This schools alright for a place to get a degree. But that’s pretty much it to be honest, school doesn’t really help when it comes questions about my mothers financial aid since she’s thinking about attending here. Somehow she’s gotta obtain a degree from the high school she graduated 37yrs ago in Vietnam. As well seem lazy in not wanting to help my mother. Shes now deciding if she’s gonna attend.

Google
We come here for the swap meet on weekends. This is our favorite and come even though it's far for us. Great prices and always find good things. This place is not full of cheap items like other swap meets that now just have cheap repetitive stuff in each stand.

Google
Went to see a baseball game. There is plenty of parking near the field. A parking fee may be required. Near the baseball field are 12 dedicated pickleball courts rentable for a very reasonable price

The swapmeet here on the weekends is great. There are a ton of vendors; selling everything from food, tools, electronics, and home goods.

SO GREAT!

Definitely recommend others attend this college. They've been so helpful since starting my first semester here. I've enjoyed my time here so far.

Google
I would recommend parking on the Gothard St side. It is a bit of a walk, but I have never seen it full. It feels so good to pass through the beautiful campus

George Flevotomos

Google
Golden West college swapmeet is a great little gem this place has free parking and free admission it has all you need some new stuff but mostly antiques and collectibles from A-Z you will find it here including this super fresh fish market we had a great time

Yelp
Hello! I just submitted my application for transfer to UCI and UCR, and I want to share the experience I had with the Transfer Center. I was helped by Mati Portugal Alvarez, and what an amazing and priceless experience she gave me! Mati took her time with me, she gave me undivided attention during this entire process. She was extremely patient and heartfelt over the course of 4 long visits. I want people to know, including GWC professionals, what a gem we have here on campus! :) Mati is an exceptional addition to this staff. She went way above and beyond her job expectations as she helped guide me through the process. Mati connected with me on a personal level and saw me as so much more than my application. She was kind, considerate, compassionate,, sincere, a wonderful listener, very skilled and highly engaged. I'm so grateful for the help she provided me with and will always remember my experience with her. Mati shared with me how she's a rather new employee here at GWC, and I feel it's important that everyone know, how amazingly blessed we are to have her as an addition to this staff to help all students who are taking the next step in their education journey. So with that, THANK YOU MATI for everything you did for me! You truly are special! :) Ps. If you're applying for transfer be sure to see Mati.

Yelp
Worst School i went to, the staff and teachers are very rude and talk down to you especially through online classes, even if you study amd work hard they don't achknowledge your hard work or efforts, don't go to this school. You can get a degree much faster somewhere else.

Yelp
if your trying to buy a electric bike or scooter from the swap meet don't buy from this man.this man sold me a scooter for 200 dollars and said it was brand new but it was a piece of crap and when i took it back he said "it was refurbished", but it had scratches and the brake didn't even work right. don't buy from this man he will just scam you. He is also really disrespectful and doesn't have a good attitude.the swap meet it really good thought.

Yelp
tl,dr: Nice community to meet various needs. Likes: + I like that they built many pickleball courts (24 total) for the community to enjoy. $5 cash drop-in. + Security frequently patrols the grounds even after class hours. Feels safe. + Many of my friends pursued their career development at this campus. + This location is near various common-needs shops, such as restaurants, pharmacies, and convenience stores. Non-likes: - Parking requires payment even after peak class hours.

Yelp
No accountability by the staff including the top administration. I felt unsafe coming here in general. Security gets there often late to resolve and not care of urgency. Too biased and censor significantly with freedom of the truth plus inclusion. Too much disfunction by the front by not knowing much to do in handling serious complaints. The VPs including Janet Houlihan & Claudia Lee, need to take responsibility along with all the deans too. Fire the bad staff and replace with better ones should be a start to go with. Doing the right act, not favor heavy because an employee nor staff works here, gender, or let along any favoritism. This 2 year college needs lots of real changes. Starting from top to punish more hard who do wrong even morally that falls towards the laws written. Don't recommend this college coming in especially as a student truthfully.

Yelp
Beautiful campus and staff. D1 fill quiet, clean, good sports teams. And other special class like we police corps program

Yelp
I went in to sign up for an exam and the lady that helped me was very kind and helpful.

