Golden State Chef Co

I have been going to Golden State for 2 years now. This is by far the best meal prep service in the area when it comes to flavor, variety, and overall composition of a dish. Every single thing is homemade. Every sauce even, and often times the sauces really set off the dish. In combination with working out I was able to lose 30+ lbs eating their meals, even just for dinners. They are not afraid to use spice in the sauces either which is great. It’s pricier than other places but it is really worth it when you look at everything that goes into their dishes and the oven safe containers, etc. Some dishes are a miss, not going to lie. But the thing I like about this place is they change dishes, you almost never have the same dish twice. GOAT dishes - buffalo chicken bowl, banh mih chicken bowl, elote chicken, any pork meatball dish, pesto pasta, any taco bowl.. the list goes on but those have been the favorites in this house!!

Great food selections. The meals are flavorful and the ingredients seem fresh. My husband and I enjoy all of the meals. We are both busy professionals who also workout, so the high protein fresh ingredient meals are perfect for us. Highly recommend.

We’re so glad that we found this place! We order a couple of dinners for the week and have found everything to be very, very good. Meals are creative, tasty, and wholesome. It’s so nice to know that we have really good options for dinner in the fridge and they’ll be ready in 15 minutes. Highly recommended!

Went in tonight for the first time got the Korean beef $15 and chicken salad $10. Warmed up the beef for 15 mins in the oven. The beef came out super tender. The sauce was very deep with flavor. The rice was cooked well and the carrots were soft tender and sweet. Feeling very satisfied after eating the meal. Everything tastes, smells, and feels super fresh. So happy I stopped in here! Highly recommend this place.

I've ate here a few times. Appreciate the variety of meals, and even within one dish, there is a good variety of ingredients that keep the meals from being boring and make the price feel justified. My last time there however, a beef based dished had the strong taste and smell of old fish. It was very off putting and gives me concerns about their food safety practices.

Got the garlic Parmesan steak and mashed potatos, probably the best meal I’ve had in a while and it was like $15. Workers are super nice 10/10 would recommend

This place is great! I picked up a turkey salad, coconut curry shrimp, apple panchetta chicken, overnight oats and a few different boxes/flavors of protein balls. All of it was delicious, the staff or owners where prompt, polite and gracious. The place was very clean. I would highly recommend it, I can say enough good things about it. Thank you! (I meant to take pictures but I was far to busy enjoying my food)

11/15/24 - I wanted to wait a full week before making my review, & I can confidently say the 5 ⭐️’s have been earned. I’ve tried plenty of meal kit services in the past & usually get bored of the food rather quickly, that’s not the case here. Every meal has been delicious! & if your trying to track your protein/calories this is the way to go. They officially have a new lifelong customer. Keep it up guys!! 1-22-25 I feel the need to update & lower my rating, I don’t want to have to call myself out but I do feel others should be informed & hopefully the chefs can practice better sanitation & storage procedures. I did really liked the convenience of this place. I was consistent for 3 weeks. But ngl I kept getting diarrhea.. again not trying to call myself out 🥴 but this wasn’t normal for me. It was after every meal.. I stopped utilizing the meal kits here & went back to cooking at home. & the 💩 did in-fact stop & resumed to normal. Just a thought, maybe others are experiencing this? If something would change I’d come back in a heartbeat bc the food was tasty just not worth the crazy bathroom trips.

Finally stopped in to try some of their grab-n-go items and had the pleasure of meeting Clay and Jeff who were busy chopping and prepping in the open kitchen area. This place is super clean which is a major criteria for me. I loved the Slammin' Salmon bowl! My Wife gives the Mediterranean Chicken 7 stars! My Son and I devoured the breakfast burritos! You can taste the freshness. The flavor balance and level of doneness was perfect for each item!

My wife and I love the convenience of grabbing something to go. They have a nice variety of options every week and it always tastes great.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover Golden State Chef. I simply needed a quick bite during my lunch break and didn't want to venture too far from my job site. I didn't think twice about what I might find here, but I am happy to find something so convenient. You basically walk in, grab a meal in one of their eco friendly microwaveable containers, then pay and go. There is no looking through a long menu or waiting for them to make your food. The best part is the food is tasty but still healthy (which is their main selling point). Down to earth and passionate chefs always make great products.

