Golden Krust Caribbean Restaurant

Went ahead and got me two beef patties. One of them mild and one of them spicy. The mild one is the one that I would go with. It still has that kick that you would like. The spicy one is great as well. But that's for experts I believe. If you're going to try it out for the first time go ahead and get you a mild and then work your way to a spicy. Although they were not fresh when she pulled them out. Still had that nice flakiness crispiness and they were filled with the beef. That's what I loved about it. Oxtails, fish, jerk chicken, Rice and beans, All were at the scene. I will be coming back. Would like to know when would be the best time to come back when I can try everything. As everything was cafeteria style. Wanted as fresh as possible so I could give the best review. I will be coming back. To try to dumplings, The jerk chicken and rice and everything else.

Great food and polite service. The portions were very large. I had the small jerk chicken. The food was sweet & spicy.

Food was mid at best. I love Jamaican food and everything about it. Portion size was small. Oxtail meal for $30 you would’ve thought I would’ve gotten a nice amount of oxtails for that price. But instead I got a couple big pieces and a bunch of smaller pieces. Bigger pieces were kinda tough. Jerk chicken was sweet and no kick to it. Female employee seem to have had an attitude and I didn’t feel welcomed at all. Wanted to eat there but decided to leave. Coco bread was stale. Spend a total of $55 and I wasn’t pleased. So safe to say I’ll head to the other Golden Crust if I’m in the mood or find an alternative Jamaican spot.

Today my family and I met Linda and Fatima. These ladies were very patient and friendly . We came to buy beef Patties only and after talking with these ladies . We end up buying curry goat, curry chicken, jerk wings , spice bun and drinks plus the patties. I wanted to say our experience with Fatima and Linda was awesome and that’s why I gave them all 5 stars ⭐️. Very professional and great customer service. Kudos ladies! Thank you for your great service and keep smiling 😊

I got the lunch special for $8.65 and a beef patty $3.50! It was so good. Golden Krust did not disappoint. Also, I have to add that these were the nicest Golden Krust employees I've seen yet, and y'all knowww that's rare at about every other location and carribbean restaurant Inna di hol a di world!

Exactly what we needed when we needed it. The server offered us fresh plantains than the ones that were out and it really made our day.

The ladies inside were sweet and helpful. I told them it was my first time and they recommended the jerk chicken (not wings). Excellent flavors and a good value since this plate was less than $16. Make sure you ask for the jerk sauce with your order, it’s smoky and flavorful. I’ll be coming back for sure.

As an adventurous person, I love trying out new things, places and food. So on a summer Sunday afternoon like this, hubby and I set out to try this restaurant and I must say, it’s been a very different food journey for me. My order was some white rice, jerk chicken, salad and some fried chicken. Hubby went for curry and spicy goat meat. The main review was cause the waitress named Annie was real patient with my indecisive food choice and allowed us taste in small portions before making this choice. 5 star for customer service. 4 star for overall food because it’s my first time. 3 star for the steamed salad (I’m used to the fresh salad). Overall, great afternoon ❤️

AMAZING ... The food is amazing and I'm from NY where we have the best oxtail . This is the only place in Houston that has good,tasty Oxtail . I highly recommend you go to this Golden Krust !!!!

The ladies behind the counter were attentive and friendly. Went there for lunch on a Thursday afternoon. Place was empty and I was a bit surprised. As soon as you open the door, the wonderful aromas tickle your senses, the music played at a sensible level transports you to the islands. Plenty of choices from the cafeteria like setting of the food. Portions are generous and the food is wickedly tasty! Dining in may have been busy but the restaurant had a constant flow of take out orders. We settled on oxtails veggies, beans and rice. All perfectly seasoned. Only con? Found it a little pricey, for there are other options in the area not so highly priced. Will I return? Only if the other spots disappoint. If you're in its very near proximity and are craving Jamaican go for it.