Yelp
Never respond to emails and you can never get an actual person to answer the phone. I paid to reschedule because the first appointment I had they didn't let me test because I was missing a original form. and they kept the money order and never responded to my emails regarding the payment and never confirmed any new dates I picked. I will now repay FULL price to schedule my test and hopefully this time I can actually take it or did I waste money taking the CNA course twice and can't even get certified for it?

Yelp
I do not recommend this college to anyone They circumvent and fail, run from any nursing classes they are only interested in young and those who have a 4.0 continually

Kiissa T.

Yelp
Their Men's waterpolo team is very unsportsmanlike and very disrespectful. As a team. I'm very happy my son didn't go to this college at all.

Yelp
This is a great JC in the Central side of the OC. I mainly want to yelp their swap meet on the weekends i have been going to for many years now. My baby girl attends this college working her way up to transfer to UC Irvine and get her Masters and Bachelors degrees. Great student body instructors here. It may not be the top JC in all of OC, But they have wonderful programs and classes here.

Yelp
To the cosmetology salon services: I went in asking if they offered balayage as one of the services. I was told yes so I made an appointment for the next day. I had cut my hair there before so I figured I could trust them with color since they have teachers overseeing the work. I should not have done that. The 2 girls working on my hair were great but I kept noticing the technique they were using was not what I had seen for balayage. Of course I thought I was over thinking it since the teacher, who's supposed to be the expert, came over several times and said that it was coming out great. I showed them a picture of what I wanted before we started. I told them I wanted a caramel/chocolate. They only gave me a caramel color. It wasn't until they took a picture outside and showed me that I realized they went super light in color. They did ombre instead. Ombre and balayage are two different things. I hated it so much that I wanted to chop off my hair just to get rid of it. I thought of going back and have them fix it but if they couldn't even tell those two apart then they probably weren't gonna be able to give me what I asked for so I went to a different salon the very next day where they said that my hair was not balayage but in fact, ombre. So there I went spending even more money to get my hair right.

Yelp
Financial Aid Office staffs made me write this comment. My financial aid forced me to confirm my Bachelor's degree but I just graduated from High School, I corrected my FAFSA from July, August, I went to school for the first time, then the kid in the FAFSA office said she needed more 1 day for it to enter the system. The second time I went to school 1 week later, another staff member said that Sep 5th is a holiday so the system was down and she told me to wait 1 more week. I waited 1 week, maybe even 2 weeks. I emailed them asking and they told me maybe I haven't edited my FAFSA form, or I haven't pressed the sumbit button. If I don't press the submit button how will I get the FAFSA email and tell me I succeeded? Stop being lazy, okay???

Yelp
Affordable college with helpful staff. Being a veteran, I was anxious about the academic process required to get my benefits, but the Veterans Resource Center was able to help me out with every aspect required. Great service and wonderful people.

Ryan T.

Yelp
Discrimination. That was how i feel when talking to their financial aid staff. She was very mean to me - a low income, immigrant, untraditional student.

Lefteye J.

Yelp
It's a pain in the ass getting financial aid for books. I was only able to get the fee waiver for tuition, but no money for books. And I have to fight tooth and nail to get the direct loan in order for me to buy books for class. This shouldn't be happening.

Yelp
I laugh every time I watch Community because it actually reminds me of my honor's study group at Golden West College. If only Jeff Winger had been apart of it... GWC will always have a soft spot in my heart. I completed my associates of nursing here and while it was a long road; almost four years with all those prerequisites and general education you must complete, overall it was a good experience. I started off as an "International Student" here. Yes, that's a little laughable but because of student visas, etc. this was the only route I could go to become a US student. Nobody really considered Canada to be "International", but I met some awesome and interesting people who truly were from "abroad" while going here. Besides the nursing program, I met a lot of great people at GWC. People are from every age group and background. I did the honors program with my general education and though challenging it was great to have a separate group of people to hang out with. The campus itself is pretty big so be careful when you plan your classes. It sucks to have to run from one end of campus to another in the short time period between some of them. Never had a problem with parking, the bookstore or administration. I did have a very odd run in with a sexual deviant in the library once but that's a story for a different day ;) If you're going the community college route, specifically the nursing one, then I do recommend this program. It has a reputation for really hard teachers but in the end it's well worth it. I've worked with many new grads from different schools in OC and have to say they don't all stack up. It's been almost six years since I graduated from here and while I'm sure things have changed some, GWC nursing still has an excellent reputation in Orange County. Even for general education or to transfer to University, I completely recommend GWC.

