Golden Krust Caribbean Restaurant

Fisrt time ordering from this place and I always check the reviews on places I eat. I saw some negative and some positives. The food tasted really good, I also found the amount of food I got was way better than other places. The taste was delicious and tasty. I ordered the curry goat and I was very happy I order it. I will try the other plates and see how they taste. So far I love it.

I've always wanted a fast casual place for quality carribean food. Normally, you find mom & pop restaurants sprinkled throughout a minority or college area. Golden Krust seems very promising and has the makings of a full fledged national chain. I've squeezed in a visit the morning of a departure flight (score 10pts for a carribean restaurant being open for breakfast!) The options were mainly saltfish (cod) based, but their were varieties that included options of ackee, collard greens, or white beans. They were also served with boiled plantain, fried or boiled dough (festival and dumpling, respectively). Needless to say the food was well seasoned and delicious and the prices were reasonable. When in Boston again I will definitly go back for lunch and a few patties!

Good food, street parking, slow and sometimes rude service. You know, like you're bothering them when you order. Overcooked rice, but tender chicken. Fairly consistent, the food and the "service ". Not horrible, not great.

Fantastic customer service, Very clean inside. Food was fresh and flavorful. I enjoyed my meal and my family did too.

Ordered from this place on Ubereats yesterday January 22, 2022 at around 7:20pm and I never been so disappointed. First off it was my first time ordering Jamaican so I figured I try this place since I saw ads on YouTube. I ordered the jerk chicken meal and what I got was food that looked like a day or 2 old, the rice and beans and the jerk chicken was as dry as the Sahara desert. It was supposed to come with vegetables and plantains and I was missing both of those things in my plate. Will never order at this place again and will try other local Jamaican restaurants, should’ve known better than to trust chain restaurants.

Very lovely and friendly staff. Their lunch specials is very affordable. I will return and definitely recommend

The food was ok but they use to give bigger plates. I would get a large and it would literally feed both me and my wife. I bought a large oxtails now and I finished it in 1 sitting and they charged $15 for the plate. That's crazy. Nobody working there was happy. They didn't even want to try to have good customer service skills. One girl was complaining loudly about not having a break while making our food. They all looked aggravated. It wasn't a good experience. Sorry. Pay your staff more money so they can look happy to be there.

If I could give 0zero stars I would. The service and staff was horrible. Nothing was organized, my food was not available. The cashier was very rude. If she was clocked out and came outside she would have definitely got the business. All I know is my food order better be refunded. I'm also contacting Corporate to let them know. Now that I'm reading the reviews, Omg that cashier girl should be fired!! She is making them loose $$. Also she needs to work on her personal hygiene and the way she carries herself. She was all sloppy and hair was nappy. How u work in food service looking like that?

We've driven by (and ridden bikes by and ridden buses by and taken trains nearby) for years and finally went in to get some leisurely lunch on a Saturday. The staff were very friendly and no one could accuse them of rushing. There were many great options but the patties proved irresistible and we were right; highly recommending spicy beef and chicken. Coming back for Brown Stew Chicken soon or maybe any of these soups of the day (see photo)

No way in the WORLD would you ever catch me at this place. Not even for ice water in 100-degree weather. No siree. I bought a jerk chicken and stew chicken dinner. They gave me chicken JERKY. The dryest chicken EVER. The jerk chicken wasn't spicy at all. Must've run out of peppers. The rice was dryer than 20 Popeyes biscuits with sandpaper topping. OMG don't get me started on that old, dry food. Guess I'M the jerk. The stew chicken was just as dry. I'm never gonna EVER go to this place again. The rice is perfect for a lizard cage. It's that dry. Anyways, I got places to go. I'm busy. Don't do it.

I paid 34.00 plus delivery for this. No plantains, no rice and peas. They want you to pay 5.99 extra for rice and peas. There were 5 and 1/2 oxtail. One of which was pure fat. With tip etc I paid over 50 for this. You have been informed.

There food is horrible and the service is even worse. I have been there 3 times and every time I go in there I'm greeted with a disgusting look and attitude. How dare I come in and ask too pay for the food your selling!!! If the food was good i would say whatever you got a stinking attitude but the food bomb. But no the food sucks and your attitude sucks so goodbye you've been warned.