Food good. Pretty pricey for a fast food though. But other than the rice the rest of the food was pretty good. Got the ox tail box of rice. The meat was good. Rice ok. Vegetables still pretty hard and I would prefer cooked a bit more. Plantains were perfect though

First time trying Jamaican food and it does not disappoint. I didn't know what protein to choose so the nice lady behind the counter let me sample the goat and the oxtail. I don't know many places that would let that happen. It was of course delicious. She was very nice and attentive. She stuffed my plate with the brown stewed chicken, rice and peas, and plantains. I demolished my plate and I will definitely be back.

My first time there and I walked in on a fire storm. This is my second time trying Jamaican cooking. I noticed the menu is pretty much the same. Tho the first location in the SW was much better.

It's always an extremely long wait for plant based items. Last time i came in they told me to call in my order before I come pick it up . So today i try to call in my order just for them to tell me they don't accept phone in orders. Today this is the patty they gave me . It's a crumbled mess and every single patty i bought has paper stuck to it . Steer clear of this place . Awful quality . I certainly won't be back and URGE you to look else where

We stopped in on a whim as we were driving by. Service is fantastic. Portions are large! Flavor is out of this world! SO good.

Great authentic food. So far I've have the jerk chicken, curry shrimp, and oxtails. Along with spicy beef and jerk chicken patty. Very fresh and great quality/quantity. The staff is very nice and professional as well. I'd highly advise to anyone looking to try some Jamaican food.

Golden Krust is not far from the house. I dropped in to see what is was about because I like Caribbean food. It was really good. I had the curry chicken with rice, cabbage and plantains. OMG those plantains were so good. This is a cool little bang for your buck. I love getting a lot of food on my plate for under $20. #Winning I'll be back. This is one of my new go-tos.

Horrible service served up with old tasteless food! The person who was there working this past Saturday had an unnecessarily nasty attitude with myself and other customers. She was all frowned up, spoke rough and with so much sarcasm and a condescending tone. This was all for nothing. Customers respectfully asking questions and making simple requests does not constitute the type of slackness she was giving that day. The restaurant was still set up as if we are still in the middle of a pandemic and was overall unappealing. That coupled with the old looking food and her disgusting attitude definitely has deterred me from ever returning to this establishment! Golden Krust, Westheimer location, do better please!!!

Hate to leave a bad Reveiw for a black establishment that I actually like. Just ordered a jerk plate like I do often and I ask for extra sauce I don't like dry beans and rice or dry jerk chicken. They lady ask if I want sauce on my beans and rice and I answer yes please put a lot but for some reason she barely put any sauce. Also no sauce on my chicken either. I go back inside after eating in my car for a few mins and ask for jerk sauce, the lady looks at me as if I'm doing something wrong . She grab a very small container and fill it up half way lol. I ask can I get two of those and she says no. I then reply I'll pay for extra sauce and she then replies I'll just fill the small container to the top. I was very confused, all I want if my sauce so I can eat my food that cost 22$. Now I'm stuff eating this dry jerk chicken which is still good food but this ain't how I like it. Why I can't eat my food the way I want too, I'm a paying customer. This is very bad business.

As a Jamaican, If I could give zero starts I would. Literally everything I ordered was just "blah". The jerk chicken had no jerk sauce or flavor, it was dry along with the spicy beef patties that had no flavor and was dry as well. The "festivals" were hard as a rock and so greasy it made me sick. Even the juice had a weird taste. The "rum cake" had no rum and I couldn't even swallow the first bite to how bad it was. The only thing I got that taste well was the bottled drinks that weren't made by them. I didn't even get everything I ordered. The customer service is so bad, I don't know how people are okay with having such a disgusting attitude and poor service while being in the service industry. If you don't want to be there, find something else. One try was enough, I'll never be back to this disappointment.

I was craving some beef patties and decided to try this spot. I was excited to see the variety of patties they had on the menu. Unfortunately I was not happy with that Beef Patty. It was way more crust than anything. It may be too much of a chain for what I was looking for.

This picture from a iPhone make this plate look good... It lacked in any type of favor... this whole plate tasted as if this food been on the steam table all day. The drink was the best part! I went around lunch and it wasn't really any traffic.