Yelp
Throughout my time of being a student here, I've had nothing but trouble with the VA counselor Sonia. She is unprofessional, incompetent, and rude. I've spoken to a handful of other veteran students and they have told me that they have had nothing but problems and issues with her as well. She has always waited till the very last minute to verify myself and others GI bill benefits, which results in none of us receiving our book stipends or our monthly housing allowance, with many of us rely and survive on. When questioned, she just shrugs and makes up some excuse, lying and saying she sent it up two weeks prior, yet when I called the VA myself, they notified me that she just sent the request up 2 days prior. So now, I'm out of rent and my book stipend. This has happened every single semester I have been enrolled here. Will be writing a formal complaint ASAP.

Yelp
My review may be a bit biased 'cause I've taken most of my classes at OCC. I totally prefer OCC over GWC. I just hate how old the school here looks and all the trees and whatnot. Gives the school a creepy vibe at night, plus windy days make it really annoying when I've got dust and leaves blowing in my face The students here are mostly ESL students so they're very competitive in classes. However, most are friendly and the teachers here are friendly as well. The classrooms are so outdated especially the lecture halls. The new library is nice, but here's why this school gets only 3 stars. The tutor center SUCKS. At OCC they're open longer and welcome you anytime for walkin tutoring. At GWC you gotta make stupid appointments which are only about an hour long from what I remember. Plus the workers here are assholes and just seem to hate their job. I remember the office where you go to buy student discount tickets for theme parks etc had workers that just gave students a really hard time to buy the tickets. PARKING - don't even get me started. They've got stupid diagonal stalls here and random signs that you might miss saying "DO NOT PARK BACKWARD INTO STALLS" One time I accidentally was late for a class and didn't notice the sign. I got a ticket for it and UNLIKE OCC, GWC doesn't waive your first ticket (talk about cheap asses). You gotta go to some stupid "court" appeal that the school has and plead your case Their admin office has rude lazy workers as well. The only good thing this school has is bella terra next door

Yelp
Bad college at everything ... some people aren't friendly and look down for people doesn't speak English ... be careful of parking lots you can get tickets because of horrible parked from students !And they wouldn't help all your students benefits...

Yelp
This review is for the Financial Aid Office: Everyone in the office has been great from the start but I have to give a huge shoutout to Andrea for being so incredibly patient and understanding when I was going through the whole process. She genuinely cares about helping the students that come through the door, answering questions and helping in any way possible. It's caring people like her that make college life so much better! Now for the counseling department: Every counselor should be like Damian Jordan!!!! If I had someone like him to advise me back when I finished high school, I would have been done with college by now. He is super knowledgeable and cares for every student's future. Where have you been all my life??

Yelp
I grew up in the area and I went to went to Golden West College. I took automotive classes during my time there. I cannot relate to any of the complaints from these other students. I had an excellent time there, and my education there has served me quite well. If you want a good education go to Golden West College no doubt. If you want to be a protester or other type of woke idiot go somewhere else. It's quite funny to me that most of these one star ratings, these people can't even spell totally hilarious. I think it is truly the best school in the area.

Yelp
Lol found a few more 20 minute parking spots! So far I've located two individual spots next to each other on the Gothard side, far from campus, and then a few on the Edinger side, very close to the light... making it impossible to get out if you are unlucky enough to try to be leaving just as class ended. Oy! Two stars for the two 20 minute parking areas. :)
google avatar

Nico M.

Yelp
As a school overall I love the school however every other system they have here is ridiculous every semester they ask you for your license plate color make and model of your car when you buy a parking permit so they can put you in their system each permit gets numbered to that specific car But when you get a ticket all of a sudden that system doesn't work mean while the ticket and the permit are attached to your license plate because the lady specially told me that each permit is to a specific car and if someone does something with my permit on their car I get in trouble so they can see you have a permit but only when it's convenient to them then the ticket says you can contest it but they won't let you so I'm not sure what the point of that is
google avatar

Mercedes H.

Yelp
I had a great experience at this Community College. In regard to all the other bad reviews, I can't relate to any of them. I've been at Golden West for three years, received my AA, and had a very easy process with financial aid, counseling, and transferring. I definitely recommend this school, I also went to Cerritos College for a year and would say I had a better experience at Golden West.

