10 Spots for Bourbon Cocktails in and Around San Francisco | Eater

"It’s a bar, a restaurant, and a music venue — the newly-launched second location of Goldfield Trading Post is one of the most exciting destinations in Roseville. Paying homage to the region’s Gold Rush history, Goldfield has a laid-back charm and Wild West saloon appeal. It’s a place for indulgent bar food — Ahi Tuna Poke Wonton Nachos, or Mariachi Tacos with bacon-wrapped shrimp. Given their excellent tap list, opt for a boilermaker — a good pour of Bulleit Bourbon alongside a local pint like the Henhouse Incredible IPA." - Vox Creative

We stop here after Sacrament brewing, it’s next door. The decor is cool drinks are cool & they got live bands playing. It gets really loud in there if your into that vibe !

Google
I have never had the food and I only got one drink here - bartender was ok but it was BUSY. I have only been here twice for the concerts. Parking downtown kinda sucks but it's not the venues fault. Venus isn't hard to get into to. I have enjoyed both concerts but the layout is a bit weird - it's hard to explain but the music area can be very crowded and it can be difficult to get out if your lame like me and need to leave early because it's past your bed time. other than that the artists wer great and I'm glad there is a Venus that books them, sound was excellent, lighting was good. I wish there was more seating for old people like me.

Google
Came here for a concert and it was actually a great bar/venue! I've been to a few shows in places like this and this is by far the best I've been to. I didn't drink or eat so I can't say for those, but everyone seemed happy and it didn't reek of booze, which was nice for someone who doesn't drink and was only there for the show. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for more future shows here!

Google
Hands down a fantastic place to listen to live music at and have a beer. They support local artists and have really great sound engineers. My only gripe is the air conditioning feels inconsistently effective. Maybe its efficiency can vary making the space too large to successfully cool? I think the general staff is pleasant and patient though and seem to always be in a good mood.

Google
Was my first time at the Midtown location and wow it was claustrophobic. Way too narrow for a music venue (is this not a fire safety issue?). Band tried to start a mosh pit and there was almost no way to avoid it if you got trapped near it. The bar area is set up nicely though and they were nice, though not sure why they stop food at 9 when the bands weren't even done until almost 10:30. That's such a shame since the fries smelled amazing. I think I'll stick to the Roseville location from now on.

Google
I’ve been to three shows here so far and it’s a great place to see live music. The layout of the venue is admittedly kind of peculiar - there are three long rooms with the bar being the first, the stage room being the second, and the third being an additional room where I’ve seen bands set up their merch tables (not sure what else it might be used for). Overall, the stage room is a good size for an intimate show with a very cool old west style atmosphere. I’ve seen country, hip hop, and pop punk all played here and this place delivered for all three. I don’t drink but sodas are reasonably priced. Plenty of parking nearby and easy to find.

Google
Small venue for the concert, Moss, but it was really good. The air circulation was good for a small place. The sound system was great and loud but not hurting our ears. The bathroom was clean. The bartenders were nice. The wait for drinks was too long. Only 1 bartender during the concert break.

Google
Been here a couple of times now, and it is quickly becoming one of my fave places to catch a show! Staff and security are all stellar and the vibes are always high! 🤘😁🤘

Yelp
Stars based on experience came to see a Brother Ali show with hubby & was blown away! Ambiance is fitting for a shit kicker bar, however, vibes were still awesome. I don't expect to see super clean bathrooms, it's a bar folks, but staff was definitely welcoming & courteous pretty awesome to meet this amazing artist! My hubby has been listening to him for years so this was a treat. Paid for the VIP experience/meet & greet. Thank you to this establishment for hosting a real hiphop artist!

Yelp
I only come here because Ricky and and sable are amazing! They are so Friendly! The music is on point

Yelp
I came to support a friend that played in tge Fantastic Negrito. The place would be better if the knocked down that partial wall and just had it all opened.
google avatar

Laura R.

