes most of the time. My girl friend loves this place too. Thus is one if ours favorite place .

Haotian F.

Yelp
The server is rude and impatient. He basically smashed things on our face. Asking for one glass of ice water which we never get till end of the meal. This is based on we are ordering more than 5 entries for 3 adults and a kid. One of the ingredients in our soup apparently smells bad. Food wise all pretty salty and no way near authentic Cantonese food which we expected. Will not recommend this place at all. One of the worst I've ever experienced across US considering food and service combined

P C.

Yelp
Very disappointed. Americanized Chinese food. Service cannot be more worse. If you like something like sesame chicken, this might be the right place for you. I feel it's a waste of my money and time.

Yelp
Beef tenderloin with black pepper sauce and steamed rice $25.95 big portion, fast service, I pulled out the green, it was comfortable seating, parking lot had one open spot, with a diet coca-cola and tip it was about $36.

Yelp
I probably never would have had this restaurant on my radar because it's tucked away in a little strip mall but I was invited to a Chinese New Year dinner by one of my girlfriends. We had a 10 course family style dinner that was delicious!!! I can't remember all of the courses but stand outs for me were the crab and fish maw soup, crispy duck, walnut shrimp, ginger-glazed crab, fried rice and mustard greens. That's 6 out of ten, heck yeah! They served a lovely chrysanthemum tea as well. My friend is from Hong Kong and says that the cuisine here is very authentic. There were a lot of Chinese families celebrating here so the atmosphere was quite nice. The decor in the restaurant is a little stark and bare bones, a few improvements in that area and this restaurant could really stand out!

Yelp
I went to Golden City with friends for Chinese New Years. We had 8 people with us. This place is exactly what we wanted in the meal. Golden City is a classic chinese restaurant where all of the servers speak only half English and kind of rush you to eat and leave, but again it was exactly what we were looking for. We had a spread of tea, egg drop soup, rice, beef noodles, fish, tofu, and veggies. Everything tasters awesome. Highly recommend the eggplant plate. That was the fasted thing to be finished!

Yelp
I wish I took pictures.. but I was so hungry, I forgot. This restaurant is delicious & authentic Chinese cuisine!! I love the traditional Chinese restaurants that serve the hot jasmine tea and serve dishes a la carte. This restaurant did just that.. We ordered the lunch special Mongolian beef & Chicken mushroom, and ordered side orders of the crispy noodles (seafood), wonton soup & steamed dumplings. The lunch special was perfect & appropriately priced. The lunch special came with your choice of soup- egg drop or hot & sour, white rice or fried rice, egg roll & wonton appetizer & your choice of main dish. The food came out very quickly, hot & fresh.. The egg drop soup was delicious. The Mongolian beef was tasty & perfectly spicy. The mushroom chicken was also very flavorful & the wonton soup was delicious. Our favorite was the crispy noodles- definitely recommend! The steamed dumplings were also very good. Service here was very good, the waiters were kind & fast. Although this restaurant seems to be a little hidden gem in a fairly busy plaza. I definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for authentic Chinese cuisine. :)

Yelp
When I say YUM I mean YUM!!!! I ordered scallops with spicy garlic sauce and I was blown away. Never has fish tasted so good to me. This was my first dish at Golden City and my first time dining with them. I mean that figuratively, I ordered take out. ;-) But this will now on be my go-to Chinese food restaurant in San Diego! You can taste the quality. Definitely check this place out!

Yelp
When I saw the reviews regarding service I knew this place would be good...and it was indeed delicious! Service was honestly better than I was expecting. My water and tea and was never empty. Plus the prices are super reasonable! Our party of eight got: Egg flower soup, Chinese Brocolli, a tofu dish, stir fry eggplant, Stir fry fish, and some Chow meins.everything was delicious. Especially the fish, it was tender and flavourful! The eggplant was also cooked perfectly. Everything else was good too, but more average.

Yelp