Yelp
There are three things that GWC does not satisfy to my needs, even though it's only my "first semester" at the college: Lack of an "actual cafeteria" - As much as I love going across the street on Edinger and Goldenwest (or to Bella Terra) for lunch every day, I'm actually a bit shocked that GWC does NOT have an actual "cafeteria." Yes, I understand they actually have a couple of vending machines here and there, but come on, guys. I need real "FOOD" - not just instant noodles and PowerBars I could purchase for $2.00 each at the campus bookstore!! Slow wifi connection - Okay, with that out of the way, I have another thing that I need to pick with; the wifi connection is REALLY bad. I could get a connection at the library on my laptop perfectly, but on my iPhone, I connect to the CCCD wifi, and it just didn't do anything. Even when I turn on my 3G/4G LTE it still dropped down a peg. Yes, that may be a "minor thing" but I have had this happen to me pretty much all throughout the semester, and I couldn't take it anymore. Student "No-Shows" - I hate to be Mr. Negativity here, but getting "dropped" from class after the first two weeks into the semester is just plain (excuse my French) B.-F'in-S! I was sick over the whole Labor Day weekend, and one of the teachers I had (I'm not in her class anymore) dropped me because of a no-show. Come on! Really? Oh, wait, the teacher doesn't even use BLACKBOARD or even email to communicate with her students!! I...I don't get it. Okay, end rant. :)

Yelp
I come here around my 8years staying school through my graduation and but I graduation on fourth years on May/March 2022 and I little bit shocked myself where is deaf and hard of hearing students and I noticed college new and same students signed up colleges and sometimes and Three Classes ESL 021,022,032 is pass mostly ESL Classes is failed because I'm serious through hard times difficult and I'm not give up and I have to follow my goal and my successful in college. GWC is okay and I'm respect college and I loves my professor Alisson and Nancy and Dave. DSPS is good and nice and respect. I'm totally understand mostly deaf and hard of hearing students in different classes and clubs. Thanks DSPS and Golden West College and Bookstore and office. and I hope parking lots is free for new and formers students and teachers.

Yelp
Came to this campus for a competition many times. Huge parking availability, beautiful campus. Many sport (as well as - natch- academic events) can be held here. Their hosting teaming GSSC, as always puts on a great event. Always gracious and efficient.

Yelp
I remember having trouble finding parking here, but the amount of open spaces greatly increases as the semester goes by. Initially, I was afraid of my car getting scratched and what not due to the high number of Asian drivers (:-p I'm Asian... so I can say it!) and since the parking spots are soooo small. Thankfully, the student population is considerate or perhaps I've been fortunate too. A complaint that I have is that there is barely any shaded parking here. Poor car! :( I took a few classes here and enjoyed the fact that it was a "larger"/more lively community college as compared to Westminster's Coastline. All my classes was very structured and I could tell that the professors (or doctors, whatever they wished to be called) were a lot more personable than my professors at UCI. I found out so much about my professors and they were a lot more approachable. Add on the fact that they have smaller classes, smaller fees, and still a great education makes me wish that I went to JC for 2 years and then transferred!

Yelp
Follow up to my order from hell: It has been a week and my order still has not been confirmed, meaning, I doubt if its been processed, and the training session is next month, like, in August. The store hours are a joke (they are open M-F, and close at 4 pm) and I can't seem to get an estimated date when they will process my order. There's always a joke about government employees not caring. This takes it to a whole new level (and there's no humor in that).
google avatar

Michelle N.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my short time here as a student. The campus is really nice, I love the library and the modern built that is designed into it. You definitely need to check it out if you havent. I also like the fact that the campus is rather small and not too immensely large. Parking was never an issue and overcrowded population of students was also never an issue. I met a lot of interesting and friendly people in my lab and lecture class. I fell in love with anatomy class here and felt the class was something I breathed and dreamed about every night (through cramming). That was the beauty of taking Mike Valinluck (most adorable geeky teacher that ever existed) and Annamaria (such a caring sassy person). It was beyond just a course for me... I left the school feeling a bitter sadness to it, which is to say I haven't felt since Cypress College (I left UCI and CSULB and never felt anything). I tip my hat off to Mike and Anamaria, they are definitely a fun duo to have as teachers. My one semester here, I learned more techniques to study and identify my weakness and strength as a student than I ever did (that or I'm just getting older). Goldenwest is very lucky to have such substantial faculty members who care so deeply about their student's success and endeavors. I can only speak for anatomy as a course (but I know everyone who is going into med, dental, pt, pharm, and nursing will find this review helpful in taking that final course before you head off into your program. You will learn, and you'll find yourself thinking about your bones and physiological system when you're done. Now, if thats not a bang for your bucks in education, then I think the education system is failing you. (I feel this review should have gone onto ratemyprofessors....check out my rate professor review too! lol) C'est La Vie

