Flushing’s Golden Shopping Mall Food Court Has Closed for Now | Eater NY

"One of the city’s most important food halls is shutting down for renovations: Golden Shopping Mall, famously the birthplace of Xi’an Famous Foods and a source of many other Chinese favorites, has closed so the mall can get a revamp, and it’s not clear where some of the most popular vendors will return." - Serena Dai

I had been in Warrington for 2years (2023-2025). No doubt Golden Square Shopping centre is the main and key shopping hub for all living in and around Warrington. There are almost all kinds of shop and key banks located here. The most interesting part is the bus terminal from where one travel to wonderful cities in just £2 - Liverpool, Manchester etc. Many entertainment arrangements are done during summer for kids and decorated during Christmas/New Year.

It's big and cabernous but with a surprisingly decent healthy range of shops, including quite a few high end jewellers - you can pick up some decent time prices or wedding related jewellery in here. The car park is big and confusing but adequate enough. It feels there is a lot of wasted space for the footprint of the building but my biggest complaint is it's cold in there with few decent food options.

Great shops and cafes - close to bus station and car park

Not bad, but certainly not good by any stretch of the imagination. Toilets are not well kept, parking can be nightmare (although is cheap), one of the lifts is normally out of service. Not many shops, more cafes and places to eat, with the selection of places to eat being subpar.

I didn’t even know a DCM menswear store had opened in the Warrington mall. Ended up kitting my son out who was made up. Great range of men’s clothes, very helpful staff and reasonably priced. Definitely treating myself next time

This shopping centre has gone downhill since it was taken over ages ago, one lift hasn't worked for months and the one next to it has had to be kept going by taking parts from its neighbour, we were here today and the whole centre is like a freezer and certainly not pleasant to be walking around, I feel sorry for the shops having to put up with such shoddiness. It is certainly not inviting. There are two more lifts at the other end but it's pot luck if they are both working as well. It's as though there is no pride in the place, the owners should be ashamed of how it is and get it sorted once and for all

Not a lot here at all. More food and coffee places than anything, and the food is only mediocre at best to be honest! I don’t understand how they can call it late night shopping when none of the shops are open! Late night should mean LATE NIGHT, not closed at teatime! Nearly everywhere is shut by 6pm! Most shops are closed permanently and the ones are open are nothing special. Most of the time you can’t even get what you want, or can only get half of it and they want to order stuff in for you. Not a very wide variety of shops at all.. Primark is the best shop here, and as far as primarks go, it’s not really very good at all. Save yourself some hassle and travel to Manchester or Liverpool where the shopping is actually good and you can get what you need. If you’re going here then make sure to use the toilet at home before you leave, because the toilets are always disgusting here. Parking is usually shocking as well. Would not recommend. It’s okay if you’re stuck like, but ideally, avoid it if you can!

I go because it’s local and I can walk if need be. Sad to see so many shops closing down and not what it was years ago. Got what I needed in Pandora. A gift. Would I go just to stroll and enjoy a day out like I used to? No.

Yelp
The Golden Square is quite a nice shopping center, especially for a small town like Warrington. It is Warrington's main shopping center alongside Cockhedge, which is mainly there just to house an Asda store. As you can tell by its name, Golden Square is basically a large, indoor "Square" of shops, with 135 shops in total according to their website, all over one floor. I dislike the approach of it all being over one floor, being used to seeing shopping centers on multiple floors, which also allows room for more shops, but Warrington's Golden Square also has a few stores in an outside square to it, which is also quite nice including Rhode Island Coffee and a Post Office, which is a nice area. The Shopping Center as I said is quite nice, both inside and out with a good range of shops, including WHSmtih, EE, Starbucks CEX, JD, 3, Waterstones and Vision Express, just to name a few. Due to the shape of the mall, it is quite easy to navigate around. This mall is quite nice for a small town and although it isn't somewhere I'd recommenced you constantly go out of your way to go here, it is well worth a look in if you are in the area as it is a nice shopping center, with a good range of shops and is great for a small town like Warrington, hence a solid 3 star rating.

Yelp
A shopping centre in the centre of Warrington town centre with all your usual high street shops - Boots, WHSmith, Next, M&S. Its all under cover so the potential bad English weather won't be a factor. According to their web site, there are 135 stores inside. I went recently a few days before Christmas and it wasn't too busy - nothing like shopping centres like Arndale Centre or Trafford Centre (actually never normally go to Trafford Centre but especially near Christmas but I think I can safely say its crazy busy!) Didn't stay too long but went to Boots and also went to Debenhams for some food - which was actually pretty good. There is multi storey car parking but unfortunately it is not free. For under an hour, its £1. It goes up to £5.50 if you are more than 4 hours. Between 2-4 hours is £2.20 which is not too bad I guess.

