I purchased a heart shaped vanilla cake with Oreo filling and it was delicious. I got this cake for my friend’s birthday and she was really impressed and satisfied. 10/10 must try again!

Google
Just got my daughter birthday cake and it is not what I asked for at all. Why did they only decorate half of the cake?? I paid $160 for this cake and I’m so upset. This looks horrible and nothing like the picture we drew up at the consult. They need to stick to selling pastelitos. Don’t recommend getting a cake from here Edit- now that the party is done, the cake was delicious to be fair but it definitely was t what I had explained or pictured. Probably won’t order another cake from here again.

Google
This bakery was initially inviting and affordable but turned out to be unprofessional. If you buy more than 1 tier the cake is given to you unboxed. With no warning or attempt to please the customer. The design was not smooth. More than a few flaws. I would not recommend them to know one.

Yusmilka R.

Google
I went to buy a birthday cake for my daughter's birthday cake, it was delicious. All my friends who eat the cake, including myself, my daughter, my mom, etc love the cake. I really recommend this bakery to buy a birthday cake here. 🎂 I love it. The best! Lo mejor!

Google
Pre-ordered and paid up front a carrot cake in advance for a birthday on Tuesday. Given that it was ordered days in advance, one would think that it would be freshly baked. Instead, we got a tasteless, burnt, dense, dry cake with whole walnuts that can take your jar away. Doesn't taste at all like a carrot or not even a spice cake. The icing smells like gas, carbon, or something( maybe from the display fridge. What a disappointment! Never again! Wasted $40.00 and gas.

Google
Called over the phone to order in advance and the lady taking my order was very kind and made a note of all my requests. Not to mention the cake was an affordable price. The day to pickup the cake comes and I call again to ask to pick it up early and they said it would be fine, which I really appreciated. We got there and the man working the counter was very kind and helpful. Everyone loved the cake and said it was delicious. Thank you Gondres Bakery for making my girlfriend’s birthday amazing!!

Google
Went for a quick empanada. Crust was delicious, good price.

Yelp
Location right on the corner. I could tell the place has regulars, including my family member, who raved about their coffee! Coffee is absolutely delicious!! I should have gotten a Large. Breakfast items were ordered for our family. Service with a smile- I enjoyed the order process. Bakery in one section of the place. We did not order sweets, but next time I go, I anticipate ordering cake. Cheers!~

Yelp
" Mango smoothie & smoothies in general delicious " Of course I had the flan ; delicious. Then I tried today the mango smoothie and my husband had the strawberry smoothie. It was just delicious. They make it fresh in the back . So you have too wait a few minutes; no issues it's well worth it . Parking is manageable. They also maje cakes to order . However they do have cakes on site . Go and give this palace ; a try if you haven't .

Yelp

Yelp
I have been coming to this bakery for a while now but never thought of making a review until Today. The bakery is located in Jamaica Plain on Centre Street, corner of gay head. The bakery is relatively small but has an open feel. When you walk in your greeted by the staff, can I help etc. The lady at &the counter was polite but a little ticked off due to not being able to move around like she wanted. I order the pastellitos or empanadas and a Arepa, all were good and tasted authentic to the Dominican cuisine. If you want something sweet or are looking for Dominican pastries, eat here.

Yelp
Craving a good, no wait, a great empanada? Yes! And you don't want to travel too far out? Yes! Well, don't worry, Gondres bakery's got you! Oh. My. God. Those chicken empanadas are THE best I've ever had. The outside covering is crisp, not oily, and lightly seasoned. When you reach the centre, the chicken is shredded (yay, I've tried empanadas at a LOT of places, some add diced pieces of chicken and that just doesn't cut it), full of flavorful spices! Add to it a dash of Jamaican hot sauce which they have on their counter. It may singe your mouth but it'll take you to a different level of deliciousness. Every bite just melts in your mouth. We started with one empanada each, and now we buy over half a dozen every time we head out to Gondres! And did I mention, they're a dollar each?! Apart from the empanadas, we've tried the sweet arepa, and guava and cheese pastelito. All good! These make up our standing order. How I wish they delivered. But for now, I'm going to dream about the days when I eat them empanadas, haha.