Yelp
Extremely small venue. The stage is slightly above knee level. Sound was good but I was at the stage so. You walk into the bar and on the right is the stage room and just beyond that is a small room where the merch was set up. The bar tenders were friendly and although I just had soda water and lime they did a great job. I will be back
google avatar

Brandon G.

Yelp
Great venue and even between drinks! Staff is extremely friendly, Sable made a phenomenal Old Fashion! We'll definitely be back!

Lili B.

Yelp
This bar has very rude staff. I was very excited to see a concert at this bar but had to leave early because the bouncer and staff were extremely rude to me and my friends. I would not recommend this place unless you like horrible customer service and disrespectful workers.
google avatar

Fran V.

Yelp
Nicely kept, intimate venue (300 person biz capacity) for watching a concert. There is an adjacent public parking lot or pay-per-hour street parking. They do serve some food on the bar side of the business. I didn't try any food or drink, but had I known there was food and had the time, it would have been convenient to grab something before the concert. There was a Target across the street which was helpful to grab an energy bar to get me by! From a safety perspective, because that's how I think, there was multiple ways out of the venue, if needed. I would definitely catch a show here again, but it would be better to be able to stay the night and grab some food and drink!

Yelp
Cool spot to go to if you're not brown!!! My friends and I waited for what seemed like forever because no bartender or worker would even acknowledge us. A lot of folks that came AFTER us were attended right away, and when we finally were attended the bartender had a nasty attitude & kept rolling her eyes at us. Mind you, despite us being irritated we were still very polite. Unless you love being ignored and discriminated against, I suggest you do not go to this lousy place.
google avatar

Olivia S.

Yelp
Came here to see Odie Leigh this summer and loved this as a concert space!! Perfect for a smaller group and the acoustics were perfect for her music!!

e m.

Yelp
Fun place but the wait staff doesn't clean up leftover food/trays. The seating is first come first serve, if you leave your seat it may be taken which is expected if you leave it open, but no one wants to sit with someone else's food stuff.

Yelp
Saturday night, BIG fight night and opportunity to bring in a packed house of UFC fight fans...called in and was told they are playing karaoke..nuff said. Decent food, beer selections, tons of TV's for a sports bar feel, great staff, new ownership..and karaoke over UFC on a Saturday. :/

Yelp
If yelp had zero star reviews I would give this place a zero. The bouncer was super rude for no reason, my cousin nicely asked if there's a cover tonight. The main bouncer said "no" and his rude ass friend next to him said "of course there's a fee, do you not see the f*cking show" we were shocked and walked away and he kept mocking us as we walked away. We were going to go in to have a good time but this place lost 8 people going in on a slow day. Never coming back to this stupid bar again. There's other fun country themed bars around that don't have A hole people out in front.

Kayla G.

Yelp
The workers here are very unprofessional. There were two girls arguing and screaming at each other throughout their shift about nonsense. It was giving high school. Tacos were also not good.

Yelp
So recently, I've been going out a lot more than before, and I found a great joy hanging out here at Goldfields, the staff is a notch above most. Aside from being beautiful, there's nothing ditzy about these blondes. I never wait long for a beer at. Goldfields. Tori and Sable are so attentive. They really make me feel at home , make me feel important, and I observe them doing the same for everyone else who comes in. The music is great, live bands many nights of the week, and the covers change is never too bad on nights there is a cover.

Yelp
I've been trying to get my money back from a show that was cancelled. Nobody answers emails or the phone. I'm driving up next week to the venue to talk to someone 2 hours of driving

Yelp
Love this bar. Strong cocktails. Good company. The bartender, Sable, held great conversation and was slanging drinks to a crowded bar... multi-tasker. She's legit. Stop by if you're in Sacramento!
google avatar

Jameslbarth ..

Yelp
Sable was the best server ever!!!!!!! Sweetest ascent and so helpful. Come on down ya'll.

Yelp
Stopped by after a long drive to this very awesome spot. Right next to the Sacramento Memorial auditorium, this spot has friendly service and a saloon vibe. Shout out Sable for being so kind and welcoming. This establishment, apparently, hosts many reputable musical talents regularly. Must recommend if you are in the area.

