Golden Wheat is a quaint, charming little spot, perfect for a weekend breakfast with friends, a bulk order of baked goods to go, or a working weekday morning utilizing their free Wi-Fi. The staff is kind and friendly with the locals. I started my breakfast with a pork and cheese pupusa, a horchata latte, and a biscotti cookie. I was a little disappointed to see my pupusa come out of a microwave, rather than off a hot griddle, but it was still tasty. The biscotti is perfectly soft and sweet dipped in the horchata latte, which itself is unique and balanced. Later in the morning I tried the burrito Mexican and a chicken tamale. The tamale is good, but the burrito is excellent! It's rolled fresh with generous portions of delicious, spiced meat. I also tried a host of baked goods. My favorites are the blueberry muffin and the coffee cake, both of which are soft and moist with a deep flavor. They remind me of a pan dulce — not too sweet but very satisfying. Some other highlights for me are the ginger molasses cookie, which tastes like it's made with fresh ginger — yum! — and the pecan sticky bun, which is rich and delicious warmed up.

This has been one of my favorite bakeries, I love their sourdough bread, and breakfast burritos. Overall selection of pastries and coffee are on point and the vibe is very homey.

*my original review was deleted * Inside the Golden Wheat Bakery the smell of fresh baked goods pulls you in. Everything is fresh, flavorful, and made with care. Cozy vibes, friendly service, and the kind of bakery that makes you want to become a regular. I grabbed the blueberry coffee cake and—wow. Moist doesn't even begin to cover it. Soft, fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth perfection with juicy bursts of blueberry and a crumb topping that was chef’s kiss. It tasted homemade in the best way. Cozy, comforting, and totally worth a return trip. Golden Wheat Bakery, is a hidden gem tucked away but unforgettable. From blueberry coffee cake to croissants, every item has that homemade-with-love energy. A gem worth the detour.

Really wonderful family owned bakery. The atmosphere is very welcoming and warm, everyone working here was very kind and you can tell they love what they do! We got the horchata latte and protein latte. Both were very good and I got a tamale to go. The chicken tamale was sooo good and came with a delicious mild hot sauce. As we drank out lattes we saw the grandma / cook come from the kitchen to serve people their food (all the food coming from the kitchen smelled and looked delicious)!! It was so heartwarming to see. I will definitely be coming back here!

Google
The cute little bakery is located between 30th and Cherry St. It has a fusion of Mexican flares. I came in early today the place is pretty quiet but is probably bc is after 2 pm. The gal helped me seem very nice. The pastries didn't seem so fresh to me so I didn't want to buy much of anything. I got a club sandwich and a cookie for my niece. The coconut cookie looks tasty so I got one to try. It was pretty moist and delicious. Not overly coconut. The price seems high to me. Especially on the croissant. If you live in the area and want to support a local business, check them out.

Came here to grab a quick breakfast! This place totally deserves more recognition and attention! 💝✨ Ordered their Plain Bagel with cream cheese 🥯 , Chocolate Croissant 🥐 and CoffeeCake 🍰! Loved them all ❤️ The chocolate croissant is probably one of the best croissants I’ve ever had ! The filling was just perfect, not too sweet either 🥰 The coffee cake is perfectly done and topped off with some cinnamon sugar! Will definitely come again and recommend this place ❤️ Ps - They also offer lunch etc.

Google
Keep it a secret: An awesome breakfast or brunch spot! Excellent egg sandwiches and bakery goods that show they’ve got skill and originality…. They make a bread alligator…oh, that’s a secret too. Check this place out, you’ll be back!

Google
I have been coming to this bakery / restaurant for years and for them to suddenly revoke their bread slicing services is terrible customer service. Good service shouldn’t be reserved for people who buy from the bakery before 2:30pm. This is a new policy and not a good one.