Yelp
This is a great little college, I've been enrolled for over a year now. This spring semester will be my last one before moving on to CSU. You have to learn to take the good with the bad, if you're reading this review on a community college, you probably already there. I've met awesome teachers here and I've also met a few that I absolutely didn't like. The cafe is pretty cool, lots of choices, it makes up for small number of vending machines. I think there's two or three. But the student center is top notch and they are doing a few renovations for some more up to date buildings.
google avatar

Elaine N.

Yelp
I don't understand why people opt for OCC instead of GWC... obviously if one school tends to your major more then go ahead and go there but there are people that attend OCC just because it's "nicer". Although GWC might not be a visually pleasing, I love it there! I've taken classes with some amazing professors. The counselors are kind of a hit or miss. I've seen Jimmy and he's awesome but other times I've seen other people and they don't help me whatsoever. Parking is always easy to find... when you're running late to class it's easy to find parking on the outskirts of the parking lot but since the parking lot isn't that big anyways it's not hard to quickly walk to class. Can't imagine doing that at OCC! You'd have to run a mile before getting to class. :P The one thing I can think of that I hate about this school is the financial aid office, I swear, nobody ever helps you in that damn office!
google avatar

Yelp
I used to work at this campus for a few years and I loved it. The campus itself is very nice and quiet. I took some classes while working here and the teachers I had were all amazing. I live out of state now and I pay thousands of dollars for the same quality of education. So I think students here should be grateful to pay such a low price for a very good education. Things to know about the campus. Parking is enforced, meaning you have to pay for it. You can be one of the many people that insists on buying a daily permit for two dollars every time you come to campus, or you can buy the semester permit for thirty bucks. The daily permit machines break down from time to time, and the lines to get a daily permit are always very long at the beginning of the semester. It's a good idea to talk to the campus security about parking if you have any questions. They're on campus 24-7. You can get cited for not having a permit so don't chance it. Show up a little early to find a parking spot, especially the first 3-4 weeks of the semester. If you think parking here is bad, go to Cal State LB and you will realize how good it is at GWC. Though it is a nice campus in a nice area, crime does occur on and around campus. Be smart, lock your car, don't leave valuable items in plain sight, and report suspicious activity. Walk in groups or call security if you want a ride to and/or from class. If you ride a bicycle you definitely need a great top of the line bike lock. Food on campus isn't cheap, so if you're on a budget (most people are now) then bring a lunch. There are a few places near by where you can eat for less money than you would pay on campus, but it's definitely cheaper to pack a lunch. Del Taco is probably the cheapest and closest option. It's at Gothard and Center. The bookstore is crazy busy the first few weeks of school. Buy your books on half.com, I did and it worked out great. They have wi-fI on campus if you have a student or staff log-in. This is great because there are plenty of good spots to study on campus. I know a lot about this place, message me if you have questions. You will get a great return on your investment if you study here.

Yelp
Love this j.c. I seem to always get the classes I need here. Not too crowded and has a nice library to study in, but honestly some people need to shut their mouths. Its a library, not the mall.

Yelp
I wanted to give a huge thank you to Berlin Valencia from the financial aid office for going out of her way and helping me understand how to apply. Great personality!

Yelp
I love golden west and their professors. The campus is nice and being rebuilt. Great CC! Now I'm at cal state Fullerton and it's exactly like GWC but better.