Yelp
I ordered a bruins cake for my son's birthday. The cake was cute and delicious. I ordered a 2lb. cake with pineapple filling, which generously served about 25 people. I took off one star because the yellow frosting wasn't as golden as it should have been and the bruins logo had yellow frosting around the border, which I didn't ask for. Otherwise, the cake was moist, delicious and well made.

Yelp
I love this bakery so much! The staff is always very kind, anything you buy from them is delicious! Must try: Pineapple cake

Yelp
This place needs more love! A few weeks ago I picked up a pre-made chocolate cake for my boyfriend's birthday and he loved it. We literally ate the whole 12'' cake in a matter of days. Oops. Since then we've come by to sample sweet and savory pastries, and we love EVERYTHING. It's all so fresh and made with care. Even with inflation, prices are low. The employees are very friendly too. It's obvious most people who come in are regulars. Mask is also required inside at this time. Highly recommend!!!!

Yelp
Oh my goodness what can I say about this Bakery! Words cannot even describe how incredible and talented these individuals are. Here they have, in my opinion, Fairy God Mother's! (Hadas madrinas) They make anything you want. You tell then the idea of the size, color, style even design....they will make it happen. Miracle workers here! This was my daughter's 13th birthday cake and look how incredible this masterpiece came out. From the moment I picked it up, I was blown away. The details and just utter gorgeousness of this cake, I didn't even want to cut it or eat it by the end of the evening. I placed in my order a few days ahead of schedule (4 days in advance) and so when the day came it was ready for pick up. As you can see, the color matched my decorations at home as it brought everything together. The stars of the evening was my daughter and the cake. On the inside, oh my goodness, sooooo delicious and so moist. NOT DRY AT ALL!!! I'm telling you it was that good. This was a vanilla cake with strawberry filling....so so good. They have other kinds of fillings and so you're not limited to just strawberry but for me I know my daughter loved it. A BIG THANK YOU to Gondres Bakery! You made my princess so happy and even myself. All of my guests were blown away and so Without you all this couldn't happen the way I wanted to. This was, Perfecto en todos los sentidos, ya que estoy impresionado pero muy feliz con el resultado final. Mil Gracias! Anyone looking for a place to come get an amazing, gorgeous, custom cake at a great price. Please come here!!! You will not be disappointed

Yelp
I am disappointed to say the least, my husband and I went into this shop to order a beautiful rose gold cake with drip decor and flowers on the top of the cake. We specifically asked for them to add edible flowers and a beautiful drip. This was far from that. The cakes drip leaked to the bottom of the cake and it looks absolutely terrible. I asked for flowers to be placed on the top and instead I get a pile of whipped cream... I'm not sure whether they were rushing to close or rushing on the cake but it DEFINITELY was not worth $85! On their instagram page, it looked as if they made good looking cakes but it did not prevail. The cake looked so bad I was even embarrassed to bring it to the actual event... like I can't even put into words how disappointed I am with this cake...this cake was far from a good looking cake & I will NEVER be ordering from Gondres ever again. I am extremely disappointed as I have been a loyal customer for years. I hope the pastelitos I ordered as well aren't as terrible as this cake. We ordered this cake TUESDAY so there was PLENTY of time to make it and if not they could have told us that instead of delivering a horrible looking cake... beyond disappointed and now I am left with an absolutely ridiculous cake that was rushed and leaning off to one side. It was NOT leveled and had a mounted top and was ready to slide off onto one side any second. We had to go to target and buy icing to ADD the trim at the bottom as it looked so messy.

Yelp
Inexpensive but delicious bakery. They really care about their customers. They make custom items and put a lot of thought and attention into each item.

Mayra S.

