Goldsborough Hall

"A pretty village plays host to this grand, 16C country house which is surrounded by delightful grounds. There might be a classically formal feel to the place but not when it comes to the food. Modern, French-based dishes are eye-catching, well-balanced and full of bold flavours, with a good mix of classic and contemporary techniques showcasing the skill of the team. Go for the tasting menu with accompanying wine pairings." - Michelin Inspector

Afternoon tea gifted by my daughter. What a lovely place. Arrived at lunchtime, had coffee and strolled around the beautiful gardens until 3pm when we partook of afternoon tea in the garden room and terrace. Everything ( including the weather) was excellent.

We arrived and was greeted by Alison who showed us to our room which was large, pleasent with garden views.|First impressions were good but it's a little dated and the mattress, pillows and bedding weren't great. |It's a little dusty and there were cobwebs in places. |Putting clean towels on a dirty dusty radiator that's not been cleaned for some time is not good housekeeping and the tops of the radiators near the window were really bad. The TV is old, the picture wasn't HD plus there's not one USB charging port anywwhere in the room.|The gardens are beautiful and well kept.|The tasting menu was delicious and the service exceptional.|We always look forward to breakfast and it started out well.|The coffee was a bit weak but ok. We ordered two yorkshire breakfasts which seemed to take a long time but on arrival they looked amazing. Two poached eggs, two bacon, sausage, black pudding, mushroom, a tomato and beans. Unfortunately one of my eggs was undercooked and ran into the whole plate so I asked for a fresh plate to transfer my other items onto but instead she took my plate away. My plate was returned with half a mushroom, half the black pudding, a tiny bit of bacon and some beans. It was missing any eggs tomato or sausage. I sat for ten minutes with this plate going cold before she came back with a sausage and two eggs when I said I only wanted one and still no tomato. By this time all the food in front of me was cold and my husband had finished his breakfast. Such fantastic service and food the previous evening and shockingly bad service and communication at breakfast. I did complain and they knocked off the gratuities but this is unacceptable service for a 4 star hotel. We will not be returning.||

What a stunning place, with beautiful grounds, gardens and woodland walks. It was so quiet and peaceful. |The evening meal was the best food I've ever had and they accommodated me as a vegetarian. Drinks were also lovely with a large choice. Breakfast was also fantastic. Staff were all so nice. ||Was a little disappointed with the room. I asked for twin beds in advance, but was told the room was a double only. The bed was a double bed, quite small and uncomfortable. I woke with a backache. There was no dressing table to sit at to do makeup and hair. |The room was not in the main hall, it was in a different building. On a positive note, it had doors which opened out onto a little terrace with lovely views. ||

Love this place. We stayed for one night and had the Royal Taster Menu in the evening. Food was absolutely exceptional, the staff were so friendly and we all had the best time. Highly recommended !||The room was great and we had our own space with wooden garden furniture outside the french doors, weather was good so we could sit outside with a gin and tonic ..||a very welcoming place to stay

We visited via Yorkshire Food guide offer - tasting menu, prosecco and B&B.|House is stunning and the ambience very good quality.|Beautifully decorated and gardens are worth a walk around too.|Friendly but appropriate service.|Room spacious, lovely views and very clean. 2 sizes of bathrobes in the room, which is good.|Food was very good, £32 for a bottle of wine, which was reasonable in the setting. Service very good, and they add a service charge on to the bill. I had to ask about this, to ensure, servers were rewarded.|Had to ask for the prosecco but was able to take up to the room, so a bonus.|The only reason I gave this a 4, was the breakfast. It just wasnt' quite there, the beans weren't the hottest and although produce was obviously good quality, esp black pudding, it just missed something.|However, will consider revisiting and have already recommended.

Lovely stay here, had an amazing tasting menu with wine pairings from different countries that I wouldn't have thought of trying (Poland, Georgia, Austria etc). As I said in feedback would be good to know cats live in the property (we are allergic to cats) and the service gratuity fee was higher than expected... I think they added in the cost of our voucher as well as the additional drinks/ food that we had... Just something to be mindful of.

We had a fantastic overnight stay which was a wedding gift. From the moment we arrived we loved every minute. The staff are wonderful and the hotel and grounds fabulous. We were in the Hanson suite which was simply superb and had biggest bed I've seen. We had the tasting menu and every course was delicious and beautifully presented. As good as any Michelin meal we gave ever had. Would love to return one day and the spring saver deal is definitely worth it.

Had the tasting menu today (Sunday lunch 21/4/24). The food was absolutely wonderful, with the bread it was six courses, all of which were so tasty and beautiful to look at. This is only £50 per head. We’ve had top Michelin food and this is equal to many meals we’ve paid three or four times the price. The service was professional and friendly and the gardens/grounds are spectacular. Really enjoyed our visit, will definitely be coming again.