Yelp
If you live in Orange County, you know Golden West College is not viewed as the "best" community college, compared to OCC or Fullerton College. However, I don't think it's as bad as people said it would be. Sure, the buildings are outdated and it lacks a social vibe, but there is more to it. What makes it aesthetically is the fact that it is very green! When walking on campus, you are immediately surrounded by many lovely trees and bushes, and I think that really outweighs the old buildings. It is also a relatively quiet campus compared to others, which is something I like. The quiet campus makes it better to study. There are several places to sit down and study or relax on campus. I personally enjoy going to the native garden or the library. The library is one of the newest buildings on campus, and it is very wonderful! It is lovely and very resourceful. The group study rooms are very convenient for group projects. I was fortunate enough to have great professors (well, all except one). The professors I had were really enthusiastic and passionate about teaching their subjects, and they were always quite helpful. Make sure you go on "rate my professor" to research your professors! Counselors are really a hit-or-miss, but most of them are helpful. Jimmy and Amy were those who were the most helpful. Try to see them if you can. Utilize the transfer center and career center, especially if you're undecided about your major or which university to attend (if transferring). The staff members are very friendly and are there to help you. Use the Health Center! You're paying for it! The nurses/doctors/psychologists are there to help you when you need it. A consultation with a doctor/nurse is usually free, and the prescriptions are usually cheap. If you need any further testing or an appointment with a specialist, they can send you affordable, low-cost locations. I really haven't had a problem with parking. There always seems to be enough parking for everyone. I do wish the Financial Office was a bit more organized, however. I understand that there are many students wanting financial aid, but I still have not obtained last year's cal grant (and won't receive it until this December). Golden West College may have its problems, but the good things outweigh the bad. If you like a green, small, quiet campus that has caring professors and counselors, go here.

Yelp
In my opinion, one of the best Junior colleges in Southern California. This school flies under the radar. It has an earthy look, but many buildings are in the process of remodels and reconstruction. Overall, a nice experience.

Yelp
Beautiful Criminal Justice Training Center! Great new facility to train law enforcement!!

Yelp
I take mostly online classes. Some teachers are very unorganized and try to use multiple websites for lessons which make it difficult to keep up with all the assignments. Online classes using programs such as mymathlab or aplia are very interactive and make learning so much easier. Its much more effective than only assigning extremely long reading assignments. One thing that i am very frustrated about is the counseling division. Every time i call, im put on hold for 15+ minutes. Even calling RIGHT at 8am when they open, im on hold for 20+min...is anyone even working -____- Update- been on hold for 30+ min now....called goldenwest college # to tell them ive been on hold for 30+ minutes and to check what is going on. The lady argued that she cant do anything for me and jus call back later then hung up on me....gwc is not only a school but a business as well. They obviously have terrible service.

Yelp
First off, I am not one to write a review about anything or anyone. But If I feel that I am being attacked by someone, especially someone who should be a professional, I will be writing a review. I am giving Golden West College five stars. But this review is for one of their professors; Sherene Jensen who should be receiving ZERO stars. Professor Sherene Jensen is in the Sociology department at Golden West College. I took her class online and I will never take her class ever again. She is incapable of remaining objective. If you email her for clarification on assignments she will respond back with a negative rude and unprofessional comment and grade you unfairly. You are better off without saying anything to her at all. Which is strange, because shouldn't you be allowed to speak to your teacher or voice your opinion on your own work?! She is defensive and combative in her responses. Her mind set is that she is 100% right ALL the time. This is someone who should not be allowed to teach. If the majority of students are confused by a syllabus, perhaps you should have clear rubrics and objectives. I personally felt I was graded poorly which lowered my grade significantly. It is almost hard to believe that she has this many positive comments on the Rate My Professor website. I believe her friends wrote these about her to make her look better. She is the only teacher I receive surveys on at Golden West College and best believe I submit them right back. Sherene Jensen makes you feel like a child with the way she responds, she expects you to do graduate school work, she does realize we are in a Junior Community College, right? Oh, and be prepared to teach yourself, she absolutely does not teach or help you with anything. She gives you assignments and PowerPoint slides that come directly from the book. So make sure you read and do your own research to teach yourself! Another thing she does that makes no sense is... she will say your quiz or exam will be based off a certain chapter. When in reality it's not! You seriously, have to dig around to find your answers. Example; I had emailed her about a question to clarify since I did not find it in the book and I found it off Google. Her response was practically "Reference to the book and do not use Google." Funny story, her assistant recorded herself explaining about another test question and that "if we just googled it, the answer shows up". LIKE WHAT? Confusing right? So do I go off Google or not? I absolutely learned nothing from her or her assistant, I basically was my own teacher. I seriously suggest Golden West College to look into who they hire, because this teacher should not be working here or anywhere. She is ridiculous and unfair. I am so glad to be done with this class.