Yelp
My family has been coming here for a couple years now. The best Dominican pineapple cake I've found since the place I used to go in Lynn closed due to COVID. So far, we have been very pleased with their decorations and overall service. Price is a bit high but for a special occasion I guess it's worth spending on a nicely decorated cake.

Allie S.

Yelp
Great Dominican bakery in Jamaica Plain. They have a nice selection of cakes/desserts and empanadas. I tried their dulce de coco and quesito and both were wonderful. Staff is friendly and attentive. I would definitely try more of their options if I lived nearby.

Yelp
Went in on a Saturday morning for some quick treats and was greeted by a friendly guy behind the counter. I got a slice of the pineapple cake, tres leche, flan and a beef empanada which were all pretty good. Also had a coffee- Im an iced coffee gal but they only serve hot (no flavors) though he said he could try to make an iced but it would likely be too watery. I appreciated the honesty and the offer of attempting. I definitely will be back to try other things on the menu!

Yelp
Ordered my son's 16th birthday cake. I went in the day before asking if they would be able to make a simple, small cake for the next day. The kid was very nice and said he would be able to do it. I wanted "Happy Birthday J Stay Fresh". I told him I will pick it up at 6pm the next day..giving them time to do other orders. Next day comes..I arrive at 6:10pm to pick up the cake. First and foremost their customer service sucks. You will stand there in front of the register and the employees will come from in and out the back and will look you dead in the eyes and won't even ask if you're all set or if they can help you. I stood there for about 5 minutes until finally someone acknowledged me. I told the woman I was here to pick up a cake. She brings out the cake..and the writing on the cake was absolutely terrible and crooked. "Stay Fresh" wasn't even written on there like I asked. I inquired with the woman why wasn't "stay fresh" written on there and she tried to tell me that it wasn't on the order and I had to point to her it was on the receipt. She catches an attitude because I had called her out on the error and she went and had someone write it on there quickly. I wasn't happy with the cake at all but I had to rush to make it on time for my son's bday dinner. Fast forward..I arrive to the dinner..we ate, sing happy birthday and then he cut the cake. When my son cut into the cake you could tell the cake was DRY AS HELL. There was NO MOISTURE to the cake whatsoever!! I will never ever order a cake from them ever again.

Yelp
I rarely give 5 Stars. and 5 stars does not mean perfection. It means that the essential parts of running that business were done Right. I'll start off with Service: The man I called who helped me understand their in person covid safety status was not only helpful, but quite a gentleman. He convinced me to come in even though I am very picky about where I enter in enclosed spaces these days, for obvious reasons. The line was short, and it gave me a chance to see how the owners interacted with all of their customers. I was waiting to purchase some empanadas for a friend I wanted to bless. Once I was up, the gentleman offered the smile I sense over the phone. He already knew who I was and got my name right. And this is something I Really Love - is when I ask.. " hey. I want to gift a friend. can you rec a bunch of your favorites/customer favs for me please?" And he smiles and starts putting together a lovely package for my friend. I hint that Id like some too. And he puts a few of his favs inside for me in a separate bag. And when he told me the total bill, I was actually quite happily surprised. (maybe because I had recently gone to Third Cliff Bakery/also quality, but very diff price range) And before I even thought it, he asked if I wanted hot sauce. My big smile told him YES. but then.. (my korean mom heart melted) when I saw him grab a HUGE wad of napkins for a family of 8 into my order for one friend (and me). As I leave, he smiles and gently yells, "Have a truly blessed day!" Need I say more. But I must. the empanadas and other items I (shamefully do not know the names of) were AMAzing. Look, Im not used to this type of food. I eat mainly traditional Korean. But I know good food made with love when I taste it. My 6 yr old kid approves it in case you are a parent. Fried but not greasy. Hearty/filling at a great price. THIS and a strong cup of properly french pressed coffee makes my morning. Maybe even day. (his kind smile, that is)

