"In the 1960s, the family started serving heavily seasoned food to go with alcoholic drinks. The third-generation owner still follows the same family recipes from the old days. Their signature deep-fried pork ribs are made with local pork, fried twice to seal in the juices and to crisp up the crust. The tonic soup chicken-in-tripe is a deboned free-range bird slow-cooked for seven hours inside pork tripe with various herbs and condiments." - Michelin Inspector

"The roots of Golden Formosa extend all the way back to the heydays in the hot spring district of Beitou. The establishment is now led by its third-generation successor in a location elegantly decorated to accommodate large groups. The signature dish here is the deep-fried pork rib. Every day, the chef follows the original 70-year-old recipe. His only tweak—trimming the Taiwanese baby back ribs into consistent sizes. The meat is then marinated and twice fried, best eaten right off the bone with bare hands. Other technique-driven items like the Buddha Jumps Over The Wall, poached free-range chicken and steamed mud crab over rice are all great that invoke a sense of nostalgia." - MICHELIN Guide Taipei Editorial Team

We had our lunch here for a special family gathering and this restaurant was the perfect place. Food coming out in correct orders and appropriate time between serving of each menu. Their lime juice was a big hit! As you can see from the photos they put great effort into each dish - both taste and presentation. The menu consists of authentic Taiwanese cuisine. Location-wise, it is situated in outer skirts of Taipei central, so travel via public transport may not be too straightforward. The staff kindly helped us arrange taxi after our meal.

Well deserved Michelin stars. Creative, delicious, and varied. Each dish was interesting, with a variety of flavors. The bamboo was delicate, the jellyfish spicy and the noodles ethereal. Place yourself as there are all many amazing dishes.

When I was a child, my parents always brought me to attend the feast held by the temples almost every month or two months. Nowadays, those dishes are hard to find. However, I found the exactly the same dishes and flavors in this restaurant. It refreshes my memory so much and I truly love it. The price maybe not be as affordable as the feast I attended before, but it’s worth if you would like to try those classical Taiwanese food. It’s so Tammy and delicious.

It’s my first time here with no experience of Taiwanese food. It’s 11 people per table with enormous 10 dishes and it’s cost 3,000 NT each. Amazing foods and great presentation. But we felt sad of the left over.

Came in with very high expectations (probably not a good thing) that this was going to be a blowout meal. Heard from multiple friends this is a place you need to visit. And very thankful I managed to secure a last minute reservation for 8 people. The food was certainly very good — some standouts were the sea urchin noodles, apple gourd stew/thick soup, spicy raw botan shrimp, century egg with minced meat sauce. Service overall was generally ok, some were more hospitable than others. What really didn’t work for me was the amount of time you’re allocated to dine. It’s a 8-10 course meal but they are trying to squeeze 2 rounds of diners between 5.30-9.30pm. With table turnaround time, you really only have 1h45 minutes to eat. And they are not joking. Expect them to bring out dessert immediately after they bring out the final main dish (within 1 minute) because the kitchen closes at 8.45pm. You’re pretty much rushing through the first 8 courses within about an hour (and no, we arrived early so still had to wait for our table). Main dishes come around 8.45pm. And dessert comes at 8.46pm because the kitchen is wrapping up. They won’t keep it warm for you. And they will literally kick you out by 9.30pm. You wait for your cab outside. Bottom line is extremely good food at a reasonable price. If you want to serve food at this quality and expect to turn the tables midway, then I would suggest extending the dining hours just slightly.. start at 5pm and end at 10pm. It’s not too ridiculous to ask for 2.5h of dining time when you’re trying to enjoy 10 courses. Staff are pretty much constantly rushing. That’s what prevents them from a 2nd Michelin star. Maybe they deliberately don’t want it?

Their food is outstanding although there were too much fried items.

Delicious, authentic and upscale Taiwanese food. Get the white-flesh fish (steamed), spare ribs, and meat-sauce tofu. The really annoying thing about this restaurant is that they REFUSE to answer their phones 📞 . I called for about 4 hours one night to make a reservation and always received a busy signal. When we showed up the next night and told the staff, they had a pre-rehearsed answer about how “their phones are just ALWAYS busy.” I walked right past the phones, never heard a single ring, and saw that the restaurant wasn’t full or busy.