I waited in this establishment for about 15-20 minutes while the worker was gone and the other was sitting in her chair "claiming she was sick" still working with food. I was never help and I was unable to even buy anything here. How tragic. Y'all probably gonna go out of business like that but I'm just a customer

Awesome, fast service and tasty food! Try the spicy sweet chicken! Ive drove passed this place many many times and decided to check it out after my friend told me how GOOD their food was. The area was clean and kept tidy, and they were following the Covid 19 guidelines. Again, great service and the manager was very helpful!

It's really hard not to go to golden Krystal in morning .the customer service is amazing. I always this one lady I really didn't know that she had such an amazing personality I'm assuming she's the manager. I don't know how she did it but I purchase so much food that I didn't need.

Yum nice place good options and patties. Love the Beyond Meat option and Oxtail. Quick meal before the bus and enough for seconds

Went to this establishment at 12:15 pm today with someone who ordered a dinner, with the dinner you have the option of two choices of rice a meat a vegetable or salad. They did not have any vegetables or salads and they refused to offer a substitute, example some greens left over from breakfast. The person I was with asked to speak to a manager who came out and essentially stated the vegetable area of the take out container would remain empty, she did eventually add extra rice after some discussion. I didn't agree with what was done because it appears as though the Resturant is cheating the customers. Afterwards the manager returned to the kitchen and everyone in the Resturant could hear her loudly talking about the customer and what happened out front. This is the first time I have been to the restaurant for 2019 and the service is much worse than when it first opened and there seems to be all new people. Don't use the bathroom, it is filthy.

Worst place to eat at ..poor service ..and rude servers..they bring out new new oxtail and couldn't give us the new one..giving us the scrapping of the old oxtail..poor service

The worst. I tried this place only because someone told me the oxtail were really good. Paid 20 dollars for a large?? Really??? A small was a 1.50 less. Im not sure were the price points come from but none the less i was served a ton of rice with some of the smallest ox-tails i have ever seen. You know the crumbs at the bottom of a chip bag? Yeah its like they sprinkled oxtails crumbs on my plate. Disgusting. Every bite was a tiny bone with a morsel of meat on it.Haven't had oxtails in months and this killed my craving.I tried it. I did not like it. I wont be going back. A waste of money.

First time in this place. I like to try different food so I decided to give it a try so close to my home . The staff is very rude and totally unprofessional. You have to be black to go in here because otherwise they will make you feel very uncomfortable. The only nice person was the young women at the register. The food was cold and definitely old. I couldn't even eat it . Definitely won't recommend this place. Customer service is the key of selling. You might as well get McDonald's instead of this and don't waste your money and time.

Besides the staff making me uncomfortable with the Asian comments/jokes every time I come, the food is so good I still come back at least once a month. The ox tail, curried goat and beans is my favorite. They give you huge portions as well. I live by another Jamaican food spot in Ashmont but I go to Mattapan just for their food!

When golden Kristen first opened food used to very good and get your money worth. But now good is not as good anymore, and it looks like you are better off getting a smart instead of large. Yesterday I got a large curry goat, and a good 80% of it were Bones, and the rices were really bland, no taste, and not enough salt. I couldn't help but to think what's a waste of money. I was disappointed, unhappy and unsatisfied. I don't think I'll go back and I wouldn't recommend Golden Krust.

1/20/19 I went to that place, a lady was very disrespectful. I think they need to teach them how to treat customers.

i paid over $100 for the young lady in the front attempt to antagonize me mind you i had lost my voice the day prior due to a illness she made it a point to embarrass me in front of male customers she was flirting with prior she was beyond rude missed some of my order items and was slamming the ladles and serving spoons when asked or reminded of an item now when my husband of dark complex went in it was a different story different tone and character I have been going there for a WHILE its sucks that because that one lack of professionalism that could have been fixed in "im sorry mam can you repeat ya self" turned into a bad review and an upset custome/s not cool

Everything was delicious! Highly recommend it, either as a quick sit down meal or takeaway for a tasty meal at home. Don't you dare leave this place without getting a few patties.