Yelp
This bakery has an unassuming entrance that would be easy to miss, if it weren't for the constant stream of people coming in and out! I popped in on a Thursday afternoon on a whim and was bowled over by the delicious-looking options in the cases, atop the counters, and on the chalkboard menus. Ended up ordering a dulce de leche cortada (curdled milk dessert), a flan, and a slice of pineapple cake. Everything was both to-die-for rich and tasty, and a smidge too sweet for my tastes (but I was born and raised on Asian desserts which are notoriously un-sweet). I loved the flan but it was so rich (I think they use lots of yolks?) that I couldn't take more than a few bites in a sitting. The cortada was interesting! I've never had that dessert before, and in fact I ordered it without knowing what it was--the curdled milk texture is a little squeaky and crumbly, but it's for sure tasty and a little spicy from the cinnamon, so it's not one-note. The cake was probably my favorite: moist and full of real pineapple flavor. Loved this place. Will be back when I need my sugar fix! Service was friendly; most people (patrons included) seemed to speak Spanish but despite my language deficiencies, they were super kind. Prices are more than fair as well. $9 for the above 3 things.

Yelp
Five stars for sure. Timely, beautiful work, and helpful staff. Highly recommend for your event needs.

Yelp
I love this bakery! They are so good at what they do - gorgeous cakes and yummy Latin treats like pasteles de guayaba, tres leches, dulce de coco, and more. If you are here, you must go in and try one of the delicious desserts. They also have empanadas and tacquitos if you want something savory, and coffee as well. The people who work here are super nice - Gondres Bakery is definitely a neighborhood gem!

Yelp
I realllllly hate to do this because the pastries here are so good and the owner is really friendly. I ordered a small chocolate cake on a whim over the phone. I asked for the smallest chocolate cake with blue lettering. I go to pick up the cake and the lady working there asked me if I ordered a vanilla cake with chocolate frosting. I told her I did not but at this point it was too late so I just took it. I feel like she knew that they messed up since my receipt said chocolate on it. My receipt also had my telephone number on it so why not call me to tell me that you couldn't make a chocolate cake, which is what I paid for?? I came home and noticed that the cake had the meringue frosting on it, which I was surprised by given that the slices of cake that I normally buy from there have a different frosting on it that's more consistent with American cakes (I'm Dominican FYI so no hate). Nobody asked me what kind of frosting I wanted and I just assumed that I'd get what they normally have in their cake case. When the cake was finally cut, I obviously was upset that it was not chocolate and had minimal chocolate frosting inside. It instead had layers of vanilla and was soooo dry. The lady working there did not even apologize for messing up the order and just said that the girl who took my order was told that there wasn't any chocolate cake. Okay? Honestly, the pastries here are great. If you order a cake, it would probably be best for you to do it in person and hope that they don't mess up your order. So disappointed.

Yelp
Very busy bakery ! Their bakery items are really good ! The owner is very nice and knowledgeable. She will accommodate and she's the one who always takes my cake orders . It's a bit far from me but I make the drive their it's a good bakery. Similar cakes to the ones they have in my home country
google avatar

Yelp
Cute little bakery with more than just baked goods to offer! As soon as you walk in, your quickly greeted by whomever is working that day. I've been getting the tres leches cake for over 3 years for parties because it's the one thing my friends go crazy over!

Yelp
The fruit juices and batidas Also they sell a variety of pastries that are difficult to find sometimes.

Yelp
My friend bought me several empanadas from Gondres bakery as a gift. They are absolutely delicious. They are definitely real comfort food. I appreciate how well-cooked and crispy they are, without being greasy. I sent photos of them to my Venezuelan daughter-in-law, who is happy I get to enjoy them!