Wow Golden State catered the ribbon cutting event for the LifeWorks chiropractic office on the same complex. I have always wanted to try the food here since hearing about them back 5 years ago or so. They had fresh juices: watermelon and strawberry, all fresh squeezed too. All of their food is made from scratch and nothing is bought prepared. The quality of ingredients is beyond amazing. Their ingredients are GF, dairy free and soy free. The owners are super friendly and informative about their ingredients and meal contents. They have the ability to heat up the prepared meals onsite and tables in the locale for peeps that want to sit and eat for a spell. All of their Togo containers can be put into the ovens and are plant based. I saw their GF and dairy free (almond and coconut) chocolate chip salted cookies, they were chewy and absolutely the next gf/dairy free cookie I have ever had so far. I tried their jerk chicken and tinga and their chickpea cabbage salad. The chickpea cabbage salad was tasty. The jerk chicken and chicken tinga was so tasty and with their pickled onions, sauce and even with the kimchi was top notch. I didn't try their steak or their chorizo (not on their menu), but they also looked good. They have ready to go lunch packs and kid friendly meals too. I would so love and want to have Ryan be our personal chef and to make us every meal. I will be back here as often as possible. They offer food for pickup or delivery too, can it get any better than that?

I would 10 out of 10 recommend this place to anyone looking for a healthy meal at an affordable price on a night they just don't have the energy to cook and clean up. High quality ingredients and excellent flavor combinations. This place is a hidden gem

Our daughter was born three weeks early and we didn't meal prep much before she was born. My mom bought us some Golden State Chef meals to help us out and WOW... our expectations were so far surpassed. We will be ordering more and soon!

Deliciousness Food always fresh. Chefs are always professional and friendly. Must try if you are in Royal Oak. There food wakes up you palate and makes your taste buds dance!

Chef Ryan is personable and knowledgeable. It was my first time going in, and I simply asked what the program was? He was more than helpful in telling me about what his restaurant is all about as well as where I can get information, and get delivery. I bought the Yucatan pork brought it home and made it. Surprisingly it was delicious. Nothing against him but I assume that anything boxed is going to be rather bland, but this had great taste and even microwaved it was delicious. I can't wait to go back and try a few of the other choices. the building is a little awkward to get into but definitely worth a stop in, and see what it's all about.

Great to see a new family owned food business. Chicken Verde Mujadra Plate Chicken Noodle soup. I was so impressed by the amount of gelatin in the container. That's how you can tell it's the real deal. I remember my parents cooking soup bones for several hours, and the resulting broth was like pure gelatin when it was refrigerated. It's a pricey treat if you are on a food budget, but if you are busy boss and want to eat very good, quality food you gotta try this place. 5 stars

Great food! Tastes better than all other prep food places with a variety of healthful ingredients. Just look at the cookbooks in the store. You know you are in good company! My wife and I gladly pay a little bit more for better quality.

Dear Michiganders, this is worth it. You don't realize it's dairy free and soy free. The food tastes great and a great value. My daughter cannot have dairy and soy. These meals absolutely do not contain it. Trust me, we'd know because our daughter would definitely be acting like it does if it was in there. It's very fresh and they deliver!

This place is a breath of fresh air! I follow a strict soy free, dairy free and gluten free diet but am still a carnivore. It can be difficult to find foods that follow these guidelines and are still appealing to me. When I went in today, I was surprised to see that all of their offerings are within my diet and all so delicious. The price is also extremely reasonable. Can't wait to go back!

Great healthy meals made fresh by a trained chef and amazing staff. You can order your meals for the week ahead or stop in any time to pick them out from the refrigerated case. Salads and wraps ready to eat, and warm meals that heat quickly in the oven or microwave.

I'm on my second week of ordering my lunches ahead of time for pick up, and I am SO impressed! Everything has been delicious, but my favorite thing about the meals are the sauces. The vegetable curry is wonderful. I love that everything tastes so fresh, and you can tell it's simple ingredients. It's helped me to eat less meat and stay on track with my health goals. My future bride and I hired Chef Ryan to cater a dinner for our friends and family. He prepared an amazing cocktail/hors d'oeuvre menu. Everything was fresh, and delicious! He was professional and very organized. Everyone had a great time, and we would definitely use them again.

What an absolutely fabulous experience!!! I can't say enough good things about Ryan and the Golden State Chef Company. We threw a dinner party for 8 guests, French themed. The food was incredible and perfectly portioned. The presentation was gorgeous, and he printed out menus for each person. It was a nice touch. With each course Ryan came out to our table and explained what we were eating and how it was prepared. It added to the magic of the evening and our guests loved it. When Ryan and Lindsey (his wife and partner) left at the end of the night, the kitchen was spotless. They took care of every detail. Finally Ryan and his wife Lindsey are just totally cool. They brought a real good energy to the party. They joked around with us, were super friendly to our guests and became part of the group. Everyone loved them! I can't imagine ever throwing a party without them. Thank you, Ryan and Lindsey!