Yelp
I came in for the first time while waiting for my car to get serviced down the street just for a coffee and a place to stay warm. Right away I could tell this was a homey place. There were locals sitting there enjoying breakfast and the owner was so welcoming and nice. The latte I ordered looked and tasted just like a solid good latte should be like. There were some really delicious looking pastries behind the counter but since I already ate that morning I had to make a note to return for some next time. I enjoyed the duration of my stay just being a fly on the wall while doing my morning reading. Just as important to my experience here were a few notable interactions I saw. Firstly the owner remembers people and their preferences. When one guy came in this morning, I heard "the usual?" Also he greets everyone with enthusiasm and kindness. Secondly another guy came in and the owner said "I have something for you that you dropped outside a few days ago" so they really care about their customers! Thirdly, staff just do what they need to to make the place clean and well maintained - I caught a lady quietly sweeping the front entrance and disappearing just as quickly. Finally at around 10:30 am I found out they were all sold out of empanadas, which means they are fresh and they go fast. I have yet to find another place that offers delicious coffee, pupusas, empanadas, AND tamales for breakfast. I really hope the people who run this place know just how special they are.

Yelp
My first time here today, and it won't be my last. Everyone that works here is absolutely friendly, and very helpful. And one thing I like everybody here was smiting! It makes you feel welcome. Amazing cookies, also amazing breads. And the croissants are huge! If you love ginger molasses cookies, this is your go to spot for a nice big cookie. I'm sitting in my car right now eating one. It is absolutely delicious. This would be a great spot to come have a cup of coffee and a pastry and just watch traffic go by. Ambiance is very chill!

Sabrina H.

Yelp
Great food, great service, absolute gem of a spot. Warm environment with no frills. The breakfast sandwich on croissant was perfect and the pastries and breads are excellent.

Yelp
I found this bakery on TGTG with 4 pastry with 5.99$. There are many ethiopian restaurant around. They provide Bakery, Breakfast, Pastries, Bread, Coffee & More. If you are craving high-quality bread and baked goods with good price this is the place. I tried their chocolate croissant and one dough with raisin. I would say their croissant serires are great with the rich flavor of butter and most importantly the stuff are not that sweet! I saw some pies as well, seems delicious! would like to try some time.

Yelp
What a lovely place! It was right down the street from where I stayed during my visit to Seattle. I got breakfast and coffee here both mornings of my stay. The employees were very nice and sweet with their suggestions. Very much appreciated! Thanks.

Yelp
For the culture! Y'all if you ever find yourself in the central district, make your way over to Golden Wheat. I was vending at the Creative Block right next store, and was in dire need of some coffee. I met one of the lovely ladies who supported my small business. She was so sweet and really hooked it up with the drinks. I ordered a large iced horchata latte and a chicken tamale. The latte was perfectly sweet and the cinnamon was on point. The chicken tamale had good spice and was really filling. But y'all, let me tell you. They have so many snacks and goodies that it would be a killer spot for brunch or to replace your daily Starbucks. Overall, support local and get you a horchata latte.

Yelp
The friendliest staff, the most delicious pastries, and fantastic coffee! I recommend the horchata latte, either hot or iced, it's my favorite. I also love the pickled slaw that comes with the pupusas, and the turkey tomato empanada is life giving!

Nina M.

Yelp
Golden wheat bakery is amazing. Workers are kind and warm, ambience is cozy, and their food/drinks are great. Their horchata latte is really flavorful. Also, they have the best pound cake I have ever had.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing breakfast snacks and sandwiches and there are even Bread-Ah-Gators! Very happy I finally stopped by this place. New regular spot.
google avatar

Marie B.

Yelp
The best breakfast sandwich in the CD hands down. We usually stop here once a week for breakfast while out on our morning walk.

Mark S.

Yelp
Yummy croissants! Wish i didn't live so far away as I would love a bakery like this walking distance from my house.

Yelp
I love this place. I went back to visit Seattle (where I used to live) for 4 days recently, and went to Golden Wheat 3 of the mornings. Lovely people, great coffee, empanadas, burritos, and baked goods. Thank you, Golden Wheat!