Yelp
Great food, beautiful cakes, amazing service! Definitely should go give it a try! Their Dulce de leche cortada is my fave :)

Yelp
Had some average flan here. Didn't like the cherry on top but I don't like cherries so YMMV

Yelp
In all reality, while the sandwich is unequivocally good, I don't know that it is spectacular, when I step back and think about it. But my experience with the people in this bakery has been spectacular. They are so kind and willing to converse and give suggestions. These people seem so genuinely friendly that I really want the sandwich to be spectacular. And as a result, I pay more attention to it, and notice that the pulled pork has really impressive flavor. It does not seem particularly seasoned; there is no sauce on it (other than the sandwich condiments already described); and yet it is very flavorful and rich. Read my full review on my blog: https://eatthestreetsboston.wordpress.com/2015/03/16/gondres-bakery-a-shift-in-perspective-and-taste/

Yelp
This place is so awesome. I came here with my friend and had a delicious flan. This place has tres leches, and other Dominican sweets. Great prices, friendly service, and good food. Highly recommend if you're in the mood for something sweet.

Yelp
Going to keep it 2 stars as my old review being I wont condemn other things such as individual service and some foods. The last straw was back in September when we visited about a cake we needed for a Birthday. We asked for the smallest cake possible and it was going to be a printed cake, so we ended up getting a $60 estimate on a 10 inch cake with no toys, one filling, just printed. No thanks that was it! Went somewhere else and got what I was looking for half a sheet in size 14x14 for 30 bucks. Will no longer come here. I never see the older friendly gentleman that used to keep the employees in line and used to have chats with. Might as well stay away, my wife may get occasional pineapple cake slices as there's no other options close by but thats on her....
google avatar

Jeremy D.

Yelp
Gondres is a great bakery that makes delicious sweets (including tres leches and carrot), empanadas, pastelitos, bolitos, and other delicious snacks. Their beef empanada is one of my favorites. The owners are friendly and very involved in the community. This is a great business.
google avatar

Rochelly F.

Yelp
This is the best bakery ever! I live so far away and this is the only Dominican cake place around and I still come here to order all my family's birthday cakes. All the goodies you find while waiting for your cake to be finshed are not bad either - pastelitos, bollitos de yuca, quipes, morir soñando, flan, you name it! Love love love it here!
google avatar

Eddaliz D.

Yelp
Their slave practices are shameful. You have people working their butts off yet they dont give any of the employees the tips that come in. I find it unjustful and morally incorrect. Maybe they should have a social audit conducted at this place im sure it will fail. For it being a "family" business you would think things will be all set. On the other hand, The only thing ive tasted that actually taste good is the arroz con leche (desert), pastelitos de pollo (ive tasted better) and that is it. The Quipes have little to no meat inside and the dough doesnt taste that good. the oatmeal drink is awesome though !
google avatar

Beth D.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this bakery on my husband's birthday and had the best individual cake slices and rice pudding. There was a line out the door. The cakes were delicious and the workers were very nice. The prices were very reasonable! We are from out of town and found Gondres to be a pleasant surprise! Enjoy!

Yelp
Very convenient little local Hispanic bakery. Soooo many yummy desserts like tres leeches mmmmmmmmm!!! Delicious pastries like pastelitos and empanadas too, yum! They do normally stock regular vanilla and pineapple filled birthday cakes without special order. I stopped in on a Tuesday looking for a whole tres leches cake and to my surprise they did have some on hand! They have a simple white square one and smaller round one. $36 for the larger one, not bad at all. It does come in an aluminum pan though, not very esthetic, bummer :( However, the lady was so nice and actually spiced it up with some sprinkles and pink lettering. Plus knowing that it'll be delicious makes it all worth it anyway. I'll definitely be back to order custom tres leches ahead of time. Not easy to find in Boston, hidden gem!

Yelp
I'm writing this review after my second visit in a row. Yesterday I ordered an Everything Bagel, with Ham and Cheese, and a large Cappuccino. Today I've ordered a Croissant with Ham and Cheese, and of course, a large Cappuccino. This Bakery is walking distance from the home I'm staying at while I visit Boston. I'm visiting from Florida and the weather here today feels like -12 degrees F... Let the weather and my willingness to walk in the current temperature speak for the food and the coffee here. The fare is great and I'm sure I will return tomorrow morning for my third day in a row :). Highly recommend for a quick and friendly bite.

