Golden Cone Frozen Custard & Ice Cream - Royal Oak

They were sold out of a lot of ice cream flavors for the season so I opted for the birthday cake and it was sooooooo goooooood!!! Yellow cake with fudge pieces and sprinkles. I feel like my photo doesn’t do the size justice but I was very pleased with my serving. I’d get the same thing next time or try the custard.

Great customer service. An awesome vibe with delicious custard and ice cream. I think it’s a historic building.

CUSTARD M’LADY 🍦 Step on in to custard land USA…or that’s what we thought…after a long hard day of enjoying interior Detroit, it was time for custard! But they were all out. With many other flavors our too. 🥺 But it was a unseasonably warm day and hey, i’m one to give them a break and a big pat on the back. They had chocolate!! and guess what my secret is?…I love chocolate. Yum!! 😋 My Misses was devastated by the lack of custard. I comforted her and it was okay. Chocolate ice cream also helped in that situation. Hehe. THANK YOU!!!!

Absolutely best ice cream in town! Such a cute hole in the wall place and they use gurnseys ice cream which is just incredible tasting, they have shakes and parfaits and and Sundays and floats! Would highly recommend!

Found this place on Instagram and had been plotting my visit for a few months. This was hands down theeeee best custard I've ever had in my life. The strawberry shortcake ice cream sandwich was to die for. The down side of this delicious taste bud altering ice cream and custard (it's really a slice of foodie heaven) is I want it all the time and I don't live in Michigan. If you're from out of town...eat it and know that you'll be craving it weeks later. I also had the chance to meet the owner who is a delightful man and treats all his guests like close friends. I enjoyed the experience as much as the ice cream.

The ice cream is amazing, with a large assortment of choices. The employees are always friendly and offer you samples so you can choose. The serving sizes are very generous, and you can eat while sitting outside and enjoy the atmosphere, I love this place!!!

Stopped in here tonight at Arts, Eats, and Beats! Such a good spot to grab some ice cream! The custard is amazing (both chocolate and vanilla). Even though it was busy because of the festival, the service was quick. Great ice cream spot!

Golden cone is the cutest mom and pop ice cream shop downtown royal oak. They are only open in the summer though. They use guernsey farms dairy so I feel good about shopping local, plus it's really high quality. I have been bummed because they used to carry my favorite flavor- peanut butter cookie dough and I haven't seen it in a while. I have been getting lavender honey in the meantime, which is good but miss my pb cookie dough!

Only one person working was cleaning when I came in and ignored me for about a minute before telling me that they didn't have milf for milkshakes

Simply the best! The custard is amazing. I have to try to be disciplined and not go everyday, it's that good! The service is excellent and extremely friendly. It's always got a nice little vibe outside too. Always know summer is here when Golden Cone opens.

Always out of hard vanilla and chocolate hard-ice cream and and sprinkles. Ice cream is great when they have it in stock. Poor Management because she does not listen to customers.

This place has delicious ice cream and friendly employees. The employee was very patient as my wife and I made our decisions. They serve great quality ice cream and a good quantity of ice cream too.

They have many options, some that I have never seen before. The line is always busy and the worker's are very sweet and efficient. One of my faves in metro Detroit!

Golden Cone is a cute little shop in Downtown Royal Oak. I've been here around 4 times with my sister. Although the shop is cute, the staff is always incredibly friendly and the service is quick - there's always just a "meh" feeling about the ice cream. The custard is more of a frozen cool whip consistency and dim flavor - it never truly hits the spot. The hard scoops are okay, but the flavors, again, just don't hit the spot for us. Maybe it's us and our insane sweet tooths, who knows.

Great ice cream, I wish they were opening until 11:00 on Saturday.I like the tast and the serving was awesome.

On a warm, sunny day you're walking down the street and see a few people standing in line for.. ICECREAM! I never knew this place was here.. but of course my toddler saw icecream & had a full on panic attack that could only be treated with chocolate chip cookie dough. The best part is there's a little outside window to order form or you can go inside. There's a few little tables and a bench nearby. They have both icecream and frozen yogurt. Loved it! Ambiance is cute and fun. Workers were really sweet too.

Tried to go here at 723pm on Tuesday April 25. Door was locked even though sign on the door says open till 9pm.

This is our second time trying to get ice cream with our friends. They keep telling us how amazing it is. We were in line at 9:40 this time and they already had their "last ice cream" cup in the line. Maybe one day we will ya ethos delicious location.

