Save your money and don't eat at this place. I spent $48 on take out and I could get better food at Panda Express. The rice is dry, the orange chicken has no chicken just lumps of batter and they got my order wrong.

Google
We were on our way to hop woo when we walked by the amazing patio here with lots of shaded seats. Very glad we stopped! Counter ordering with plastic 3D models of the food that's more common in Japanese restaurants here. We were pleasantly surprised to have our food delivered to us on ceramic plates with full silverware outside, unlike some of the nearby restaurants. Honey walnut shrimp was amazing! Crisp, perfectly cooked and saucy with huge chunks of walnut. The beef loklak was tender. Lunch specials are reasonably priced. Service was... Well, it's classic Chinatown. Efficient! Paid parking lot right next outdoor seating.

Ordered online... should've gone with my gut regarding the below average Google reviews. Wonton soup had 0% flavour. Think large chunks of inedible, barely cooked vegetables and a lacklustre both. The beef wraps I ordered tasted funky... I took one bite and am tempted to throw the rest away. Let's just say I'm questioning the freshness of them. Would honestly never order again.

Google
Food was delivered so I can't accurately rate the atmosphere or service other than how consistent the food was. So many different things we ordered. The flavors were different from the food I regularly eat at other places but some of the flavors were more traditional. Everything tasted good. We were at home so the picture is a plate of food I gathered from all the delivery boxes, it was so much food it lasted a family of four for three days. Loved the sesame beef and taro steamed buns.

Hello everyone. If you are in Chinatown and a looking for a place to eat, I recommend the Golden Lake Eatery. This place is like a hidden jem. The portions are generous, and the price is reasonable. I recommend the walnut chicken, and the tofu soup. This place does take cash and card. Parking is located in the front and in the back of the building. This place is popular, so get here early before the lunch and dinner rush. Thank you for reading my review. Please follow me on Google maps and check out the places I visit.

Google
Great spot for late night eating. Good amount of seating outside and inside. If you go during the day, expect to pay for parking overall, really good menu, good variety of dim sum and noodlesat a reasonable price.

Google
This restaurant used to be really good. Lately the preparation of the food and order accuracy has been really bad. I will say their food is still delicious, but what’s the point of ordering if there is high risk of error? Whoever is packing your food / orders Is doing a bad job, like they don’t care. Most sauces are often spilled now. Other restaurants I order from always secure the food for delivery. What changed? New management? New workers? Their dumplings were the best, but I can see from other reviews that it’s time to find a new restaurant that makes them. Disappointing.

Google
Ordered delivery and almost everything was wrong.. egg foo young was dry no gravy, dumplings were cold and unappealing. Slow delivery doesn’t excuse missing gravy and sauces. Go elsewhere!

Yelp
O-M-G this place was the worst! I don't think I've ever given 1 star before because I take everything into consideration but I could not give more than this. Now this review is strictly about their food. I did not go to the location, only ordered online so I can't comment on the cleanliness or ambiance. I was up late and hungry. Seen this place on Uber eats and it had like 4.3 stars but didn't let me read any reviews. I should've gone on help to do some research before ordering. Big mistake. I spent about $60 on food and another 10$ for tip. I ended throwing away every item I ordered. I felt horrible doing it. The food was absolutely disgusting. Old, hard, weird looking and it tasted as such. I ordered pork fried rice, boneless spare ribs, green beans and I forgot the other. It came fast and the portions were big but how can you eat nasty old food?! And I'm from the hood and have eaten some mediocre stuff but this one takes the cake. I'm nauseous thinking about it. Yall need to do better.

Yelp
The food is good (very sweet) but the packaging is absolute garbage. The food was so hot when it went in the Styrofoam that it melted and split the bottom seeping into the paper bag and it all fell apart in the car on the way. A very apologetic delivery person handed us seeping dripping containers and his own paper towels. Ps. They forgot the rice which they charge for.

Yelp
Rude, racist, and barely decent food. Never coming back. Lots of other places in the area that are much better.