I had their Mexican Steak meal today and it was awesome. Outstanding taste and a great portion of steak and sides. I would highly recommend you trying this dish! I'm looking forward to trying the next dish in the fridge! I'll definitely be back for more. Great job by the chef!

In December my husband and I attended a fabulous dinner party at our friends home. Golden State Chef prepared a 5 or 6 course meal take was amazing! Every course was sensational. The food was unique and so flavorful.It was beautifully prepared. I called my friends the next day and told them it was the nicest party I had ever attended. I would highly recommend Golden State Chef for your next catered event.

The food is delicious, the service to both in house diners and carry out is top notch. Creative menus are augmented by superb ingredients. And if the dessert Powerballs are on the menu, do not miss them.

Can't say enough good things about Ryan and Golden State Chef Co. We put together a surprise anniversary dinner for my mom and Ryan was helpful from Day 1, with lots of creative ideas and flexibility. My dad has had a stroke and is hard to communicate with sometimes, but Ryan was open and welcoming and the night went off perfectly. The food was more than incredible tasting, it was also beautifully served and helpfully described at each stage. Each bite had unique flavors and everyone oooh'd and ahhh'd over each dish. I've never felt so pampered and I know my mom loved it. Ryan is also engaging and friendly and just fun to be around, which made the night even better. I am keeping Ryan on tap for future special occasions and highly recommend him to anyone who wants a unique evening of culinary excellence!

We stopped in tonight for the first time. We tried the Steak Bibimbap, Golden State Detox Bowl and the Chicken Chickpea Stew. Everything was absolutely delicious and packed with flavor. The chef was great to chat with. We can't wait to go back.

We had an awesome experience. The food was amazing - New York Strips/Salmon/Lobster Ravioli. The sides were insane carrots/asparagus/red skin potatoes. Normal food with a delicious flair. So helpful and accommodating. Look forward to the next opportunity to enjoy their talents.

Ryan catered at a surprise bachelorette party hosted for a friend. He did an incredible job. The food was seriously some of the best I'd ever had. Ryan was very kind and professional. I highly recommend him for any event!

I attended a small dinner party catered by Golden State Chef Company. It was for Valentine's Day and it was fantastic! All the food was 'pink' themed, it was so fun! The best part was the salmon. I am not usually a fan of salmon and my husband doesn't like ANY fish, but this was to die for! Even my husband agreed which really says something about how good it was. Can't wait to eat some of Golden State's yummy food again!

Ryan and Lindsey opened at a store front location in Royal Oak on Catalpa between Washington and Main Street, and I am excited and impressed with the food they offer and serve. You can eat there, but the restaurant seems geared more toward carry out and delivery. The food is fresh, expertly prepared, and thoughtfully put together. The menu changes weekly. So far this week I've tasted and thoroughly enjoyed a Carnitas Burrito Bowl--Served w/ white rice, pickled red onions, quest fresco, black beans, roasted zucchini and a citrus mojo sauce. (Contains dairy in cheese on side), Thai Coconut Meatballs --Ground beef meatballs served over stewed cabbage, carrots and potatoes and thai coconut milk sauce, and an Autumn Quinoa Salad with Chicken --Red quinoa, cauliflower rice, apples, sautéed onions, garlic and a chimichurri aioli and Chicken. The space is clean and comfortable, the food is delicious, the owners are great, and I hope they will be there for many years.

Ryan catered 2 outstanding holiday events for us. The first was a formal plated 5 course dinner service for 10 that was delicious and decadent. Everyone's favorite was his truffled potato soup. The second was a buffet style service of upscale finger foods for 50, each item embellished with a special sauce or topping. The food was delicious. The presentation was impeccable. The service and clean up were perfect. He has great suggestions and is easy to work with in developing creative and enjoyable menus. Don't hesitate to select Ryan and his team for your next catering event.

Really cannot say enough good things about Chef Ryan and Lindsey! They made the most amazing meal for my husband's birthday party with our neighbors. The food was INCREDIBLE - crispy chicken skin, clam chowder, mussels, pork belly -every last bite was delicious and the presentation was perfect. It was exactly what we wanted. If you are looking for a chef to do a private dinner party, look no further! The night was such a success, I'm sure we will be inviting them back!

Appalled would be an understatement! I initially spoke to Ryan for our intimate wedding dinner of 10-12 people. He suggested $50-$60/person for a 5 course meal. I thought that was rather high given no protein or dessert, but its for a special day so I agreed. After a few days Ryan sent me a vegetarian menu with a cost of $1,200!!!!!! That's $100-$120/person. I've been in quite a few fine dining establishments and can't say I've ever spent that, let alone on a meal with no meat. Beware