Yelp
Great pastries, coffee and vibe. Excellent neighborhood stop that is perfect to start your day.

Yelp
Last week I went on a bakery hopping frenzy, visiting three in one day and I'd have to say that Golden Wheat Bakery was my favorite. For me, it beat out Bakery Nouveau and Le Panier, which should be saying something! This humble, small shop located in a more residential area is a true hidden gem. The place sells basic bakery items you'd see at most other places (various pastries, cookies, breads, etc), but also has some speciality Latin American influenced items such as empanadas, tamales, etc. I decided to go with a slice of their quiche lorraine ($7) which was kindly heated up. They currently don't have any indoor seating, but there were 6 or so chairs outside that were available to enjoy my delicious breakfast. The savory eggy custard was oh so soft and melt in your mouth. It was perfectly swirled with bits of cheddar cheese and bacon. The crust was buttery and added a wonderful textural contrast to the smooth filling. The thick portion seemed to be about 1/4 of an entire quiche--very fair for the price. There was only one other person that visited the shop while I was there. I really hope that they're able to stay open during these tough times. I'd highly recommend supporting this smaller underrated business if you're ever in the area! I will certainly be back to try some other goodies. The pecan sticky roll was definitely calling my name on the way out.

Yelp
Great little local spot with villancicos (Christmas carols in Mexico) playing that transported me to my childhood. Loved my breakfast bagel - not quite sure what the type of bagel was but it was very tasty. Would be great to see some pan dulce here but I will definitely be back to try some coffee.
google avatar

Mary R.

Yelp
The pastries here are phenominal. They make the empanadas fresh too. Pro tip: they are not always displayed so many sure to ask about the empanadas!

Shalae M.

Yelp
I ordered from golden wheat off of Uber eats . I tried to order 2 pork tamales and 2 jalapeño cheddar tamales. 4 porks tamales cave and were inedible due to raw meat inside that wasn't thoroughly cleaned as there was also blood in it. I can't bring myself to order again after this

Danielle R.

Yelp
Amazing horchata latte and chocolate macaron. Perfect neighborhood spot, can't wait to come back.
google avatar

Lorene A.

Yelp
Hot day and walked to pick up something cold. Website and sign in window says open until 3 pm, but closed when I arrived at 2:10.
google avatar

Jessamine A.

Yelp
Stopped by Golden Wheat to pick up a loaf of bread for French toast - and it was amazing. The Challah was light, fluffy, and sweet and had a beautiful golden glaze. I'll definitely be coming back for some tamales and burritos. Staff was super friendly, too! There's some nice outdoor seating.
google avatar

Nathaly G.

Yelp
Service was very friendly, coffee was perfect (americano, black) and the pork tamal made my stomach and my heart happy! If you are near by...swing by! Sorry, no pictures. I ate too fast.
google avatar

Cassie A.

Yelp
Wow. Their chocolate pecan cookie was so perfect I had to immediately jump on Yelp to endorse this neighborhood gem. Además, ellas hablan español aquí.

Neil A.

Yelp
The breakfast burrito was really disappointing, coffee disappointing, atmosphere/service felt like I was imposing just by being there. It's a cute neighborhood joint that's been there forever but it needs to step it up.
google avatar

Stacy C.

Yelp
Finnnalllllyyy I found a croissant I loved since France! And no I'm not fancy. Literally wearing a shirt I found on the side walk a week ago. I'm just saying the chocolate croissant wasn't too showy, buttery or sweet. It was a beautiful flaky croissant with a secret of delicious chocolate. The staff was friendly. Coffee was real good. Wasn't a huge fan of the bagel but it wasn't bad at all. I just would get 1324089 more of the chocolate croissants. Skip the huge lines at the okay bakeries around and come here. Chill spot with nice locals.
google avatar

Diane R.

