"Riding the rails from Switzerland's Montreux to Interlaken has long been one of the most picturesque train rides in the world. The debut of the GoldenPass Express, nicknamed GPX, offers a seamless single ride that takes about three hours and 15 minutes. Passengers have the choice of three different classes aboard the scenic ride: second class, first class, and the prestige class. A selection of drinks and snacks are available for purchase on board, as well as the option to book meals in advance." - Travel + Leisure Editors

"Switzerland has no shortage of scenic rail routes, but the Goldenpass Express could make hopping between the ski resorts in Montreux, Gstaad, and Interlaken even more panoramic. Seat reservations are now open on the new locomotive by Italian design firm Pininfarina (best known for its Ferrari and Maserati cars), which can effortlessly shift between a narrow and standard track gauge—meaning travelers will no longer have to change trains at Zweisimmen station. The real showstopper, though, is its floor-to-ceiling windows, which feature anti-reflection technology for optimal photo-taking onboard. With its grand debut scheduled for December 2022 and a promise of dramatic views of the Bernese Alps, this is one train ride worth waiting for."

🚆 GoldenPass Railway – A Scenic Journey Like No Other 🌄 The GoldenPass Railway is truly one of Switzerland’s most breathtaking train journeys. Running between Montreux and Lucerne, it offers a front-row seat to the country’s stunning landscapes—snowy peaks, lush valleys, glistening lakes, and picture-perfect Swiss villages. 🛤️ Experience & Comfort The panoramic coaches are designed to maximize your view, with large windows that let you soak in every bit of the scenery. Seats are comfortable, clean, and spacious—some trains even offer VIP seats at the very front for a driver’s-eye view! It’s not just travel—it’s a full experience. 📍 Route & Highlights From the palm-lined shores of Lake Geneva to the chalet-dotted hills of the Bernese Oberland, every stretch of the journey is visually stunning. Stops like Gstaad, Zweisimmen, and Interlaken are worth exploring if you’re doing the route in parts. ⏱️ Punctuality & Service True to Swiss efficiency, trains run on time and the staff are friendly and helpful. You can easily book seats and check timetables online. 🎫 Tip: If you have a Swiss Travel Pass, the ride is included! And booking a seat in advance for panoramic coaches is highly recommended during peak seasons. 📸 Photo Opportunities Don’t forget your camera—this is one of the most photogenic rail journeys in the world! ⭐ Overall The GoldenPass Railway is more than just transportation—it's an unforgettable scenic adventure through the heart of Switzerland. Whether you're a tourist or a local, it's a journey that leaves you in awe.

I do advice prior purchase of tickets as they do sell out in advance, also purchase any food you would like in advance as well that way when you're sat they immediately serve your goodies! It was overcast, rainy and cloudy but the views were still great! Sitting back in the comfy seats by the window with a hot cappuccino and a charcuterie board is amazing! The staff was excellent!

What a beautiful train journey. This is an incredible experience that I’m lucky to have done twice/three times. In summer the experience is completely different from winter. It’s so peaceful and relaxing. I rode from Montreux to gstaad and I think it took about 1hr 30. Amazing! 😻

I expected it to be a regular, boring train ride but on departing Montreux, the train passed by some of the most spectacular mountain scenery. If you have the time, do gift yourself this beautiful train ride. I don't think you'll regret it.