Yelp
Racist establishment, no exaggeration. I Walked and the "manager" asked "Can I help you with something?" As if I was in the wrong place. Not "can I get you a water or drink, do you need to see a menu?" I then was asked for ID to order tacos Togo. Then the "manager" said he wouldn't serve me without ID. Went to go get my ID & was told he was wouldn't serve me security was told to escort me out .. for absolutely no reason other than me being a black women. Im a bartender as well and WOULD NEVER make a potential future customer or tipper feel this way. All the staff did nothing. Everyone has this nasty ass attitude. The way they look at you when you walk in makes you wanna walk right tf out. Will never be back in there. They need to be closed

Amara S.

Yelp
The venue is small and cozy. It was easy to get in and get the service was great all night. On the left is the bar that serves food as well which is great! My friend and I ordered the large quesadilla, and it was delicious....and huge! There are small booths on both sides of the bar and music area. The show was very fun to watch on the right side of the venue. Only downfall it is very loud to the point where I had temporary hearing loss for two days. I highly suggest going here, but don't forget to bring earplugs with you.

Yelp
First time here and bartenders were terrible.. my friends and I were all waiting to get drinks but they would just skip right by us and pretend not to see. Finally we were able to get the attention of one of them, and as he served us he made a snarky comment to one of us. Also received looks from a lot of people as we tried to have a good night dancing. Usually I'm not the type of person to let stuff like that ruin my night, but definitely was an uncomfortable feeling. If your a person of color, I don't recommend spending your time here.

Yelp
Great atmosphere drink prices are good. I loved the vibe. I would most definitely go again. Easy to find parking as well

Yelp
Great spot to catch a concert and some food and drinks! I recently went here for a concert and love how small the venue is- it creates an intimate atmosphere and really makes any spot on the concert side a great spot to view the bands. It's pretty easy to order a drink then walk to the middle part of the bar to watch a concert, the bar and stage area are side by side. They also have a nice space carved out for merch booths so you can grab a tour t-shirt and sometimes talk to the bands. I had eaten before the concert, but in the past, I've tried Flako's Tacos and they were scrumptious and I think there is now an assortment of chicken dishes to order as well. They've been bulking up their concert offerings and have a nice slate of artists on tap. If you're a live music fan, it's on par to Holy Diver. Cheers!

Yelp
Great venue. Came out to see a show here. Paid for tickets and not disappointed in the sound or venue from a music perspective. The service however... I have never seen a lazier more horrendous and obtuse bartender. Complained about being short staffed, yet got help from all over. Talked to her friends and on her phone and refused to serve 90% of the bar. When she got around to it she picked who she wanted. An older lady made a comment that she was next not the person the bar tender went to and the bartender went on a 5 minute tirade. Witnessed this with another man a few minutes later and again another lady. Treated us like crap, complained and refused to get us drinks until we told her how much we would tip for 5 drinks. Pathetic place from that perspective. Sad really. Could be great. But your bartender will ruin you!

Yelp
A pretty cool spot to see a show! I visited Goldfield on a Saturday for the first night of a beloved band's tour. It's really nice to have a live music venue in such an accessible spot. Parking near places like Ace of Spades can be challenging but navigating in and out of this neighborhood was super easy. The space is divided into three rooms - you enter into the main bar area with stools and tables, and then head to the right to get to the stage space, and continue right to get to a smaller bar and table space, and where that night the merch was. Bathrooms are located in the rooms with the bars - the far right room's bathrooms seemed to be a secret as I never had to wait. So perhaps, pro tip! Upsides - seeing a band you love at a small venue is always a blast! To be so close was a lot of fun, and it really gave the artists the chance to interact with the crowd. The sound was wonderful as well, for being so close it never got painful, and it filled the room beautifully. Full marks there! Downsides - the staff just isn't pleasant to interact with. Folks at the door checking tickets and vax stuff - unnecessarily abrupt and condescending (you have people walking in to have a fun night - whether you like it or not your behavior is part of a patron's experience). Bartender wasn't very friendly either - she just kept making awkward eye contact with me until finally she decided it was my turn. I know a solo drink order isn't gonna be a big tip compared to large groups, but I can't help that. I also ordered a double and she poured it into a pint glass. Who knows if she misunderstood my order or they insist on watering your order down. For $18 I would have preferred to taste the whiskey and not the soda. Would I come back here for a show? Most definitely! Will I pregame instead so staff interaction is minimal? Most likely.