Yelp
Order through UBer eats some Singapore noodles with beef / 2 Thai teas/ custard buns / vegetables pan noddles and bbq pork... so unfortunately after 45 minutes the order gets here and nothing that I order came in. We got some curry chicken which no one likes in my house and something that looks vegetables in black soup and pork buns. The only they got right was Thai teas. So I called the restaurant and they said they couldn't help me because no one speaks English. I needed to call at 9pm. So sad that we ended just walking to Carl's Jr instead

Yelp
I've ordered from Golden Lake a few times now and it's satisfactory. Their portions are huge compared to other places, with me always having tons of leftovers which is nice. I end up freezing extra fried rice every time I've ordered! Their walnut shrimp is the best thing on the menu fo' sho. I do like their sweet and sour pork, as well. Orange chicken flavor leaves a bit to be desired but no major qualms. And this may shock you, but their chocolate cake is surprisingly good! I don't know where it's sourced from but it's solid lol. I'd skip the egg tarts for delivery. They may have been delish in person but did not travel well at all and were soggy, I had to throw them out. Golden Lake is good in a pinch but let's be honest, LA is full of far tastier spots for similar eats. Eek!

Yelp
Avoid This Place - Terrible Service My wife and I were visiting Chinatown on a Sunday afternoon, looking for a place to have lunch. We saw this restaurant open, so we poked our heads in. It was completely empty except for a young woman sitting inside, watching TV. She looked like she worked there, but she had headphones on, so we weren't sure whether to approach her. We stood in the entryway for several minutes, saying "hello" multiple times before she finally turned around and wordlessly gestured toward a table. We sat down, expecting at least some acknowledgment, but she just went back to watching TV. We waited for about five minutes, looking over the menu, but she never came over, never looked at us, and never acknowledged our presence. At that point, we just got up and left. I've never experienced such rude, indifferent service at any restaurant. Based on other reviews, it's clear we're not the only ones who have had a bad experience here. If the owners cared about their customers or their business, they would have addressed these issues by now. Clearly, they don't. Steer clear of this place.

Yelp
The food looks like nothing on their pictures!! And the noodles are diff too. The soup is so bland. Skip it and wait for new kamera restaurant that's nearby

Yelp
Years ago this was just a Cambodian restaurant, but the new owner who are Chinese ruined the restaurant quality of food. Totally downhill the food is horrible now.

Yelp
Don't ever come here. This is not good food. Please do yourself a favor don't ever come here. I don't know how they still open smh.

Yelp
this food hit so hard after going to General Lee's. it's not the best food, but its open late and has quick service. they also have a restroom for customers to use. we ordered the cream cheese wontons (5 stars), fried rice (4 stars), beef noodle soup (3 stars - used chow mein noodles which is kind of unique), chow fun (3 stars), pot stickers (4 stars), and beef rolls (2 stars). one complaint would be the restaurant was SO COLD.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place on Thanksgiving since it was one of the few open spots. Decided to try it out. We got: - Orange Chicken - Walnut Shrimp - Chow Mein The food was okay, but not amazing for Chinese food. The service, however, was great everyone was friendly and nice.

Yelp
first time ordering last time ordering!! The most disgusting food I have ever ordered from a restaurant in my entire life . Over $70 of food in the trash ! I called down there and all I get is oh I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. Nasty disgusting individuals who put this food out . Anyone who scores this higher than one star you're a moron you need to get out more often if you think this is good food . A lover of egg, foo young, and this is by far the worst I have ever tasted in my life .

Yelp
On their advertisement, like in a lot of places pictures look great. Let me give them some credit on the chicken feet and the por dumplings, the rest was not that great, the shrimp had this chemical taste, nasty. I let the attendant know, and invited her to taste it and she refused. She did not suggest a refund or change the item. I didnt realize that they have a C health score by the city, so don't come to this place. Unbelievable that this place is still in business. First and last for me. Please be careful

Yelp
Man, who doesn't like hanging out in Chinatown?, for some good food, culture and merchandise. We had a business meeting here yesterday and stopped at a awesome Cambodian style Chinese restaurant. I got the Chinese Hot oil Dry. This plate is good with lots of rice, chicken and pork. It had a exotic different flavor I had never tasted. Only $13.99, and the food is not expensive here at all. Nice place and workers. I wanna come back again.