Everything on this menu I've had is good. My favorite is the pineapple dole whip. They have great options for dairy free too. Lots and lots of options

This is by far one of my favorite ice cream places. They have so many different flavors and they are all amazing. I usually get the lavender and blue moon, but they didn't have the blue moon when I went yesterday. Instead I got the pistachio and lavender and they were both so yummy together. The lavender taste is subtle and not overpowering, which I love. My friend ordered the lavender and the white chocolate russian latte and she loved both of them. She said the latte flavor was a very subtle coffee flavor and that it was delicious. I'm definitely going to try that one next time. The workers were very kind and it was pretty busy. I loved that they opened up a window instead of having people come inside. I know the interior is pretty small. I am already craving their ice cream again and I can't wait to be back! Please being back the blue moon!!

We stopped in after the Royal Oak Taco Festival. The staff was friendly, even though they were super busy. The ice-cream is what really matters though and it was delicious! I had the snickers ice-cream and I certainly made a good choice! It had a couple small chunks of snickers, (could have had a few more) lots of gooey Carmel and the ice-cream itself was creamy and wonderful! If you are anywhere near Royal Oak, make sure you stop in for a treat!

Very very amazing staff. They let us in 10 minutes prior to closing even though I told them to kick us out if they had to but they said no. So far one of my favorite places to get a basic cone of custard! Staff always welcoming and so make ice creams to choose from! Though I go after the custard. I also love how they have custard of the month. Just in case you're sick of vanilla and or chocolate. Love this place.

We've been looking for an authentic custard place as our old place has gone down hill and is nothing more than soft serve. Golden Cone is wonderful and our new favorite. Great custard and great service!! So glad we found you. Keep up the good work!!

I love their McGuire's Irish Mint in a cup. The big chunks of dark chocolate are crunchy and a nice balance to the creamy mint ice cream. My hubby and I fight over the dark chocolate chunks. We share a cup to spread out the calories and if I can I take first dibs at the bowl so I can eat as many chunks possible and leave a few for my hubby. He claims I only left him one last week, wasn't my intent if I did, but his claim is questionable at best. Enjoy an ice cream and a stroll around downtown.

Golden cone is very cozy and family friendly shop. The staff are polite and friendly. The patio outside is great to utilize after getting your tasty treat! The ice cream is fresh and they have some interesting flavor combos. I also love the ice cream sandwiches crafted by Auntie Rah Rah's! I really wish they were open year round!

We come here often, it's an easy walk. I am not a huge fan of custard, which is my only downfall is they don't have other soft serve options expect for a dairy free one. (I should order it one day). Their ice flavors are phenomenal and they have these special ice cream cookies which also look amazing. They serve Guernsey ice cream which is a great brand and they have a large variety of flavors.

This little shop in Royal Oak is serving some of my favorite ice cream flavors mashed up together. I know you're wondering so let me tell you -- I love peanut butter, coffee, and nuts in my ice cream. There are lots of flavors to choose from. Also, they have shakes and soft serve which I need to try ASAP. By the way, they are generous with their scoops so go on and treat yo' self! I know I will be.

Loved this place! It's a cute hidden gem. I had the coffee mocha chip along with a scoop of butter pecan in a waffle cone. It was so flavorful, worth the $6, and it was huge! They're not stingy at all with the portion size. I was very satisfied with my ice cream and plan on returning in the future :)

Super cute little spot in Royal Oak. Came here on recommendation of a friend after eating at Cafe Muse. They actually didn't open for another 20 minutes so I went to have coffee at Atomic to stall for time and I'm so glad I waited! Delicious flavors of ice cream and great custard!! I got the vanilla custard with butterscotch dip, Oreos, and Andes mints. The custard legit doesn't melt, it's amazing. The owner was incredibly nice and chats with everyone that comes in. So glad I stopped by before heading back home!

Literally am here almost once or twice a week. Their custard is my favorite of all time. Love the cookie sandwiches and the guernsey ice cream, but for the the plan custard trumps it all. My favorite ice cream place EVER.

Options. It was perfect for our crew. We had those wanting Ice, and others wanting ice cream. They offered a multitude of flavors fished out by pros. The portions were nice, and the wait was minimal. Parking was good, even though it was on a busy street. Looking forward to a return.