Pretty great flavors, The peas & rice with the chicken is really good. i dont like the raw cabbage and the plantains could have been cooked longer, relatively raw on the inside. Otherwise decent portion for the price

Absolutely disgraceful. Worst Jamaican food I've ever had. And it also smelled like an outhouse. Golden Krust in Orlando tastes way better.

I will start by saying that I have been a big fan of Golden crust since I lived in New York. Now that I live in Dallas I will always stop if I see one.... I walked up and saw that they are now offering a plant-based Jamaican patty option. Trust me I was quite curious. Specially because I don't eat meat anymore. When I went inside there was a line, and the staff was busy so not much smiling and greeting. Which is fine. People are busy working I get it. I order the curry vegetable , fried plantains and plant-based patties and mild beef patties. I didn't want them out the flavor but they did not have the spicy beef available so I settle for my beef. They also have several things that they were out of but I can't remember what. With that said the plant-based Jamaican patty was disgusting. It's made out of beyond meat which I've had before but it does not work in the Jamaican patty!!! Look-somethings just aren't meant to be vegan!! lol And this is one of them. I could not get myself to take a bite because I couldn't bypass the smell of the beyond meat. I attempted to take a bite out of the mild beef one but it was dry and hard just like the vegan patty and the flavor just wasn't right. Now- the Fried Plaintains and the curry vegetable was extremely delicious. The 2 stars is for the inedible patties. I will not recommend them to anyone from this location.

Cabbage not cooked. Old Dry plantains! Rice was warm.. Chicken Cold. Terrible Place!! Advised employees and nobody said a word. They know they serving yesterdays food!!

$20 for a large jerkchicken plate that was definitely 2 days old. Just say it's bad and offer something else. Skin was burnt crunchy and my guess is they didn't think a review was coming. I'm young so I guess they thought I would take a different approach. Highly recommend not going if this is the product given.

First off customer service HORRIBLE... My husband and I came in on July 19th around 8:50. I will attach a receipt don't worry. There were two women working behind the counter, gossiping with some customer about nothing as we walked in. The customer was Hanging all over the counter by the register with her son jumping all over the dining room. This is a restaurant not an amusement Park. Have some home training. I'm assuming that's why we did not get a welcoming greeting. One woman insisted on helping us as she went straight to serving food. WITHOUT WASHING HER HANDS 1st RED FLAG..... the entire time I was asking question she had an attitude....it's called CUSTOMER SERVICE. Not even a smile...l asked her if we could have both rice's half and half she had an attitude about that. I wanted to purchase one of your fresh juices that were available on display however; I didn't want to upset her anymore so I didn't even ask. 2ND RED FLAG. Everything look like it had been sitting on the line since 12:00 noon and l know because all of the pans on the line had CRUST AROUND THE CORNERS You could at least have them flip your pan on the line to make everything APPEAR TO LOOK fresh. Then had the nerve to have COLD CABBAGE on the HOT SERVING LINE 'made in China' (THIS IS A HEALTH CODE VIOLATION) NEXT TO dried up BURNT PLANTAINS and I KNOW because I used to work at Pollo Tropical POLLO TROPOCAL WHEN IT WAS ON WESTHEIMER & HILLCROFT / VOSS. Bring back Pollo Tropical please.... so people know what plantains are SUPPOSED to taste like. 3RD RED FLAG it amazes me how you can charge people the prices that y'all do and CAN EVEN AFFORD suitable to-go containers. EVERYONE KNOWS THIS FOOD IS SUPPOSE TO BE DELICIOUS KEY WORDS SUPPOSE TO BE.... Oh and the next time you go get your inventory from RESTAURANT DEPOT grab you some plastic to-go containers. There not that expensive. I HAVE A BOX AT HOME IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD IT. Get the curry chicken with the dirty rice and the best plantains. The tropical drinks are super yummy.

I just ordered the jerk chicken lunch and a beef patty from this restaurant and I must say I tossed the entire meal in the trash. The peas & rice was sooooooooo dry and everything lacked flavor. I mean ZERO seasoning. My coworker said it smelled like wet dog and although his rude comment upset me, I didn't tell him it tasted like wet dog since I have never been in a situation where I needed to taste one, but, I digress... My meal was not tasty. I will order something again, but not this.