THE SERVICE HERE SUCKS!! BIG TIME! The vast majority of the staff here are rude & dismissive to customers. As a fellow Jamaican, I've tried & tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt, but everytime it just gets worse. When I come in to buy food I don't need to hear about which employee is upset with some other one. I also don't need ppl yelling & talking over the food that they are serving me. I've also noticed just how small the portions have become but the prices are so high. Everytime I've ordered the curry shrimp, these ppl fill my plate with rice & give me 6-8 shrimp & charge me $16 for that nonsense. I've told one of the servers that I'd like some new vegetables from the back since she'd have to go back there anyway since the container was almost empty. This lady kissed her teeth & scraped the container with the scraps of the old remainder of vegetables & gave it to me anyways then took the container to the back to get more vegetables. I think this lady's name is Annmarie (I may be getting the name wrong, but this person is not a manager because they were wearing a blue shirt). I've also seen & heard this same server having a heated argument with a customer (WHILE SPEAKING OVER THE FOOD THEY ARE SERVING EVERYONE) & telling them that they should go online & write a review like the other ppl do because she doesn't care about what they have to say & it doesn't matter to her. Well miss I am writing the review for that customer & all the other customers you've been nast to. I hope you read this. :) I've walked in where a manager (red shirt) was in the front having a conversation with the other servers. I think her name is nikki or kerri, I'm not sure (these ppl need to start wearing name tags that are easier to see & ensure they wear the correct ones). I walked up to the counter to order, these ppl saw me, yet continued to have their conversation & completely ignored me. It took the manager about 2 minutes before she even acknowledged my presence & asked me what I wanted with an attitude as if I was bothering her. This manager looks as though she bleaches her face, she's around 5'6 and 150 pounds with curly hair. The only average service I've ever gotten from anyone at this place were from the men that work there. I can't say good because I've never experienced completely good service here ever. When it isn't one thing, it's another. The cashier is slow as heck. Once you get your food it's another 15-20 minutes of waiting no matter what time of day it is. These ppl have no hustle. It's like they all do not want to be there & hate their jobs, but that isn't my fault. They should just quit if they hate it so much & stop taking their misery out on customers. I've given up on this place & I won't ever be back. I'll stick to Flames & Only One, & everyone should too if these ppl don't get their act together. I hope the one opening in Roxbury has NEW servers with smiling faces & attitudes that say they want to be there, or else this place will absolutely fail & go under. There are only 2 consistently good ppl here as far as I have seen. They are 2 managers. One is a tiny little thing. She is thin, short, with natural hair & has a soft voice, she really knows how to hustle & is very sweet. The other I believe is actually an assistant manager. She is around 5'3, heavy set, dark skinned, her hair is permed, short & always pulled back in a ponytail. She is so pleasant & always has a smile on her face. She just became a manager a few months ago & she deserves it. Golden Krust has lost me as a customer forever. I'll take my hard earned money to a place where I'm actually treated like a human being & not given an attitude as if I'm begging anyone. Tell your employees to leave their bad attitudes at home, instead of bringing it to their place of business & start handing out punishments, then maybe this place will get somewhere.

Yo I love my yardies but my first time here, seriously disappointed. I order the curry goat and it was 75% BONE, no wonder it was so cheap. I gladly would have paid more to have some meat to chew on. The rest of it is just taste preference. I feel like depending on what part of the island you're from you're going to season the food differently. I prefer other Jamaican restaurants in that regard. Also I didn't want any rice because I'm on a low-carb diet and they told me it was going to be more money. Why would I be charged more for less food? And being that the goat was mostly bone they would've served me a plate of bone - for more money. seriously?! LMFAO - They aren't the first restaurant to up charge for less food. I can't win.

The ox tale bomb the curry not all I thought mad spicy can't even taste the curry the people good service one lady that looks like a chef that doesn't belong in the front running her mouth while the young lady was serving a customer now that's wrong wait until she finish serving the costumer then address her that's totally bad for black owed businesses I had no problem with the young lady serving me she was doing her job.

Great eating experience.. from walking in the door and being greeted by employees. The staff was surprisingly friendly. It did take a while for me to get my order, but my food was still warm with great taste. I will be coming back soon!

This spot definitely rivals Flames. Was visiting family and ran into this gem when I was looking for lunch in the square. Ordered the curry goat and these folks didn't let me down. The only disrespect they showed me was towards my gut lol. The meat wasn't too boney and they hooked me up with extra sauce. I'm definitely coming back the next time I come through.

The food here is nice t bad kinda pricey but it is what it is. Being centrally located definitely helps out! I do rice & beans with mixed veggies and jerk wings or oxtail! If it's morning I'll go with some Caribbean porridge(cornmeal,oatmeal with banana and peanut blended).

My first time ordering went great. The rice and peas was cooked to perfection and oxtail-perfect! Then things went downhill. My next order was chicken soup. It was so awful that I had to throw most of it away. I returned again and order the same oxtail,et. al. This time the rice seem burnt or lack of water. I don't know what went wrong. Did a change of cook happened? I am now nervous to try again.