Sadia A.

Yelp
Oh my gosh! I wanted to LOVE this place. First of all, BOTH of the blonde female bartenders will NOT give you service if you're a pretty girl. I'm not saying I'm everyone's cup of tea, but these girls would never give me service at the bar. I waited for 20 minutes and had to ASK for a drink after she walked past me multiple times. I just want to have a good time. If you're a 8+/10 DONT COME HERE. The bartenders are hating ass girls, and I say this in the humblest way because I'm not even all that. Just save yourself the trip, they want decently cut dude with heavy pockets in here.

Yelp
Straight up, I'm not a grid dweller - therefore, there are a lot of holes in my grid knowledge. I venture down from time-to-time and usually enjoy the experience - but when I do, it's directly to a pre-planned destination... a "get in and get out" approach that seems pretty common with my non-grid friends. Until recently, I didn't know about Goldfield and therefore it was never the target of any of my get in and get out missions. Until... Taco Mafia. I give full credit to Taco Mafia for bringing me here. I've crossed paths with Jenn Brian several times over the last couple of years - we have a common friends and I've been lucky enough to get invited to a couple of her movies and so on. Some time in the past year, she started talking about this "Taco Mafia" thing and, well, duh - I like a good taco! And I like fun! And this Taco Mafia thing looked like it would deliver both! And it did. I've been on a taco binge recently - as I write, I'm on a five night taco eating streak at five different locations. Goldfield was night #4, and I've got to say their tacos were among the best. I'll admit it took me a little bit to get my order in. They were busy! I was hungry! The bar was completely packed... no place to squeeze in without force, so I did an end-around and hit one of the open ends of the bar. A little persistence paid off, and my order was rolling AND I had a margarita in hand. Once I got the order in, the food didn't take long at all to appear (and subsequently disappear). I had some crunchy tacos and the quesapizza - both were creative and tasty! After fueling up - I followed the music back to where the action was (where most of the Taco Mafia people were hanging out). They had a very capable DJ - the sound quality and music choices were good for dancing and quite a few were dancing - lots of fun and mingling! Working those tacos off! I had a great time - will very likely be back - especially on a Taco Mafia night. Fun group and looking forward to getting to know more of them.

Yelp
Sabel is super duper gggrrrrreeeeaaattttt!!!! So is the rest of the staff! Yay!!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
Love this spot! As a small town gal living in the city I love that they always have country music playing & a laid back vibe. When it's not busy they're dog friendly & so kind with the pups! Sable is my favorite bartender- so sweet & fun! Also love the live music they have here. Great place to dance!

Logan N.

Yelp
Great times with good service from Sable and Tori. They have great street tacos and a taco tuesday special!

Yelp
Wandered in to find a place that had our BB game on. An extremely helpful bartender found it on the Satellite and away we go! Great old time bar and rustic feel. Loved the stuffed mascots on the wall. Glad it was a slow Saturday so it wasn't packed, but it looks like it would be a popular place to hang at night. They feature food from 2 street vendors so we opted in for some of the tacos and sides. They are more than affordable, and quite filling. Both soft and crunchy tacos with steak and chicken were terrific (they also have several pork options). The spicy salsa was just the right amount of heat while accentuating the flavors of the meats. The Guac was a surprise, plentiful and tasty too. As mentioned, the barkeep was really outstanding and made the visit terrific Be sure to ask for Charlene!

Evelyn R.

Yelp
Shoutout to the ticket guy who works weekdays he's cool. Tuesday night bartenders didn't give a shite about helping us though
google avatar

Bret S.