Decently priced. The portion for the oxtail was decent, would recommend paying the $2 more for the larger plate. The oxtail was tender and tasted well. The sauce was a little sweet. I didn't have a problem with it but I didn't like the taste of it mixed with the rice. Overall, not too bad of a meal. Not sure if I'll return but wasn't a bad experience.

I should of read the reviews first houston golden krust on kirby next to nrg terrible. 3 person in the hold store one in the back one young lady fixing and the other one cleaning with a long line in the place . taking money and preparing with gloves on and not even changing them. Attitude when I ask her to change them .five people in line one.15mins before I can get to my order.cheesy beef paty burnt, 2 whole pc of chicken in the curry chicken brown stew taste like sugar on rice chicken soup without chicken. Customer service was definitely not thought at this franchise location. O YAH THE one girl taking orders cashing orders was also doing delivery service pick up and fixing orders for them as well.while the other girl cleaning and putting burnt patties in the oven. My last $40 I would ever spend in that place.looks like I'll deal with the long lines at cool runnings

Beef PattiesDumplingsJerk ChickenPeas & Rice This was the worst experience ever with a restaurant ordered on doordash ,first time trying this restaurant and will be the last .ordered Large jerk chicken small jerk chicken beef patties dumplings and drink ... when food arrive sealed bag from restaurant 1 small jerk chicken an1 beef patty only spend 50 to get two items contacted doordash no help so contacted store as well 3 hours trying to just get the food I paid for had ti drive to location none of staff could help so owner showed up mind you I ordered at 530 pm and it's now 845pm get to location employee tell me to wait for owner instead of looking at my receipt and giving me the food I paid for that they didnt make sure was in the bag .so I wait for owner she say well I'm not in the business of giving away stuff ,I said it's not giving away what I paid for she then proceeded to say well I can only give you 1 large jerk chicken but we dont have what you ordered get a refund from doordash .. so her employees say we have the beef patties owner say no thise are for my daughter mind you I still have no refund I said well we will take those instead she proceeds to say no . So needless to say she dont care about customer service and making things right ... while she proceeded to give away food to family while we are there trying to get just what we paid for . Rude ,unprofessional food was cold didint get beans and rice as asked ,food was the worst not good at all I will stick to cool runnings there food is better than this place on Westheimer Stay away bad business

Food looked like it has been sitting all day. Couldn't tell what meat it was because gravy was so black. Patties were ok.

This food was TERRIBLE. I got the Stewed Chicken and 1 Beef Patty. 1st of all the Stewed Chicken was sweet (I have never had sweet Stewed Chicken before and it was not good) and the chicken was dry. How is the world can stewed chicken be dry and have a tough exterior? I have made baked chicken more tender than this. The cabbage had a weird taste and the beef patty was hard to bite into and chew. It must have been sitting out since this morning or something because I thought I was going to break a tooth trying to bite into it. I ultimately threw the entire container in the trash and wasted $25 since I ordered from Uber Eats. I think I will stick with the Caribbean food places by my house. PLEASE do better. UGH! I am only giving 1 STAR because I can't give it 0 STARS.

Would not recommend and wouldn't eat at this chain again. I first tried years ago (a different location) when I first moved to Houston but recently tried to give them a second chance and realized I should have just gone with my first instinct. I'm from Miami and thus, was raised eating various kinds of Caribbean food (Jamaican, Bahamian, Guyanese, Trinidadian, etc)...Golden Crust tastes nothing like any of these. The exterior of the patties seems to be the only thing right about them...the meat texture is just way too mashed and grind down...it's just a texture that you can't even convince yourself to eat beyond a few bites (both me and my fiancé felt this way about two different kind of patties). The curry chicken though edible, wasn't anywhere near great either. Guess I'll keep looking for a Caribbean go-to.