Omg. Finally a true authentic Jamaican spot in Boston. I read the other review and my experience was the opposite. The rice and peas was like grandma's and the customer service was on point. I wanted to also sample the beef patties so took it to go and ate it later in the day. Yum yum good. It was seasoned to perfection. I'm a picky eater and this location surpassed by delicate taste buds.

Good amount of food for the price. The service cans sometimes be slow because of long lines and long hours. Good is consistent across the board though!

Sorry you lost your founder. However he should be rolling over in his grave at this Franchise!! I ordered two plates. Small Oxtails, and small Curry chicken both with plantains. Where do I start!! The rice tasted like it was 3 days old in the Ox Tail plate, in the curry plate the rice was straight mushy!! On to the meat!! The oxtails tasted like they had to much browning season and they were hard!!! So wish I had emojis!!! Then the chicken tasted like they got lazy and half curried it!! On to the price!!! $22.00 gtfoh, I can go to the Spanish Kitchens and get a whole feast for that price; and guess what food bomb!! Get your Sh&# together, and yes I know how good Jamaican food should taste like!!! Don't let me get on Flames!!!

I have come here before and it was great however before heading there for some Sunday dinner I read all the negative reviews and still ignored them and gave it a shot....first of all walked to the counter...absolutely no customer service at all....I had to tell the woman..ahh hello I'm here to order.....she rudely goes what do you want.....so I ordered my meals large jerk chickenand large ox tail.... they used to give great portions this woman acted like since they were near closing time , she wanted to save some to take home....furthermore my meals both are supposed to come with cabbage....I was informed they ran out of cabbage I said ok well is there a substitute....she offered me something I've never even heard of,so I asked for one side of Mac and cheese assuming that since I was owed 2 sides of cabbage that should be worth 1 side of Mac and cheese....NOPE....the why are you charging me for cabbage and don't have any....this place had really gon down hill.....oh well back to ONLY ONE JAMAICAN RESTAURANT

When it first opened up it was good and the price was right once the price went up things were decent because the food is still good . Within the past month or so I realized the food taste different . There is a lot less flavor now and it is not good . The patties used to be nasty and the food was good now I think I realize the patties are different but they are better however the food took a turn for the worst and it has no flavor .

I tried this place out based on the recommendation of a friend who is a like a sister to me. A woman I consider a reputable source. So when my sister friend oohed and ahhed about the food at Golden Krust, going on how how well seasoned it was with its tasty patties and jerk chicken, I knew I had to try it. I went there on Tuesday during lunchtime where a crowd of lunch patrons gathered in the restaurant. I did like that there was ample room for dining in if that was your preference. On to the food! I ordered a variety of patties (cheesy beef, spicy beef, chicken) with coco bread along with sides of jerk chicken, fry chicken and mixed vegetables. The patties and coco bread were not what I was accustomed to. I grew up on Lenny's Bakery (Blue Hill Avenue) fresh baked smooth savory patties sandwiched in between a generous piece of buttery coco bread. Lenny's could last for two meals. Golden Krust gave me a smallish crispy patty that reminded of the ones you buy in the frozen food section of your local supermarket. The filing minimal and tasteless. The accompanying piece of coco bread was English muffin sized, uncut lacking the bakery freshness of Lenny's. GK's fry chicken was tasty but a tad salty. The jerk chicken was dry with a spicy kick. It could be a hit or miss depending upon the diner's palate. The star was the mixed vegetables. A small $3 order generously filled a container with cabbage onions peas and carrots. GK's menu takes its working class clientele's wallets into consideration yet it may insult their taste buds. Especially those patrons who cook this cuisine in their homes. Not sure if I'll be thanking my sister friend for this one!

They still suck. From what my friends son told me one of the employees quit and started working at burger king in the same area because "they weren't treating her right" lol that one review trying to praise this place so much must be from someone who just doesn't know good food or the owner. Flames is more GOLDEN than golden krust lets be honest! And to go from serving real Caribbean food... TO BURGER KING!!! Thats how i know its bad. If i worked there i would've at least stayed for the food but clearly its not worth it! Lol do better golden krust. Its a big ass disappointment!

The oxtails were amazing. Plantain to die for! I literally had enough food for me to eat on for 3 days.

I went yesterday for my birthday for the first time. The food is very very clean and I enjoy it soooo much I went there after church