I scream. You scream. We all scream for ice-cream! Best local shop for scoops by far. Lots of yummy flavors, great staff and a few seats inside and out if you don't want to walk around "The Oak" and show your cream off to others. They carry Guernsey Ice Cream, which has quickly become our fav brand since moving to Michigan. I love the Detroit Grand Slam and Grandpa's Blueberry. Highly recommend. Skip the other joints in the area and hit G-Cone today!

Nice little place, very busy. I wanted to sample the custard but they don't have sample cups. The worker said she can build a custard cup and if I didn't like it I could exchange it. I tried the custard, it was ok, not bad but nothing too spectacular. I did not send it back.

I love that they serve Guernsey Farms ice cream! Absolutely the best and tons of flavor options to choose from. Conveniently located downtown and even when there's a line it always seems to go pretty quickly. Love it. Haven't had their custard or ice cream sandwiches but those also look phenomenal.

I'll admit to having walked by this place a few times this summer thinking they were just another ice cream place. I was wrong!!! Guernsey dairy ice cream and custard made in-house. Great flavor options, adorable interior, and incredibly kind/friendly staff. My friend and I got the Blueberry way ice cream and the vanilla/chocolate twist with jimmies on an evening stroll (catching Pokemon, ha!). We were both very happy with our choices. We will definitely be stopping back in a few more times this summer!

A great option for ice cream and frozen custard after a day of exploring Detroit. I visited after the August O.A.R. concert, and was pleasantly surprised by the location, service, and food. The venue is located by the train tracks, and has a classic feel. The service is helpful and respectful, offering honest suggestions and advice. I ordered a Boston Cooler (first time doing so), and found it sweet and refreshing. My only qualm is that the price seems a bit much, but otherwise this is a great place to cool down!

Stopped by today on a whim, and we were really glad we did! We had the custard, which was excellent, but it was overshadowed by the extremely friendly staff and amazing ambiance. The owner and his daughter were there and were so friendly and knowledgeable. My mother-in-law asked about a picture on the wall, and the owner enthusiastically gave us an incredible history of the building. They also didn't mind my 1-year-old running around. They carry more than 30 flavors of Guernsey ice cream, and I would have liked to have tried them all. Hopefully we will be back soon so I can!

So many delicious flavors, I tried the lemon custard and strawberry shortcake. Very good! Definitely coming back to try more flavors, the frozen custard also looks good.

The place was nice. The young ladies at the counter were nice. One single scoop cone was $2. 75 I could get a gallon at the grocery store for 2.50! I guess a one time indulgence is ok. When I feel like indulging again and I'm in downtown Roy Oak I will go to this plave.

Stumbled upon this place, it's really quite easy to miss But i'm really glad that I decided to go in. They have the best frozen custard I've ever had! Super rich and creamy, just delicious. Wish I lived closer because I crave it all the time!

Yum! A good spot for some ice cream on a hot day in Royal Oak. Be warned that flocks of people may randomly hit this place up and cause a line, but it goes pretty fast despite only two people working behind the counter. Lots of hand-scooped or soft-serve (with hard dip!) options. I got a cookies & cream shake and it was delightful.

Happened upon this place while taking a leisurely walk with my kid (who can spot an ice cream place with her eyes closed). Went inside just to check it out and ended up getting some ice cream. I am not a huge ice cream eater - usually too sweet for me, but the salted caramel turtle was simply amazing. I'm sure every time we're walking through town we'll be headed over. I thought it was a great price for the amount of ice cream. The only set back is the sucky parking situation in that part of downtown. Looking forward to heading back, though!

Get. The. Custard. It's so, soooo delicious. My go to is a twist in a waffle cone with rainbow sprinkles. It tastes like summer! Staff is so friendly and the selection of hard ice cream is also amazing. They let you taste whatever you want before making a choice. LOVE this place!

Yea this place is pretty damn good. Please shove a big serving a custard in your fathole (mouth). It taste so dense and creamy. I liked everything I sampled: Grandpa's way, pistachio, and something else fruity. The serving size is fab for what you're getting.

Best ice cream sandwich EVER!!! Retake on a Good Humor Strawberry Shortcake pop. Honestly, I was a little skeptical because the Strawberry Shortcake is my favorite ice bar, but I will say that it is considerably better than the original...wasn't expecting it! Also, the Dole Whip...AMAZING!!! My wife and son have dairy allergies and I got it because it was vegan - imagine thee best pineapple sorbet and soft serve had a love child...DOLE WHIP! Went back the next day! Lol. We will be repeat customers.