They were kind, open, willing and earnest about reviewing the missteps noted in the initial review. Accordingly, my family and I tried again, and Golden Krust met, and exceeded our initial experience. That is good business etiquette and practice, to reach out and offer kind discourse, remedy, and to hear out customer concerns. Hopefully, my review was not upsetting, but a helpful and useful consideration; based on today's experience, I believe that it was, and I recommend and commend Golden Krust. I've attached photos of today's dinners. My parents were pleased and appreciated the standard of customer care offered by Golden Krust. ********Initial Review Ordered this evening, June 24 2020 through Favor. Placed order for elder parents and myself. Favor messaged that the restaurant did not have anymore jerk chicken wings, as ordered. Restaurant did not have several of the desserts that were listed on their Favor Menu either, when I asked whether the wings could be substituted by a similarly priced dessert. Before Favor left, restaurant discovers they forgot a piece of the order, so they created a second credit charge slip, to add the one item they missed. Food is delivered. Two dinners: one chicken and the other goat. Both dinners come with rice and peas, and cabbage. However, my father was cut by one of the goat on bones- they were sharp and small, about one inch in length. So I looked through the food and saw that the gravy on both dinners, was majority bones - shards, sharp pieces. Checked mine, thechicken, and there were a few shards of chicken, three sharp broken drumstick bones, and grizzle. On both dinners, I measured out one table spoon of cabbage, and about four cups of rice, no peas. Essentially the dinners were bone gravy, white rice, no peas, and a spoon of cabbage. I'm sorry I do not have a photo, as I discarded the items after checking it over, & did not intend, initially, on writing. Yet hopefully, management will reexamine their operation's quality control and systems for this location. Trying to support the movement and sometimes the best support is an honest review of experience. All the best.

Whoever cooked the food tonight did great with the oxtails and cabbage. I've had this place before and the flavor was good but the oxtails were tough. Today, very tender. It would be nice if they had drinks other than water they were not overloaded with white sugar. I only eat oxtails once or twice a year so I'll consider coming back if I don't completely cut out meat forever.

Being from the Caribbean and from Queens, NY I crave good West Indian food and it's so hard finding it here in Houston. I decided to try out Golden Krust one night and I was not disappointed. I got the stew chicken with roti and the chicken patty with a kola champagne. Everything was sooooo delicious. Not as spicy as I would like it, it far from bland. The roti tasted just like my mom's roti. The chicken patty was hot and actually quite spicy. The stew chicken was also delicious. The restaurant itself was super clean and the staff was very friendly and efficient. Before I could take out my cash, the roti was ready and she added whatever pieces I wanted from the stew. The woman at the front was very sweet and very fast. Overall, will be a frequent customer.

I have had a taste of Jamaican food lately and I heard of this spot so I had to check it out. I know that it's a chain, but wanted to see what they offered! They have a pretty expansive menu, which includes oxtails, curry chicken, and jerk chicken. I elected to get the small plate of the Jerk Chicken. The plate also comes with rice/peas, cabbage, and plantains. I also added a spicy beef patty and a piece of the festival (bread). I was very happy with my food! It tasted pretty good to me! The chicken was cooked perfectly and had the right amount of spice! The rice/peas were good. The plantains were GREAT - just the right amount of sweetness. Now the festival was a bit dry, but this can be explained by it sitting out for so long I'm sure. I'm willing to try it again...earlier in the day. The patty was AH-MAZING! Omg. So much flavor and it is actually spicy! Soo good! I will definitely be returning and will sample something else. Highly recommend!

--- FOOD POISONING--- Shit food. I frequented golden Krust in New York and Maryland so I am familiar is the price point and the taste. This golden Krust location doesn't come close. The lunch specials are hardly specials- I was served one singular plantain , chicken back ( bone ) , chicken leg , rice , cabbage and smaller than your average small sized drink for $8. The chicken was suppose to be jerk chicken but instead was bbq chicken. The chicken was undercooked. Bad experience..