Yelp
Local gem. I am a tad ashamed to admit that when I saw the exterior, I thought 'hmmm' but my fiancé wanted to give it a try. I'm glad we did! The coffee was delicious, and I drink mine black so there's no hiding it. The empanadas and the tamales are stellar. I'm more of a savory person but the one heart shaped cookie I had was great too! More of a traditional bakery than Temple Pastries... if you want traditional (+ Mexican/Latin American options), go here. If you want FAAAANCY or unusual, then go to Temple. I love both but for different reasons. This place is also a better value (cheaper than Temple) since I believe it is run/operated by the owners also. Not trying to knock Temple - just saying they do different things well.

Yelp
I love Golden Wheat. It's the epitome of a family-owned, neighborhood bakery. They always have a fantastic array of cookies, pastries, and breads and I typically get a croissant -- plain or almond. The croissants truly compete with the best of Seattle's, like Bakery Nouveau. My boyfriend loves their big pieces of coffee cake, with a light yet moist texture. We've also had their challah, which he finds a little too sweet but I love. Some other excellent specialties include pupusas, breakfast burritos, and rugelach. In short, I would highly recommend patronizing Golden Wheat, especially during these difficult economic times.
google avatar

Skyler M.

Yelp
Love the skinny burrito with Avocado. Also great discount on one-day-old-bread (that's delicious)!
google avatar

Jane S.

Yelp
Such a great local bakery! Nice people, family owned and operated, coffee is good, books to read and wifi. Pecan cookies are great and that pecan roll looks so tempting! I had the pupusa and empanada today...tasty!
google avatar

Moses E.

Yelp
The Horchata Iced Latte is my new favorite drink. And all their pastries are baked there.
google avatar

Michael P.

Yelp
We finally visited here on the advice of a friend. The tamales are SO, SO good! Hola, ¡Olé! We will definitely become regular customers.
google avatar

Stacey J.

Yelp
Visited recently on my birthday to grab a selection of assorted cookies for sharing with others. Especially liked the pecan cookies (my favorite!) and the snickerdoodles. Tried my first-ever pupusas -- I'll be back for more of those for sure. Also nabbed a loaf of fresh bread. Because why wouldn't I try all the tasty bakery treats on my birthday?!?! Thanks for helping me celebrate with such delicious goodies!
google avatar

Shaun H.

Yelp
Warm family operated pastelería with the sweetest abuela making homemade tamales. Great for breakfast. I enjoyed the breakfast burrito with chorizo and avocado (added), and tamale with jalapeño and cheese.
google avatar

Alena S.

Yelp
We keep coming back for their fresh baked bread and horchata, both top notch! Need to try all their goodies at some point, they have a wide selection of offerings from sweet to savory. The place appears to be family run and they're always so friendly. Their olive bread is our favorite, but all their loaves are great.
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
I ordered a coffee, two blueberry muffins, a coffee cake and a croissant. My wife really liked the coffee cake! The blueberry muffins was tasty as well. I will go back some time to order a burrito.
google avatar

Daphne N.

Yelp
Skinny burrito- most underwhelming burrito I have ever eaten. The potatoes were green, it tastes like dirt. If I could have added sour cream and avocado maybe this burrito would have been bearable but they were out of both. For those people who claim this is the best burrito they are mistaken. You're better off making your breakfast at home- save your money.

Iris V.

Yelp
Oh this place is so good! Their pastries are ALWAYS fresh and delicious! I recommend their breakfast sandwiches and bagels!
google avatar

Salua K.

Yelp
I could feel greatly happy in this bakery. Although it isn't a fancy one, it is very welcoming. My sister insisted on getting for breakfast chocolate croissants. I am not very fond of sweet stuff for breakfast. It was a good chocolate croissant, however. It was not greasy as they usually are, and it was still warm from the oven. I really enjoyed the bit bitter of the dark chocolate, which gives a great flavor and an amazing smell. I love the cookies with some kind of cherry paste on top. As you can see, I got one for my after supper. Prices are very affordable and the sizes are good; not small at all. The music was hispanic, and the owners are the best touch to my visit this time. They will serve you themselves.
google avatar

Sara K.