Yelp
Not a good place to see a show. The room is narrow and deep, and the stage not raised high enough. I was in the very back of the room and the tall guys in the middle blocked the view of the performer's mouth. I didn't order food or drinks so can't comment on that.

Troy S.

Yelp
I went to the venue "Gimme Gimme Disco" which was held here on Saturday (05/25/2024). I was a little bit nervous about this venue. It's very interesting that they do have a dance floor on the right side of the bar part. The DJ was 30 minutes late, but she was nice enough to play for a full 4 hours which is better than the simple 3 hours most DJ's play with Gimme Gimme Disco. They have a casual attitude with dress code (even shorts are allowed). The security was very friendly. The music played all night long kept the floor packed. I was sweltering until the end of the music. If Gimme Gimme Disco returns when I am off from work, I will come back to this venue with no problem. I flew in for the weekend. It was worth my weekend. I was very pleased. The floor is wooden too which helps if you are wearing leather shoes.

Kim D.

Yelp
My recent encounter (Sat 9/23/2023) with a bouncer at this bar was deeply distressing. I was assaulted and the use of force was excessive, leaving me shaken, appalled and red marks on my forearms from pushing me as hard as he could. Such incidents tarnish the reputation of otherwise enjoyable venues, and I sincerely hope, that whoever was manning the front door in a white cowboy hat (hispanic man) no taller than 5'10, fires this man for violence. I am a 53 year old woman, never in my life been treated like this. HORRIBLE.
google avatar

J S.

Yelp
Worst bartenders anywhere Went on a recent evening when a friend's band was playing, bartenders spent more time talking to each other Than doing what they are paid to do , don't understand how owners of such establishments hire these lazy people , they clearly are not helping such establishment make any money but doing their best to discourage customers from ever returning

Debbie S.

Yelp
I seriously regret traveling to this venue to see a favorite band. The sound is not good here. It was way way too loud. Could not enjoy the music due to the excessive volume- even with earplugs. The sound guy must be hard of hearing. Ouch! The worst!

Jason I.

Yelp
Great small music venue. Looks like they are getting ready to expand into the business next door at some point. Nice and close to all the restaurants, breweries and hotels.
google avatar

Erick Y.

Yelp
Could have more seating for music or more open space. Wished I could have watched the band I was there to watch but there was no room.
google avatar

Matt J.

Yelp
Just when I thought Nate from Euphoria was the most toxic person in the world, the crew at Goldfield decided to take the crown. We went in on a not very busy night to play some Big Buck and the machine wasn't working. I was looking behind it to see if there was an obvious plug missing and the bouncer quickly asserted his dominance by saying, "don't mess with things you don't own." Fair enough. We then asked him if he could help us and he replied, "not my problem" and walked away. Class act all the way. I haven't been here in years and I thought maybe they had changed. Nope. Awful bar with even worse people working there. I wouldn't send my worst enemies here. Must miss on all fronts.
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
Bartender Tory was great, friendly , witty, pours a good drink. The Place is definitely lively, even on a Sunday it was busy. There for a show and the venue side had great acoustics. Would come back again
google avatar

Allison P.

Yelp
We decided to give this place a visit seeing a talented musician & his band last Saturday night. Not very friendly at the front door. We are obviously way past 21 and had a senior citizen among us. It was an ALL AGES show. They still carded us & the security guy was coughing all over our ids. I guess we should be flattered??? Place isn't built well for sound & it was way too loud. Then afterwards we were trying to exit and the amount of people there clearly exceeded the room capacity because we actually got stuck, can you say "mooooo", now we know what cattle feel like at a "meat market"! They obviously aren't concerned with the hazards of having too many people inside & being safe. No other egress in sight or accessible to their patrons... clearly a disaster waiting to happen! Be wary of this kind of place. We didn't get to have any food or drinks other than some water so no chance to comment about that. Disappointing overall experience because I was hoping for a better music venue & place to go out and get some country on.