Andrew ..

Yelp
I never leave reviews unless the food is absolutely trash or a hazard so this is an exception. Chicken is raw and room temp. Shrimp was lightly toasted for exterior and raw again on the inside. Threw away all the food but probably too late and contracted something or gonna be sick later.

Natali O.

Yelp
Very delicious food and open late! Recommend the dim sum, Mongolian beef, orange chicken, sesame chicken, so good! Open late and good prices. Try the custard buns! Try the cream cheese wontons! Parking on site and plenty of seating inside and outside!

Yelp
Place is wild. Right in a parking lot. In the middle of Chinatown. Pumping out tons of food! The highlight was the kung pao chicken. So flavorful and so delicious. They have a lot of different food you can choose from. Beef and broccoli was also good too.
google avatar

Algino B.

Yelp
Open until 3am. Perfect hidden in the wall Chinese spot! Fried rice and Mongolian with an extra side of wings was completely amazing! They literally cook the food fresh off the stove!
google avatar

Kirsten S.

Yelp
Sticky floors & sticky table. Kitchen was dirty with no ventilation and dirty vents. Food made me lose my appetite and I wish I never saw it stays open till 2am. Never again[Sad to say this hole in the wall place was not it]

Yelp
I was on a hunt for any open restaurant on thanksgiving and luckily we found this spot. I was excited for chinese food and sadly it did not meet my expectations. The food was ok, not the best. The chow mien was more enjoyable than the orange chicken (overly breaded). The walnut shrimp was probably the best out of the 3 items. However, the service was great. The staff was attentive and nice.

Yelp
They were very nice people. I ordered last minute cause I work in a Bio Lab . I get out of work late so I order sui mi and a few other things the food was done very quickly, and when they found out, they only had one order left of the sui mi they called me immediately to let me know. They only had one order left and as conversation they would double one of the other items had ordered, and the food was delicious.

Yelp
Nice staff. Lunch special is a good deal and portion is pretty big. Lots of food options available from different Asian countries.

Yelp
Animal/hair. Just Nasty!! I ordered through Uber Eats and the bag was sealed when I received it. Definitely will not order from this mess ever again.

Yelp
Golden Lake, located in Chinatown-Los Angeles near the Southeast corner of Broadway & College, carefully nestled in a hidden shopping center. Golden Lake and it's staff of seasoned cooks strive to please their customers. Some foodies may state claim that all Chinese food is relatively the same. Nope, no it's not, Panda style versus American-Chinese style versus Hong Kong style Chinese food are day and night in comparison with each other. Don't get me wrong, Panda hits the spot when the Panda cook uses a hotter wok temperature. Panda aside, this place has its religious following in the Chinatown area. Traditionalists embrace Golden Lake as one of their very own, there's a reason why Golden Lake is bustling in the heart of Chinatown, yet Panda is no where to be seen or heard. Traditionalists prefer mom & pop owned Chinese restaurants, frowning away from franchisees like Panda. Correct me if I'm wrong. Having crisscrossed Southeast Asia many moons ago, Golden Lake Chinese food brings back fond memories of my past travels in lands unknown. Battambang, Phnom Penh, and HCMC-Saigon are absolutely amazing when you ditch the sheltered life of a fancy hotel, and dare to venture about just as the locals do. For the time being, without extensive travel, we all can enjoy traveling as foodies by tasting and exploring the endless possibilities that culinary exploration provides. Dare to try something different, dare to try something Chinese besides Panda style fast food. This place closes everyday at 2am. Highly recommended. Jordan

Yelp
Definitely going to need to try this again in person to get a true final verdict. Overall our DoorDash earlier this month was solid but not what I was expecting. We ordered a beef crispy noodle and the garlic chicken along with a spicy beef wrap. Not sure if they mixed our order up because the wrap was solid almost an eggroll burrito but it wasn't spicy even with the included sauce so perhaps I got the regular one. The beef noodles was solid and had a ton of heft being nicely rich but not too heavy. The garlic chicken had me the most confused as while the chicken was great and very well sauced I was surprised at barely if any tasting any garlic. More Teri almost in taste than anything. Perhaps this place is better in person so I'd have to give it another go but overall a solid option for late night!