Yelp
I have a feeling that Golden Square is good for Golden Square Visitors add to the congestion, park up in the adjacent car park, shop and leave. It looks like it's already having a negative impact on the high street and independent retailers. I think there will be very little overspill to the town centre shops. I'm sure those who like shopping centres will like it and as shopping centres go it is very nice. But it's not for me. PS. It is ugly from the outside.

Yelp
An excellent selection of all types of shop under one roof. Although I remember Warrington with a traditional open market, this is, in fact, quite a good shopping area. The main complaints are regarding the car parking; notably that, when busy, it is almost impossible to get out, with one small exit for all the levels. Personally, we always go by bus or walk, but this is because we live close enough. If they want to seriously compete with places like Liverpool 1 and Trafford Centre, they must improve this. The shops are already on the way towards competing. I have also been impressed with how well-kept it always looks. There seem to be sufficient staff to maintain the cleanliness - what a rarity!

Yelp
This is a great shopping centre since it's been done up. It's easy to get round and has all the shops that you'd expect to see in a shopping centre. Unfortunately they are all chains there are no independant businesses. Parking is on the expensive side but is very convenient.

Yelp
I'd somehow managed to get through life without ever setting foot in Warrington until very recently (at least if you disgregard occasionally changing trains at Bank Quay station). Having now, sort of, put that right after stopping off on a day out with the kids I have to say it seems to be a more than decent shopping area and the Golden Square Shopping Centre is much better than any shopping centres closer to home. We didn't have a great deal of time to look around so a quick Costa Coffee, a browse around Primark and very quick scoot around the rest of the centre was all we could manage on the day but we are very much intending to return so we can have a more leisurely visit.

Yelp
The shopping centre is largely an improvement, however as it has been enlarged by adding on to the existing centre the path taken while shopping is not smooth. That said it has attracted new shops which can only be a bonus

Yelp
What a fantastic place this is to go shopping now! Loads of new shops and most of them indoors so you don't need to worry about the weather. There are ample facilities for baby changing and toilets. The parking is now a lot easier. It could still do with more improvement outside in the market area but I am hoping that is to come in the future. Also some more shopsPrimark??!!

Yelp
to some it up. its an average joe. not everyone has one of these mini shopping centres in the middle of town. unless ur birmingham u got a massive one(bullring). good selection of shops, enough for men, enough for women, and even enough for the kids. it doesnt look that big, but when theres no school kids etc, it is really spacious. really nice.

Yelp
I had really high hopes when this new mall was opening, however it isn't as fantastic as we were first led to believe. Yes, we do have some fantastic new shops that we didn't have before, such as Bank, republic and our very own Debenhams, however the mall is still on the small side and isn't as large and comprehensive as we first thought. Moaning aside it is a huge improvement on the original Golden Square and looks very fancy. The Car Parking is okay, but we could still do with a few more spaces. Loads of coffee shops and places to eat so this is good. Overall a mixed bag!

Yelp
I was really pleased when I heard that the Golden Square was going to be redeveloped yet over 12 months since its been open, its a disappointment. Not all the units are open, the new half has been tagged onto the existing centre so if you want to get to one place you have to walk all the way around, theres no way of cutting through, which is annoying if you just want to go to WHSmiths. The choice of shops is interesting with a Sony shop, and H&M but I feel that its yet to reach its full potential and could do without those irritating people with stalls who like to grab your nails and try to sell dead sea mud products to you

Yelp
I love to visit the "Square" but on Monday 17th Feb 2014 1.30pm-- 2.30pm I noticed a down turn in it's appearance and amenities. First there was a lack of disabled parking ( it appears to have been reduced) my wife and I both severely disabled had to park away at the furthest point. Second . Some of the Mall seating had been reduced. Third. in Debenham's restaurant there was so little choice of food, that we walked out. Debenhams' apologised for this. And on top of that there were two chaps selling paint ball equipment at the top the escalator outside of Debenham's. One of them skylarking with potential female customer's danced backwards and landed on my lap in my wheelchair hurting me and damaging my wheelchair. when I complained he then went on to angrily argue with me, until I pointed out that he was walking backwards into me at the time. In front of witnesses. I would like to think , the Golden Square will get some of it's glitter back again. In all on the above date. It wasn't a good day.
