Came here last night with very low expectations. Got the General Gao's plus some dumplings, w/ crab rangoon and chicken chow mein, eh... ...not overly impressed.
Asked for tea and was really surprised about what happened next: this place is the first ever Chinese restaurant that I ask for tea which did not provide me with a pitcher of warm tea, but rather a single serving baggy in a mug of new england tea. No sugar, no sweetener, and not even a mention of whether I would have liked it perhaps? Really strange all around experience from past Chinese restaurants I have visited and really half assed it seemed. Now, generally, I take my tea/coffee plain so no big deal but this was already a red flag, or lack of trying?
Surprisingly, the food itself was tasty so it countered the above negative. The sauces were yummy, and the dumplings were really good. Service was OK minus the above tea mention? Portions however, were regrettably small, despite the tasty mention above (rice was served in the smallest cup) and perhaps one of the smallest servings I have also ever seen in a Chinese restaurant, given that generally Chinese places serve an abundance of food. Now, my focus is always on quality vs. quantity, but when I am noticing how small the servings are, I feel we have a problem lol.
Manchester seems to be lacking in its culinary offerings, which is why this place may have been rated so highly? I would say this place is passable for take out, but nothing screams at me to return here in a hurry, and I would be willing to try other places before setting foot here again.