Yelp
Very large menu!!! The parking lot is hard to see the first time coming here. Lots of free parking. Seating available outside. Everything I have tried here has been super yummy!!! Plus they are open late. I highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Do not eat here because I'm warning , you will get sick. Orange chicken was hard, I could not chew it or swallow. Never again!

Yelp
I always enjoy trying out new places and golden lake would pop up from time to time. I went around 4pm on a Monday, the store was empty. As soon as I walk to the register, I get dismissed by a man immediately. My friend are like, whatever and just seat ourselves. First, the interior of the store is so dirty! Definitely not a clean or nice environment to be eating in. Second we asked for ice water and we're given warm warm tap water, it was gross. Third both of our food was horrible! I got the combination dry noodle, had a bite, and could not even finish it. My friend got the beef noodle soup which was a little more edible than mine, but still, the beef in the soup was very sour and weird tasting. After my friend finished their noodles, we went up to the register to pay and leave. Even then they had us waiting for a good amount of time before finally helping us out with the tab. All in all the food, service, and vibes were not it for me. I don't know if I would come back and give it another try..

Malia C.

Yelp
The food and service was terrible. We ordered the rice noodle with beef and meatballs. The meat was old and clearly the marinated stir fry kind which they washed and threw into the broth. The chef yelled and argued. The dishes were dirty and the place smelled terrible. They call it Cambodian but I have never tasted such terrible food in my life. I got food poisoning. The Lok Lak beef was mushy and the rice was hard. It was yellow and obviously very old. This place was overall unpleasant, dirty, unsanitary, and unsafe. I rate this place 0.

Yelp
After several more visits here (and trying more of their dishes), I have decided to upgrade my rating to 5/5 stars. I wholeheartedly recommend the following menu items: Orange Chicken Orange Shrimp Mongolian Beef Shrimp Fried Rice BBQ Pork Chow Mein Egg Tarts P.S. The minimum order to score a free parking validation ticket is currently $12. P.P.S. Their phone line seems to be glitchy and intermittently inoperative. Order online or in-person if you can't place an order with them via telephone.

Yelp
Honestly kindness and customer service for me personally goes a long way and keeps me coming back for more. Hope the Yelp Squad can help out this kind local business out here in Chinatown - if you're around the area of course!

Valeria R.

Yelp
Exactly what I wanted, exactly what I needed Great yummy portions, open till late, and a lot of options

Ari S.

Yelp
Their website says Buy 1, get 1 free and they wouldn't honor it! After placing order on their website and going for pick up, they mention that you have to manually enter 2 as quantity, which is not mentioned on their website

Yelp
Interesting. Good food. Always nice to try something new. Would have to try out their soup one of these days.
google avatar

Ashley L.

Yelp
Really wanted to support this small business, but unfortunately the dish I ordered (Szechuan chicken lunch special) was quite subpar. It didn't have many pieces of chicken and wasn't spicy at all (definitely Americanized flavor). It did come with one egg roll and one wonton, which were both alright. I also found two pieces of hair in the chicken dish, which was definitely disappointing. I'm hoping that their other dishes are better and that they can abide by food safety guidelines! The workers there were really nice though!