Yelp
I have been going to Golden West for a little while now and I thought I would review a few things for incoming students. Overall, my experience has been okay. I have had a few absolutely incredible professors and more than a few absolutely horrid ones. I don't know how some of them get hired anywhere because they are so terrible, but the good ones can make up for it by miles. The campus is lovely and has a certain quietness, even with some construction going on recently. The cafeteria is meh. Unhealthy food and weird hours. The bookstore is a total scam just like any other college. They try very hard to force students to buy their books and (I think) they force professors of general ed classes to use their choice of overpriced books. Recently, a student in my class said that the homework sheets we need are added to their textbook bundle so students have to buy their textbook in order to get the homework. I guess I'll find out. It seems like there's always some new way they are trying to rob the students. The workers in the bookstore and cafeteria are usually pretty nice. I've never had an issue with any counselors or other staff either, they were all very kind and tried their best to be helpful if you keep in touch with them. Also, if you have financial aid, get it done early because sometimes they take forever. I know this a very mixed review, but its my experience here at Golden West for the past couple years. It's a decent college, but keep your options open in case textbook prices are cheaper or there is a better selection of professors somewhere else for a class you need to take.

Yelp
Mary from the health services department is hardcore rude. Everyone else here does not know what to do. I have been misinformed so many times by different people, and their school counsellors leave early so they can't help me. I will take my business elsewhere! :)

Yelp
PROS ABOUT GWC: - nature-feel (i love the shaded benches) - new library - teachers who actually care/teach well (Rate My Professor-- them). This can be a hit/miss but I am taking 20 units right now and all of my teachers are great! - great coffee cart - next to the 405/22 freeways - easier than OCC to get classes CONS ABOUT GWC - when you mention to somebody that you go here... you would always get a negative connotation in return - lack of lights - extremely RAPEYYYY feel at night (avoid night classes) - DIRTY ASS bathrooms... (I would go out of my way to use the library's bathroom... even if it is across campus) This is my first and only semester at GWC and I give it an (A-OK). (both pros/cons to this community college)

Yelp
Golden west college is a great community college. Most of the professors I've had here have been beyond amazing. They care about their subject and their students and they want you to succeed. After coming from a cal state school, the professors I've had at goldenwest have been just as good, if not better. The one issue I have with this campus is the counseling department. They really need to hire for nursing counsellors considering they have such a prestigious nursing school. Everyone at goldenwest has treated me with respect and been super helpful, except the counseling staff.

Yelp
Just DONT bother even coming, you will just go insane by the lack of help from teachers, all they say is "not my problem" and I have been told that 6 times by 3 different teachers when I needed help many many times. The school is trash like it looks more of an abandoned college with flying trash everywhere, i find a bunch of stoner and drunk kids like having a Rap battle at the outside stage in the back of college and there all drinking and smoking and this is durning night school and the college dosent do shit about them because they dont care that teens are just getting plastered in the back of the college and they can't even paint the college to look more nice and clean? It's just a ghetto school to take your money and leave with bullshit learning from this none caring college don't waste your time if you want a good future go find a better college

Yelp
DO NOT REGISTER FOR THIS SCHOOL!!! My sister just recieved a notice from collections, this school sent her to collections and she NEVER WENT TO SCHOOL THERE. THEY NEVER SENT A BILL. She had perfect credit and a school she never went to is forcing payment they never asked for. THIS SCHOOL IS A SCAM! THEY SEND YOU TO COLLECTIONS FOR BILLS YOU NEVER GOT FOR A SCHOOL YOU NEVER ATTENDED. She doesnt even live in the state so they know she cant take them to court. They are demanding $61 from a young lady who never went to their school. I cant believe they are still allowed to be in business.

Yelp
Yeah the school is fine. Some decent profs, some bad. I've pretty much had a class in every area at the school and its been mixed. Try reatemyprofessor.com to get the scoop on those you should avoid. They did a nice job on the renovations to various areas on campus. Parking is a pain in the ass but there is usually parking on the golden west side. I've come pretty accustom to having to walk to class so I don't complain. Try finding parking at CSULB and you won't complain about this place! Word tot he wise take one of those classes to use the gym. It may not have those most equipment but it has the best. Exactly what you need and its where I found my love for rowing!!! I have never found another gym with abs machines like theirs. It's just the best and if I could I would still go there. You are limited because how many times you can enroll in a class.