Yelp
Went there one day and tried to ordered food. Took 5 mins to bill my transactions. Within those minutes the guy Next to me got just came in the bar and she took his order first. If your a colored person I don't recommend going here. Environment made me very uncomfortable. This isn't first time this kind of service happen. This will be the last time I'm going there.
google avatar

Trish A.

Yelp
This is my second time coming to Goldfield after work with a great group of people. The first time, four months ago, we had beverages and appetizers and things seemed good. Unfortunately during this visit after Dani, our initial server who was AWESOME left and Shay began her shift, things went downhill. With Shay we had ZERO and I MEAN ZERO service. She never once came over to ask what we needed. Needless to say appetizers were never ordered She was however VERY adapt at sitting on her stool, eating her salad and spending time on her phone. Please see photo. I hope the MANAGEMENT wises up and begins to retain people like Dani who provide customer service because Shay certainly is not. Having to yell across the bar to get your sever's attention and ask for another drink or your bill is UNACCEPTABLE!

Yelp
Ok so I've heard this place was ok from friends. Went here for a Disney themed rave. I was excited I had been to a shrek rave a few months prior with my friend at ace of spades. We arrive at 8 when the event said it started. For about 45 mins nothing happened, someone asked why they hadn't started, they said they "aren't ready" well they should of made it more convincing because their set up was already on the stage. This is more likely the fault of the event as opposed to the bar but still I wish the bar/event had communicated better. While we waited for them to start my friend and I went to the bar to grab a drink. She got a soda and I got a Moscow mule. The bartender said $10 minimum, implying each drink on their own didn't meet the minimum, ok no problem we will just combine our transaction to meet the minimum. I tell the bartender I want to combine our totals. My friend hands her a $5 and I hand her my card. I guess she got confused she gave change to my friend, charged her the amount of her drink and then charged me $12 for my drink ok cool I guess, not really though. Overall my experience with the bar was mid, people also didn't greet us at the door and overall got a bad experience from this place.

Yelp
Just came from out of town to this bar for an event. I came and saw a group of people ahead of me and told the bartender to take them and I could wait aince there were less than a handful of people. I did and that and that was my first mistake. After being ignored for 20 mins I got his attention when there was no one at the bar. He was more concerned about the other groups shots drinks/cards on tap and his pictures he was taking with other Co workers and guests. He finally came around and asked me for me for my drink and I asked for a ginger whiskey. Another 10 mins of socializing and pics He came back looking at me and I said that I haven't gotten my drink yet. He laughed as he realized he did even serve me. I paid cash and he didn't give me change or a receipt. I walked up to him after finishing my drink and ask for both to which he was offended and told me I was being rude and proceeded to say he was escorting me out. Being a guest out of town and first time visitor I would say that this place lacked common courtesy and situational awareness. The bartender felt offended when he provided less than stellar service. I have never been walked out or kicked out for asking for a receipt or my change. Definitely a place to avoid!

Roxy W.

Yelp
I attended a music show, house sound okay. In my opinion, too much bass, almost as if "speakers blown" & vocals were not turned up loud enough. I was highly irritated that my first 2 drinks were $8 for 20oz glass, 3rd drink cost $9 it came in an 8oz plastic cup. Overpriced, all exact same cider. I hope they figure out how to answer a business phone or attain working email addresses, communication within, is terrible.

Alec K.

Yelp
Dj isn't good at all but they seem to want the same guy. Place won't get better until they get a real country dj. If you see the dj with a white cowboy hat... run. The guy is terrible on aux. half the time people are just sitting around the dance floor while this guy jerks himself off

Yelp
Just like most of these comments, the bartenders lack the social etiquette/common human decency when working in a place where part of the job is where you actually have to be attentive to customers.. My husband and I stood at the bar for about 30 min until finally the bartnender asked us "do you want anything?" ...this was ONLY after we had to wave a bartender down to get our drink order as we were being skipped left and right.... The comments of the employees being racist...theres def some truth to that. There is $10 cover which is not worth it unless you're desperate to meet people. I'd give this one star but one of the bartenders located in the backroom of the place was super sweet and attentive! Thanks Sable! I think the other bartenders can learn from her.