Yelp
Love this place! Its a small, family owned establishment. They are always super courteous and their food is great.

Lourdes R.

Yelp
Delicious bacon, egg and cheese on a croissant or bagel sandwiches. Great coffee, authentic horchata & treats, cookies, cakes. A wonderful bakery, can't wait to return. Good service too!

Tanner F.

Yelp
Golden wheat bakery is an absolute gem. They have the best food options of any cafe I have been to in the area. The pastries are truly some of the best I have ever had, and the breakfast burrito is also very good, and I look forward to trying the papusas in the future. The lattes are very good and I especially love to get the unique and delicious horchata latte that they offer. The service is wonderful as well. Highly recommend to anyone considering trying golden wheat, you will be happy you did!
google avatar

Bria K.

Yelp
Truly a neighborhood hidden gem. Delicious and inexpensive (a rare combo). Super friendly service too :). Simple decor, not fancy, but, very welcoming.

Nachman B.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast /lunch pastries, sandwiches, Latino specialties and coffee. Can't go wrong here. Outdoor seating available. And service by efficient and very nice people.
google avatar

Eric S.

Yelp
Good lord, what a gem of a find. Try the quiche, the cheese cake with fruits, the muffins. Just point at something and grunt and it will be phenomenal. Anybody who says they don't make these places like they used to hasn't been here yet.
google avatar

Aaron B.

Yelp
Been to Golden Wheat about a dozen times. Their tamales (which I've had most often) are excellent, and prices on any item are hard to beat. This is a nice family owned, always super friendly service, cozy kind of spot. A good selection of treats, breads, cakes, I think pies, and other items. I've had their almond croissant a few times too, and think I'll head back in this morning for another!
google avatar

Nora S.

Yelp
Small bakery with a limited selection. It looks like they are geared more towards breads and less towards sweets (but they did have cookies, muffins etc). The breads looked delicious and fresh. They also sold day old bread at 50% discount. I was tempted but my husband only wanted to try the fresh stuff. Because we didn't want to buy too much bread, we decided to go with the plain baguette. It was good bread but not in the style of a French baguette. It didn't have the same body, flavor, or structure. (I have a hard time describing the differences). I still liked it, but wish we had tried the challah (which really looked good). We also took home a couple of the bagels. Again, these did not have the right texture/flavor to be a bagel. They tasted like...bread. Being fresh, they were still tasty but lacked that essential quality that distinguishes a bagel from a circular piece of bread. Service was very friendly so I'll give them three stars.
google avatar

Ron B.

Yelp
There is no place I'd rather be than here at 7:30am on a Sunday. This place is so good that I hesitate to tell anyone in fear of creating longer lines between myself and the food. 1 to 2 times a week, I come and grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the atmosphere while my 2 Mexican Burritos are made. I will also occasionally get a tamale. The sweets are perfect too. Whoever that little lady in the back is could be one of the best chef's in Seattle.
google avatar

Brace C.

Yelp
A growing favorite morning spot for me. Love the baked goods and have taken their cakes, pies and cheesecakes to gatherings and events. Love the window seating and the simpleness of the place. The family that runs it are always nice and welcoming.
google avatar

Tommy B.

Yelp
Authentic and AMAZING food. The tamales and burritos are both DELICIOUS, and the baked goods are all incredible as well. If you're looking for a sweet snack or a tasty meal, look no further.

Leanne N.

Yelp
Great bakery and one of my favorite spots to stop by for breakfast. Their tamales and almond croissant are deeeeelish! Not a fan of horchata, but tried their horchata latte just because and it was good! This place is such a close walk from my house, great way to spice up my morning.