Yelp
I have been going to this place over 5 years and loved there cakes. If you are looking for a good cake this the places to go.

Yelp
I found this place on yelp... I love this place! I've become addicted! The staff is super friendly and kind. They serve oatmeal to go...avena Delish!!!!!!!! Amazing! There breakfast sandwiches are so good. Let's not even mention their freshly squeezed oj juice! I get mine with no sugar, you don't need it at all. It's like the pick the perfect oranges to make it. Pricing is beyond affordable! This is clearly my morning pit stop

Yelp
The guy who owns this place is the sweetest, most sincere person- I love going in there just to see him. I always get a little cup of hot coffee and an empanada (or rice pudding if I'm in the mood- soooo delicious!) Gondres bakery is definitely one of those places that I always feel happy to go into.

Shaun G.

Yelp
Favorite place for cheap and tasty sweets in JP. Bring cash, but they have an ATM if you forget. The bilingual staff are really friendly, and can explain anything you have questions about. I like to go here for milkshakes, especially. They only have three flavors: vanilla, chocolate, and papaya. I've only had the last two but I have never been disappointed. I've had each more times than I should admit publicly. For those with savory preferences, they do have meat and potato concoctions that fit the bill nicely. Also they have some fried empanadas that are tasty- ham and cheese is my favorite for lunch snacks. I'd you're feeling flan or corn pudding, this is the only place in JP that I like. I'd love to hear of other places to try, too, but hey- this place does them very well. Sweet but not too sweet.

Karm A.

Yelp
Loved it when the old owners were there and was a bit skeptical when I found out they left but all the recipes remained the same and I abosolutely LOVE IT. their empanadas and cake are soooo delicious. Everybody working there are very nice :) Morelis is amazing!!!

Yelp
Let me start by saying that I've been buying cakes for my kids birthdays ever since the new management took place and i never had a complaint till now On Saturday Nov 3 i placed an order for a Dominican Cake with Dulce de leche flavor filling, when we cut the cake and served to our guest everyone complained of the taste of the Dulce de leche flavor that it was off/bad kind taste plasticky/burned or that it might expired something was off well after 5 slides went to the trash I stoped serving and decided to storage to return it to then, when I arrived to the place and the lady taste she say its how supposed to taste and nothing was wrong like really lady really so I grabbed a spoon and i had a random customer taste it as well and they also confirmed that is bad then she say well is how its supposed to be and that they don't make their own dulce de leche and that they had switched to a new company that they get their supplies from...blah blah blah its all bullsh*t cake tasted like crap no one could eat. Gondres Bakery doesn't care about their customers, the lady is "the manager" and has 0 customer service skills she didn't apologize or say nothing to made things better for real at least apologize for the company who made your discussing dulce de leche or tell me you will talk to then about this situation. I waisted my hard earned money. I wont be coming back to this place ever again. i wish i could leave 0 star worst customer service ever.

Yelp
I was not happy with the service and busy I had with them, they misplace my order and didn't even ofer to accommodate me on their mistake, I got a rushed cake, a cake that I didn't want and it was not well put together at all I was extremely unhappy and disappointed because I hear nothing but good things about them and he owner was rude I WILL NEVER COME back !!!!!! Such a awful first experience!

Yelp
Busy family owned bakery with a cafe feel. It's small but their array of Dominican delicacies makes up for roominess. Gondres' tres leches cake is made with love!

Yelp
I go here maybe once a week or so for breakfast to take a break from my everyday cereal. The sandwiches are yummy, the muffins are SO FLUFFY and delicious, their choc chip cookies are crunchy and sweet, and their oatmeal, although a tad sweet is just what you need on a cold winter's walk to the Jackson Square T stop. The staff are incredibly friendly and willing to suit whatever your needs. Go check this place out if you're in the area!