Yelp
Very good food. And a Bonus is that it's open late. Got food delivered right after 1:00 am...food was still hot and tasted fresh. I ordered beef with broccoli which was sweet and had good quality beef. Broccoli was not soggy which was a pleasant surprise. The first bite of bbq pork fried rice had me excited! Egg, peas, carrots in it...Delicious. It didn't need any soy sauce like other restaurants. I also ordered egg rolls which were crispy and flavorful.
google avatar

Anderson L.

Yelp
Noodle too sweet. Fried chicken too dry. The dumplings are mushy. Overall a bad experience.
google avatar

Anjanette T.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Chinese egg tarts. The ones from here are pretty good but not the best I've had. For the price of 6 I probably wouldn't get them again. But the service was good so I would recommend checking them out.
google avatar

Yelp
Hard pass. C14- Combination Combodian Dry noodles w/ soup on the side. All the meat toppings were dry and the shrimp was slimy. Noodles were bland dispite the color and soup base was super bland with a bunch of just green onion and NO bone with meat which they forgot even tho I asked and pointed my finger 3 times to make sure the soup came like the photo shown on the menu. Lady at the cashier just kept saying Yes yes yes dry noodle. So you bet, the Chinese 9 piece steames pork buns were good, they chopped opened the frozen packaging of it at the front register right in front of us. Smh Also while waiting, we saw the cashier microwave rice that was put into white box containers. Shouldn't the rice be fresh at least? I saw a new batch being made but still microwaving rice for a to-go order is kinda sad. Definitely NOT coming back. I should have read more reviews. Visited at 8pm on a Monday night, it was empty. That always worries me when a place isn't busy. Don't waste your time.
google avatar

Theron A.

Yelp
This place was a 5 star a few years back. They got new owners now, and kept the old menu. It just doesn't hit the same. They don't give you that bone broth with the knuckle in it anymore. I still f with this joint though, bc they're open late night and the food is still solid. You won't get diarrhea eating here.
google avatar

Brenn R.

Yelp
The food was a complete and utter disappointment. The fried rice had no flavor and the meager sprinkling of veggies seemed as if they'd been recently frozen. The orange chicken had too much of an oddly sweet sauce. I also found the prices to be pretty exorbitant considering the lack of quality and flavor. The portions were big, but I'd much rather have a delicious, quality meal of smaller proportions for the same price if that were an option. I wouldn't give this place a second chance, and unfortunately most of the food found its way into the trash.

Jason W.

Yelp
Amazing eatery! I highly recommend it to everyone else! Cambodian food is one of my favorites!

Yelp
First red flag, there was no one in this place at peak lunch hour on a Saturday! I originally came to try out their Cambodian dry noodle dishes however they were out so instead I ordered the following: spicy beef noodle soup, beef rolls, fried pork intestines, salty chicken with herb sauce (they didnt have hainan chicken available but the waitress told me it was the same, weird). The first dish which was the spicy beef noodle which tasted okay. Not amazing but not bad. Then the fried pork intestine came out and it tasted so bad. The meat tasted putrid and was smelly do NOT get it. I saw a lot of people ordering it and thought it'd be good but be warned! Then the beef roll came out and it was mediocre. The pancake was way too oily and borderline undercooked as well. Lastly, the chicken came out and I thought it'd be safe but it wasn't. I'm pretty sure it was defrosted old chicken that they had. Some parts were cold and other parts were warm. When I got closer to the bone for one of the pieces I swear it was frozen a little bit. The sauce on top was the only redeeming thing about the chicken. On top of the food being bad the place just looked ding. The tables didn't even have any standard sauces or utensils or anything for that matter. This place may be cheap but do not go here. I really wish I read some of the reviews instead of being deceived by the photos. A lot of other people have shared some pretty horrific experiences here too. I'm certain that this place is not up to health code standard either so please just beware.

Eric M.

Yelp
Stay away, the Chinese food was not good. Only the steamed dumplings were good. Sweet and sour pork was reheated fried pork, beef wraps were cold and greasy. I ordered a banh mi it was the worst one I ever had, the pork was cold dried out meat that tasted like it was a day old. Instead of slices of pork it was small little chunks. I actually took it to the counter and told her it also the roll was wet from the pickle??? It should never be wet and gooey. I hate leaving a bad review but I spent $68, ugh what a waste.
google avatar

Lorna Y.