Super unprofessional... this is the 2nd time I've tried ordering and they cancelled my order for no reason. Twice in a row. When you want to eat something and they cancel your order for no reason that BS

This place truly annoys me. What island person really enjoys eating here? It's like the McDonalds/Taco bell of Caribbean food!!! Just a healthy type of cuisine. How do you find a way to water it down?!?! I'm sure If you grew up in the mainland you'd enjoy this place. Or if you never had authentic Caribbean food Just blah

The food is overpriced, they have terrible customer service I called to see why my order was canceled twice in a row and the employee actually argued with me for almost 5 minutes.. today after six months I tried to order again my order was canceled imagine when you want to eat some thing and you're waiting for it and then you just get a notification saying your order is canceled but it's not the first time is the third time! I will not order from here again there's so many other places you can get Jamaican food from. Their business won't be around for much longer... I'll give it two years

Just finished lunch at this location. Great experience and food! Luckily, I came before the lunch time rush, so I didn't have to wait in line. Had the fried chicken, which was seasoned VERY WELL, with rice and peas, both topped with oxtail gravy. (FYI, oxtail gravy on top of anything tastes AMAZING!) I also had a side of the traditional veg mix, which had lots of bell peppers, and gave the cabbage a very good taste. The rice and peas were moist, unlike quite a few places in Houston. (As much as I like Island Sizzler, I have never had moist rice and peas there; I usually have to mix it with gravy to wet it up.) They had some ackee left over from breakfast, so I got some of that too! All in all, it was a good experience,and I plan to return. TIP: Ask for a sample! Although I knew what I wanted, I saw a couple of folks come in and get samples to help them decide what they wanted to order. I love places that give samples. Nothing like ordering something and being disappointed.

This was the worst food I EVER had. This was a door dash order. 1st of all it took forever to get here, so I am starving (i will blame door dash for that). I knew right away that I wasn't going to like it. It had a funny smell from jump. The coco bread tasted like it had been sitting there a day or 2. The beef patties were DEFINITELY old. I could not even bite into it, like it was hard hard. And the vegetables were not packed properly and the juice was all over the bottom of the bag and that was where the funny smell was coming from. The vegetables were gray.. I wasn't touching that. The wasted juice did not even soften up the beef paty. I just threw it all away. And this is what i get for not coming to yelp 1st to read the reviews. I really try not leave bad reviews but the food was not edible at all.I am starving and these poor people at my job have to deal with a HANGRY person.

I normally don't leaves reviews because everyone has an off day. But that chicken was the worst chicken I've ever tasted in my entire life. I ate some white peoples chicken for an event one day and they even beat out the chicken here at this place. Y'all need to do something for real this a backstep for the community. Real talk

I didn't eat in the physical restaurant, but I tried their food at the food truck festival and that veggie patty was BOMB. I'm not sure which veggies were in it, but if I wasn't so full already I could have eaten like 10 of those things!

Riding through Westheimer heading to .. Well let's start the review. On my way back, I noticed Golden Krust. Having been to Ny, Golden Krust is well known among the Jamaican/ Africa community. However upon arriving at this location I was the only customer which should have been a red flag but decided maybe it was a slow afternoon. I decide to get the chicken and beef patties which I would not recommend. The flavor was blend, the beef didn't even taste like beef it had a weird flavor . Floor : clean Food: Hmm - okay Employees: Nice, answered my questions.

This was my first and last time ordering from Golden Krust. I ordered several cheeze beef patties, jerk chicken wings and a jerk chicken combo plate. I could not identify the ingredients inside of the patty. I called the store and she told me that they come in fully cooked and frozen, the are heated up and served. She believed that it was meat or meat and cheese only but could not confirm. The chicken wings and chicken combo was dry. I really wanted to try this place and like it! Take a close look at that picture, does that look like ground beef and cheese?

Great Caribbean food and even better service. I always get the oxtails and get the gravy on my Mac and Cheese and rice. The curry chicken is good also. I would recommend you wash it down with the Pineapple-ginger beverage.

I ordered the large oxtail plate. The large section was full of rice and peas, one shall section was half full of the cabbage and the other small section had about 5 tiny oxtails and bones. To little food (oxtails) for the price. I will not be ordering from here again.. even though the food was tasty. Do better please.. give people the money's worth!!!