Yelp
I came in tonight to order some Pho Noodle soup, the two girls working there does NOT seem to know what's going on, and what they have. The menu gives a variety of choices to choose from, so I chose two noodle soups. Then she tells me, we don't have that... So what do you have, apparently nothing on that side of the menu. My only choice was a Beef Noodle! Bad customer service! Would NOT consider even going back to order anything!! I'd rather pay a few dollars more elsewhere.
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
We went here since it was open late and ordered a few things that were popular on Yelp. Unfortunately I didn't read through the reviews or else I would have known the photos and good reviews were all from the previous owner! I'm all for supporting small mom and pop shops, but... this was a lie and so sad. The photos of the succulent hainan chicken pieces are replaced with old, dry chicken bones. The combination noodles also had an off putting taste. The only thing that was edible was the soup. A nice old lady came out to give us the order tho. Hoping I ordered the wrong things and they have stuff that actually is okay?

Yelp
So, I'm fairly certain they've very recently changed owners. My wife and I visited this beloved restaurant earlier this week, and a few Chinese gentlemen (whom I did not recognize) behind the counter greeted me and handed me an apparently newly printed Chinese menu. Problem is, I didn't want Chinese takeout food--I went there for Vietnamese. I asked him where the Viet menu was, and he had no idea. I went on to describe the different Viet soups I was looking for and he gave me blank stares in return. Truth was, the Viet menu was literally on the counter right next to the newly printed Chinese menu. He had one copy of the Viet menu open and was in the process of drawing big black X's over each item, which I assume to mean they are discontinuing those items. He then tried to point me to the soup section of the Chinese menu, at which point I gave up on conversing with him. When I reached for the Viet menu on the counter, he then tried telling me that was the same menu. SMH. That should have been my fair warning. Yet I stayed. I ordered the ole house special combo noodle soup and cha gio. Dear gosh. One bite of each and I regretted ordering anything at all. The cha gio was literally Chinese take out veggie egg rolls, with mushy cabbage inside. It was not cha gio. The noodle soup was...who knows what the hell that was. Completely tasteless yellowish soup, with pho noodles in it and literally tasteless random meats thrown in. I had to grab the table salt and a variety of table sauces available to me and season my own soup--something I hadn't done in a restaurant in probably 15 years. I couldn't even finish half of my meal. I just had no idea what I was eating. And it tasted gross. And I was just so confused about what the hell was in my bowl at all. The worst part? Our water cups were coated with really disgusting brown goo on the insides of the cup that easily came off if you touch it with the straw...meaning it could have easily washed off. At that point I wondered if our cups had been washed at all. This forced us to order some bottled drinks just so we had something to drink with our meal. Ugh. Tough to say, but this is it. No more. We're never going back. I've un-bookmarked this place in my Yelp app. This restaurant had a good run, when it was managed by the previous owner lady, Lyly. I guess the new owners are transforming it into a Chinese takeout place.

Yelp
It pains me to write this review, since I used to go here often years ago -- but this is by the far WORST banh mi I have ever had in my entire life. And I've had some nonsense "banh mi" that didn't even use baguettes. The banh mi itself was sweet (???) rather than savory, because I assume they used too much sugar when pickling the veggies. We had to take the veggies out. The bread itself was just mush -- maybe because they pulled wet pickled veggies straight out of a jar or something and put it onto bread?!?! And no pate. So literally, sweet banh mi with sugary veggies in soggy bread and missing key ingredients that cost $12-13 for two sandwiches. Coming from immigrants, I never waste food, so I am grumpily munching my way through this terrible, terrible excuse for a banh mi sandwich. Service has always been very nice in the past (though they did forget my order today and it took like 20-30 to get my sandwiches -- but it was an innocent mistake). Despite the spotty service, I just can't get how bad this banh mi was. Sigh.
